I just lost my Afghan after 11 years….he was the smartest dog like a human. He had 24 favorite songs he sang. He used to talk on the phone with my Mom and others he recognized on the Phone…..I am heartbroken. I’m slowly healing. Thanks for this video.
Love your dog. Because he is beautyful and he ist training YOU the whole video1 Does he sit and wait? No! But he gets a treat. several times. That means you trained him to lay down when you say sit. And that he is following the treats is instinct and not the result of "training". Sorry, but you didn't understand how it works yet. But I liked to watch your video because both of you are really symphatic. :-)
What the biggest hurdle you as an Afghan hound owner have had to go through training wise? I am looking to get one in about four years as a possible service dog prospect. I have been told by a dog trainer friend that works with two of them that they are commonly aloof around strangers, have high prey drive and can't be trusted offleash, and don't always have the drive to work. Which I feel like with a lot of time, patience, and training it is doable considering my current SDIT I am self training has some similar issues in the past that we worked through. Do you feel like your dog would be able to have a job and be properly trained to fullfil it atleast a few times a week in public and daily at home?
Biggest hurdle: learning how to train him and get him engaged. You could most certainly have your Afghan Hound as a service dog - however they're nothing compared to a labrador or golden retriever in terms of service. Your friend is right, yes, Afghans have a mind of their own and don't like being told what to do, they get spooked easily and are aloof to strangers. If you win the lottery of dogs, and live a zealous lifestyle that revolves around the specific tasks requiered from your Afghan - then yes! I would look for a breeder that has great temperament and health (Prince is from Calahorra) - then choose a puppy that has the highest food drive. Good luck !
If lucky enough to get the best temperament, then maybe but not probable. Emotional support dog, more likely. Keep in mind, these dogs are so ancient as to be closest to wolf. Service wolf, not likely.
this is a great topic to talk about ! Sometimes I honestly think it's cruel to keep animals around... and I feel so guilty if I keep Prince inside all day. That's why I'm dedicated to giving him the best life possible. To say that the elephant being trained is having a great life might be hard to see. But im sure that some circus elephants love what they do ! It might be animal cruelty and torture for all I know. But at least Prince gives me more love than anything else - and if he feels tortured sometimes then so be it. I feel tortured sometimes as a human ! Does that mean that we should kill all humans?
What a nightmare trying to train my keeta she is 9 months old an we r finally making progress , these r not regular dogs , they r not stupid , I had 4 Boston TERR soldiers, I told them one time , they got it immediately .. Afghan hound not an easy breed
I owned several dogs in my life and I have to agree with what you are saying... Afghan Hound should be considered "advanced" for training. Very intelligent, very sensitive but also very hard to train!

Afghan hounds are not regular dogs. They’re more like cats. They are very independent.
That’s why it’s so hard for you to get it to listen.

My 9 month old female is already losing her hair , prince hair is still so fluffy ? He got a haircut he is😍
How much is that model of dog?
they tend to range from 1k to 3k
Using the same logic as anti-training of elephants, dogs should also not be trained, right ?
