Great Journalism thankyou. As a Maori Matua I couldn't believe the victim mentality. My mother is like that, she has a brand new home which she owns, heatpump, all the bells and whistles, and I have to remind her on occasion what she has, rather than listen to her complain about what she doesn't have. She's in her 80s, Maori and has everything she needs. But she can play the victim, and I don't put up with it.

We can not deny the fact we have walked in the shoes of white mans society for 200 years and i am calling myself to task to make sense of this type of activism, as of today we have way too much mixed blood both on my pakeha and maori side to believe we should co govern , my concept to which i think makes more sense is an equitable partnership governance, where maori are consulted on what affects us ,as well as our mixed blood relatives outside new zealand and within ,,,,,i do believe that the wrongs written within the interpretation of the treaty be addressed maori was deceiced by the colonisers but not the crown ,wakefeild was a criminal yet he was still with the backing of rich people able to confiscate land from maori using our rebelllion as a sign of defiance against the queen ,yet the queen herself gave assurance within that treaty that maori could live in peace" te rongo me te ata noho "which is written into the preamble of that text, but if you look at those assurances against what they actually gave us speaks volumes to the deceptions perpetrated on maori,,,,so what did those colonisers give us ,this was alcohol addiction ,tobacco addiction, debauchery syphilis, gonerea ,typhoid ,scurvy, and the flu ,these were not the protections of an intergrated system. Of power sharing ,but rather a decimation and an ethnic cleansing of a savage people by the colonisers , all those tipuna wanted was for those colonisers to honour what the queen had decreed ,,,this is why we fight for the retention of our way of life ,,redress those wrongs first than look to re interpreting or founding new articles based on the treaty ,,,,new zealand parliament needs to be made up of both maori concepts and pakeha law ,,like i quoted earlier i don't see the need for co governance just an equitable partnership solution where both parties come together over the negotiation table share data ,debate merits to a proposal ,and finalise a consensus of opinion and close with an adopted resolution ,mmmnot rocket science

This needs to be said because it seems a lot of you are not getting it. Gangs are not Māori culture. They're using Maori as a race card. Think about it, if you were in a gang and you were being attacked you can just claim racism. But in honest truth Gangs will always say F the Māori. They have never cared about Māori, i don't understand why people think gangs have anything to do with Maori culture. Iwi have no say over gang activities. Patches are not allowed on Maraes. I need you to see it in this way. Maori communities have been stifled because of gangs. It has stopped growing since the 80s, its not allowed to exist as long as gangs exist. Its so bad now, you've actually mistaken gangs as Maori culture. If you removed gangs from Maori communities we could thrive again, the music, the food, the celebrations but whenever an attempt is made to push gangs out you jump to their rescue. Ive watched multiple attempts for communities to fix the problem and its always the same people that stop it, people who dont live in these neighborhoods. Because theyre fooled into thinking that Maori culture is being threatened, but theyre the ones threatening the culture. After 50 years Ive come to realise we cant fix it until you stop giving them power. We have to actually wait for privileged people to stop interfering.

Te Tiriti is not this country's 'founding document'. It facilitated the subsequent move to becoming a British colony with governance independent of New South Wales. However, Te Tiriti was not a necessary step towards colonial rule, it just made it fairer to the existing inhabitants than had been the case in most other colonies.
"Our land' cannot apply to the large parts that were sold to Europeans. You can't sell things but then still own them, at least not under European laws. But that reasoning seems ok for Maori.

    • @tepangora1388
      @tepangora1388 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Te Tiriti was translated overnight, something that had never been done in history before and not repeated since (normally such documents would take weeks). It was deliberately translated in favour of the English so that it would be under colonial rule.
Did you know only 2% of land was paid for, bro? The rest was taken illegally. So to this day only some land has been returned and/or money paid out to those where the land could not be, which ironically is the part of the European laws lol.

Where is your source for the 2% claim?
The Spain commission operated to check and validate land sales that had taken place before 1840, while for some time after 1840 all land sales were to Crown representatives who took some care to ensure fair value transactions. Land confiscations occurred when certain iwi did not uphold what they had agreed to in Te Tiriti, and much confiscated land was returned afterwards in reconciliation processes. The Waitangi Tribunal has led to compensation for what it deemed to be unfair confiscations although one cannot necessary call them 'illegal' because many were done under laws passed by government.
Whatever the process of translation into reo, Te Tiriti was read by or to the chiefs in reo and they signed it. It was originally written in English under Crown instructions. Of course colonial rule was one of the aims, fully understood by the chiefs and agreed to by those who signed. Indeed, the wise chiefs welcomed colonial rule as a way to protect whatever land they happened to control in 1840 from their neighbouring iwi and marauding groups of warriors that had already wiped out about a third of the Maori population since they acquired muskets (usually in land sales). Te Tiriti also promised the chiefs ongoing rangatiratanga and it was envisaged that iwi would be left to their own laws and lifestyles in their own areas while British law would be applied in European settlements. However, the country could not have developed successfully under numerous different sets of laws, and anyway Article 3 of Te Tiriti led to quite rapid integration with Maori moving into European towns to earn money and get European goodies. British law, then specifically NZ law, eventually had to apply to everyone. NZ law has in some ways taken on te ao Maori but I'm not sure much more of it would lead to fair and equal treatment for everyone.
Again, where is your source for the 2% claim?

@@EmpathiclistenerBro, you can look up all that information but didn't bother to try to look up that bit?
Telling people the chiefs what the English version said in Maori vs what was actually written are 2 different things lol.
They did not agree that they would be under colonial rule, what a laugh.
The government at the time made laws making it easy for them to confiscate land, blatantly abusing the clause, and is one of the reasons they deemed it unfair and had to give it back. This is common knowledge.
You seem pretty intelligent, I'm sure a handful of words in the old Google search box would net you results instead of me saying anything that you can just shrug off as false.

cool video guys those Gang members seemed more intelligent than the maori would be extinct guy now that was some Ignorance , Maori where some of the best navigators on the planet hence the reason Sir Hekenukumai Busby had his name written in the stars . I fnd it funny how western civilisation think no one would have advanced without them . Not to mention the fact that the reason we have a treaty is because the british where behaving uncivilised when they reached these shores thats why Russell became the hell hole of the world the real tortuga for pirates

I'm not a Maori Kiwi but Waitangi Day is the only public holiday I care about. It should define us and unite all our diversity whilst reminding us how special our indigenous people are. The contribution they make to define what it is to live in Aotearoa New Zealand.

I doubt you’ve heard of he whakaputanga, which was the original agreement. Waitangi was a scheme to lure Māori out of guardianship. You’ve been tricked.

Most Maori people hate these drama queens. Reparations don't work they will always want more. You have to work hard to earn your wealth just like everybody else.

    • @tepangora1388

Are you saying if a single person or a group of people were to kill, maim, assault, abuse, steal, ruin another persons' life, property and/or career, the victims should not get any reparations?
To be fair, it's a bit hard to earn anything, let alone wealth when you're either dead, lost a limb, family member and/or everything you had because a person/group did something wrong don't you think?.
Drunk driver and/or hit-and-run's for example.

its a day we celebrate a binding contract Maori weren't as dumb as yall think we where thats why the crown is paying for it . Under King James law Maori have the right to govern our selves in the declaration of independance , this can not be superceded by the treaty or the queens government who the treaty was signed under .

The FACTS are that some Maoris think they are entitled to things that other people are not, and they claim that they have this right written into the Treaty of Waitangi, when it is actually the reverse.
They do not understand what "...all people shall be equal under the Law..." means, referring to the Laws of New Zealand, of which all their Maori Chiefs agreed to be citizens of alongside the British.
