This was great! Managing my team remotely has had its ups and downs. I like the tips on ways to check in -not because I micromanage but because I don't explain myself well enough sometimes, so I need other avenues outside of one-on-ones for my team to ask questions, express the need for more guidance or clarity, etc. I also love being a little cheesy to help my team feel connected!
Oof that connectivity section really hits home. I am not a manager or leading teams, but i did have the freedom and support (eg time and business resources) to create community building opportunities for staff where i work (24 employees). I created remote scavenger hunts thru goosechase, coffee/tea time chats and games during slow periods in the day (which the company would pay employees to attend 2x/month!), and weekly check-in polls on slack thru polly app. I would pour my everything into them and only a fraction of the staff would show up. While im not unfamiliar to low participation in my role planning events for the public, i was surprised with low turnout among a group of people i specifically curated content for. A humbling experience for sure 😅 for any of the HR staff or team leaders out there trying to do this community building work-i see you.
Awesome tips as always! Managing a remote team is so much different than in the office - and looks like it's the norm now.
Yeah you're absolutely right that it feels like the norm now.
Thank You Mak!! You’re really helping me!!
You're so welcome!

Im actually struggling to work remotly. I feel very isolated and lonely as all my team is in another city
I hear yah. Remote work has so many benefits, but it has it's downsides too. Have you researched some connectivity activities or methods?
