    The brilliance of Giamatti. He's not just acting, he's living the part. Nothing more terrifying than a mad and angry king in those days.

      John wasn't mad. Scarily enough, his rule (in England at least) was probably no worse than his brother Richard's, or his father Henry II's in reality. It was a hard time - you had to be tough to be a king in those days or you'd get eaten alive by the barons, prelates, mobs, and other various nefarious actors.

    When Paul Giamatti screams "A WOOL MERCHANT" you can sense the anger and frustration in his voice. You can feel his anger of being questioned by a simple merchant when he is the divine ruler. Superb acting.

      He probably practiced a lot for this scene. If I was a ruler in this period that obtained his position through blood I would’ve been genuinely insulted that a wool merchant questions my faith

      He is not the only reason, but a great reason to. It has solid action scenes, thankfully lacking in CGI overload. The rest of the cast is good too, with Brian Cox among them. Paul rocks the house, but without him, it would still be a decent flick considering the small budget. The script is decent too. I liked how they used the pigs to blast the tunnels. No movie ever gets history 100% right, but there is some interesting info in here.

    • @Ugh-Fudge_Bwana
      @Ugh-Fudge_Bwana 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      His performance is great, but overall it's still a good medieval action movie. The only weak part is Kate Mara's character, who spends the whole film wistfully wondering when she'll get the dick. She was wasted in that role because she's a great actress and her character served no actual purpose in the plot.

      @@Vistresian1941 Soo? Actually your 100 thousand sounds pathetically underrated, Although I don't believe there to be enough nuclear weapons to wipe out whole planet or even countries(as some claim), but there still more than enough to wipe out all major cities, and that would mean more than 50% of population in any country. I do agree though that nuclear weapons are fucking absurd, but still, USA was first to make it and bomb cities with elders and children, I think none should ever forget that. But then again, we don't see shit like WW1 and WW2 this day so gotta be grateful for world being less absurd this days, still crazy AF though((

    • @Vistresian1941
      @Vistresian1941 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If one is launched, all other countries will respond in tandem. That would create a chain reaction that would destroy every major city that contributes to that prosperity you mentioned, so yeah- they could very well end the planet in terms of civilization. And the 100k comment was in reference to nuclear weaponry used on Japan.
