I recently bought a standard 400. Something was loose inside moving inside the spring. Stripped it down and the plastic spring guide had shed the top hat bit, the reason was the spring ends were sharp as hell and had shredded it. I then deburred rifle and spring, degreased it, relubed and assenbled it. It's a bit rough inside (aren't they all) so I recommend doing it. Took about 3 hours. The piston seal had grease on front side and was why it was dieseling. The rifle is accurate (using H+N 4.52 FTT), very consistant and a pleasure to use. The first thing people notice is it's twang free and has a decent trigger. I use mine with the open sights and gonna try a red dot. I have a scoped HW98 and an AA S400. Using the open sights is such good fun. Update: I contacted Cometa about above problem expecting nothing but they sent me a new spring and trigger unit with built in guide and a couple of nice freebies all the way from Spain at no cost to me. That's great after sales service.

Hi Iwan. The HW98 is a lovely rifle but I have to be honest I'd be stunned if it outshot the Cometa. Thanks for sharing Dan, I love my Cometa's, a self admitted fan boy, my only gripe with the design on these is the lack of a sturdy scope mount pin hole, as you know the holes on the fusion and fenix etc are tiny and serve no purpose, if you lodge anything in them they foul the safety, you can see the top of the safty slide though these small holes. But super accurate and great looking rifles.
Hi Peter! I agree and I'll be having a chat with Cometa about this. It's not a massive issue like you've said as one piece mounts lock on there no problem at all but it's an odd design choice I'll admit.

Yeah I understand that it's just I've always set my scopes up on the bullseye .like you say its consistency. Looking forward to your next review. Happy shooting Dan.
i have two plastic triggered versions. ive put several thousand through them. Its a shame the blueing is utter junk! ive got 60 year old and 50 year old rifles with perfect blueing. The cometa has gone rusty where I hold it to cock it. regardless of being well oiled. es una pena que una carabina muy buena tiene que tener oxido! tendre que cambiarle el cañon.
Spot on with the blueing, I oil mine after every session which is a pain but seems to work better, you can actually see it dulling the more you cock it, but the rest of the gun makes it worth it.
I've not had this issue nor heard of it but I'll pass it on to Cometa and see what they say. Is it a newer rifle or an older batch? It might've been a dodgy batch of bluing a while back as I've never had this issue since I've dealt with Cometa. I'm sorry to hear this though.
Yeh. The bluing i have , at least from 12 years ago has always been very light and with a somewhat transparent look to it compared to older rifles. I dont think its an isolated case as my local gun shop the other day mentioned that cometas bluing is generally sub par I will likely end up ordering a replacement barrel and being more zealous with oil for that rifle. But next to a 60 year old webley, its a shame..

Great review! Looks like a great gun! But please stop it. I dont *need* any more guns!
Blasphemy Jason!
Goddam Dan, you keep giving secrets away, stop telling them that they are fantastic otherwise someone else will be outshooting me at the range, at the moment they're just looking puzzled. Best gun I have for accuracy, and I have many, consistently outperforms the others, why didn't you try Superdomes which performed so well in the original Fusion?
Hahaha I'm sorry David I'll behave from now on. They don't half shoot well don't they!
I used Express as for me they seem to be even better than Superdomes. Try some if you can get your mitts on them you won't regret it.
That said Superdomes are a very close 2nd. Fantastic pellet.
Dan are you aming at the bulls eye when testing accucey.
It's about consistently hitting the same area. The point of impact can be adjusted with the scope.
Hi mate. The rifles are zeroed to more of less be on card with all weights. As Jason has mentioned the demonstration is more to test accuracy than hitting the bullseye.
Yeah I understand that it's just I've always set my scopes up on the bullseye .like you say its consistency. Looking forward to your next review. Happy shooting Dan.
Hmmm..that"shiny metal trigger" to me looks more like a plastic yellow trigger..?😮
Hi Erick!
I assure you it's most certainly metal and a very nice unit to go with it. The plastic units were the black blades.
i have two plastic triggered versions. ive put several thousand through them.
I dont think its an isolated case as my local gun shop the other day mentioned that cometas bluing is generally sub par
I will likely end up ordering a replacement barrel and being more zealous with oil for that rifle.
But next to a 60 year old webley, its a shame..
Dont think its bluing on Cometa’s its blacking.
Why not rested on a bean bag??
Hi Steven!
No need. 😉
To be fair I've always shot offhand and for me I find it more fun to be honest. On top of this it shows how easy to shoot the Fusion is.
maybe up against a hw100
That trigger is just a stick , I'm sure someone could have come up with a better design, ?
Hi Phillip!
It's a damn nice stick though as sticks go. 😉😂
That said I agree that some more curvature would've been nice. But in its defence it's a lovely feeling thing.
It's a great trigger in use. I have one on my 400 USC.
@bigdansairguns83 I tried to adjust trigger on mine today undone the little screw the trigger went lose gun wouldn't cock any idea what I'm doing wrong thanks
first :)
Congratulations!
