I'm getting ready to put my first binding on my first quilt and your crystal clear video of how to hand stitch the binding to the back was just what I needed! Thank you!
Oh wow! I looove all the vintage machines, they are so special. This one in the background is my singer 201-2 that I bought on ebay and refurbished myself! haha! Thanks for stopping by and happy sewing machine collecting!
I am I Very young sewer but very advanced in what I sew and it is all because of u thank u so much I do lots of ur tutorials and it helps me learn a lot THANK U!!!! N
Just found your channel and found many interesting things, I am disabled and have been looking for something to take up my time and starting collecting singer sewing machines. I'm up to 11 most are treadles. I seen the one in the background, I started doing quilting to keep my fingers working and really enjoy a lot of your videos, Keep up the great work
Great tutorial You kept it very simple for us newbies. I love your vintage singer. My grandma had one almost like that and she could sew anything but doll clothes were her specialty.
Yes! I actually just bought it on ebay and got it working a few days ago! I wanted a larger arm machine for free-motion quilting! They are not too scary, you should plug it in and see if it works!!
I sent you an email as well, but it's just a regular low shank foot! I had it for my Viking and tried it on the Singer and it worked great! Bought it on ebay for $15 or so.
Idk if you read comments on your older videos but THANKS SO MUCH for the zig zag idea before binding. I am making my Uncle a quilt. He is in a retirement home and I was looking for any way to reinforce any part of the quilt because of the way and how many times they wash the bedding! It made binding so much easier also because this is almost a queen size quilt!! LOVE your videos!
Hi Gillian! Sure, I used Elizabeth Hartman's free Sawtooth Star pattern. I can't put a link in the comments, so I put it in the description box. The fabric I used was Moda Hullabaloo which I don't think you can find anymore. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Tori! I can't make that exact pattern on youtube since it is not my design but I will be doing some more quilting tutorials soon! In the mean time check out my Patchwork Cutting Basics video and that may help get you started!!
Hello, Melanie. I really enjoy your tutorials. Will you do one on the Ziggy baby blanket by cluck cluck sew? I'm new to cutting fabrics with a rotary and would like to tackle this project. Thanks for your good work. Keep inspiring!
Wow! Thank you so much for explaining this technique! I never quite understood this stitch! ;-) Now I do! And I love your sewing machine and the table with it. I just got an old singer machine with a table as a present and now I'm thinking about painting the table in a fun color. Did you do it by yourself or was it this color when you got it?
I have the same Vintage Singer 201-2. I see that you have a free motion quilting foot on it. Did it come with it or did you buy it separately. I have a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 which is computerized. I haven't tried free motion quilting on the vintage one yet.
You do not have to hand stitch the back, this is just one method of binding a quilt so that there is no visible stitch. There are ways to machine bind as well!
Hi! Lovely video and great explanations. One question - I don't have a machine, would it be ok to do the binding stitching front and back by hand or would it look bad? Thanks
The "binding clips" in this video are actually snap hair clips being used as binding clips. I prefer using real binding clips so you don't get marks on your fabric.
carriemackify these are shaped the same way as the hair clips for sure, these don't have any rubber or anything like that... I still use these but I really like the clover clips as well!
could you possibly please post a link to the fabric you used for this quilt??? it's gorgeous! i was wanting to make something for my baby girl that's due in may and this is exactly the perfect mix of vintage/modern colors and patterns i was looking for.
This fabric line is called Sophie by Moda... here is a link to some I found on etsy... its been out a few years so its hard to find! www.etsy.com/listing/166348268/sophie-chez-moi-charm-pack-moda-fabrics?ref=shop_home_active_4&ga_search_query=sophie
good video. forget the handstitching nonsense. stitch your bindings from back to front. Start with the back, who cares about lines on the back, then turn it and topstitch the front part. looks great.

It's nice to see a binding that's hand-stitched on the back....I do mine that way too and it's worth the extra time. [and very relaxing] Thanks!
I'm not even into sewing but I still watched this! haha I just love your videos so much!

I've been look for that sewing foot, but I haven't been able to find it, where did you buy it? 😊
Kelly Alfieri That is the foot that came with the machine... it's just a standard foot. Is that what you mean?
Haha, oh you are so sweet lol!
