especially because it implies that Robbie subconsciously has some level of omnipotence. because sometimes when Rex is left alone, when Robbie comes back and picks him up, Rex reveals details that Robbie shouldn’t be able to know because he wasn’t there. Completely agree. Why would a mentally stable Robbie walk around with this sentient separate being who constantly bullies him? The concept that it's Robbie roasting himself through Rex is much more compelling and hilarious. We all have that negative voice in our heads.. Robbie just has taken it to another level by personalizing it.
Whoever came up with the idea of Robbie/Rex must have been a fan of the late 70s sitcom SOAP. That show also had a character who always went around with an eccentric puppet.
Robbie’s actual talent is just being a gateway to some sort of spirit world and Rex, while usually being a puppet, is possessed by one of those spirits whenever Robbie needs him to speak or whenever the spirit thinks it would be funniest.
18:48 this could be seen as evidence of Rex being a real boy, but it's even funnier if you look at it through the multiple personalities theory because then it means that either Robbie occasionally enters a fugue state where he drew a hickey on Rex or Rex berated and ordered Robbie to do it and then intimidated him into pretending that it's real
Just cause Rex *says* he's out partying the night before, doesn't mean he was actually out without Robbie. Robbie could just be really into the bit and saying that. I'm on the side of Rex being real tbh but I feel like pointing at him implying he has a life through conversation is pretty weak.
I'm on the side of Rex being real too, but honestly I was starting to be swayed more to the side of him just being a puppet because of how weak those arguments were.
I mean the idea that Robbie is just insane and has a puppet with whom he expresses his personality disorder is ultimately more funny then just a regular speaking puppet. Imagine there is a guy in school who is just insane and talks with his puppet all day and thinks it is an actual person. That would be pretty funny.
I just found your channel and I’m already binging! Just wanted to let you know that the correct term for what used to be know as multiple personality disorder or split personality is Dissociative Identity Disorder, and the different ‘personalities’ and referred to as alters
That wasn’t until later when they introduced superhero’s so there intention of having real physics in the shows changed when Henry Danger and that stuff started. Ventriloquism is a talent intentionally for making it look like the puppet is real and there are some very clever ones out there and there is nothing in Victorious showing Robbie and Rex talking at the same time or Rex talking without Robbie holding him the scene where Rex talked when he was in the bag was because Rex was hidden and all Robbie needed to do is talk
I would love to see you do a video exploring cat valentine and her brother and stuff (yes IK people have done this but I like the way you dissect everything the most)
Btw multiple personality disorder is not a mental disorder. It was removed from the DSM and ICD and it was replaced with disassociated identity disorder(DID). Also DID is not a psychosis disorder. A psychosis disorder would be something like schizophrenia. A psychotic disorder is when the disorder messes with your perception of reality. DID does not change your perception of reality. Furthermore, if Robbie does have DID then he is missing a lot of the symptoms needed for a diagnosis. The only symptom he has is the appearance of multiple personalities. Robbie's symptoms align more with schizophrenia than DID.
Christopher Cane being apparently an adult with a wife having a crush on Victoria Justice who I think was a teenager at the time was super uncomfortable.

A funny head cannon is that a kid Robbie got Rex as a gift or was drawn to him at a flea market and either way promised a super nerdy loser Robbie that he could make him cool and popular if they promise to be “friends forever” And that seemed like a no brainer of a deal as thanks to him Robbie got into a super cool high school by pretending he has talent by fake a “performance” with Rex but luckily he got by in school as he has talent in the nerdier side of production like lights being originally friends with Sinjin but as he’s less gross he got in with the cool kids to help with their projects and maybe regular school stuff but Rex made him think it was down to him and if he got rid of him then Robbie would be friendless But his friendships grew especially with Beck and Cat so Rex has to bully Robbie to keep him thinking he still needs him But luckily his friends do eventually show him that he’s better without Rex and they should part (Tori made it take longer though) but when Rex was gone Robbie had better luck with Cat and was happier overall and still had all his friends showing that Rex was the loser all along and couldn’t even make good on his side of deal with Robbie giving him “life” as he knows less than Robbie about girls and what’s “cool”
I know people hate the rex killed trina debate, but this episode just made me think Rex is a paranormal being like Chucky and why he is a psychopath. But do agree that Robbie is misyongistic and is hiding how he really feels by speaking through Rex.
Chucky was a human who used voodue to posess a doll thatx ehat haooens in the first childs play film he isnt a living doll he a soul traped in a doll because he tried to escape the police by using magic
There is a mandela effect where people remember an episode where rex and Robbie meet when Robbie is 9 he goes into a saloon on holiday and when he's waiting for his lollipop he starts talking to rex and the bartender says that Robbie got him to talk and that he hasn't talked since his last owner left him here. Then Robbie takes rex home and has had him ever since. I've looked for the original episode but no where has it so I think it's a mandela effect
I think Robbie just has spilt personally or DID and Rex is just a manifestation of Robbie's supposed negative feelings, if was going to describe him he's basically Arnold Wesker/The Ventriloquist and split personality Scarface from Batman but if they were a socially awkward nerdy teenagers, hell even Robbie gotten upset when Tori damaged the Rex doll like like if Rex was a real person, just like when Wesker gotten upset when the Scarface doll got shot down gangster style back in the end of their first episode of Batman TAS. They even have nightmares about their respective spilt personalities.
I see where you are coming from but I do feel that some of your points could just be because of Robbie wanting Rex to feel more real. For example, Robbie could just be saying that Rex has plans to make it seem like he has his own life. Robbie could have put Rex in Tori’s bag and made up the scenario of finding him. He could have just been fake sneezing for Rex. All of this could have just been made up within Robbie’s mind to make it more real to him. Maybe Rex does meet up with the girls or rly did sneak into the bag, I haven’t watched the show in a while, but that’s how I see it. Sorry if there’s any typos
the thing is tho the universe the show rakes place in allready had a shapeshifting doll girl and has super humans posessed evil dolls ecist in that world and thats factual
I don’t know if I’m overanalyzing this but for the interview portion, I’ve never watched the icarly version but I have seen the victorious version. Some people would say that Robbie is Dans self insert since he is pervy and creepy. So it wouldn’t be surprising that Rex would be the same since Robbie is the voice of Rex. Rex has a disdain for Jerry Trainor, which aligns with Dan as well. Jerry would always protect the icarly kids and get in the way of Dans perverted actions make his self insert and Jerry hate one another. Idk it’s all so weird. Also the fact that Rex is in love with Victoria Justice, which aligns with Dan as well because he might have thought that Vic would be making it big and he had an infatuation with all of the girls on set.
That's actually not a bad take on it. It's true Dan never misses the opportunity to project his repressed perversion and emotions in his shows, no better way than to project it all into the manifestation of a singular character. And it's okay to overanalyze, it is greatly appreciated
Ngl- what if Rex decides to appear not real to everyone but Robbie to mess up Robbie even more? Like, “now everyone thinks you’re a loser AND insane”?? Definitely giving Robbie a harder time- as well as the whole “getting injured” thing- Rex knows Robbie cares about him, he could definitely play along with playing dead and what not, fully aware of the mentality of Robbie but also slightly aware of Tori, Cat, whoever- knowing Tori isn’t cruel enough to hurt Robbie by letting Rex “stay dead”, etc THAT seems like it makes the most sense, at least to me :))
I always thought that Rex was just a physical outlet for Robbie's schizophrenic second personality. That's why Robbie was like half dead without Rex: Because they are one soul.
Hey, thanks for the amazing video, I'm a huge Cabbie shipper so I would love to see an analysis of the interesting, weird but often wholesome relationship of Cat and Robbie as I ship them way more than Beck and Jade.
I went to a magic camp for young magicians. There was a guy who was 16 or 17 who carried around a puppet and constantly did ventriloquism with it. Everybody just sorta played along with it, so it kinda makes sense.
Idk, if rex is part of Robbie as an identity then it’s important that he’s able to communicate with rex and that rex is treated as a person, but if it’s psychosis that’s completely different- an imaginary person from a psychotic belief is very very different than a split personality- the treatments are very different too because DID and split personalities are actually all one person who’s brain wasn’t able to make the proper connections in childhood due to trauma, psychotic hallucinations is the brain malfunctioning and receiving improper signals- You heal from psychosis with medication for the most part, DID on the other hand is healed by building connections between the personalities
i just want to say that for theory 1, Robbie wouldn’t have DID or formally known as “split personality disorder” he would have schizophrenia. This is because Robbie has hallucinations when not having Rex. Because people with DID, for one, don’t develop fully formed alters until their 30’s. also they don’t perceive their alters through inanimate objects.
I agree for the most part with your comment, but where did you get the "alters can't fully developed until your in your 30's"? Everywhere I've looked it's saying it's different for every system, not to mention some have even claimed alters have come out fully formed before /gq /npa
Rex represents who Robbie wishes he was. The reason Rex is mean to Robbie is because Robbie is insecure about himself and uses Rex as a way berate himself. So when red insults Robbe, it's really Robbie's ideal self berating his true self.
Actually I used to think that Rex was a separate entity, and he didn’t come from Robbie’s imagination, how ever Robbie was the only one who could actually speak with him through idk like mind waves or something, so though Robbie is ventriloquist-ing (pardon my English) for Rex it’s a way of Robbie basically translating Rex’s thoughts for others to hear..
I have a cool head cannon for Robbie. Basically he was bullied, hard, throughout school. Possibly by women primarily hence his misogyny. But either way he figured out the way to get the bullying to stop was to beat them to the punch, self deprecating humor so they were laughing with him not at him. Rex became his way to tell the jokes, and he essentially became a court Jester making the royals laugh and when he wasn’t funny he was back to the bullying. So Rex became a self defense mechanism, hence why he always panics whenever Rex isn’t at his side, and it got to the point that Robbie wasn’t even thinking about the things he made Rex said. Hence why he’ll sometimes seemed shocked at what Rex says or does, or even talk to Rex when no one else is around. Since to an extent he can talk to Rex, having a full conversation a bit.
0:54 I just discovered your channel today and watched a few vids. Love the work you put into these. I just started this video. Less than 1 min in and I’m immediately reminded of professional ventriloquists who say that they consider their dummy or puppet real. Candace Bergen was a famous actress who played Murphy Brown in the 1990’s. Her father was a famous ventriloquist in the 1950’s and his puppet was treated as a member of their family. It had its own room and a seat at the table during mealtimes. The puppet was effectively her little brother. Performers will sometimes say that when they’re on stage with the puppet, and it’s time for them to change their voice to speak as the puppet, the ventriloquist will forget and just stare at the puppet waiting for it, the puppet, to talk and say it’s line. The ventriloquist will forget they’re just a doll and they speak for them. So weird. 🫢
Maybe rex is a parasite that feeds off Robbie's mind to power his own brain. That's why he only moves and talks independently when Robbie's hand is in him
"multiple personality disorder" hasn't been an accepted term for over a decade, due to its ambiguity and similarity to the personality disorders. Dissociative identity disorder (DID) much better encapsulates the experience because it has to do with dissociation.
It’s always interesting to hear the original voices of something you watched as a kid. Rex sounds so weird. If Rex is an actor, then both are just right. Because he’s both alive as an actor, but also playing a doll on the show
I have a visual memory of that knockoff Twitter transition screen where Beck makes a post talking about Rex, which mentions that Beck thinks Rex is a republican. That's when it all fell into place for me.
I don't agree with all your theories on various different shows, but I have to say that when it comes to this this is something that I've been trying to prove on other people's like reactions to the show and other things like that like it's very clear that Rex is alive and he's not just Some sort of Atwood voice for Robbie's subconscious, like I didn't know if a person soul had been put inside him like some sort of Chucky situation or if he had been magically brought to life kinda like the toys and toy story through Robbie just believing he's alive or what his deal was but it was very clear to Me That there were too many episodes that proved his own being there's even one episode where while it heavily implies through the characters that he is just kind of crazy and the papa is just a puppet, in that exact same episode at the end Rick speaks without Robbie even doing anything in front of all of his friends, which like I feel like is enough proof but if you need more Robbie is constantly telling Rex not to speak in front of people without him and that if he put them down somewhere he can't talk and like all of that kind of thing And again like I said in that episode where Rex almost dies because he gets shoved into the fan, all of Robbie's friends who previously acknowledged Rex was real don't in that episode saying that he's just a figment of Robbie's imagination and that Robbie has to get over him but in that same episode of the very very end Rick speaks
there is kind of depression where depressed person makes fun of themselves (sometimes saying really rude or hurtful things about themselves), in order to seem fun
I’m pretty sure it’s cannon that Rex is his own entity. Remember that time when he was sat down on the floor and he moved on his own? Robbie wasn’t around and no one was touching him

I was so prepared for Rex and Robbie talking at the same time being mentioned and then it never happened ?? 😭
Did they ever really tho? Really good ventroquilists can make their voice appear to overlap for a second, and Robbie obviously is
When did that happen?
Whoever came up with the idea of Robbie/Rex must have been a fan of the late 70s sitcom SOAP. That show also had a character who always went around with an eccentric puppet.
Nick shows have plenty of references to older sitcoms
The Rex being a "puppet" is simply debunked by the fact that he's either bored or unconscious.
I mean didn’t he seem to actually know the north ridge girls and such?
@@kingofgrim4761 oh trueee
I mean the idea that Robbie is just insane and has a puppet with whom he expresses his personality disorder is ultimately more funny then just a regular speaking puppet. Imagine there is a guy in school who is just insane and talks with his puppet all day and thinks it is an actual person. That would be pretty funny.
I just found your channel and I’m already binging! Just wanted to let you know that the correct term for what used to be know as multiple personality disorder or split personality is Dissociative Identity Disorder, and the different ‘personalities’ and referred to as alters
Was just about to comment this
i wonder if there was a "rule" in the writer's room about rex being alive or a puppet, or if the rule was just "whatever is funnier for the episode"
I've always considered that Rex is alive. Especially since super heroes are canon in the universe.
Dan Schneider self insert 😭
@@alicenikolai SO. WAS. SPENCER.
Well now that we know about Dan & Peck that explains everything
@@joshuaaaronlevyjerry trainor protected the kids
@@joshuaaaronlevy yeah, Spencer is how Dan sees himself, Sinjin is probably how he comes off
I would enjoy a video about the flawed worldbuilding and lack of consistency in the Shniderverse, as I myself have noticed such flaws as a kid.
I don't remember any, other than the "is this a fictional show within the show, or just real within the same world?" inconsistencies, but I'm sure I've seen more,
The two things I know is that:
ICarly and Victorious share a universe
Drake and Josh are confirmed to be a show within the shows too.
@@temmieton9755 my theory is that the events of Drake and Josh did happen in the show, but the show also exist as a show within the show as a retelling of events. Thats why Drake and Josh acknowledge the viewer at the beginning of their show and appears as a show in victorious and icarly, but the characters they played also appeared as well such as helen and crazy steave.
A funny head cannon is that a kid Robbie got Rex as a gift or was drawn to him at a flea market and either way promised a super nerdy loser Robbie that he could make him cool and popular if they promise to be “friends forever”
And that seemed like a no brainer of a deal as thanks to him Robbie got into a super cool high school by pretending he has talent by fake a “performance” with Rex but luckily he got by in school as he has talent in the nerdier side of production like lights being originally friends with Sinjin but as he’s less gross he got in with the cool kids to help with their projects and maybe regular school stuff but Rex made him think it was down to him and if he got rid of him then Robbie would be friendless
But his friendships grew especially with Beck and Cat so Rex has to bully Robbie to keep him thinking he still needs him
But luckily his friends do eventually show him that he’s better without Rex and they should part (Tori made it take longer though) but when Rex was gone Robbie had better luck with Cat and was happier overall and still had all his friends showing that Rex was the loser all along and couldn’t even make good on his side of deal with Robbie giving him “life” as he knows less than Robbie about girls and what’s “cool”
@@demonic_myst4503 ok.
Can we make that another theory. There is an evil soul inside rex? Because that is another possibility.
What happened to him after victorious? Did he get abandoned and someone found him or was he placed in the Nickelodeon museum of pops?
Wym? He made a three episode docuseries about his failed rap career and later his dedication to charity. Rex is a real inspiration to us all.
@@ViJones-mn3pn oh thank you for letting me know man
@@ViJones-mn3pn Do you know the name of this movie? Please tell me
The thing about Rex is you can see Robbie’s mouth move even when Rex is put down he’s just a creep with a puppet.
the thing is tho the universe the show rakes place in allready had a shapeshifting doll girl and has super humans posessed evil dolls ecist in that world and thats factual
Calling him a creep is bit harsh. Rex is his insecurities, it is clearl Robbie is mentally ill
Definitely giving Robbie a harder time- as well as the whole “getting injured” thing- Rex knows Robbie cares about him, he could definitely play along with playing dead and what not, fully aware of the mentality of Robbie but also slightly aware of Tori, Cat, whoever- knowing Tori isn’t cruel enough to hurt Robbie by letting Rex “stay dead”, etc
THAT seems like it makes the most sense, at least to me :))
I've been waiting for someone to make this video for so long ! thank you
I can’t wait for the Schneiderverse video
now i wanna do an in-depth analysis/phycological diagnosis on robbie😭
I’m excited to watch this, Robbie was my favorite character!
Idk, if rex is part of Robbie as an identity then it’s important that he’s able to communicate with rex and that rex is treated as a person, but if it’s psychosis that’s completely different- an imaginary person from a psychotic belief is very very different than a split personality- the treatments are very different too because DID and split personalities are actually all one person who’s brain wasn’t able to make the proper connections in childhood due to trauma, psychotic hallucinations is the brain malfunctioning and receiving improper signals-
You heal from psychosis with medication for the most part, DID on the other hand is healed by building connections between the personalities
i just want to say that for theory 1, Robbie wouldn’t have DID or formally known as “split personality disorder” he would have schizophrenia.
The times that Rex was without Robbie could very easily be that Robbie's body was there, but he was dissociating entirely while only Rex was active.
oh yes, Schrödinger’s Rex
When cat and jade turned into Rex that freaked me out so bad when I was younger honestly still disturbing to look at
I cackled so hard when you went off at the end! That made my week 😂
I think that Rex is just a separate entity from Rex who sometimes acts like a p-word in order not to raise suspicions
Rex represents who Robbie wishes he was. The reason Rex is mean to Robbie is because Robbie is insecure about himself and uses Rex as a way berate himself. So when red insults Robbe, it's really Robbie's ideal self berating his true self.
I love it when ventriloquist characters are addressed as plural
31:20 is when i knew i had to like and subscribe
Actually I used to think that Rex was a separate entity, and he didn’t come from Robbie’s imagination, how ever Robbie was the only one who could actually speak with him through idk like mind waves or something, so though Robbie is ventriloquist-ing (pardon my English) for Rex it’s a way of Robbie basically translating Rex’s thoughts for others to hear..
That ending had me dying 😂😂
Considering that superheroes exist in this world, Rex actually being alive wouldn’t be that out there
this is the best video essay ive ever seen.
honestly, he's like a less evil Slappy from Goosebumps
just subbed, this guy is amazing.
i literally died laughing at the end when you said that whole schpiel about why you’re right LOLL i love it
0:54 I just discovered your channel today and watched a few vids.
That's why he only moves and talks independently when Robbie's hand is in him
thinking about the 18 hour voctorious videos again.....
The first option is if it was in our world the second it's in victorius universe
"multiple personality disorder" hasn't been an accepted term for over a decade, due to its ambiguity and similarity to the personality disorders. Dissociative identity disorder (DID) much better encapsulates the experience because it has to do with dissociation.
WHATTTT…. Matt isn’t the voice of Rex?!
Okay now I’m heartbroken and shaken
Cat as rex was truly one of the most troubling things ive seen in a while
Cat's Brother please
It's definitely a lot more dark and interesting if Rex was just a puppet.
It’s always interesting to hear the original voices of something you watched as a kid. Rex sounds so weird.
If Rex is an actor, then both are just right. Because he’s both alive as an actor, but also playing a doll on the show
My dad said that Robbie might have mental problems. But he is still my favourite.
With the fact that super beings are a thing, maybe Robbie has a super power to animate puppets, uniting the two sides
Are you from the Caribbean? Some of your pronunciations are reminiscent of how my family speaks (we’re Jamaican) and my Bahamian friend too!
I love the rex dies part on this video on here today
Rex is a physical representation of Robbie's compartmentalized toxic masculinity/homophobia he was surrounded by as a child.
I have a visual memory of that knockoff Twitter transition screen where Beck makes a post talking about Rex, which mentions that Beck thinks Rex is a republican.
That's when it all fell into place for me.
Reupload and we will be rewatching fuck youtube copyright
Great video, keep up the great work
Thanks!
Love the video. Desperately wish you blurred out that snot scene oh my gosh my eyes. 😭
This is way too much analysis for this but it was amazing haha.
Need to put the Ether instrumental over that last minute of this.
the video title would kill a victorian child lmao
I like the psychosis arc better than Rex existing because while it’s not an accurate description, it gives Robbie more depth
I quote “YOU DONT KNOW WHAT I GOT!” all the time still 😂
25:22 so this is how I found out Christopher cane doesn’t actually exist?
I think Robby is my favourite Tally Hall member
"but this doesn't happen on camera, except when it does." Wow...
the ending of this video is so unhinged 😭
We need a show about the alternate universe, where Rex actually "dies" and Robbie copes with his grief
Best video outro I've ever seen😂
Imagine if Rex's "death" stuck and Robbie was plagued by hallucinations for the rest of the show
bringing up the victorious wii game is CRAZY
the amount of ads on this video is insane
there is kind of depression where depressed person makes fun of themselves (sometimes saying really rude or hurtful things about themselves), in order to seem fun
I watched all of Quinton Review's iCarly miniseries, I am very over prepared
plot twist Rex is a demon and Robbie sold his soul to him so he can go to school and become something
Can you do a video about the parents from Disney's Jessie? They were terrible parents tbh
I can’t remember the actors name but that’s not a puppet. That’s an actual person, he hosts the clip show episodes.
I’m pretty sure it’s cannon that Rex is his own entity. Remember that time when he was sat down on the floor and he moved on his own? Robbie wasn’t around and no one was touching him
Lmao that last bit almost got me 😅💀
Ngl I feel like Rex is just what Robbie wants to say but cant
The conclusion was so funny 😭😭😭
