What an absolute beauty. I remember these in England in the 70's,,,, I would certainly advertise this in Europe when you come to sell it,,,,, even new they didn't look as good as that one,,, they were mostly yellow or white,,, but I've seen a couple this color and I love it . There were so many great little sports cars around back then,,, the MGB's & C's,,, Spitfires, 924's, Elan's etc etc.
I have my 1969 OpelGT, FOREST GREEN, I bought in 1972. I was 18! Husband restored some years ago, she goes to car shows, wins trophy's, gets tons of compliments... Lots of memories from my fav car❤️ Would love to share pics 😊
I'm shocked by how knowledgeable you are about Opel GTs! The only little mistakes were the one about the Solex, and the headlight indicator light. The Solex was in fact a 2-barrel, with 32mm throttle bores. And if the headlight indicator remains lit when the lights are up, you have an electrical issue. It should only be lit if the headlights are not locked open or closed. Yours looks functional! Great video! I miss my GT's dash looking that good 😢 And there were several unsold 1973 GTs with single-digit mileage! They were re-imported back to Germany last I heard.
My 1971 was jade green with tan interior. I put an 8 track tape player with speakerlab box speakers in back. Bought it in 1978 for $1850. I was 19 years old. Perfect condition. Sold it for $2,000 so I could buy a truck.
I just noticed this, the vent line to the front of the car from the fuel tank is missing a section! You can see the yellowed remains of the vinyl vent line next to the fuel hard line.
Used to have a 71 that exact same color Back in the late 90's fun little car but my Opel Manta GT was way more fun especially after I turbo charged it like the handful that were offered in 1974 over in the U.K
the C3 was already in development as Project Opel and the team working on the Opel GT got to see the designs of the C3 and took some design ideas from what they saw. they didnt tell the GM bosses until the car was unvailed.
Fantastic condition and incredibly beautiful green paintwork. Little known fact : the large majority of the Opel GT bodywork production was made in France by Chausson (a former company better known for its buses), then sent to Opel Russelheim plant for the full assembly. Since the 90's I have the dream to find a bad condition Opel GT (not a wreck, tho) even without the engine, then rebuild it with recent brakes and suspension system and the 2L turbo engine from the Opel Calibra. 200 hp for less than a metric ton equals lots of fun.
The other manufacturer in France was Brisseneau & Lotz ... and the GT ran along the same assembly line with the Peugeot 304 (I think) Coupé which they'd outsourced to be made elsewhere. Even though the GT is *technically* based on the Opel Kadett B LS Olympia the only body part it shares with it is the rear section with the axle strut mounts and the inside rear bench railing - and that was it. The front frame rails are from the Kadett B (largely) but not the firewall nor the front floor pans. Not even the front axle body is the same. On the Kadett the engine sits atop the axle in weld-on motor mounts and the oilpan sits *before* the axle. On the GT it sits on a separate mount rail behind the front axle and the oilpan behind the axle body. That axle - by the way - is a fully independent double wishbone type with the transverse leaf spring acting only as a spring, not involved in the wheel guidance or stabilization. 🙂 I had some GTs in the 1980s and restored a few when they were sold for scrap metal prices. Missed to keep one as an investment unfortunately.
We had an Opel Manta and loved it! FYI: The locking gas cap was because of the 70’s Fuel Crisis when gas thievery was rampant. As for the Opel clocks,🕰️ I think they were set straight from the factory to tell the correct time twice a day.😁 Nice video, cool car.👍😉
I hope one day to own one of these. I have loved them since I first saw one. I think the first review I saw was RCR, but I do not even know if I would fit in one. I love them though. This or a Fiat X1/9 . Maybe one day. Definitely no need for two cars right now nor room for a fun car.
You should’ve gave Bill more explanation of what opal was. It’s a German car but owned by General Motors. Most people probably don’t know that if they’re under 40.
Even in the late 1970's one of those headlight assemblies was one of the most expensive parts to go out and buy for a repair. We had one in our shop once around 1978. Yellow car. What a nightmare putting that one back together. Before you buy this car check around to find out what it's like to get stuff like windshields and plastic pieces like signal light covers etc. in case you need replacements. If you find any for sale, buy them. Buy them now. And that flip over headlight assembly. That was a $300 part in 1978. It would be at least $3K now.
@@MilkCrateGarage I don't think there were many aftermarket parts for an Opel GT at least in '78. It's crazy how cheap things like taillight lens covers were back in the day, and now THAT's the stuff that's crazy expensive. I keep telling people who are ordering parts for old cars, "If you can find one, try to buy two."
@swilkobarfingtoniii1642 Parts availability for the GT now is probably better than when it was new! I've bought mechanical parts, trim pieces, lenses, etc. The days when you couldn't buy basic necessities are long over! I'd say Opel GT Source is personally responsible for much of that availability, they commission new parts production quite often and are quite invested in our little cars!
Tenho um opel 1900 sport GT de 1973 e preciso dos 4 faróis para trás onde posso comprar preciso de mais algumas coisas alguém me informe por favor obrigado
SOLD!
Schade.. 😕
What a beautiful Opel!
That headlight flip is so brutal :D Pretty sure this would win some carshows!
You learn to adjust the speed of your throw to make flip pretty soft.
Had one in the middle 70’s and love it. The funny thing is I’m 6ft-2 and could drive with zero issues.
Surprising amount of leg and head room!
Same, we had a 71 Opel GT, 71 Corvette, and 77 Datsun 280z and they all had lots of leg & head room.
My ex had one. I'm 6' and had no issues with leg room either.
my first car was a 72 opel GT Orange-thanks for the memories
Bought one for my wife two years ago. 1970 Opel GT all original with 38,000 miles showing. Runs great and the wife loves winning at car shows.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely LOVED these, but my dad wouldn’t let me buy one because he worked for General Motors in Detroit. So cool!

Hey Bob & 53:36 Becky, this little Opel is adorable!!! 👍👍🙂
Euroasian Bob has done it again!
Once called the poor man's corvette. Rough, unrefined, but fun car overall. Great example of a survivor!!
Funny thing this was designed completely independent from the Corvette......and was already shown in 65

I am so jealous. I had an Orange 71 or 72 1.9L. It was my all time favorite car.
Funny, I had a '69 and I put headers and a 32/36 Weber too!
So clean👍Nice PRX too⌚
Mine a 1.9 1971 had 9,400 miles on it when I got it............... in 1983! But it rusted faster than you could drive it!

the opel GT plans pre-outdated c3 but both are born out of the Pontiac Banshee

Pull the clock and spray the gears with butane unless is an electrical reason for not running
I just picked up a 72 Opel gt. Noticed the Washington plates. I'm in Westport washington

I had a light blue one, pretty fast car for its day. NY salty roads ate it alive.
Dieser Wagen, sofern wirklich im Orginalzustand, ist mindestens das doppelte Wert !!
You sold that fast
what a perfect time capsule , very nice. it's missing the rear and front sway bars though
US-spec GTs sadly never came with them. They still had the mounts on the chassis though 🤷♂️
Maxwell Smart had one of those.
NO
Car is sold...anyone know what the asking price was...had one when I was 20, fun car but needed electric fuel pump because of vapor lock.
The car sold for $40k.
