I genuinely do not know where I'd be without this franchise, It's been a part of my life for almost half of it at this point. Thank you for making this, I can already tell this is a tribute that the series deserves.
I remember checking the FNAF subreddit frequently back in 2015. That page and the Roller Coasters and Daft Punk subreddits were my go-to sites during college (my grades may have suffered slightly). I actually wrote a paper comparing FNAF to Frankenstein and posted that on the Reddit page. Good memories!
Originally clicked on the video thinking it was going to be a timeline of events within the world of FNAF. However because this was so well done, and included so much I didn't know, naturally I had to watch through the entire video. I have major respect for how much time and effort you put into making this for the eighth anniversary. It looks amazing, great job!
And he didn’t even have a second game planned his original plan was it to be one-way horror that could be replayed it’s crazy he came up with a backstory too
It is impressive how quickly he put out a second game but it was 3 months in between games not just 1 month still a really short time but definitely longer than a month
I can’t believe it went from a struggling guy on his last chance to what it is now. Even if you don’t like FNAF there’s a good chance you’ve heard of it. It’s honestly insane

Conclusion of all of this? Scott was and still is one madman with a twisted sense of humor, a genius, and a man with a big heart for his creation and all his fans.
1:16:37 Hands down the best part of the video for me. Audibly laughed out loud because John’s facial expression was just too perfect for that teaser. Plus the visible eye-twitch made it look like at the moment he had tuned into what he was doing. Followed by an immediate and short analysis of what he tuned into was just too funny to me, man. Great video John, if you see this it really is a great video. Happy 8th Birthday FNAF.
not only have I seen the growth of the fnaf franchise but also this channel. I hope you know we are all super proud of you, john!! this brought back a lot of great memories, especially the videos you would make updating us on news of security breach in 2020/2021. I remember being so excited along with you and theorizing when the game would finally come out. thanks for always making me smile :)

I was 10 when I found FNAF in 2014 and never would I have thought that, at 18 years old, I’d still be here. Thank you John for making this video! Loved reliving all the moments from down the years.
aw, it was like you were raised with it! i remember first finding fnaf in 2016 (when rumors of sister location were around). as a giant fan of creepy stuff, robots, and animals… a videogame about creepy robot animals seemed like a miracle sent from heaven for my 8 year old self. i never played any of the games, (except for security breach which i enjoyed SO much despite it’s reputation) but i definitely lingered in the community since that year. i’m proud to say i was one of those kids who literally fangirled over foxy, made my own “fnaf show stage” out of a cardboard box, and i always loved roleplaying as the security guard on the playground with friends. im in highschool as of now, and i will always have a special place in my heart for the fnaf series. so yes! although i thought i finally grew out of the fandom, here i am ranting about it all over again :’)
@@gaysonorthotdaughta I was 6 when FNAF was released. Me and my cousin, who I grew up playing console games and a variety of video games with, went crazy. I watched a shit ton of gameplays, fell into the illimitable world of theories and lore enthusiasts, and even discovered the many fan music works. It did scare me a bit.. Since I was a little kid. I used to be afraid of my teddy bear that usually sat on the top shelf of my open closet. But honestly, that feeling was the most fun I had as a kid. Growing up around parents that weren't always around and not very many friends due to my differences from other kids (autism), it was a comforting thing to get into. I genuinely think FNAF is a special interest of mine, and has been since I was so little. I've played FNAF 1, FNAF 2, FNAF 3, a bit of FNAF 4, FNAF AR, Ultimate Custom Night, Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator but not SL, Help Wanted or Security Breach (though I've watched many MANY gameplays and pretty much know how to play them). I used to do FNAF RPs on Minecraft and ROBLOX too! I've been a nerd for the lore and the history for so long. Even with Scott not developing FNAF games anymore, he's still always to thank.
I was 21 when FNAF 1 came out and I was home from college at my parents house during summer break and I downloaded the game and tried it out. I remember being so scared I couldn't even play it past night 2 lmao. Here I am 8 years later still scared to finish FNAF 4, I hate jumpscares hahaha
This video gave me whiplash and intense nostalgia. To think I've been here since the very start from when I was 12-13 and *STILL* try to keep up with the games and its lore now that I am 20. It's amazing the amount of impact an initally desperate attempt to keep up with creating games had on our generation. Scott got what he wanted in the end as well as creating an entire new community and defining a new entity in the horror genre with video gaming. This journey has been amazing and I believe I'd still keep up even in the coming decade haha.
Games had on our generation . Scott got what he wanted in the end as well as creating an entire new community and defining a new entity in the horror genre with video gaming . This journey husband amazing and I believe I'd still keep up even in the coming decade hahw
Same. Fnaf was a huge part of my childhood. I remember reacting to every kind of content when they came out: the games, the teasers, the theories… it was great.
This was a really great video, and there was some stuff I didn't even know whatsoever (like the first ever gameplay video from Ben), but eitherway this was a really well put together video and the time, work, and effort put into this really shows! keep up the good work :)
never started bawling into a mess after an entire video before but it’s such a nostalgic ride once you realize you’ve been through it all, I remember being a kid watching these videos and now I’m an adult and still standing strong as a fan, this video was amazing and it was well made
I still remember the day Markiplier played this. I was 14 years old. I fell in love with the games almost immediately. I started to lose interest around the time sister location came out and moved onto other interests. I'm 23 now. I just got back into it before the movie comes out later this year. It's insane to see how much it's grown, to see how much more lore has been added. It's insane to me it's slowly getting close to being ten fucking years old.
Same I had just turned 14 when Markiplier uploaded his let’s play of FNAF 1. When I first saw FNAF it made me have trouble sleeping. That stuck with me and the lore sucked me into the series. I remember making fan art of the characters and talking about the games with friends in class.
My Girlfriend and I started watching some Markiplier videos to pass the time and we just finished watching his Security Breach videos. I'd only ever heard of FNAF before, but after watching that series, I was hooked. There was very clearly a lot more there than simply just an open world horror game and I loved that. I quickly found your channel after trying to understand what really happened in that game and now I'm finding this. Great video, this really sums up my suspicions in that this is all started as a small indy game that blew up and while the game play isn't exactly triple A, the story telling more than makes up for it. Knowing the history now makes the games that much richer.
For me, Security Breach was the major pull into the franchise as well as inspiration for me. I will never forget how motivated it made me to make "Astray" and turn it into a trilogy, seeing how insanely well received it was, it just blew me away. So excited for the future of the franchise and looking forward to be inspired again and again. Wonderful coverage, it is surreal to see how far it came! Happy Anniversary FNAF!❤🎂
I think that it's incredibly wholesome that despite Scott having a history with trolling, people still believe that he genuinely got hacked. Truly, the fnaf community loves him dearly.
I wish a lot of them still respected him, he was forced out of fnaf by so called fans because he voted for what he believed and that made my heart wrench
@@ShuTheIdiot Thats a gross misrepresentation of what happened and you know that. What happened was he did not just vote, he donated thousands of dollars to political figures that wanted to push anti LGBT legislation and FNAF has always had a huge LGBT fanbase. For what particular reason? I do not know, Sonic also has a huge LGBT fanbase though nothing in early sonic was overtly LGBT. And when he was called out about he still danced around whether or not he thought LGBT people deserved our rights with "he's a Christian" and blah blah blah. Personally I was not hurt because I stopped caring about FNAF very early on and certainly never cared abot Scott but people are perfectly valid in being upset by that. How dare people of a marginalized group be upset that they supported someone financially and literally built his empire only for him to turn around and use that money to directly harm them. Shame on them. 🙄
@@arminnurkovic836 refer to my comment right below yours. If you still want to support him that's you and your business but the fact that people act like ex-fan are just cancelling him or something is absolutely ludicrous.
I'm really happy to see that the community is still active after so many years. This franchise really changed me since 2014 and i really thank Scott, steel wool studios, illumix, the FNaF community and content creators to the beautiful games, books, songs, animations, fangames, theories and more that inspired me and many more people. I think that what Scott did will not be forgotten Happy 8th Anniversary Five Nights at Freddy's🎉
Even after so many years, the FNAF trailers still give me chills to this day, it's so fun looking back and remembering playing those games, all the scares, theories, and songs, what a crazy time it was.
This whole series in general is one big masterpiece. In my opinion, the games are incredible, but the main part of the franchise is the people behind it. You, matpat, dawko, razzbowski, markiplier, jacksepticeye, all of you are you just so awesome. All of you have made my life so much better. Just the whole fnaf franchise is so good. Well, mostly.
I used to have a FNAF phase since 2014 when the game came out and it's really wild. It's fascinating how the game went from animatronics jumping in front of your screen and scream, to a mystery plot about the Purple Man and his tragic history.
i can tell this took a astonishing amount of time to make. this was very informative, fun to watch, and overall interesting. the ending was beautiful and all of it really shows how amazing the community is. it’s the best fnaf video i’ve ever seen, you did an amazing job.
This video was such a joy to watch. And not only for FNAF but for you John! Seeing you and your channels growth has been so amazing! You’ve come from a small FNAF fan making theory and update videos to being a part of Matpats stream! I can’t wait to see how far you and the rest of this amazing community will go !!😁😁
Currently sobbing. This was so well made and really captured how we all felt with the teasers and trolls from Scott. It’s been wonderful being apart of this franchise, all the videos and theories.. It has been a wonderul ride with the fandom aswell, the fan games are also extremely amazing and i hope they keep coming like they’ve been doing these past years. Truly amazing❤️
This was such an amazing video dude! So proud of you for this! It brought back the memories I had watching Dawko, Razz, Bazz, and Ryan doing Theory Thursdays for the FNaF 4 teasers. I would even wait til Friday's to watch them with my Nephew. I think that's why I consider FNaF 4 being one of my favorites. It was because of them that I fell in love with the franchise. I love FNaF and this was such an amazing walk down memory lane. Thank you for making this video!
Great writeup. I haven't played a single FNAF game (not my kind of game), but I'm entranced by the lore and now I know essentially the whole story though other videos. This is a great supplement to all those by providing a little more historical context. If lore is the frosting, this is the cake. Good work.
Also it's so wild that people thought that Springtrap in the FNAF 3 teaser images was Golden Freddie. It doesn't look like a bear at all. It very clearly looks like a rabbit in the reversed/high contrast image. It really shows that people want to connect the dots with minimal information right away, without thinking that there's any possibility that it's new, and they really don't know what's coming next. It's just like when Marill showed up in media pre-GSC and fans came up with ways to evolve Pikachu into "Pikablu."
Also I don't know who is at 1:21:50, but he sucks. Also, Scott also sucks, having donated to the political campaigns of Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. He's potentially worse than the Harry Potter author.
I can tell how much incredible hard work went into this video. The amount of nostalgia I felt thinking amount of the digging and theorizing the community went through together is crazy. Thank you for this gem, John (and all the other creators involved!)
I remember discovering about it in 2014. I was an 8 years old kid watching all the youtubers, and downloading all the demos... Now I'm 16 and still sitting here watching it grow bigger and bigger... I always followed this game from the beginning and will always follow it. HUGE thanks to Scott and every youtuber out there working hard, following this franchise, and making us smile! Can't wait for the movie! I'll be frightened. And as always I see everybody in the latest news! Happy 8th anniversary everyone!
This was one of the most understandable FNAF history explanations I have ever seen. I feel like I actually can piece the story together instead of when I was horrified 8 years ago. Thank YOU!
This was a great way to visit all of fnaf without all the confusing lore. Oh I do love the lore but this really was a great history of everything else. I can’t imagine how long this took to write/edit/ and just to find the images and information. Especially info with dates. Absolutely awesome. Great job!!
love to see all the hard work put into this. i’ll admit i’m not really as big of a fan of this franchise as i once was back in 2014-16 but it still means so much to me. happy 8th anniversary fnaf!
I can't believe John has come from this small, faceless youtuber on my home page to a successful channel who caught the attention of such iconic and beloved creators. I'm proud of him.
In 8 more years when this video gets recommended to me again and others, I look forward to looking back and smiling at myself and you, John. Love this community, love this channel, and love fnaf.
seeing the lil intro honestly made me really happy. i was 8 or 9 when the first game came out and everyone was obsessed with the series. its insane that ill be an adult this year, still so obsessed with the story
I love being a part of this amazing fandom. I've been here since about 2015 and I could not be more grateful. I love this community and I hope to continue to watch it grow!
Dude, this was absolutely incredible! Thank you for taking the time to make such an amazing history timeline. You really did the franchise justice, and it was so cool to see everything put together through time!
Good stuff. My nephew and I discovered FNAF through DanTDM and we have been fans ever since. We both felt sad to hear that Scott will be stepping back. Scott and FNAF will always have a fond place in our hearts. We hope that Steelwool will be able to fill such big shoes. It’s cool to see new theorists taking interest in this franchise. Keep up the great work. Thanks for this video.
This was epic!!!! I wasn’t here at the start of FNAF and honestly if it wasn’t for breaking my leg 2 years ago, you John, markiplier and MatPat… I would have never got to share these experiences with all of you. I’m glad I’m apart of this fun community and this video was amazing! Great job!
FNAF and Markiplier literally saved my family. 2014 and early 2015 were hell for us. My dad had stage 4 cancer and was rapidly declining and passed in January of 2015. My family basically crumbled after that. My mom, sister, and I barely spoke to each other despite living in the same house. We just sort of existed in a fog of depression. My mom basically just worked and slept. I was in college and worked part time and threw myself completely into those without really doing anything else. Well, my sister happened to come across Mark's FNAF videos not long before the 3rd game came out and made me watch them with her. It was just enough to pull me out of my funk and start actually interacting with my family again. My sister and I got closer than we had literally ever been before and gradually we were able to start pulling my mom out of her haze as well.
The absolute nostalgia in that first minute. I had just graduated high school when fnaf came out, and now im pushing 30 and my little niece whom i have shared my love of fnaf with is 13. This was a nice walk down memory lane for me!
Honestly, just remembering all of these teasers and trailers (lore too i suppose lol) is incredibly nostalgic. I've enjoyed FNAF since I was 13, now I am an adult and I continue to adore FNAF. It never fails to disappoint. This was an awesome video which brought back some great memories. I truly hope that the future of FNAF will be even better.
Just finished watching and I literally had tears in my eyes in the end because this vid really puts into perspective how big of an impact the FNaF franchise has had on the internet. Thank you John❤️
This intro touched my heart, just thinking of all the fun times and memes and incredible lore and love put into this game from the creator and the community of fans, video creators, artists, everything, it’s just incredible to me an it touched my heart ❤️
U can already see how much hard work and effort that went into this and it was all worth it, It was absolutely a masterpiece and entertaining to watch, we are all proud of you man. I've been with community since 2014 and It was really great to look back at the 8 years history of FNAF.
ive just finished watching and i cant even begin to explain how much it already means to me. i grew up with this franchise, watching this made me feel like i was a child again; it helped me remember so many of the happy memories that came with fnaf: the theorizing, the trolling, the excitement and everything else. i also honestly dont think any other youtuber could not only explain the entire history of fnaf in such detail in only 1hr30mins, but also manage to explain how the experience of witnessing all that felt like, and how much emotion came with looking back on it all today. as sappy and cheesy as it may sound, from the bottom of inner child's heart, thank you Fuhnaff 💜 and congrats on this amazing vid!!
FNAF has been in my life since 2016 and I loved this series ever since. I can’t believe it’s been 8 years since it’s inception and I can’t wait for this series grow even more than it already is! Thank you FNAF, thank you for being in my childhood. ❤️
Well worth the wait and delay. This was really well thought out and I enjoyed every second of it. Keep up the amazing videos and I look forward to what FNAF has in store for us in the future!
It was nice to take a look back at the amazing history of this franchise from the point of other youtubers. This franchise still means alot to me, I clearly remember my little brother showing me the trailer of the first game way back in 2014, followed by Markiplier's playthrough and I thought it looked so cool and terrifying! 😨 I'm very excited for the future of this franchise and the fanbase. As always thank you John for putting so much energy into making these great videos, especially this one. 💙 Here's to another 8 years.
I love how objective this all is, it simply states what Scott put out there and everything beyond basic speculation is kept to a minimum, its nice to step back and simply look at things from a real standpointq
I think the coolest thing about FNAF will always be how involved the community is with the state of the games and the franchise in general. I dont think there has been another successful massive game franchise in history where the creator worked so closely with the community and actually responded to feedback in such a positive way. You'll never look at something like Halo or Pokemon and see a part of their franchise history revolving around youtubers.
I almost cried watching the end. I've been running with this franchise since I was 11 in Markiplier's first video on it. Now I'm 19 and engaged, it feels like Five Nights At Freddy's has been with me my entire life. I've had a very horrible life sadly, and I could never thank Scott enough for giving child me something to look forward to for so many many years. I don't know if Scott will ever see this message but I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the amazing story, games, and memories you have given all of us.
this video was so amazing, totally worth the wait! you can really tell how much love and work was put into this, and it was such a nice time reliving these big moments in the fandom, it really makes me remember just why i love this franchise so much
Sobbing and screaming. Such an emotional and wonderful game series. If this truly ends the FNAF series, I'm glad to be a part of the community forever. Thank you John, and most importantly thank you Scott
Inspiring video in my opinion for people who have had the thought of becoming game developers themselves. Makes people really see and realize how much work is put into an amazing franchise. As well as the follow-ups that lead up to every game's release. Scott executed game development perfectly.
This video has the exact passion for the games so many people have, myself included! Very well made and overall an amazing video!! its crazy to think about how much has happened within the span of 8 years, and more to come /pos
Man this entire summary of the last 8 years is really mind boggling to me. I remember being 12 when the first game dropped. watching CoryxKenshin flip out when he was playing it. Even today, it still feels like UCN released not too long ago despite being over 4 years ago. It's just so jarring to realize this game was around during all of my teenage years. Really brings back some memories seeing all of those teasers and hearing the bizarre theories of FNaF 3 of Golden Bonnie and "The Salvage". Great stuff, bro.
*A LITTLE MESSAGE;* I honestly cried while watching this, it was so emotional going through the years of the FNAF Community. I'm very happy that Scott Cawfon made this game and the franchise, I'm sure people are grateful of the games and the hard work that Scott and his team has made. As I'm saying this in 3 days is the 9th Anniversary of the first Five Nights At Freddy's game, hope you guys are as happy as I am for the FNAF Community. -The FNAF Fan (Me)
It always blows my mind to think that Scott was on the verge of giving up game development and has now shaped and built so many great memories for people to grow with over the 9 years it’s been a franchise. And just thinking about the fact it’s almost been a decade is absolute insanity, I remember watching matpats first game theory like it was yesterday.. just so many good memories man❤️
While I haven’t been a fan since 2014, I’ve been a fan since 2018! this game and the fandom has brightened my life so much, watching matpat videos and markiplier playthroughs. I can’t wait to finish this video, as I’m watching it while typing this. Here’s to 8 more years!
Five Nights At Freddys is just absolutely amazing. I’m looking forward to the future of the franchise! Thanks for spending so much time and effort on this video FuhNaff!
This is such a nice nostalgic video… when fnaf 3 came out. I remember sitting in my room. I saw markiplier’s play through video recommended and gasping so loudly. I proceeded to run to my brother’s room and been like “FNAF 3 CAME OUT!!”. He was like “that’s gatta be fake, it isn’t supposed to come out yet” we went and watch it together in my small mini iPad and everything- good innocent times man
I didn't think this video would be anywhere near as amazing as it was, i loved seeing everything that has happened over this 8 year long journey and all the memories that this video has brought back. I seriously hope that this game series can keep moving in the right direction rather than take the same path other games take. thank you for this amazing video and experience that i will be sure to rewatch years from now.
Best game that ever happened to me. I've loved it since the start. It's incredible to see how many games have been made, How much lore and theorising there has been. And how much of a community we've all created. This game was my childhood and my teenage years. I was 8 when it all started, and I'm turning 17 this month. It's crazy. I can't wait to see more games and books come out in the future.
This video auto played after watching your new SB theories and I had no idea it was as long as it is. You kept me interested the whole time I didn't even notice how much time was passing!
This is absolutely the best FNAF video I’ve seen in years after coming back to the community. I’ve been in the FNAF community for around 7 to 8 years. The memories I have about the FNAF community is watching Game Theory, Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, and especially Fusionzgamer. I’ve watched a lot of fnaf TH-camrs but I’m not gonna mention them all because I don’t want to fill this whole comment with TH-camrs I’ve watched. I remember being hyped for FNAF 6 and especially Sister Location. I don’t remember exactly what I was doing at that era but seeing this game evolve to one of the biggest horror games ever is crazy. I gladly thank Scott for making such an amazing horror franchise. Thank You Scott…
I got unbelievably emotional while watching this. I would not be here if this game didn't exist, due to my mental and physical health. Best franchise ever made, I cannot wait for what the future holds ❤❤❤
I love how this franchise is just full of love. The community to an indy horror game about dead kids and made this fandom out of it. I love this community.
This was an absolutely phenomenal video. I can’t imagine how much time you put into gathering the information and editing all the clips but I can promise you that it did not go unnoticed. I’ve been following the franchise since the first game came out and yet here I am still learning new things.
Thank you for taking the time and care to make this video. this honestly recovered my hate that I had for the community and the newer games. thank you, very well done

Even with Scott not developing FNAF games anymore, he's still always to thank.
dude I also found out abt it in 2014 and now Im 18 too. cool similarity.

Facts im glad i was along for the ride since i was 12 im now 20:)

Same. Fnaf was a huge part of my childhood. I remember reacting to every kind of content when they came out: the games, the teasers, the theories… it was great.
same! i’ve been here since i was 10 with fnaf 2 and now i’m 18! it’s crazy how time flies by !
This was a really great video, and there was some stuff I didn't even know whatsoever (like the first ever gameplay video from Ben), but eitherway this was a really well put together video and the time, work, and effort put into this really shows! keep up the good work :)
Yoooooo the creator of fnaf timeline!😲
never started bawling into a mess after an entire video before but it’s such a nostalgic ride once you realize you’ve been through it all, I remember being a kid watching these videos and now I’m an adult and still standing strong as a fan, this video was amazing and it was well made
I still remember the day Markiplier played this.
Same experience for me , I was 14 in highschool when I watched markipilers first video of it and I was hooked
So proud of you bud
OOH WHEE 90 MINUTES OF FNAF HOTNESS!

ZOO WEE MAMA ITS FNAF TIME
My Girlfriend and I started watching some Markiplier videos to pass the time and we just finished watching his Security Breach videos.
I LOVE this

For me, Security Breach was the major pull into the franchise as well as inspiration for me. I will never forget how motivated it made me to make "Astray" and turn it into a trilogy, seeing how insanely well received it was, it just blew me away. I think that it's incredibly wholesome that despite Scott having a history with trolling, people still believe that he genuinely got hacked. Truly, the fnaf community loves him dearly.
I wish a lot of them still respected him, he was forced out of fnaf by so called fans because he voted for what he believed and that made my heart wrench
lmao until politics got in the way at least
Wait what happened to him?
Can anyone explain pls. ^^

This franchise really changed me since 2014 and i really thank Scott, steel wool studios, illumix, the FNaF community and content creators to the beautiful games, books, songs, animations, fangames, theories and more that inspired me and many more people.

Happy 8th Anniversary Five Nights at Freddy's🎉
My sister and I got closer than we had literally ever been before and gradually we were able to start pulling my mom out of her haze as well.
so sweet
The absolute nostalgia in that first minute. I had just graduated high school when fnaf came out, and now im pushing 30 and my little niece whom i have shared my love of fnaf with is 13. This was a nice walk down memory lane for me!

This was an absolutely phenomenal video. I can’t imagine how much time you put into gathering the information and editing all the clips but I can promise you that it did not go unnoticed. I’ve been following the franchise since the first game came out and yet here I am still learning new things.
great video! i loved hearing about all of the theories that were floating around back then
Thank you for taking the time and care to make this video. this honestly recovered my hate that I had for the community and the newer games. thank you, very well done
IF WE CAN’T HAVE THE REAL FNAF MOVIE YET THEN THIS WILL DO!!!
