  • This is a podcast conversation with Calen Morris, a 501 deportee and patched member of one of New Zealand’s most notorious motorcycle clubs.
Warning: This podcast discusses drug use, suicide, violence, self-harm and other sensitive topics. Viewer or listener discretion is advised.
If you need help, a full list of resources is available below.
An offer I extend to all my guests is the option to edit out anything they are not comfortable with before the podcast is released. This is to create a space where they feel totally unguarded and willing to go into subjects they may otherwise avoid. Today’s guest exercised that right and, as I do with all my guests, I respect their wishes. So, if some questions or areas you hoped would be addressed are missing, that may be why.
My goal with all these discussions is to try and get a better understanding of a person and their choices through non-judgmental long form conversation.
    Thanks for understanding and listening.

I was born into the gang world as a little boy in a region predominantly BlackPower. Growing up I never understood why i had so much hatred towards other gangs in this country in particular the mob . As I got older I started to understand alot about who I was and who i really wanted to be as a person . Doing jail time with men from alot of different crews changed my perspective on how I once thought in the past . Respect goes a long way . And I have alot of Respect for this brother!

I get that bro, I'm from hastings and for years I was on the FTNKTA buzz, and then I asked an og what's the difference between us and the blacks and he reckons whark all, we do the same shit just wear different colours. That opened my eyes to the reality that we are all tangata whenua and it should be us against the system, not us against us.

Similar thoughts growing up but coming from a mob family never really knew why or who to hate just that blacks and other gangs along with cops were bad guys. I myself never did time but I did travel Abit around the world that changed my perspective in a similar way to how you spending time with other gangs inside did. Once upon a time I thought I'd live and die in my hometown. The world's so much bigger than the fish bowel or group most kids here are born into.

What world are you living in? Head Hunters in particular. Did you not hear how they were laundering money in Christchurch? They have been evicted from their gang house there, too, but continue to overstay. They frightened their neighbours without giving 2 shits. I witnessed an attack myself from Killer Bees and Head Hunters out in the open. It's your little gang of degenerates talking innocent kids to do the dirty work for them and then act like you're all princesses. "The police are the biggest gang of them all"
Why? Because they target you for dealing drugs, prostitution, Murders and theft? Yeah get a bloody grip yourself mate.

I really relate to this story. I was in and out of jail from the age of 15 all the way to 24. The justice system would just lock me up and when my time is done throw me back out onto the street with nothing but the clothes on my back. No family, no support, no home to go to. Took a lot of soul searching and a long spiritual journey to finally get myself out of the system for good. Had to do it all on my own. I feel for young people who's start in life is like this. They're choked at birth through no real fault of their own.

I am looking past the patch its the type of character and team culture yall build up in your club. Saying nothing or covering for a bro contributes to violence war and family dysfunction also. Aroha atu but must descent tax paying citizens of all cultures and countries know this. My point im making here is that theres still drug selling & violence going on in the MC clubs. You cant hide it or cover it with a safety cloak. Nga mihi nui.

Perfect example of ''gangsters'' being so narcissistic that they cannot help but snitch on themselves. This is case and point. Its all smoke and mirrors. At the end of the day, its all about themselves 💯and not in a good way

Uncle. I see where you are coming from, the trauma, the hardships, the life you grew up in. You want to be better. Youre better. The irony of it all is i dont often/havent heard you reflect on your wrong doings as much as your right doings so to speak. How many people have you hurt, given trauma to and so on? Fighting fire with fire and social media carry on just aggravates an already volatile situation. With all due respect its almost like the boy who cried wolf. Just keep low, do the right thing. Stop the bullshit social ling ling stuff. It goes both ways mate. 😮
