    Great Video, thanks a lot! Would love to see the Fusion 360 Tut with Knife Making in mind. Also, you could try Nylon / Fiber-Filament as Handle Material. The Bamboo can handle enough Temp for it, and it should be ultra durable and on par with Materials that are used for Serial Knives Handle Scales like G10. Needs Enclosure tho. Edit for Idea: You could print the scales vertical with supports instead of horizontal / flat. This way, the Print Layer Grooves would provide extra Grip in wet conditions, and be implemented as feature in design and function. That should make for a damn fine Handle, for those who like these kind of "tactical" look knives.

    You can use the printed scales to make a resin mould for mass producing the same shape handle with any resin colour/combination you need.

    I've designed and 3D printed some stainless screw mounted scales for a 440C Texas Knifemakers Supply chef's knife. It is one of my favorite knives in the kitchen. Made them with ABS and it bolted right on no problem. Just used that very knife to cut some snacks up. The stainless hardware I bought from Lowes Home Improvement has proven itself to be a tad weak when dealing with the bleach contained in dishwasher detergent and is rusting pretty heavily now, but it's holding up well otherwise.

    I have a few 3d printers and I’ve made scales for Swiss Army knives and normal pocket knives. I even did a sheath thing for a Mora that holds a ferro rod and tinder

    you should print these on a resin printer.
    I use my fdm printer to make patterns like honey comb or fish scales to put in a epoxy mold and make.

    Hey brother. Highly recommend you try ASA for scales both for heat resistance and UV resistance. You'll need the enclosed printer to do it. Also, for scales I would do 100% infill unless weight is your first priority. Check out Frankly Built for tips and tricks to put high-end finishes on 3d-printed parts. I have a P1S with AMS and also a QIDI 3 series with heated chamber. The first gives you the option for multi-colored prints while the second makes certain engineering materials like carbon fiber nylon more practical. For jigs and stuff, there's usually no need to get fancy with materials. PLA will work. Hope you continue to show us how to use our 3d printers for knife-making!

    YES! I'm trying to learn Fusion 360 and I just told my B-in-law I wanted to make a blade template to see what I want for a fixed blade. I also have a 3d printer (Prusa i3s) so any help is MUCH appreciated. Love your channel and even considering contacting you for a fixed edc blade. Keep it Texas!

    I had considered doing this but I wanted to go with the CF option. Unfortunately it was only available on the X1C which was a little pricey for me. Happy to see someone trying this!

    I’m finally pulling the trigger on the X1C with AMS today. Things I plan to make for knives are: scales, liners, sheath components, and opener buttons. I’m looking forward to successful TPU prints for these items, and multi-color!

    Thanks for the review. For me, the clear use would be the creation of accurate templates for guards, and it looks perfect for that. I would need to come up with more uses for it, though, to justify the purchase, and at the moment I cannot for the work I do.

    Well That was fun!
    But as you noted... I would never use my 3d printer to make scales... none of the filaments available to consumer would be fit as a EDC or even more so a bushcraft knife.

    • @RedBeardOps
      @RedBeardOps  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Glad you liked it! I think some would work well mechanically for an EDC knife, but it's just not in my lane as a custom knife maker. I don't mas produce knives.
