@@stevebrownrocks6376 He undertook, almost suicidal actions to save his men. Not once but twice in the best tradition of The Service, I would say that qualifies in my mind for the MoH. I would be disappointed if it was it was "only" a DSC though that takes amazing courage and selfless self sacrifice too and many who get either could have gotten the other with minor differences in the investigation.
A story you might find interesting, I hope you do and enjoy it if not I am sorry. I use to work on an Army Base (since closed and sold off) about 40 years ago, maybe more. I took the bus to work as my car was in the shop.
I was walking up the opposite side walk a pair of one star generals and a 3 star were coming towards me. There was an old gentleman I mean very old coming towards them. They stopped and saluted this gentleman and waited for him to pass. He returned it. I got ahead and looked at him. I was floored he was wearing the ribbon for the MoH. I don't know if it was from WWI or WWII he was obviously old enough to have served in WWI or both. I have never felt so privileged just to see anyone. The old man had to be in his very late 80s or early 90s this was around 1979 or 1980
I think getting out of there alive and with no injuries is award enough. Hahah. I looked up Sgt. Herb Thompson and he's a consultant for businesses now. Medals and other awards are done based on a recommendation from a more senior person and yes, while the time Sgt Thompson got ambushed made for a good story but maybe not quite on the level of receiving a medal. Sometimes when a bad situation goes very well like in this case, no deaths and no injuries, they sometimes go overlooked as consideration for an award.
Oh god I thought it was gonna be a story of how a Green Beret committed a war crime like in one of your serial killer episodes. I think "Hardest" would be better than "Worst" for the title.

@@hakimdiwan5101 believe you missed the meaning in the quote, “i am a soldier” meaning not some politician that decides when or where the fight is, and until someone else tells a soldier otherwise they will fight until they win. In Your examples yes those are conflicts with less than favorable result for the Americans but its not due to the soldier losing its because someone bigger decided that we were done. Realistically America has the force to wipe any country off the face of the planet any thing that leads to a “loss” for the us is America deciding to reign in the attack dogs. And when America decides it wants to win over everything else we end up with weapons being used that devastate the land for decades. Unless told otherwise by politicians soldier(and all our military) will win any fight we take.

Green Beret Herbert Thompson is a great warrior patriot Army Special Forces badass hero, despite his only mistake of leaving his own rifle ,he saved the lives of his men and the people in the village with the help of a Navy Seal squad, great story lesson learned about battle against the terrorists and the Taliban

No one seems to care that these Afghan villagers were just trying to defend their hometown from hostile invasion from enemy soldiers, right? How would you like it if a bunch of Chinese soldiers suddenly pulled up in your hometown with rockets and humvees and assault rifles? Can you honestly say you wouldn't do the same as the Afghans did?

This is why they beat it into your head in basic training to NEVER leave your weapon outside of reach -- could totally see how that could happen however in this situation.
Even without a choice taking the risk, they need to believe in themselves they can do this no matter what.

The green beret was the official headdress of the British Commandos of the Second World War. It is still worn by members of the Royal Marines after passing the Commando Course and personnel from other units of the Royal Navy, Army and RAF who serve within 3 Commando Brigade and who have passed the All Arms Commando Course.
There are certain other military organizations that also wear the green beret because they have regimental or unit histories that have a connection with the British Commandos of the Second World War. These include the Australian, French and Dutch commandos. It is the norm in the armed forces of the Commonwealth Nations, where most regiments wear headdresses and cap badges which reflect regimental history and traditions.

Probably is a video maker choice. In reality afghan special forces have US equipment and weapons like M4.
I hear U.S. soldiers would sometimes run low on ammo and would pick up the enemies weapons to keep fighting, and since AK-47's are everywhere, it's easier to get more ammo.
I can't help but think of this story from the villagers' perspective: "A bunch of foreign soldiers invaded my hometown, so me and my friends shot back and them and protected the village."
