Charlie at his best. Great ride, beating master craftsmen Husbands and Hosang with a perfectly timed run. An impeccable judge of pace and a powerful rider in the stretch, we were blessed with amazing talent at Caymanas Park during this era. You can see Charlie lose his whip at the 1/16 pole and without missing a beat or becoming flustered, using horsemanship to save the day. Thank you Rohan for finding us this crackerjack of a race. Wonderful memories and a great call by Brian.
Great race, good horses, great riders, excellent commentary. Good post Rohan. One of best recently. Several stars here - Wells Fargo, Latin Tempo, He’s Tuned OK, Hussey, Hosang, Husbands and Brian Rickman.
Racing analyst of the day, Lindy Delapenha seemed a little surprised that Hussey'd come through. Why though??? All 3 of the top finishers - 1,2 and 3 - Hussey, HoSang and Husbands, boasted impeccable riding talents the world over. All 3 men were keenly intelligent riders. All 3, on whichever day, had screaming fans in their corner after differently ridden big race victories. All 3 were Hall of Fame worthy.

"Bogle man" hands up Hosang again in the Caribbean Sprint the following year when Heir To The Throne wore down Milligram to win in a driving finish. Andrew Nunes trained Heir To The Throne at the time!!! Hussey said, "Hard horse to ride, hard horse to ride," while being interviewed after the race because Heir To The Throne loved the rails and Hussey had no other option but to produce him on the outside that took some doing.
@@kevinwilliams3923 Matter of opinion. No doubt that Brian is smooth, consistent, modulates well and the master of similes. Chris was forceful, descriptive, exciting and would give you the best post-race recap and analysis. Two great commentators. I am a fan of both. You can rate one person higher than another without putting that person down.
Agree with you...Brian is world class....he is very descriptive and exciting....you feel like you are seeing the race just to hear is commentary on the radio
Hey Rohan. Thank you. Man can you drop a Harlequin , Sheer Joy , Legal Light, Arizona and General Q race . For the racing aficionados who enjoy what you are providing …
Here are some FUN FACTS for you all - Also in 1994 - Red Stripe Sprint (Invitational - Grade 1 Stakes) Eros (ridden by Winston "Fanna" Griffiths, OD) gave the notorious speedball, Pablo Cruise (George HoSang, OD), 1.5 kilos and beat him by 2 lengths. Red Stripe Superstakes Restless Babe (Andrew "Narry Cartoon" Ramgeet) gave Latin Tempo (George HoSang, OD) 1kilo (55.0 to 54.0), and beat him in a head-bob at the wire. Latin Tempo was closest the rails and was mesmerized with the whip by the big jock'. All three jockeys - HoSang, Griffiths and Ramgeet are TRUE TITANS of the sport. No doubts.
Wells Fargo good horse won the derby as well with Bogle man,he's tune ok and Latin tempo were consistent during tht season,he's tune ok won the st Leger,I was in high sch then but remember these races.
Big horse Wells Fargo it just ah pity him get hurt & injury injury derailed him career because there is no doubt him would have been ah better older horse him was a very good horse at that time him was the best 3 year old because if you watch back the 2ooo Guinness him.miss the break bad with A.Ramgeet & finish up strong that was the second time C.hussey was riding & winning & Wells Fargo good horse Wells Fargo
Lemme shadow a specific animal here - HE'S TUNED OK (Simon Husbands). For the most part, this animal was rather sluggish and thus, best known as a come from very far behind type (run on). However, this once, was roused by top foreign jockey Simon Husbands to be up on the front end and showed unbelieveable speed that matched Latin Rhythmn's for a long way before the great George HoSang shook loose. Jockeyship and experience are the perfect bond in big-money races. Hands down.
If Hosang had won that race with Latin Tempo....I am sure many people would say jockeyship did it!!.....Wells Fargo was no doubt a better stayer.....and that made the difference.....Hussey gave a good ride though!!
@@wayneanthony1089 Well said. Latin Tempo - beg your pardon - not, Latin Rhythm. Brilliantly, brilliantly ridden by Charles Hussey, OD to come up trumps. A gem of a ride 'twas.
Thank you again man, brings back SOOOOOOO many memories, do you have milford sound in the oaks or St.Ledger ? Thank you again great memories.....WELLS FARGO
If my memory serves me correctly, HE'S TUNED OK was trained by claiming king trainer - Robert Darby, Sr. who'd done a superb job with these types of animals - slow moving; sick; partially sick; labeled "REFUSE" and about to be dumped types. He, Mr. Darby, knew VERY WELL how to train these animals back to good graces and winning big races. We pray Mr. Darby's eternal peace at his transition.
A good ride from Hussey....but Wells Fargo was a much superior stayer to get those two horses.....both of them were tired after that fierce duel by the time Wells Fargo arrived....A great ride from Hussey because Wells Fargo was a horse that had to be ridden for the entire race.....he won the Derby as well with a similar move
