Crazy how interns in the US and Canada make way more money than full-time seniors in Western Europe
They make more than me too in the same area, I work in Biotech industry in San Francisco with 4 YOE and my rate adjusted hourly is like $41
what's your academic background@@miltonhuynh4209
41 is nothing to complain about@@miltonhuynh4209
@@miltonhuynh4209 70% of the total compensation of tech jobs is around $100k-250k in the San Francisco Bay Area. That's like manager levels in most of the field, already quite the ceiling if not 1 or 2 levels below the top on average-size companies. However, knowing industry and scientific knowledge is one thing. Knowing how to code and have enterprise relationships with people is completely different, there's a reason why they paid that much. I don't think staring at the monitor 6-8 hours straight daily is good for health though, there's some trade-off doing anything as always.
life overall is more expensive in the US. also not all companies pay those rates, just big ones like meta , amazon, you get the rest.
Excellent video, it's really inspiring to see all these students landing good internships. Time for me to get on the grind 😤
i just graduated and your little shpeal at the end is so right. its always nice to shoot for the moon but if you don't make it you cant have the mindset of that being a failure coming out of college, it feels like your entire life being decided in those moments but just getting a job and experience that becomes a stepping stone is super important too. I didnt end up in my dream scenario but I got a full-time job in my major coming out of college, I see that as a total success since there are so many who struggle to ever do anything with their degrees
I miss Waterloo but can relate to what she said at 2:57. This happened all the time during undergrad and even now during full-time where friends or classmates would compare where they work (Silicon Valley/Bay Area) vs smaller startup companies based on prestige and name. Comparison is the thief of joy.
facts you gotta do whats best for you
Super informative and insightful video. Would absolutely love seeing similar
Bros inspiring ✨
I did a swe internship for $27/hr a semester before graduation. Coming from minimum wage it was pretty good money.
Currently at $25/hr at my second internship as a software dev
Love your vids Nich!!🤘
I promise I will post more than 3 videos this year
I will hold you to that!😅
W
😂😂bruhhh!!
It shouldn't be 4 bruh😂😂
Some great insight at the end there, just do what makes you happiest. Better than being miserable at Google or wherever
nice video nicholas
Nice vid 🎉🎉
do more interviews!!!!
great work nicholas
Fan encounters are so good 🎉🎉🎉
Having PMs who are juniors who didn't even finish their coding cursus explains a lot of the mess that has become the internet and everything related ot it
Wise words haha. Great video! Come a long way from our Wealthsimple days
Haha these girls at the end were bruutal. But yeah its kinda insane how much you make just for an internship in northamerica for software development.
I'm from Europe and I barely make half of that as an software engineering intern at a major really high tech science software company.
Another difference here in Europe or maybe Germany specifically is that they always keep like average wages a secret. Like nobody likes to talk about them so you really have to ask people around your own company what they make in order to get a good picture. So i really appreciate the video, even though I cant compare it to my situation.
same, southern european here and 9k a month IS CRAZY, not even a senior softwar engineer with 5+ year experience gets that
I like how they explained in detail what they did and how big the companies were. Minimum wage of $12 for web dev is comparable to Germany, albeit not for an internship perhaps. But yea, even just $30 before taxes is pretty damn well for such a young age. Obviously, these are well-educated students and the overall circumstances do factor in as well, but still, North America seems to pay pretty well compared to Europe.
Keep in mind the cost of living when you see these videos.
Keep in mind these are the top North American students, most will never get these
Honestly they made this much because of the school theyre at. Waterloo is like a top 3 comp sci school with like uni of alberta and probably uni of toronto
YESSS
Where do you apply for all of these internships?
are you coming to any other hackathons?
Nich, you mutha fucka! Congrats on your success maneee! I been subbed (pause) for a minute! Oh, hey. Can you do a video about Waterloo in general please. Like, I'm waiting for my transfer acceptance letters rn and I see videos on YT and I'm like ghaaaat..... what's good with waterloo? Like, is that Canada's MIT? Y'all are required to intern as a graduation requirement right? Like how are y'all getting SO many internships? Shit brazzzzy mane, congrats!
Hey man. Did you get your home?
Good to see your continued interest in CS - congrats Nick! - Roger
damn , they be making more than all the high incomes here in Belgium. Crazy
Let’s GOOOOOO ONLY TOOK 4 months to edit 🤠🤠🤠
It was nice finally seeing you in person this term Nick 🔥
thanks for helping with the vid
Dude you have grown so tall.
Wow! My first co-op job was $6.75/hr…
great video
Meanwhile in turkey I was paid 0$ and almost couldn’t even find an internship… life is fucked up fr
I'm a senior engineer, been at this for 9 years in a medium-high cost of living area, and I make $145k, which come out to about $46/hr (startup life means long hours). Some of those internship pay rates are wild.
definitely want to say you're getting underpaid but also $145k gross is actually $70/hr so definitely higher than internship pay
@@EclipsyChannel I am underpaid considering my level and location. And yeah, higher than internships, but hearing that some internships pay $50/hr is nuts, that's mid-level pay. And the 46/hr is because I'm in a startup, I average 12-14 hour days
@@zacanger It depends on locations, companies and experience by large.
@@VM-yt2fj Yeah, I mentioned that I've been at this for a while now (not an intern). It's definitely location: cost of living is also higher here than most places in Ontario (not Toronto metro, though) - but employers in my city are stingy.
Standard internship in my country would pay about 3 usd
I'm unfamiliar with American university system, could someone please explain how a 4th years student goes through 5 internships already? Is that the norm?
You can do more than one in the summer and they could have done a coop or an off cycle internship. I did two in the first summer in the UK
@@Lucky-se3ln Oh wow, that's awesome! With more than one in the summer - would that be like 2 really short internships or 2 part-time internships?
@@y-yyy Two short ones over the summer is what I did. For about 2 months each.
They go to Waterloo where it is very common to do 4+ internships. In America this is far from the norm outside of water loo. The average CS student does

inspirational
look at curry man, so inspirational
Are those salaries in Canadian dollars?
is... the living expense so high or..?
This is incredible I would like to give a shoutout to
Victor for being first
Where is my shoutout
This is all impressive for sure, but the wages are in Canadian dollars, not USD. $50 CAD is about $37 USD.
how tall are you
How do they get so many internships bruh
I know nothing about trading /investment and l'm keen on getting started. What are some strategies to get started with?
I'm new at this , please how can I reach her?
Thanks a lot for the recommendation.
Trading crypto now should be wise , but trading without an expert isn't advisable. I tried trading on my own but keep on losing . I think I'll give her a try
Mary Gail is considered a key Crypto Strategist with one of the best copy Trading Portfolios and also very active in the cryptocurrency space
I lost billions listening to Mrs Mary Gail Benner!! Do NOT take her advice!!

Meanwhile me in Argentina being pay $2.5/hour. Ja I am poor.
Have you considered pursuing online scams and fraud???🙃
Argentina's economy is bad right now.
Interns and you get paid?
ask business/finance interns how much they make
50/h intern? Wtf. I don’t even get paid that much as a FT
Whenever you compare yourself to all the people making $100k an hour, remember that these are the people willing to talk. Broke people don't talk money lol.
People with money talk about money, fit people show off their bodies, fast people show off their speed. People brag about their wins online
Well said

hi steven bai 👋

lmfao program "manager" as an intern.
WE'RE BACK BABY!
A US Intern makes twice as much as a Senior DEV in the Balkans.. 💀
Why are they paying inteena that much wtf???
come on… lets interview ordinary interns and not those in good companies, gives the public such an overly inflated perception of tech internship allowances
Isnt this from 2022?
nah this was from sept 2023
yo are you nicholas t?
yes
Very insensitive of the time right now.
Tons of people getting laid off and the markets hard.
Grow some thicker skin. Or stop watching the video then.
Your insecurity and mental fragility are not other people's problems.
nah how am i being outpaid by interns 💀
laast guy was on the money
why is everyone asian?
They literally are in the industry, gotta love it. They go for high paying roles!
Normally I wouldn't say this but it's getting too obvious - as a colored person myself, it's okay buddy, don't be scared with being diverse with the people in your videos. You don't have to be collective all the time.
?
Orrrrr maybe the majority of people who attend Hack the North or Waterloo are Asian lol
@@aidankim5634 He says he is "going around and asking people" but sticks to asking/selecting a specific ethnic group consistently. Look, I'm all for inclusivity and diversity as I'm a minority ethnic and colored person myself too, but I am seeing this more frequently in his public interaction format videos. Like, there's no need to be scared, he should speak to all walks of people.
Completely agree
@@a.m.4154it's waterloo bro that place is 90% asian
Ew valorant, must be bad dev, trash game. Go dev for valve. /s
I got a 27/hr this summer as a sophomore
Dude why u looked so high in the video when girls were talking??
is yourself
@nicholast
These Interns get PAID???!
Just joking...not really -
In India, tech interns other than IIT and NIT students mostly work for 'exposure' and 'experience'.
