    This is the most valuable house I´ve ever seen. And there is almost nothing to steal from it. That makes it pure art for me. The multi-million-mansions in Hollywood and LA can`t keep up with this. It´s simply beautiful!

    I’m in awe at this house. Just a beautiful, functional work of art and engineering.

    Very nice house. But I was shocked about your comments about the kitchen, the lamp and the “reason” why taking shoes off. For me this sounded disrespectful. Japan has a bath-culture of thousands of years, in times where in Europe nobody washed themselves and the US didn’t exist yet....And yes there are hygienic reasons not to wear shoes inside the the house. Very interesting to be able to view a traditional house.

      When we visit many temples, monasteries, mosques and many Spiritual sanctuaries, homes in oriental/Asia countries..... Everyone takes off shoes before entering. Yes, no wearing outdoor shoes once INSIDE...

      Everybody washed themselves everywhere, when it was possible. Ever heard of Roman bath-houses. The shoe thing is just peculiar and more specific for Japan. It is done elsewhere too but less strict. Temples in Europe were build as being outside (used/open 24/7 for living originally) so shoes are alowed. It's also more a spiritual thing to wash hand and feet before entering temples in most non christian beliefs. Apart from this it can be viewed as somewhat practical historically, as in keeping dust and dirt out. But there are other solutiions for that used everywhere else, making the strict Japanese part just "tradition", nothing more.

    The property and the houses are beautiful, but damn I seriously wish he knew more about it. I wanted to know more about the functions of the rooms, the history of the family or entity that owned it, who built it, the architectural designs, who that man is in the giant portrait, the meaning behind some of the decorations. Dude's just fumbling through the property making guesses about what's what.

    I’m inspired by your actions and initiatives to conserve the traditional houses. I’ve always wined about how Japan for better and worse lost the old fashioned traditional housings and technologies, but seeing you taking actions is very inspiring and I’ll do something myself to help conserve them!

      The beauty of this house in its simplicity and materials is incredible. On an historical point of view, it would be a shame not to conserve it.

    Admire your efforts for conservation and ecology. Joetsu is a great area to ride around, and in summer I've met Japanese and foreign cycle tourists in Joetsu. The 日本海 (Nihonkai, Sea of Japan) coast of Japan has a special feeling and energy, ranging from blizzard storms with purple lightning and thunder that howl across from Siberia to long, fine, sparkling summer days.Russia, South Korea, North Korea and China are not far across the sea, and things from those countries frequently wash up along the beaches of Joetsu.

    I have never seen a westerner wearing a pair of geta, which you seem quite familiar with and comfortable in. The original owner of the house must have been extraordinarily wealthy man with exceptional taste. You may wish to present this gorgeous mansion as 豪邸 rather than 高級お屋敷.

  • @Voltaire8559
    @Voltaire8559 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The butsudan in this house is truly something else. But understandable that this is a very rich persons house, the attention to housing the spirit tablets and pictures of the family would have been immense, so to minimize that would be very disrespectful.
    The reason why everything is gold is because it correlates with the belief in the Pure Land and the light of wisdom of the Buddha in Golden rays.
    Thanks for the tour.

    • @danielwhyatt3278
      @danielwhyatt3278 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. Preserving the house but also really updating it to make it fit for 21st-century living. That will definitely be crucial going forward in order to attract actually Japanese people back to these old properties, even if they are outside of the cities. Let alone people immigrating from other countries. Thankfully, it does seem like some people are trying to do so. We just need the number to increase by the thousands.

    Ok let me say this.. the guest house looking that maculate! Its breathtaking! Honestly the Cuda (How closed captioning is spelling it) I'd love to have a simple home built like that. Each one of these homes has great appeal. So detailed and always a REASON to be made the way they are.

    I'm sorry but seen better Japanese house tours. Beautiful house restoration but Doesnt sound like this guy knows much about them. Was painful to listen to.
    'Big entrance for cars.. no.. before cars.Ricksaws drop off here.'
    Like it's unusual for a house in an era of horses not to have a tall portico. No garage? would that be a stable then 🤔
    It's lovely but it's only 100 years old, my home in the UK is over 180 years old😂
