I didn't want to find himself out of the frying pan and into the fire. He did assest his situation by asking questions. He just showed positive motivation on a win/lose scenario since there's no better way to get ahead start from your prison escape than doing illegal jobs as a smuggler. Especially if it allows you to slip under the radar of your enemies and disappear. That's being an opportunist. Plus, he's a persuasive genius at the end of the sporting fight.

Probably the best version - that I have seen - of Montecristo. For those that would say that it deviates from the original, the director's answer is brief and to the point: "This is MY version of the story. If you want the original, READ THE ORIGINAL! It's a great story."
Zatara...isn't that what Avatar fans called the shipping of Zuko and Katara in Avatar the Last Airbender? Jokes on them, that name meant driftwood, so that "ship" fittingly amounted to driftwood.
A quiet hush envelopes the crowd. Did he TRUELY mean to draw a 7-iron to defend his Thesis? Most players would have selected an 8 or 9 iron or possibly a wedge to approach the green at this distance just to play it safe. Who is this candidate/player? WHAT is he thinking? Doesn't he know his degree/career/game depends upon this shot? He assuradly, yet calmly, swings the 7-iron impacting the ball low and in the dirt --- thus imparting a bit of backspin on the ball. The ball is lofted low and out of the prevailing wind for 35 yards and lands on the green 6 feet beyond the hole and then gently rolls backwards 4 feet as a result of the backspin imparted on the ball - - leaving a 2 ft putt for an Eagle. What LUCK or what GENIOUS???
I never really thought of how he's lucky that the prison didn't care enough to send out people to look for him. Since he escaped at night and it's daytime now, he was probably passed out on the beach for awhile, and they would've just needed to send a boat over and patrol up and down the shoreline to find him.
They didn't have that many people. In all the time he was there, you had the warden and the cook. That's pretty much it, these guys were not supposed to meet many people who could carry their stories.
My favorite story of all time. I have read it the first time in high school and read the long version 26 times during a 10 year period. It is too bad that it was changed from the original text but it is understandable why it has been down so for artistic means.
