  • 'Thy Works not Mine, O Christ' is a hymn by Horatius Bonar with clear allusions to Romans 8:1-4 and is incredibly encouraging. Receive it by faith!
    When you're bowed down under the weight of your sin, and the enemy comes along with his dossier of all the wrong things you've done, preach this hymn and Roman's 8:1-4 to your heart and believe it!

    Song Lyrics
    Thy works, not mine, O Christ,
    Speak gladness to this heart;
    They tell me all is done;
    They bid my fear depart.
    To whom save Thee,
    Who canst alone for sin atone,
    Lord, shall I flee?
    Thy wounds, not mine, O Christ,
    Has borne the awful load
    Thy stripes not mine, contain
    The balm that makes me whole.
    Thy Cross, not mine, O Christ,
    Has born the awful load.
    Of sins that none could bear,
    But the incarnate God
    To whom save Thee,
    Who canst alone for sin atone,
    Lord, Shall I flee?
    Thy death, not mine, O Christ,
    Has paid the ransom due;
    Ten thousand deaths like mine
    Would have been all too few.
    Thy righteousness O Christ,
    Alone can cover me;
    No righteousness avails
    Save that which is of Thee.
    To whom save Thee,
    Who canst alone for sin atone,
    Lord, shall I flee?

    Romans 8:1-4 'Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[a] free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
