Finally, TH-cam added you to my suggested videos - and I’m so GLAD it did! Your videos are magical! I LOVE how you show so much of a plant’s transformation in a single video. Amazing.... your videos are so clearly thought out, and thorough... I look forward to watching more of your uploads.
This channel reminds me of the PBS shows I used to watch with my grandparents. And I mean that in the absolute best way possible. Thanks for continuing and I can’t wait for the next one. I’ve got garlic, beets, radishes, and carrots in my first hugelkultur bed so it is good to see I’m not the only one trying these pairings together.
You make so many people profoundly happy mr. Siloe. Thank you for the meticulous attention to detail you put into your cinematography, and your original music, so lovely. Not to mention the gardening tips.
@@suburbanhomestead Oh, I love seeing you in your suspenders. I have a hard time with antiques, but you fit perfectly in that house. I wish I could garden dressed like you, but not here in Costa Rica... I love everything about your videos. You deserve 100x as many viewers. The only thing is that I have to watch them at twice the speed.
Is that you singing, Siloe? You are adorably multitalented! I'm a fan of all that you do, your videos, your advise and how eloquent you are in explaining things!
Summer may have finished on the calendar bit it seems the heat hasn't run out here! I hope your autumn garden is glorious! I'm waiting (impatiently) for the heat to break to sow brassicas!
I’ve been debating trying beets again and I’m taking this as my sign to go for it! Another great video. I just love when you cook the unique crops from your garden. Thank you!! 🙏🏾
Thank you, Siloe!I'm going to plant them starting tomorrow, I will be succession planting, I got a ton in a seed exchange so I am excited! So happy to see another gorgeous informative video from you , Thank you! Please no 8 month breaks ever again! The gardening community needs you! 💗🦋👍

Thank you very much LaDonna for your support! Thanks for going out of your way to help me produce new videos. I believe you see the value in quality videos.
I just LOVED your channel, coming from a photography background (professional) and JUST getting my feet wet in video making (recreational), I am grateful for both, your teachings and the quality that you present this info, while I watch the video, I can't stop to wonder about where your camera (s) is placed, maybe you went back later and shot some broll.. Do you stop and move cameras around... etc etc... I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your channel for many reasons :)
I recently discovered your channel and I am highly impressed by the educational value of your videos as well as the effort you put into your creations. Your editing is on point and your singing was a very nice addition to this particular video. Keep up the great work! Greetings from Vienna, Austria. PS You have a pronounced sense of fashion

Your videos are some of the absolute finest quality that can be found on youtube. You continue to be one of my all time favorite channels! Quite frankly I'm surprised you don't have your own TV channel with your level of skill and dedication. And by the way, do you have any plans for a paw paw tree in the shady part your yard?
Idyllic. Thanks for sharing your garden adventures and your specially composed songs with us. I was going to plant sugar snap peas outside today but the soil has the top two inches frozen in our raised beds. We need some window frames. 🌱🙂
Loved the transformation part of the garden ♥ ,and the journey of the beets from seed to harvest , It was such an experience !! I never seen Salsify before so i got to learn something new , thank you as always for another informative and beautiful video :)
That is a wonderful suggestion. It would be lovely to see a garden to table book with so many of the vegetables we grow here. I tried growing large pale green summer squash after watching your video/ sandwich. The seeds said superior flavor and texture but wow! What an understatement! Exquisite! And the plants survived or record-breaking 47+°c / 117+F day too! So thank you for encouraging me to try something new, utterly delicious and so unexpectedly robust in our sometimes extremely hot climate!
I love your radish leave dish from one of your videos last year, I'd never had thought of using them like that. It's become a firm favourite in our house. Lovely video once again.
Steph Krunic And when that someday comes up, I can imagine the book : The Suburban Homestead Garden table cookbook.. I can definitely imagine this. Yet Mr. Siloe Oliveira is right, take this slow
This will be my second season for growing. Last year my beets competed with tough soil. I did a lot of on the spot compost to over winter. Hopefully I'll get nice round instead of long skinny and little.lol. I love all the videos. Did you change a lot in your garden. I see more defined spaces and not so much rural area. It looks very nice.
There has been changes, but more changes will be shown in future videos :-) Also I think your on the spot composting will help make your soil better. Sometimes I forget that I've been working my soil for about 10 years and that it is not so common for people to have soil with good structure.
Thanks for sharing the tip on salsify shoots. (And identifying the "flowering weed" growing beside the driveway! Haha I knew I put those seeds somewhere!) We are pleased to hear you have started work on the book. The boys and I look forward to seeing it!
I love your utilitarian approach to gardening. Versatile, natural, and pragmatic. Highly refreshing and reminds me of how my grandmother and mother gardened.
This video made me remember how I found your channel a while ago when you made a video about salsify. I have not grown them yet, but I can't wait to do so. As always, great job on the video art and quality 👍 Keep up the good work. God bless you. 🤗
Thanks for another great video. I didn't know that you could eat the shoots and flowers of salsify. I'll be trying it when mine start to bud. I love asparagus so it will be a treat for me after the asparagus quits producing for the year. Much Love
Oh, I thought those teepee structures were ornamental trellises, I didn't see the mesh at the bottom. How clever! I just may try that myself this year. I have a groundhog who eats everything except chard for some reason! The critter completely defoliate my beans and peppers last year.
Have you ever grown hostas? They are a great shade vegetable with a texture and taste similar to scallions once cooked. Gonna need to start some salsify this year, that looked so good!
Thanks for the beautiful video. It's just started snowing but my asparagus seeds are coming up under my indoor lights. Like it or not, I've got to create a cold frame or low tunnel because there's no way I have room for them inside in a month or so. This is a taste of the season to come!
I don't have groundhogs, but the birds just really love beet seedlings! So, I do like Charles Dowding, and transplant seedlings. They grow well for awhile if I can keep the birds off, but I still have not had any great beets,.I have been trying all year! I have the same issue with carrots, I think it's my heavy clay soil.
Hey, when did you get the hori hori knife? I got one for Christmas and I'm so excited to use it but it started snowing again last night and now we're almost a foot deep in powdery, cold snow. I can't wait for spring to come.
Are you growing radishes?.....third year i am trying doing that, but getting only leaves....if the other your watchers have the same problem it will be so nice if you say little bit about growing them. Thank you for great gob you are doing.
I find that it works, but you need to put your slower and lower plants on the outside, and depending on where you live will help you decide which side of the bed to put them on. Where I live I would put the beets on the outside, and my beds run north - south, so the beets would go on the west side. If it is very hot where you live, you may want them on the east side, since the heat will slow the growth of some veg.
The beets that bolted...can you keep them to produce seeds so you don't have to buy seed packets every time you want to plant? Can you do a video on collecting seeds and allowing some plants to go to seed?
:) these are similar sentiments to mine.... even after seeing the previous 2 videos this year.... each new offering is lovely, greeted with delight and deeply appreciated.

Leave a couple of radishes that go to seed the seed pods delicious to snack on while in the garden. I collect them when they are young and serve them as snack with beer or wine. They are a little spicy and crunchy with a rust of flavor.

Yes, they tolerate light frost, but I deep freezes may not be good for them. A cold frame becomes a perfect environment for them.
