I just tried the Kiwano today, and in trying to search for tips on growing it from the seed, stumbled across your video. This is one of the best videos I've seen on TH-cam, so informative, your decor and home is so wonderfully rustic, and it really touches the heart. Love the message about how we are all one human race and race is more sociological than genetic.

And there are much more to be analysed, considering DNA. The portuguese and spanish people themselves also have a porcentage of North African DNA, even before the slavery period, due to moorish invasion in Iberic Peninsula that lasted from 711 ad to 1492 ad (omiad caliphate and Al-Andalus). That period is much longer than the colonization of the americas. In the end, we are all brothers and sisters.

I was so moved by this video which is not only visually stunning but extremely thought provoking and poignant. You are such an amazing artist, teacher and storyteller.
I was born in Guyana, and this really got to me because of our country’s proximity to Brazil. There were whispers of Portuguese heritage in our family, but it was not something that was openly talked about. My grandfather looked like a Portuguese man, while his brothers and sisters did not. There were rumors of my great grandmother’s affair with a prominent Portuguese businessman. Yet my grandfather never acknowledged these whispers and did not claim to be anything other than black. This story has taken me down an emotional rabbit hole has made me want to learn more about my mother’s roots. Thanks Siloe, as usual your videos are so much more than just how-to’s.

@@suburbanhomestead i know you are busy & if i remember correctly, you said in a previous video you have a full time day job aside from this channel so I don't want to add more to your plate......but... i was wondering if you would consider doing a "quick" video on, tips for planning out your gardening season (even a top 3)? I am new to gardening & last year i feel like i didn't get much out of my yard/gardens because i didn't have a game plan & didn't really think about the time things need to grow & plant accordingly. Anyone can tell from your videos they cannot be 'quick' to put together as you put so much thought, care & attention into them...however would you consider just a sit down & talk to the camera about this topic? I am an avid amateur gardener always trying new heirlooms and trying to grow as many interesting plants as possible. Though I don't have much optimism for it this year, my super exotic I want to grow is Naranjilla, from the Andes. Even if I don't get to pick anything, just the growing experience is fun and may help me better prepare for the next year. Siloé you did it again! This was such a great video and your transparency was admirable. Also I find it very interesting that you attempted to grow this fruit in particular, because I just recently tried it myself. It taste great mixed with greek plain yogurt and honey. If you ever get a chance to try it, let me know what you think.

    Dear Siloé Oliveira,
I feel an immense blessing and privilege that I stumbled upon your wondrously awe-inspiring channel that brings much hope and great lessons on life in the cosmic web of gardening right at the footsteps at home. At the very end, home is earth and the only planet that we know of in the closest proximity that harbors life and it is our inherit duty to take care of the natural world and find harmony within to fill the outer with fabulous fragrances of flowers that later bear delicious, exquisite fruits. Gratitude for your magnificent being of light and of unconditional love. May the force of the divine love be with you and those dear to your heart always.

I'm watching this video for the 2nd time and must give you Kudos for tying in the history of the slave trade in Brazil with the seed education of the African melon. You must be a professor. You do an amazing job educating people and you're using your platform wisely. Thank you my brother.

This was one of your best videos Siloe. I loved the blend of history and culture with the documentation of your efforts to grow an exotic fruit. We grew African Horned Melons for the first time ever this year too. Like yours, ours were planted rather late and were slow starting. They came on strong late in the season and we did get about a dozen fruit. The delicate, but delicious flavor is much like what you describe in your video. I could see this fruit as a pallette cleanser at high end restaurants. It is extremely refreshing and reminds me of the flavor of kiwi. We will absolutely grow them again this year. I hope you give them another try as they are worth the effort (and they just look so cool, as a bonus). I would be happy to mail you some seeds that we saved if you would like. It is the least we could do given your hard work creating this video.

WOW Siloé. When I saw the dish you chose for your seeds it just touched me to see the reverence for what you were doing. I stayed teary eyed the rest of the video as I watched in awe of your ability to pack so much truth and gardening wisdom in a beautiful box of passionate artistry. Well done My Friend, well done. Watching again.

Hey there...long time....beautiful video... M in UAE n m growing this....mine has started fruiting....but the vine was withered not long ago n I though its a lost cause. We have mild winters and so the vine didn't do well earlier...but suddenly I saw it growing last week and found two fruits with male flowers yesterday. Temperature might have played a big role here. But the vine is relatively little. First I thought I should pluck the fruits as the vine is still young, but then I decided to leave it alone. Will share what happens and if I get to save seeds...will be overjoyed to share! them with you.

This just popped up on my ‘suggestions’ and I’m so glad I’ve taken the time to watch, beautiful orator/ story teller you are. Love your home, decor and garden. I’m from the Caribbean and and so this was part of our education as well. Racism and colourism in Latin America will always remain as it’s engrained and religiously passed down. New subbi here.

What a fantastic video! As a fellow light-skinned philosophy minded Brazilian-American, I always find special interest in your point-of-view. You truly did justice to a complex racial and social issue. It is amazing how you took a "failed experiment" to grow the African melon and turned it into a mini-doc worth watching. Your 100+ hours of effort have not gone unnoticed. Thank you for sharing your view of the world through your unique video style.
