Perfect season! To put things in perspective only 4 horses has done it in a full schedule against first class competition, the Triple Crown has been done 13 times.
@@gutzzgutzz6795 there is literally an abundance of compilations for Tom’s best and all time calls, most including this classic with Cigar, and 2 back to back memorable classic calls with Tiznow, and one I’ll remember forever, “STREET SENSE IN DEEP WATERS!”, truly gave way to what an amazing victory it was for Curlin, which Trevor had a good call for him in the classic I admit, but the list goes on and on for Tom, no disrespect to Trevor but Tom is truly the best . This race is crazy because not only is cigar a GORILLA , but also the last son of Secretariat is in this race "Tinners Way" he got 7th but came back after this race & won a grade 1 @hollywood park "Californian Stakes" 1996. Which would be his last win of his career. Wow 90s was a fun era for horse racing
"It was very meaningful. It was probably his biggest win, because it meant a perfect season, 10-for-10, and Horse of the Year. It was probably more important even than Dubai. Dubai was important. Don´t get me wrong. But there´s something about a perfect season" Bill Mott (July 29, 1953 - )
I actually saw him lose 2x in person! Once, in a Del Mar Allowance race on the turf, another time 2 years later, going for 16 in a row before still the largest crowd in Del Mar history! Going down in defeat to Dare and go

Cigar... But there is one best place to bury your horse. One place that is best of all. If you bury him in this spot, the secret of which you must already have, he will come to you when you call -- come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down the well-remembered path, and to your side again. And though you call a dozen living horses to your side they shall not whinny at him, nor resent his coming, for he is yours and he belongs there. People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall, who hear no neigh pitched too fine for mere audition, people who may never really have had a horse. Smile at them then, for you shall know something that is hidden from them, and which is well worth knowing. The one best place to bury a Horse is in the heart of its master.
Such a shame that the BC media people are just going through the motions, failing to see the need to POST THE ENTIRE CLASSIC RACE CARD below "Cigar wins the 1995 Breeders' Cup Classic at Belmont Park." That is, list the names and numbers of the horses, and the jockeys on them, in the race. Post the EXACT and FULL date of the race. Post the ORDER OF FINISH, with the purse monies won. It's a miracle they can remember how to get to work in the morning (find their office, that is. What they don't do when they do get there is obvious). Seriously, these people sincerely wonder why they've lost - at least - 50% of their clients and the racing public since 1990, and why racing is now a dump. ***** R.I.P. Cigar. Too bad your standards were mysterious to the people mentioned above. It never was to your fans, not for a minute.
Cigar was amazing!!
I miss Tom Durkin's race calls every summer when I visit the spaaaaa!!!!

Durkin was the best in his time, and maybe the greatest ever.
Tom Durkin could really get you off your seat!
“A quarter of a mile, between Cigar and a perfect season!” Chills
His hands bleed all the way
I don't know why, but I always choke up when the mighty Cigar makes his move. Brilliant horse and jockey!
Me too Patricia 😊
Cigar was an absolute stud. Top 3 horse of all time
Um... er... uh...
I love this horse. For all time and for all eternity. He was one of the greatest!
Greatest race call in BC history!
Absolutely. Just commented on that on twitter today and that's what brought me here
What a call. The sport will miss you TD
And now you too old buddy... RIP
"And they're off, in the Kentucky Derby!" (Durkin´s usual opening line in each Derby he calls. Greetings from Venezuela)

The incomparable, invincible, unbeatable CIGAR
Racing lost a true legend yesterday in Cigar. I'll never forget this call at the wire...one of the best ever.
Best race call ever
RIP CIGAR, I LOVE YOU. Miss Tom Durkin calling races.
Goodbye, Cigar. Rest in peace
That shot where you see Jerry leaning back with his feet on the dash - you just knew Cigar was going to blow it open

Cigar went up against the best his age and older and beat them all. The greatest racehorse of all time.
Cigar is a Monster when it come to heavy race, best horse ever
I was a stable emplyee for 22 years and am jaded and hard to impress but this horse makes me stand and take my hat off to him.
Cigar was in the zone that day. Bailey had his hands full just trying to contain him as long as he did.
Happy Birthday Champ. Miss you ❤
I loved his calls more than ANY announcer EVER
Denman was the best imo. :D
@@gutzzgutzz6795 yes iyo, but 2 to 1 agree that Tom was a better and far more dramatic race caller. Denman is a close 2nd however .
@@angel_emc341 I disagree is all. Watch Denmans call of Cigar in the pacific classic or Zenyatta 2009 breeders cup classic.

Tinners Way ran an incredibly even Pacific Classic (I think in 1995) that ranks up there in perfection along with Ghostzapper's BC Classic.

BC Classic is always more important than Dubai.
@@4orrcountry YES SIR.
I was at the Arlington citation challenge. Besides the BC, I believe that race was Cigars biggest race because he tied Citations record.
He was an exploding Cigar this day. He hadn't impressed that much in his previous victory but on BC day he was a powerhouse.
