@@SaeedReacts. They were friends / trent and her I think her reference was toward the person that he embodied at one time ; a drug addict . and not so much a diss TO him .
Yes! Love this. Matt Chamberlain's textures on the drums are incredible, and Tori is always just soooo good. The performance of "i i e e e" from this concert is my absolute favorite.
Thank you SO much for reacting to this performance! This made my month! I'm so stoked right now! The call-out during the improv is so specific and so savage. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! Somebody above mentioned listening to the album version, which I would recommend. Not necessarily to do a reaction, but to hear the difference. She uses the harpsicord in the original, which sounds super cool. In an interview during the recording, she said that when going through an encyclopedia she came across some semi-transparent pages showing the layers of the himan brain. She brought that to the sound technicians and told them she wanted it to sound like that, with lots of layers. I think they did a pretty good job! The album version is less guitar heavy, but a lot of things going on that merge beautifully. Thank you again for checking this one out, and I'm excited to continue seeing your journey! ❤
I have my own theory about Mister St John references. Everyone compares Tori to Kate Bush… Kate did “Wuthering Heights” (Emily Brontë novel). I think Tori is playing with “Jane Eyre” (Charlotte Brontë novel). St John Rivers is a big character in “Jane Eyre” - he basically offers himself as Jane’s savior, so godly. “Mister St John, just bring your son.”
Impeccable full band version. Still worth doing the 2 Meter Sessies version, which is just her singing and tapping out a rhythm. Intense vocal performance. 2 Meter Sessies was a Dutch programme and she did a whole session on 25th Jan 1996. Included "Horses/Fool on the Hill", "This Old Man/Putting the Damage On", "Apollo's Frock/Doughnut Song", "Muhammad My Friend" & "Caught a Lite Sneeze" to conclude. The whole thing is available on upscale on the snakedisorder channel. "Putting the Damage On" on that is amazing too.
Can’t wait for the next Tori reaction - I would die if you did a full album review of Boys for Pele - your insight into that record would be amazing to listen too
I recorded a reaction to a cover she did of Operator by Jim Croce, but its not uploaded yet. Definitely will check out more of her original work as well. Thanks so much!
another of her songs that references trent reznor (of nine inch nails) and their "supposed" relationship is blood roses (which is from the same album, boys for pele), where she refers to him as "the belle of new orleans" (he had a house in new orleans in the 90's), so i'm pretty sure the "belle" here is a reference to him again. you should check out this live version of "pretty good year" - it's amazing! th-cam.com/video/dJkzi6kCy0E/w-d-xo.html
This is just an incredible live version of this song! She was on fire in 1998, touring for the first time with a band.. Also check out the official music video of this fantastic song. th-cam.com/video/weWtRqoSUOI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=t8wjSlLEg2yPlGdX
I would highly recommend checking out her appearance on “VH-1 Storytellers.” The performances are top tier, and there are interesting backstories for many of the songs, including the strange dreams that inspired “Ieeee,” and how she tried to write a song for Al Stewart and it ended up being one of the big tracks on her first album. Full video here: th-cam.com/video/_8mTDoc9emo/w-d-xo.html
I would love love love for you to react to another performance from this show: The Waitress. It’s like 10 minutes long but is really powerful and shows how amazing her and the band were.
Something you might find interesting to watch. The time Tori was set to perform on a talk show but her gear didn't arrive. So she still performed Caught a Lite Sneeze...using a chair as accompaniment th-cam.com/video/3qhpNoV8ZUE/w-d-xo.html
Your face when she did the Hurt bridge ... 😂 ... she tore him a new one, deservedly imo if the rumors are true. Trent lived in New Orleans at the time, & she recorded there with George Porter, Jr. for BfP before they went to record in the church in Ireland. So, I think the belle & the boys in dresses comments were allusions to this song being about him, the city where they were seeing each other, & their almost-but-oops-not-really relationship. All Tori will say is that she was in a love triangle & the lite sneeze was a mediocre orgasm.
I was looking at the lyrics as well and thinking hmm whats happening 😅😄 loved that moment! Thanks for sharing some extra info. The lite sneeze is making more sense now 😄
@@SaeedReacts.also, I don’t remember if you mentioned this but earlier in the song she says “made my own Pretty Hate Machine” which is a reference to the NIN song.
Hi, like you reactions sooo much. I have a song for you. "Der Weg" Live 2003 Version from Herbert Grönemeyer. It is one of the most emotionally, sad and nonetheless beautiful song in german language. The translation in english of the video is very good! Herbert Grönemeyer write this song for his wife and his brother. They died in the same week, both of cancer. Herbert Grönemeyer makes music since the 1980th and do it till today. He is the most successful artist in germany.
Your insight into the song is right - after her 7 year relationship ended she had a brief affair with Trent Reznor and rumour has it that Courtney Love got in the middle of the relationship and it ended - so it was a brief light sneeze after all 😂sometimes I think it could also be a tongue in cheek if you catch my drift 😅
"You said, 'I hurt myself today'...oh god, you never did. You never COULD. You're full of shit." Hahaha. Too bad the Trent and Tori relationship didn't work out.
Are you deliberately avoiding reacting to her song "Icicle" because you are scared that you might not understand the lyrics, or because you are scared that you will understand the lyrics?
I'm sure he will get it lol. It doesn't take too much thinking to make the connection, and Saeed is obviously a sharp guy. I'm sure he has a crazy long list to get through! He's really checking out a little bit of everything, so I think he'll get to it eventually. She's got so many good songs that it will most likely take years to get through everything in reactions! Hopefully won't take a year to get to Icicle, but yeah. It's a long ride. 😊
How would i know if i dont even know the song or lyrics? I try to balance many artists on this channel which is impossible, but i try nonetheless. I must admit that comments like this, make me not want to check it out at all. And there is no malice in me saying this, its just how my brain reacts to it. So maybe now i will be deliberately avoiding it.
I don't really know her intentions with this one, other than the obvious references to Trent Reznor. I think of it as detailing a situation where the woman looses herself and her friendships in a relationship with a man, she spends all her time with him and his friends. The relationship was a cold that kept her down for a while but has since passed and she is better off now. I think 'A big loan from the girl zone' means she needs help from the friends she maybe has not talked to in a while, help to get back on her own two feet. That is totally my interpretation, take with a grain of salt 😁
The Tori Amos reactions and your breakdowns are amazing. Please keep them coming!
Thanks so much!
