I love that statement of “it’s not a question of what is right but a question of what decision can I live with”. Such a great perspective because at the end of the day we are so led by our infantile emotions that I don’t believe we will ever truly trust what is right or wrong. But thinking about a decision from the perspective of “can I live with these possible consequences” really helps us unfreeze ourselves and come to a decision faster.
This is such a huge thing for me! Everyone experiences self-doubt at times, but I’ve fallen into the same traps over and over for so many years that I OBSESSIVELY question my own judgment. I haven’t solved this in romantic relationships yet, but everything else has gotten easier. ☺️
I think, whilst this may be more enhanced for those with BPD, these issues are something all humans struggle with at times. I certainly struggle with self doubt, not always knowing when it’s best to seek counsel from others or rely on myself, not always trusting that my feelings are valid or my response justified for a given situation…I think a lot of these skills are developed through experience and wisdom, which takes time.
Thank you so much for saying that! It’s so important to remember that people with BPD are not categorically different from most other people - it’s just a matter of degree. Many of the things that we talk about on our show will absolutely apply to people who don’t have BPD!!
This was a super helpful video, I like the advice about getting a third person's perspective and the point about intuition taking trials and errors. I have been struggling with self trust too , I'm glad I'm not alone :) Thank you guys

I really enjoyed this discussion. Having a lack of clear identity may also contribute to being more relient on others opinions for decision making.
I too rely on others to do what is right. It is always best to learn to trust yourself rather than put that burden on others to do it for you......
