I think they're aiming for it to sound Vocaloid-y so: 1 - It doesn't sound too uncanny at first (also probably why there are cartoon-y versions of her) 2 - To tap into the Vocaloid fan market The otaku market is where the money is really at. Her market is 100% not the same as other idols lol I'd really like to hear her sound human, though. Just to see what it would sound like. They'd also make mad bank if they sold her as a voicebank so fans could make their own material with her voice like Hatsune Miku.
Also, besides the focus in the vocaloid market, I think if they made her sound her too human, because IA already can do that, people would had SM trying to replace real idols, calling unethical etc etc. So, the uncanny valley it’s more interesting, because you listen and already now this is not a real person and isn’t meant to be.

The awful use of AI when they have absolutely no need to (even deep fake technology to achieve the hyperrealism, which imo is extremely unethical in the current context). The fact you can see they were so lazy they didn't even bother to correct the hands in the AI-generated promotional images, that's enough proof they really didn't care and wanted to do the project just to maintain their reputation as "innovators in the industry." Such a forced way to do it. They probably didn't even study popular virtual bands/groups/artists out there to realize the reason to their success has always been the human artists behind it (musically and visually). Even crazy frog has more soul

In the Korean industry this is quite new. But in the Japanese industry, idols of this kind have become commonplace(CMIIW). But I don't know if they used human voice and then did the slightest adjustment to the sound. To be honest, the final selection of the voice of naevis was disappointing no matter how much they succeeded in killing the music video.
Naevis's voice is literally just the voices of Aespa combined using AI. You can tell because she sounds like Ningning when she goes high and Karina when she goes low. You can also really hear Giselle when she said done
