I’ve had to work with these types of Karens during my time in supermarkets, entitled women of a certain age older than myself and some of whom are also managers, where my last store where I’d been working for 17 years were full of Karens and it goes well beyond just mere bullying or gaslighting - the worst thing is that their entitled behaviour and attitudes is both toxic and contagious and they train others to behave this way, they train their nieces and daughters as well as their nephews and sons to adopt their toxic mindsets - if they don’t get their own way, they go on a tirade of screaming rows on the shop floor in front of customers, while calling you all the most disgusting names under the sun, not allowing you to speak at all in your defence, constantly telling you to shut up and then, having you called up on a disciplinary hearing when they created the incident in the first place by their own narcissistic, entitled, abusive, hypocritical attitudes, using things like false accusations of “your” perceived (by them) “rudeness” as a cover for their conduct and behaviour, for which they expect you to take responsibility - it does not help either that many of them come from ex-Millitary backgrounds (which they can use “training” as an excuse) for their major attitude problems - having a later in life diagnosis of autism myself, there are those who still believe and maintain that the “only” way to “manage” adult autism is by means of ultra-strict Millitary-style discipline

Uhg.... I've had run-ins with bloody Karens like that before. It's absolutely awful if you get trapped in a lift with them too.
The last time I was stuck in a lift with someone like that, and my patience wore out, I turned to her and said "Lady, I don't know you. You are insignificant to me. Thankfully, it's highly unlikely we'll ever meet again. But if you don't shut your mouth, turn around and get out of my personal space, you better be prepared to cover your child's ears fast, or they'll be learning a whole new colourful vocabulary"
She got off at the next floor, and as the door shut, I heard her kid say "but this isn't the right floor though"
    Wise choice Karen.

At a previous retail job that I had, we had a deaf couple who would come in sometimes. I know a fair amount of American Sign Language so I was the only one who could really help them in a way that wasn’t a complete pain in the ass for them. We built a really nice relationship with each other and I miss them dearly. Well, anyway, one day they were in the store and I was helping them order something online (we often had to order items to their house since we didn’t carry the woman’s size in-store very often). There was another woman in the store at the same time who was a total Karen, and also a regular customer. She took a liking to me for some reason and always insisted that I be the one to help her, even if I was busy and we were well staffed that day. Well, on this particular day, as I was helping out the deaf couple with their order, the Karen was just standing right there next to them trying desperately to get my attention, because she wanted me to be the one to check her out, even though there was another cashier right next to me who was free. I kept telling her to hold on and that I would get to her once I was done helping them, but she would not listen. I was very clearly signing back and forth with this couple, and Karen kept saying “this is taking too long! Can’t somebody else help them?!” I was finally like, “ma’am, this couple is deaf. . . I am the only one here who can assist them. You can either wait for me to be done, or anybody else would be happy to assist you.” After saying that, it was like for the first time she realized that I was, indeed, using sign language with this couple, and said in a huff, “well, how was I supposed to know that!!” We definitely talked some shit about that lady in ASL haha. But like, how fucking entitled!! Even if they weren’t deaf, why can’t you go to literally anybody else?? Why does it have to be me? I was helping them first, please fuck off or wait your turn.

I had a Karen encounter at a bus stop, she was talking at me fully aware that I could hear her because of my _massive headphones_ . Before I even got a chance to take them off she just went off on me about how rude I was for ignoring her asking for my seat, which I would've offered had I known. I ended up shifting my stuff over so she could sit down, during which time she was calling me names and telling me to apologise. I looked her dead in the eye and said 'no because i have nothing to be sorry for.' And to really wind her up when a mum and her kid showed up I offered my seat immediately and shot the Karen the fakest 'eat shit' smile I could muster. The look on her face was 👌

As someone who is childfree and doesn't like kids the whole "how dare you do this in front of my kids" just doesn't work on me. A male karen once had a go at me for crossing a red light (on foot, no car in sight) while he was waiting with a kid that was probably too small to even remember anything. I needed the bathroom and was in pain, so I was in a hurry. I was also still closeted at the time and battling dysphoria along with an eating disorder. So when he yelled at me about being a bad example to his crotch fruit I completely snapped and verbally tore him a new one.

How do these people not get that it is a parent's responsibility to teach their kids how the world is supposed to work, not literally every single person's on the planet? If the kids see someone doing something they shouldn't try to emulate, don't yell at the stranger doing the thing (another thing kids shouldn't do), explain to the kid why it's wrong and/or dangerous! Why is that so hard for some people to grasp?

Second comment after I finished the whole video! Lol about the worst Karen I've encountered so far. So now that I'm out of the service industry after waitressing and bartending for over 18 years and dealing with those type of Karens, I now work with IDD adults (which are mentally disabled adults) and I absolutely love my job now! But anyway, I was picking up one of my clients like I do a few days a week and his neighbor comes flying out to my car while I'm waiting for him to come outside. She was screaming at me like a lunatic because the front of my car was in front of her driveway. Now mind you, I wasn't blocking her in or anything, she wasn't trying to pull out of it, and I'm literally there for 5 minutes tops. So while she's yelling at me I'm just staring at her smiling, trying to kill her with kindness and I said I'm very sorry, if you were trying to leave I would have moved, I didn't realize it was a big deal. She said there's plenty of room to park across the road and this is the 3rd day in a row you did this. I said, well no, i haven't been here in the last 2 days, so that was obviously someone else. She started yelling again and saying shes gonna get me fired for disrepecting her, blah blah blah. Even though all I did was try to explain that it wasn't me. I said ma'am, I'm picking up a disabled client and I do not want him to have to cross a busy street and get hurt. So then this bi*ch says, I don't give a f**k about the ret*rds you pick up, get the f**k away from my driveway. I was absolutely stunned. This is his neighbor! And you're calling him that?! I said wow what a classy lady you are, I hope you're happy that he just heard everything you said. He was in my car at this point. She said once again, I don't give a f**k. I said ok ma'am, have a blessed day! And that made her even more mad, so she took a picture of my license plate and said who do you work for. I said that's none of your business have a nice day, Karen and drove off. I was so angry. My client was really upset but said, yea she's always really mean to us. I don't understand why. So that broke my heart. So now everyday I go there to pick him up I make sure I wave as I drive by 😂

Omg so I remember when I was 15, me and my friend went to meet up with our other friend after school, the day was going well and then I was like “Can we pop into Tesco really quick, I want to get a rockstar/Mountain Dew (can’t remember which one it was)” so we go in and this woman bumped into us with her trolley, we apologised even though it was her that walked into us but anyway we apologised and just thought nothing of it, we got to the isle where the drinks were and this woman had FOLLOWED US around the store, stopped us and just started SCREAMING at us because apparently she didn’t hear us apologise??? I can’t remember what she was saying exactly but the husband came along after seeing the commotion to ask what was going on, and I’m my head I’m thinking “Oh good he’s going to come and get her away from us” he was just as unhinged as she was, he was getting right in one of my friend’s faces, puffing out his chest trying to act all big and hard, and then I remember the woman looked at me and said “She needs to stop looking at me before I punch her in the mouth” to which my other friend responds “We’re looking at you because you and your husband are screaming at us for no reason” can I reiterate that we were 15 YEARS OLD, this couple had to have been late 30s early 40s threatening literal children in the middle of Tesco, I just wanted to get my drink and go. They then decided to walk away and the husband turns and says “I’ll be waiting for you outside” (which he wasn’t lmao) but still most unhinged Karen experience I’ve ever had 😹

But with just verbal threats alone I don’t think police would have done anything since there were no witnesses, it would have been our word against theirs and I don’t think the police would take the word of teenagers over adults so that’s why we didn’t think of that 😅 also my friends were guys though I’m not really sure how it’s relevant but since you brought it up??

    • @John_Weiss
      @John_Weiss ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@PsychedelicKitten I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to make you feel bad about it.
My point was that there are horrid adult men in this world who think they can get away with _threatening teenage girls with violence._
Anyone who does that needs to be taught a hard lesson that threatening assault is not acceptable, in my opinion.
Again, I didn't write this comment to criticize you. I wrote it to say that you were _absolutely_ entitled to take that as a threat to your safety and thus _absolutely_ entitled to protection.
I brought up the "teen-boy vs. teen-girl" think because, having once been a teen-boy many decades ago, 😉I know what being marinated in testosterone does to your thinking. 😆 So my advice-to-a-teen-guy is based on the simple fact that:
        (1) While teen boys are _also_ entitled to safety, teen boys are also testosterone-soaked-ego-monsters and going so far as to call the authorities would be a large hit to the ego. 😉
        (2) Some middle-aged-male-asstrumpet who's willing to assault a teen boy is also willing to turn around and claim to be the victim, claiming that the teen started the fight.
Hence this old Internet Uncle-Gay's advice to teen dudes to inform someone with some sort of authority [like a store manager] that you've been threatened, and to ask them to be a witness in case you do have to defend yourself.
Lastly, not every reply to something you write online is an attack! Sometimes someone is responding to say, "You didn't deserve to go through that." There are still people around who mean others well, even if we're growing increasingly rare…

    Karen story:
So as a little background I'm a waitress at a little restaurant and I'm the ONLY night shift worker. This was earlier on when I was still kinda new (about 7 months in, I've been here for 7 years now).
My boss allows me to eat as soon as I get here with the other staff if I want to. That day I decided to get something because I hadn't eaten at all. I had 1 other girl sitting at the booth eating with me who was morning staff and she was about to leave. A lady walks in and stands at the front I get up to go greet her and get her taken care of. She begins berating me about eating and demands to know what right I have to eat while customers are coming in and out. I begin explaining the circumstances and she isn't having it. By this time the other girl had gotten up to grab a box to pack up the rest of her lunch. The karen clearly saw her in the middle of her rant and she looked at the other girl and said "i didnt realise there were more staff eating here but you should both be ashamed". Again like the newbie I was I explained to her that were allowed to eat at this time as long as we keep everything in check. Finally I brought the lady her food and told her to have a nice day. She scoffed and said "I won't be back"... unfortunately I still have to deal with Karen's of all kinds but its usually on our blue moon days or on Sundays when all the snooty people come in.
Thanks for reading ❤ I love your videos Roly 🌈 🖤

One of the most recent Karen moments that stands out to me - I work in a phone shop, Christmas Eve a woman came in to the shop, had the Karen bob, her name actually was Karen, her broadband line was down and she was losing it that no one was going to fix and actually said "this is ridiculous, not everyone celebrates Christmas" and just kept ranting abut how her Christmas was ruined now because she was having guests over and wouldn't be able to play music for them 🤷‍♀

Reminds me of the time I was in San Francisco airport. Horrible weather meant a lot of flights were delayed in the late afternoon-evening. This entitled couple in front of me at baggage inquiry lost their collective minds when they were told their checked luggage didn’t make it on our flight but would be coming on the next one in a few hours time. Mr Tweedle Dum and Ms Tweedle Dee both packed their house keys in their checked bags like absolute idiots. Both start screaming at the employee about how it wasn’t good enough that they were on the next flight and how were they going to get into their house now. Absolutely berated this poor woman over something she couldn’t control. They both stormed off swearing at her and I was just gobsmacked at the behaviour. Before I even asked about my own bags I said to her “I am so sorry that happened to you. That is not your fault and you don’t deserve to be spoken to like that”.

This reminds me of a time I was in a really busy public bathroom, and these two secondary school aged girls had locked themselves in one of the stalls and were just hanging out in there, chatting and watching tiktoks. They were in there for quite a long time, because a few hours later I went back to use the bathroom again, and as I was waiting in line an old woman banged on the door of their stall and told them to get out. They left giggling and acting like a weird crazy thing had just happened to them. What did they expect? Some people are just so entitled, why did they think a busy public bathroom with a long queue outside was the ideal hang out spot and that there wouldn't be consequences for it? Like you could clearly tell they've never thought about another person in their entire lives. It's the same attitude as the woman from this story.

I had my first Karen experience when I was about 16, maybe 17. I'd gone shopping with my mam and my brother, who would have been almost 2 at that point. We'd already finished, but my mam had forgotten something, so she asked me to keep an eye on my brother while she quickly went to grab it. So, I'm pushing my brother back and forth in the trolly, making him laugh, when two old woman walk past, and one says to the other, deliberately loud enough for me to hear, while keeping her eyes on me, "That's just disgusting, babies having babies!" Obviously, she assumed my brother was my son. I wish I could tell you I had some quippy response, but in reality I was (and kind of still am) too scared to stand up for myself, so I just seethed silently, and ranted to my mam when she got back.

During the first lockdown I was waiting outside a supermarket. I was talking to an old man while we were waiting and the line moved. The old man walked moved forward and I was a second behind him when a Kevin pushed in front of me. I'm not a confrontational person but I had been waiting for 20 mins so I told him to go to the back of the queue. His excuse? "There was a gap and you weren't moving" (remember the 2 meter rule?). Thankfully 3 other people jumped in and he left. The face he made was a gem as though it was my fault. I still laugh about it today.

Yesterday, I was at the laundry matt. A woman pulled in and was taking her baskets out of her car when she dropped one. An older woman walking by stopped and asked if she needed help. This women literally SCREAMED at her "NO! IF I WANTED YOUR HELP I WOULD HAVE ASKED FOR IT! GET AWAY FROM ME!" The older woman stepped back, kinda shocked, and said "oh. Ok. Sorry!" I was like..wow. what a b.... then a little later, I'm sitting in my car with the window down and she's like "is this the calm before the storm?" I said "what do you mean?" She looked so offended and said "there's a huge storm coming through tonight. You don't watch the weather?" I dead panned looked her right in the eye and said "I prefer true crime. " she scoffed and called me ridiculous and stormed away 😂 it's rare to see an actual Karen in the wild!

My mother was taking my grandmother (80 years old at the time) on the Cable Car in Wellington, NZ. There was also a school class on the Cable Car, all of whom were taking up the seats. Mum asked a couple of the kids, who were 10 or 11, to stand up so Grandma could sit down, and one of the parent helpers turned around and said, no the child was to stay sitting for his safety. Mum, who was so polite to people, was a bit taken aback but politely pointed out the signs on the cable car that said children were to give up seats for elderly, pregnant or disabled people. That sign has been on buses and trains all over New Zealand since I was a child (I'm now 53.) This Karen started yelling at Mum saying that if the cable car stopped suddenly and a child was standing they could break a bone. The kids were all looking a bit embarrassed. Grandma had Alzheimer's disease and was a bit wobbly on her pins but she loved going on the buses and cable car. This woman just kept on going. There were a lot of very pissed off people on the cable car that day. Another adult stood up for Grandma and Mum. Mum wasn't asking for a seat for herself. That evening, when she was telling us about this, my very stoical mother, started crying. She couldn't believe that someone could be so horrible to a beautiful, dignified elderly woman. I am a former primary school teacher. I would never have let this happen. If it's so important for all children to be seated, you hire a charter bus.

I technically still work in retail, but I have the safety of telling people "Oh I just work for online" to shift them off me. But I've only been trapped in a goods lift with heaps of garbage, on my birthday, in the middle of summer.
My favourite Karen story was when one of my close friends and I were working together in customer service, in the same place. I was on the phone with a customer, googling another store, because it was the best way to give her the opening hours and phone number. Sweet old lady, so I was being very friendly back. My friend is off tidying, but she saw this lady and me being on the phone with this lady still and rushed back. The first thing Karen does is accuse me of ignoring her for a personal call. I snapped at this lady a bit "I was googling another store for a nice old lady" (whilst pointing to the phone). My friend WENT FOR HER and yelled the same thing at her! We didn't care if we are in a fancy flagship department store in the big city, we don't take crap and stick up for each other. This lady just looked shocked and left her purchase on the counter and left in silence. It was a pretty sizeable purchase, but we just cracked up and put the stuff away.

I had a really funny encounter with a Karen when on a night out. So for a bit of context I was a nightclub bouncer at creation which was the biggest club in our city at this point (around 2004). So as you can imagine I had banned and thrown 100s of people out in the years of working there. So I had a Saturday night off which rarely happens. I was in the cloakroom queue as I wasn't rude enough to just walk to the front even though I worked there. This woman recognised me as throwing her partner out the week before and decided she needed to stand up for him and confront me. She was like you threw him out so it's all your fault he's now barred. I was like well he must have done something to justify being thrown out. She was like no it's just because he didn't fancy you I bet. I was like yeah OK if you say so. She was like apologise and let him back in next week and I won't give u a beating right here in front of everyone. I was like look love do one and leave me alone. She was so riled by this that she said she was going to bottle me with her drink that she had in her hand. I was like yeah go ahead it's plastic 😂 then she was like OK then I'm going to take my shoes off and stick the heel through your eyeball. Unfortunately for her we had just left the doors of the club at this point and it was notorious at kicking out time and she said it in front of an on duty police officer. He looked at me and went charges I was like if ya want he went lovely charges for you my dear come with me and bundled her into the back of the police van. This lead to her also being barred and photos of her being put up so she couldn't get back in x

Karen story incoming. I once was on a packed train which I had paid for an EXPENSIVE first class ticket to ensure I could sit down (long journey at peak time). I go to the first class seats and the most stereotypical blonde highlights, wallet case iPhone 5 using Karen was sat in the seat next to the one I had reserved and her daughter (maybe 3 …so young they didn’t need to pay kinda age) was sat on their iPad in my seat. I asked politely if she could sit her daughter in her lap so I could sit down. This Karen snapped her wallet iPhone case shut and GLARED AT ME eyes WIDE open and said nothing. I just showed her my ticket and said this is the seat I reserved… and asked again less politely this time. The Karen proceeded to yell at me and said “THERE ARE NO RESERVED SEATS when I booked this I didn’t get any choice and neither did you!!! You got on after us so you can stand young lady”.
Long story short… after lots of screaming at me and others on the carriage she called the ticket inspector over and started crying saying I was forcing her child to be in danger by sitting on her lap or forcing the child to stand for the long journey and threatened to text the British transport police as I was apparently ‘discriminating against her being a single mother’. Fortunately the ticket inspector and two men on the carriage took my side and again told her to move out of first class as she 1) hadn’t paid to be there and 2) was being so obnoxiously loud she made another woman’s child cry and say they were scared. As the Karen got up she made a gagging noise and said “ew you greasy chav” (I had a slicked back bun and was wearing a tracksuit because it was comfy for travel ) and splashed her bottle of water over the back of my head as she got off…. Literally 1 stop after she got on 😅
Funnily enough I see her at my local train station very frequently and still to this day he points and tuts. Hilarious honestly 😂

Never had an experience with a Karen, but I did have an experience with a Bible thumper… My friend and I just got out of a Breathe Carolina concert that took place at a club. Right next to that club was gay club. The guy was screaming how they were going to hell and just verbally abusing them. I remember getting so angry that I walked right up to him and said “Excuse me, but what you are doing is abusive.” He then flipped around and told me I was a heathen because I had piercings… then tried to school me on the Bible. The argument got so heated that some of the tour staff came up to make sure it was safe and they called the cops because the guy wouldn’t leave and he kept screaming at everyone. I myself believe in God but I hate religion! It’s nothing but an excuse for humans to be vile towards others and then say it’s because God said to. It’s been at least 10 years since that happened but it is something I will never forget…

Hey there. I've also worked in retail for various brands for something like 20 years. But you're right. People can be so rude. Many people feel that they are always number one. Oh yeah. Don't let it overshadow the fun memory of your lunch. I sympathize with you as someone with autism who is gay and looks different from others. You are very open and honest and enjoy watching your videos. 😉👋

In my totally non-scientific opinion, i reckon the Karen evolution either happens after being pregnant/giving birth the first time, or people be settling for whatever they find 😩😂

To be fair, you acted more calm than me. You kept your cool for a good hot minute. The second she said i was just stood there id of gone and got in the lift and made them come out for their flipping photo. And told her ive somewhere i need to get too now i can't stand in this beautiful corridor allday!!!!!!
I am a mother and i can rage at the best of times. But i wont infront of my children. However if someone else had something to say to me id never be like sssshhhh child present 😂

Roly, I love your way! Retail worker here and yes, I stay silent when i am at work, but if i catch people being rude to other retail workers as if they are their master, i just...lose it (and make up for the THOUSANDS of times i had to swallow shit like that at my own work, haha!)

I'm disabled, I use a mobility scooter to get around because a) scooters are cheaper than electric wheelchairs and b) I can't use a manual/self propelled wheelchair by myself.
I was in a hotel in Blackpool, just scooting down towards my room when a Karen scoffed to her friends "people think they're in 4king Benidorm." I was mortified, didn't say anything. I decided to go back to see if I could find them to confront her, but they were gone.
I can laugh at the comment now, it was quite witty, but unfortunately I just refuse to go out these days because of the nasty comments, tutting, etc I receive. You see, I'm only 42 (but can still pass for 30 or younger 💪) I'm overweight and I don't always look ill, so people wrongly assume I'm just lazy. Now I'm a hermit, still trying to use covid (with my chemo) as an excuse not to go anywhere.
The older I get, the less I can tollerate people.
Great video as always, Roly x
