@Yasoboy It's not nice to blame the current generation as it is their fault. Likewise, we should not blame the currentJapanese for the bad things that their forefathers have done. Like yourself, I wish to see that all the Chinese worldwide stay together as one, but unfortunately this is not possible. Pro China commenters should differ themselves from the anti China commenters who always brings up the past bad deeds of China commited by the previous CCP leaders.
Different cultures have different origins. They are fundamentally different. so the question is what is freedom? what is the standard of freedom? who defines the freedom? Chinese culture is totally different with different standards. All those concepts in China such as freedom, democracy and even communism are just perceived differently by Chinese people.
In contract to other developing countries (which were colonized by Western countries before WWII), China chose a different path and built its own standards. That is the secret of rise of China.
Chinese person: do you guys have kung-fu in Canada???? Canadian: Yes, we do.....let me show you....here is a curved stick, a pair of skates and a puck. Chinese person: I don't think this is kung-fu.... Canadian: Oh no there is fighting in fact more intense than what you guys do over there in China...plenty of the players rarely have any teeth left. Chinese person: No this is not kung-fu....this is something different...People in Canada don't have Kung-Fu alright! Canadian: Well...our definition of Kung-Fu is different than yours...please don't use your standard of "kung-fu" on us...we have our own version of Kung-Fu and we like it the way it is......if you come to Canada you will understand and if you have never visited Canada please don't make statements like that.
I once volunteered in the depressed area of Baltimore, there if you don't own a car, you have no freedom of movement whatsoever since there is barely any public transportation. The nearby wealthier towns have jobs, but you can't get there. And since you can't get there to make money, you can't afford a car. So these people are trapped in generational poverty. The cheap and prevalence of public transportation has indeed given Chinese people so much more freedom and upward mobility.
Yes, especially in metropolitans, for example, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing. There are several videos about them on youtube. When I have time, I would put some vlogs onto youtube.
China is very safe! Only one dangerous thing is that when you go outside at midnight, you might spend most of your money in the restaurants...The food are delicious!!!🥰
So true. Especially if you say you are from Xin Jiang, they immediately want to liberate you Iraq style. If you say you don't want to be liberated, they say you are brainwashed. America is obsessed with liberating China, especially liberating China from the burden of its wealth.

Hi Barrett, no need to apologise for China, even though I am a Malaysian Chinese. The march to be a world superpower with safe and clean cities and environment will be part of the march of China into the 21st Century. All society is a continuum of time and progress. No country or society is static. At the beginning of 1949, China was everybody colonies but nobody's responsibility. It has come a long way and lifted some 700 million people out of poverty and soon to be the largest economy in 2030 and by 2050 will have an economy four times the size of the second largest i.e. USA. So do not fear or apologise for China for what she is. She will transform this Century to be the Asian Century which is in reality the East Asian Century.
Since the Reform and Opening Up (改革开放) was introduced by Deng Xiaoping in 1978, and by the end of 2018, a total of 5.86 million Chinese students have left the country to study abroad. Out of these, 4.32 million had completed their studies, and more than 3.65 million have returned to China soon after completing their studies. In 2018 alone, around 662,100 Chinese students left China to pursue overseas studies. The number increased by about 11.8% compared to the previous year and makes China the largest country of origin for international students. Chinese tourists made 149 million overseas trips in 2018 with total spending amounting to $130 billion, according to a report released by the China Tourism Academy. This phenomenon - of Chinese citizens being allowed to travel abroad and returning - is undoubtedly a powerful indication that China (1) does not oppress its citizens’ pursuit of liberty, freedom, and happiness; and (2) is confident that its own socioeconomic and sociopolitical system are highly competitive; even if they are compared with those of the West, and to the extent that its citizens are expected to return.
having heard a comment on the video makes me think back to my first night on main land china. I went for a walk on my own at 2 in the morning and got stopped by a policeman, not speaking cantonese and no passport on me was a little bit worried but the policeman only wanted to try out his English with me and we talked for a good half hour about every thing from cars to our goverments and he did say that like me he did not think they got it right all the time, so yes they can say what they want.
It seems a nice chat with a Chinese policyman on your first night in China. There are so many policeman on streets. We Chinese people like them and respect them a lot. Because they always help us and protect us. We call them policyman uncle when we were a kid. They are very nice.
You and I think so much alike. Safety and security is one of the greatest freedom. I have female cousins that visit us in Canada, they often comment on how free they feel as they can go out at night without worrying about their safety. Stark contrast to their life in San Francisco where they don't feel safe going out after dark without a large group of people.
Officials passports are kept by the government! People are not allowed to have different opinions from the government, not allowed to criticize the government!
As a Chinese, I have learnt to “be amused, rather than insulted” and to “ignore western people who are stuck in their arrogance and self-privilege rather than argue with them”. Thank you for your video.

Well after having read so many comments supporting China and Chinese, I’m very shocked and a bit not accustomed.. as a chinese I have already got used to be misunderstood... well thank you to u guys
On the topic of China, coming back to China has made me realize many things, even more things than last year, I know love China even more than before and they has never been a time to be more proud as a Chinese in modern history. China is not what it used to be, it is no longer a sick, ill country, but a glorious nation on the rise to become the most glorious in human history. Let's address the elephanto in the room, in western democratic states and other democratic states pretty much hate China, in Australia, you would never hear anything good about China, you would never hear anything praising or celebrating China and it's achievements. It's all just negativity upon negativity upon negativity. Worst of all, the media and government always use a uglifying and condescending tone whenever they report and/or speak about China, and to be honest, so much of it can be considered as fake or at least, misleading news. From the fake bullshit they do on Xinjiang and the Chinese governments "evil" actions in the area, or the support for the Hong Kong protestors retards who think smashing buildings and throwing molotovs and setting buildings and innocent people on fire will make them more "free", whatever the fuck that means. I'm in support for protest, as long as it's peaceful, by the way it looks now, the Hong Kong protestors have completely lost any shed of legitimacy they might have had a long time ago. Wow I wonder why the police "brutality" only happens when the protestors are becoming super violent and are setting buildings on fire. It's not as if the police are supposed to enforce and act upon the law and maintain social stability amiright 🙄🙄🙄🙄. There are so many people out there, who are so absolutely clueless about China and so childish, naive, foolish, ignorant, uneducated, and have their realities completely distorted, and they're all so fired up and vigilant to believe that they're so right, yet in reality they're actually so wrong. These people are so unknowledgeable on the topic and issue, it's very baffling and even shocking to see that so many people are so embarrassingly stupid and ignorant, it's so out of the world and almost comical, yet very sad at the same time. I absolutely love China. I have come to actually love it and its people even more than I did before. Everyone here are just living happy and prosperous ordinary lives, grow up, find love, get married, have kids, and repeat, no difference whatsoever to the lives of the "Western democracies" or other "democratic states". People wear nice clothes, drive fancy cars, live in fancy homes, have fancy furniture, eat fancy food, girls put on makeup, drip hypebeast stuff, go out shopping, have coffee, have a night out with the boys, or maybe a gaming sesh with the boys, old aunties and the elderly stroll along with full swag, people chill in parks, people sit around and play board games, people sit around and just chill with their mates, people sit around and gossip about all sorts of stuff whilst sipping on tea, people exercise in gyms, children play around joyfully with big smiles on their faces in playgrounds, restaurants open till midnight, street snacks for all the boys, great law enforcement, a very safe and productive society, etc. etc. etc… the list goes on. There are so many embarrassingly clueless and ignorant people out there who just refuse to take off their biased glasses, very sad indeed. I am honestly disgusted and just shocked at the fact in this day and age people still think of China as some sort of communist gulag state like North Korea. Like yeah it's you told me China was pretty shit in 1960, I'd completely agree with you, but if someone were to tell me China is still shit in 2020, they'd probably need to check their head. It's actually so insulting that people view China like this and become so anti-China or anti-Chinese government. When in reality, China is actually MORE free than other countries which are against it. For example, most obviously is the complete lack of universal health care and insurance in America, most of the time, when you contract or get a very serious illness, you either pay the money, or you die, so in a sense, restricting your freedoms so much that your right to live has been taken away. What about China then? Well there is universal health care coverage for all, young people (toddlers, children, teens) and the elderly as well as the disabled and people with special cases such as the one child policy generation families get special and better treatment. And at times a surgery that costs $20000, can be subsidized by the government to be just around $3000 This is not hypothetical, this is a real case with my grandma who had to have a life saving heart surgery. It is very depressing and almost funnily sad that being anti-China and anti-Chinese government has become politically correct and the norm which everyone should follow. I had my doubt about China as well, I used to hate the Chinese government so much and thought that Xi Jinping ate babies for breakfast or some shit. But then I studied, I learnt, I analyzed, and I researched, but mostly importantly, I came to China to see for myself. The elephanto in the room is that everyone think because China doesn't have One man one vote, it is then basically North Korea. Essentially no "democracy" = bad, people need to overcome this mental hurdle and barrier. I overcame it by studying about Singapore and how it went from a poverty striken swamp land to the most developed country on Earth, and especially about its leader, Lee Kuan Yew, and his philosophy and ways of doing things. China is not democratic, because democracy is fundamentally flawed, China is a meritocracy, which is the best political system and there are literally no downsides to it. It is basically where the best people are chosen for the job based on their merit, and their ability to do the job properly and well. Unlike modern democracy, where the best candidate to lead the country is based on how much people feel charmed by them or how well they appear on TV (Look at Ukraine lol they literally elected a comedian to be their president wtf). YES, China is not a PERFECT country, there are many issues, just like every other normal country, what people NEED to do is to take off their stupid biased glasses and understand that China is a normal country where ordinary people live happy, prosperous lives, and honestly most of time, a happier life than most its neighbours and other countries (just take at look at Korea, the country with the highest suicide rate in the world by far, or Japan, where the population is declining, compare with China where it's the happiest country in East Asia, has one of the lowest rates according to population and also booming in population). People need to also understand that the Chinese government is not one sort of 1984 big brother North Korean commie gulag government, but a normal government, with departments, ministries, regional governments, networks and so on... It is a government which sets its aim at making the Chinese people's lives better, and making China greater. Keep doing what you do and show the world the REAL China!!

yes it's one of the most ridiculous views on the western mainstream medias. they want to portray that normal chinese citizens living under the surveillance system may lose their "credit" by just throwing rubbish or spitting in the street. lack of freedom. how would the government want to invest to 1.4billion for this matter?! those kind of stupid reports are often recommended to me when i'm on facebook. i read the comments many french people do believe it, ridiculous.
I imagined China like that until I decided to visit China last year. I've stopped believe in the mainstream media lies. China is a beautiful country that most mainstream media is trying to demonizes it.
As a Chinese, I want to say that some Westerners do not have the freedom to connect with the right information. It ’s ridiculous and sad to talk about the freedom of the Chinese.😂😂😂
Westerners do have the freedom to connect to the right information. It’s just that maybe some are too stupid to do so. Chinese citizens on the other hand have absolutely no freedom to connect to the right information. They only have the ability to receive government-sanctioned information.
It's just astonishing for me that when a lot of the westerner youtubers comment on China I think they are talking about maybe North Korea or something else. Why not just come to China for once to see if it's as terrible as they assume. Chinese people are just living their ordinary lives like any other people in the West. And in a lot of regions you will actually feel it’s more modernized and fashionable compared to most parts of the western countries that come to your mind.

I have travelled myself. China by far has many problems . Christians in China experienced, among other things, an increase in attacks on churches in the past year. Open Doors reports that 793 churches were attacked within the reporting period for the 2018 World Watch List, compared with 1,847 attacks reported on churches worldwide in 2019. In 2020, the number is conservatively estimated to be at least 5,576 in China alone, the report states. According to Open Doors, there are at least 97 million Christians in China. Policies enacted by the Communist Party in 2018 to “sinicize” the church - or adapt it to their way of thinking - have been enforced in more and more territories, resulting in the dramatic increase of persecution against Christians, the group reports. People of faith also suffer from continual surveillance by the government. Open Doors cites a CNBC report that says there are nearly half a billion surveillance cameras in China, a number only expected to grow. Additionally, Children under the age of 18 are prohibited from attending church, places of worship are monitored, and pastors are increasingly being asked to register with the Communist government, risking church closure and arrest if they refuse, the report continues. More than 5,500 churches in China have been closed down, and churches in at least 23 provinces have been harassed or shuttered.
Nothing is perfect. China is not the best or the worst But surely they have improved so much compare to 15 years ago While in Australia, they are falling behind in a lot of things
Although I have never been to Australia, it is indeed the safest place in the world in terms of security. People here will welcome the opportunity to visit China
You are absolutely correct! We just returned from China after a month trip. Chinese have as much freedom as Americans to practice religions and criticizing government. The only major exception is Chinese are not allowed to carry arm like crazy American.
I have lived in both China and the UK for a few years, found there is no difference in freedom, and I still feel that China's public security is better in the evening, even in China at two or three in the morning dare to go out on my own. People must come to China to travel a few times in their lives, there are unlimited delicious foods, fun places and unique culture.
im pretty free as a chinese citizen, well as long as i dont meddle around with some contraversial political affairs. For instance, minorities issue has complicated historic reasons. I dont think anyone without a proper history and sociology knowledge can make proper criticism about this issue. Last time we went easy with those extremist, they killed dozens and hundreds of innocent civillians in Xinjiang. U know, those "Tukistan" guys love to hang out with ISIS, Taliban and Al Qeada dudes. Ofc, there are still lots of negative side of the CPC government, such as corruptions, bureaucracy and bunch of old conservative, studdbern and tough dudes, just like Trump and those senators in US. But hey, US also has lots of shitty affairs (Refer to Snowden and WikiLeaks) and often tried to mess things up as well. I'd say all governments are quite similar in terms of this. Nothing special to me. BTW, We are not USSR or DPRK or Nazi Germany Reich if u still havent noticed yet. If we were llike USSR, i'd be in a labor camp already even before finishing typ No XD just kidding. I'm not getting into any trouble by saying these either, as long I dont behave like a CIA spy or making up the fake news.
“im pretty free as a chinese citizen, we’ll as long as i dont meddle around with some contraversial political affairs” LOL. Actually, I shouldn’t laugh. Because it’s really sad to see some people’s definition of freedom. I know this guy does feel free, and good for him. Perhaps he does not foresee the need to be involved in political activities such as voting. But not all Chinese people feel this way.
@@realguy6964 although chinese leaders got their job not by universal votes, they nevertheless have to pass through the internal CCP party members' votes. All the CCP party members come from the common people, in many way they are more righteous and dutiful citizens of chinese people, they represent the pillar of chinese society, so their votes speak volumes. By the way, China have nearly 92millions CCP members, which are much more than many countries' entire population! So, are these people's votes not validate to western world view? @@andrewzhang985 ... "All the CCP party members come from the common people". NOT true at all. "Some" party members, not all. Hi. I am Chinese and live in England. I know there are certain parts of China there are few registered churches, but at the same time lots of other churches are torned down. Why is that?. Is Govt fearful of Christianity?. So it is not true when you say that there is alot of freedom.
As a Chinese citizen who is raising up in Guangdong, I would say I enjoyed more freedom in before 2013. Freedom just like air you can only feel it when you lose it, I think a getting breathless as the the air is draining out. Then I leave.
I visit Shanghai and Beijing on 2015. I dont see any difference in terms of freedom from any other country except restriction on some apps like TH-cam.

This story just made news yesterday: a guy in China got a parking ticket when he picked up his kid from school and left his car by the curb, that's normal, and happens everyday. But he complained in his "friends' circle" on WeChat, not vulgar, but something in the level of "oh, screw that", all his "friends" saw the posting (just like on any social media), and he got arrested and eventually released with a fine. Challenging the authority is never allowed. On the other hand, I do feel a lot safer in China, especially when going out at night.

Great video indeed !!! As a Chinese people, I would say my freedom is not only about I could do what I want to do, its should plus the responsibility. I just come back from my 3 months vacation at Alps and Japan to Beijing, 2 weeks quarantine at home (I am lucky, not too late). I know this kind of things make Europeans and Americans crazy, its a nightmare for them. After 14 days, am I FREE to go on the street ? As the law, yes ! But I have keep extra 2 weeks quarantine at home, total one month. We call it as responsibility, the freedom is not only for ourself, also for family, for parents, friends, for our neighbour, for the people we love. Meantime, I read a lot of news that as COVID-19 stay home and social distancing people still go up to the mountains at Utah and Colorado, trigger avalanche, involve many times rescues. Yes, they have the freedom to make their choice.

Pass the good news forward. Build a nice home and retire in the countryside of China where the weather permits.
Yasoboy I am sure you are a rude person from Taiwan province in disguise. Your brain is not competent to read.
@Yasoboy stop it! Are you stupid?
@Yasoboy It's not nice to blame the current generation as it is their fault. Likewise, we should not blame the currentJapanese for the bad things that their forefathers have done. Like yourself, I wish to see that all the Chinese worldwide stay together as one, but unfortunately this is not possible. Pro China commenters should differ themselves from the anti China commenters who always brings up the past bad deeds of China commited by the previous CCP leaders.
Chinese has demonstrated that when people love their country, they can do the incredible things..... my respect to China!

China learning from Western countries as well as its own mistakes to make it a more comfortable and safe society to live.

Thank you for speaking out the other side of the picture that the Western media does not talk about. I really appreciate it.
Those who are brainwashed or paid by the western media or politicians really look funny.
I have also heard and watched several videos saying China is very safe.
Yes, especially in metropolitans, for example, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing. There are several videos about them on youtube. When I have time, I would put some vlogs onto youtube.
You better go to China and feel it bro
Of course. You can stand outside at midnight.
China is very safe! Only one dangerous thing is that when you go outside at midnight, you might spend most of your money in the restaurants...The food are delicious!!!🥰

And at times a surgery that costs $20000, can be subsidized by the government to be just around $3000
This is not hypothetical, this is a real case with my grandma who had to have a life saving heart surgery.

As a Chinese, I want to say that some Westerners do not have the freedom to connect with the right information. It ’s ridiculous and sad to talk about the freedom of the Chinese.😂😂😂
Good one :)
Well said!
It merely shows their lack of freedom because they're afraid to say that they like China.
Westerners do have the freedom to connect to the right information. It’s just that maybe some are too stupid to do so. Chinese citizens on the other hand have absolutely no freedom to connect to the right information. They only have the ability to receive government-sanctioned information.
Well at least they don't have a great firewall keeping them from connecting to any information they damn well please
It's just astonishing for me that when a lot of the westerner youtubers comment on China I think they are talking about maybe North Korea or something else. Why not just come to China for once to see if it's as terrible as they assume. Chinese people are just living their ordinary lives like any other people in the West. I just want to ask, why is it that youtube is banned and censored in china, the same for facebook, twitter?
China is not the best or the worst
But surely they have improved so much compare to 15 years ago

I have lived in both China and the UK for a few years, found there is no difference in freedom, and I still feel that China's public security is better in the evening, even in China at two or three in the morning dare to go out on my own. People must come to China to travel a few times in their lives, there are unlimited delicious foods, fun places and unique culture.
Thanks for your opinion. Welcome to China.

Thank you for sharing your view of freedom of the ppl in China. Much appreciated.
Thank you for sharing your ideas of China. Nice vedio. We Chinese actually didn't care so much policy. What we want is a happier and richer life
Donated. I seldom donate because most are scams, but your work really corroborates my own personal experience too. Respects!
Thank you so much, really appreciate that.
My understanding is limited internet unless you pay for a VPN. I think a VPN is the only way you can use Facebook, or TH-cam in China.
How did the Chinese people in the comment section ended up in TH-cam? Isnt it banned in China? 😂
Hi. I am Chinese and live in England.
I know there are certain parts of China there are few registered churches, but at the same time lots of other churches are torned down.
Why is that?. Is Govt fearful of Christianity?. So it is not true when you say that there is alot of freedom.
I lived in Southampton for a couple years. This accent sounds really familiar. You channel may be targeted by CIA and Falungong paid trolls very soon.
As a Chinese,I must say, there are things that we don’t have so much freedom to do,but the word freedom ,naturally is a relatively word.
How FREE are Chinese People?
China have the most tourist around the globe.... is that clear enough
Can I marry my gay partner in China?
As a Chinese citizen who is raising up in Guangdong, I would say I enjoyed more freedom in before 2013. Freedom just like air you can only feel it when you lose it, I think a getting breathless as the the air is draining out. Then I leave.
A:They are not free! They must fight for their freedom!
B:Why?Have you been to China?
A:No,but I can feel for them.🤔
B:🌚
I visit Shanghai and Beijing on 2015. I dont see any difference in terms of freedom from any other country except restriction on some apps like TH-cam.
Why do you sound so nervous ?
When I was in lincoln way west high school. Ms Jessica soukup and ms ree née was my teacher and aide 24/7!!!!))**

I was born and raised in China, and I love my country. So, imagine my surprise when people started telling me how I was being "oppressed". What?
Wearing t shirt in January, this is real Shenzhen
在湖南已经棉袄加身,确定是隔壁省么😅
LOL🤣🤣🤣🤣
Raised in the west but always been proud of my roots in China 🇨🇳. So happy to see the great progress being made in the motherland.
Beautiful park. Where?

Thank you for being honest and open minded
Don’t care, just want affordable China products
thank u for telling the truth and being objective
Nice video. Is there a way to buy you a couple of coffee using Wechat?
Sure, you can just use the wechat code at the start of the video to make a donation 🙂
@@BarrettYT Just made a donation using the wechat code. Oh, boy! You guys are doing a poor job asking for a coffee donation. The wechat code is hidden at 0:47! I missed it completely while my attentions were focused on your contents. You are asking viewers to pause the video, pay attention to the 2D picture at the lower corner (when my eyeballs were on you) AND guess it as a wechat code in order to make the donation. That's is too much work for your viewers (you guys creates extra work for viewers like me). Come on, you can do a better job. Do it as easy as for a dummy like me. Anyway, thank you for great contents. I have watched every videos you have created.

😂如果您能够给每一个视频都加上中文字幕,我认为您一定会订阅数暴涨!
well, to be honest, I think there are only two governances, good and bad. People feel better than before, that’s mean it’s right for the whole country. Freedom is the one thing that we ask from the party, but not the only thing we ask.
yea good one. obviously ccp sponsored content
Delusional
What about the social credit score? They can't access the full internet. This is the death of some freedoms.
This guy must be blind or raving mad.
Thank you for your work. Wonderful details on the reality of China.
There used to be a lot of crime in Guangzhou, especially near train station, but now much safe.
Yes, I remember that, a lot of petty crime around the train station area, I was living in Guangzhou about 8 yaers ago, however the area get cleaned up a lot..

Thank you , love your video! I can’t agree more with you as I am a Chinese Hongkonger who live in HK. China now is very free and manage well for their resistant.
Good points. Support from Shenzhen.
I am surprised that as a Brit you didn’t mention that disastrous vote that David Cameron introduced on Brixit and its repercussions on British democracy
Papyrus Okagbue Brixit doesn’t impact muslim immigrants- its polish people who took most jobs
Thanks for letting more Western people know the truth about the real China!
You guys are the hero and peace maker in the era. Culture ambassador
So true! Every year more than 100 million Chinese travelling overseas...... China is the one of most freedom and safest countries in the world.
I am Chinese, China is very free, I love China very much.
So much truth being spoken here
Thank you guys!
my mates are christian and fine in guangzhou. go to church every week
You mean they go to a state sponsored church, because if the church isnt sponsered by the ccp it will mysteriously be demolished
"The Chinese people aren't free, they're oppressed"- SerpentZA
I think people should not comment when they haven’t lived in any other country, and haven’t experienced other governments and cultures.
We are free to eat in resterant often, travel to the place we like, walk on the street in the night. Happy life.
Walter Duranty would be so proud...
one of the most realistic video about China I've ever seen on youtube:D
keep going back to my hometown Xiamen, visiting other cities in China, I find peoples are happy, free and developments are in high pace!
Thank you for your voice
I am Chinese and I love my motherland. If there is an afterlife, I will still be a Chinese.
