Im a Gregghead till death, but i think I'm going to see Fantastic Four at the cinema instead of Ant-Man. Six bags of popcorn vs. One unsalted bag? You don't have to do the math to see which one you should see guys
One of the funniest episodes of On Cinema. "It's a sad, lonely bag with no salt, no butter, many unpopped corn at the bottom of the bag, stale and hardly able to eat. It is a horrible, horrible movie." The swing and miss animation was hilarious too.
It is so amazing how they both appeared in actual movies and tied that into On Cinema. The commitment of this show is what makes it so great -- any decision they make, they go all the way with it. 8 bags of popcorn, 8 bags of soda
Right yeah I shoulda specified that's my TOTAL score for F4 and AM combined. So Ant Man gets 7 bags of popcorn, 7 bags of soda. F4 gets 1 bags of popcorn, 1 bags of soda
What’s even better is how Tim has appeared in movies and specifically not tied them to On Cinema. He was in Us during season…..9 I think? And they said maybe they’d tie it in somehow if he ended up actually going to the Oscar’s but they didn’t and he was too good in that movie so it doesn’t exist in the On Cinema Universe. And I love that because it really would ruin the immersion of this arms race between two bad actors.
I never imagined the new season would be this good right out of the gate. That slow-mo clip of Tim's scene during the Fantastic Four part fucking killed me
Oh my God. I have never felt compelled to comment on a video but I'm binging this series for the first time and I can't even handle this episode. It's too much. 6 seasons of nothing but glowing reviews for even the biggest piles of trash, and when Tim says "This was a miss" with that animation, I fell on the floor. Unbelievably perfect. I'm going to be so pissed when I finish this show.
The good news is you can just rewatch the series over and over... it's very comfy background noise and the humor is extremely layered so you often notice new things. Like for example Gregg saying "the beginning's a little slow", I didn't know until I caught a bit of the movie at the gym, but the first scene is the only scene Tim is in, so he's throwing shade at Tim there. Love it.
I used to think Ant-Man was a five bagger and my favorite movie of the summer, but Tim's insight on the film has really opened my mind to the truth. I'll never watch that trash again!
Not being ironic for a moment here so bear with me: this might be the best episode of On Cinema. The way Tim trashes Ant-Man after giving even the most awful movies 5 bags is just perfect. Made even better by the fact that Ant-Man is, without a doubt, far better than Fantastic Four. This just captures the humor of the show perfectly.
The show mostly exists in its own alternate universe and isn't really concerned with actual commentary on movies, but I have to think leaving Mad Max: Fury Road off the list of "Summer Movies that deserve 5 bags" is an actual deliberate joke, like they ignore what everyone regarded as the best movie of the summer because they're that lousy.
Agreed. To the non movie buff eyes this show seems amateur. But this show has ramped up the humour so intricately throughout the seasons. I'm just in love with this show, the lore is on a similar level (perhaps even better) with a shitload of sci-fi/drama shows out there.
Tim called an audible when Gregg recused himself. Knowing Gregg wouldn’t go back on his word to keep his review to himself, Tim raked it over the coals hard and blasted the ashes in Greggs eyes and laughed on the inside. Incredible.
Just because Gregg starred in Ant-Man he expected Tim to give it 5 bags, but Tim has integrity and didn't let that affect his rating. 1 bag was harsh, but it was honest.
I love how Gregg just strings Tim along, yea telling him everything he wants to hear, great summer movie blah blah blah, then boom drops the truth bomb! Tim PAID to be in Fantastic Four (Lines)! The truth is out TIM! Honesty is the best policy.
Gregg should have done the decent thing and recused himself from reviewing Fantastic Four because, as a friend of Tim Heidecker who acted in the movie he clearly is too close to the production. One could theoretically say the same about Tim but in fact his review was accurate: it was a straight 6-bagger and it's great to get an insight from someone so closely involved with the craft of the movie. Great review from Tim and Fantastic Four joins that elite pantheon of films to receive 6 bags of On Cinema popcorn: the highest possible rating reserved only for instant classics.
At 4:57 Tim uses the word "affair". He has chosen this word very carefully, as a nod to "The Affairs of Cappy Ricks", a bit of foreshadowing to future seasons.
Tim planned for Gregg to bring his video tape collection to Hawaii just so he could burn them, thereby making more room in the apartment, and pass it off as being used for the plot of Decker. He's the "fan" who tipped Gregg off about the video shop getting rid of their VHS tapes. Now Gregg has somewhere to go (a storage unit) while Tim and his family have annexed his apartment. It is both a disgusting and brilliant plan.
This is by far my favorite argument they've had in the series. It just felt real and natural and like an actual argument that they might have. Kinda redundant at my last line, but it was kind of repetitive.
Now that On Cinema is back my life can begin again. The dark clouds of depression and confusion over which movie to watch are over once again; On Cinema is back!
+NostalgiaVHS Have you downloaded the On Cinema app to your personal device? Firm but fair reviews all year round and quality assured with the On Cinema name. Since my purchase I've secured a 6-bagger almost every night.
"i thought this movie was a miss" LOL!!! holy shit, I just spit-sprayed my dinner salad everywhere with laughter! and Tim saying that with his new ridiculous beard look was too much to handle at once! I am so glad you guys are back at it again
What's crazy is 7 years later. Warner Brothers came out and said "Bat girl was so bad it couldn't be seen and will be locked in a vault never to be seen"
I am glad that the buffs are back, but...same as it ever was. Tim has absolutely NO ethics. He's seen as a dishonest film critic by reviewing a film he PAID to be in. He's also already breaking rules agreed upon by him and Gregg. He needs to shut up about his boring life and he absolutely CANNOT give six bags of popcorn to any movie, especially one he PAID to be in. Gregg, on the other hand, continues to be a bastion of film criticism and movie expertise. I really wish we had Our Cinema instead of On Cinema. It's what us true movie fans need and deserve right now.
Bullshit Tim never paid a dime he auditioned like everyone else and and obviously got it, ffs he has #DECKER on his resume the guy knows how to act. I bet gregg paid for that pile of crap ant-man and is just inflicting his own problems on Tim.
+Toastbye _ You need to wake up and smell the roses! Tim is feeding you more bullshit and you are just taking it as face value. He's always been a liar and a cheat. He's never going to change.
It's such a weird coincidence that Gregg caused a re-write by revealing the ending of Decker in his On Cinema on Location segment and that re-write just so happened to involve burning his entire video collection. It's as if the universe or some unknown force was punishing him.
my fav bit of this is tim continuing to drill down and make it crystal clear why he didn't like Ant-man, when it was already obviously implied from the start of his review. such a great "overexplaining the joke" moment
While I do agree with Tim's fair criticism of the Ant Man movie, I do feel that he was a bit a harsh in rating it one stale popcorn. In my humble opinion, Ant Man deserves at least a little bit if sprinkle of salt, just a tinge of flavor, as it does have some redeeming qualities.
You gotta love the respect that Tim has for the great Josh Trank. Reminds me of the relationship between Spock and Kirk, or now with Tim's hunky beard, Riker and Picard.
That's so right of you to say that about Josh Trank. When Tim gave his shout out to Josh, most of us were flat out mesmerized. Frozen in place. Couldn't move for a little while due to the profound love and magical moment that Tim made possible with that authentic non-scripted tip of the hat to John Trunk. A lot of us were reminded of Will Ferrill's character in Old School. It was like we'd shot ourselves in the neck with a Trankulizer dart at our some kid's backyard swimming pool birthday party.
The both of them finally not having enough time to watch any movies and just giving a blanket 5 buckets to every summer movie that came out is one of the greatest payoffs in comedy history.
Thank you Tim for saving the Ant Man saga with your performance in Ant Man 2. As we all know Ant Man 1 was utter garbage and lacked all theatric integrity. This is one of those rare instances where the sequel far surpasses the original film. #oscarbuzz

That intro made me feel like big winner. Money boy
I love how Tim didn't quite get all of his beard darkened with just for men. Hahaha
I have a feeling Tim and Greg lobbies to be in those movies just for this show...
Why in the heck, how in the heck are there no comments!? So glad you're back On Cinema. The family reunited... All the pieces are set for this amazing season of internet television. I give this episode five bags of popcorn, especially for Tim's takedown of Ant Man. He's an Ant Man, sure, but a strong one, so I commend him for taking him down. That is the strength of Decker. A good man.
I love that Tim was in the second Ant Man.
The birth of the VFA, legendary episode right here.
One of those too good to be true, happy endings ... Which i am happy to be a part of 😂
7:41 for Tim's 2 minute, 7 second diatribe on Ant-Man.
this show is a great cure for happiness
The first mention of Victorville 🥲
