Midnight Suns is FREE on the Epic Games store until June 13. Grab it while you can! I was not paid to say that, I genuinely love this game and want more people to try it. Heyo, this is the guy that brought up that it's free on Epic. I decided to pick this game up, since I'm currently sick at home and I didn't really have much else to do. I remember brushing it off the second I heard it was a card game when it came out. Cut to today, I've played about 15 hours in two days... You were right, the gameplay is extremely engaging and entertaining, every single move feels like it's got such weight behind it, which makes every hit feel so satisfying. The social aspect is kinda growing on me too. I really like how all the characters have their little quirks. Blade being a bookworm and Strange worrying about Tony's depression really endeared me to them. Thanks for the recommendation!
Midnight suns had the better overall extra dlc content Marvels avengers game had better gear, some would prefer the 3rd person combat style over XCOM in marvels avengers. Both games had better stories, but if I wanted a better story I think midnight suns is better, gameplay avengers would've been good if it wasn't so boring. Marvels midnight suns seems more fun online. Marvels avengers paved the way. But I'll give midnight suns a shot. I'm not a fan of XCOM fighting styles
Lol I got morbius late and when we get that bomb thing from hydra morbius was there but I couldn't interact with him 😂 I went and got him immediately afterwards
I will never forget falling in love with this game for my 100+ hour playthrough, finally pushing to the gate for the final boss, talking with every character for the last time before the ending... and then FINALLY getting blindsided with *THAT* line from *THAT* character. They waited the ENTIRE game to pull that card and I needed minutes to recover. Such a cool game.
@@evansellers5205 Actually it's a little sillier than that, as I said it's BEFORE the ending. If you need a little more context, you can talk to every character one last time and then not interact with them further. This character in particular CAN be re-interacted with JUST so they can repeat this line however many times you want.
Love how this game understood PERFECTLY each one of the characters that were part of the plot, & having cool reference to obscure facts & moments of the OG comicbooks in the optional dialogue
Venom especially. The poor guy has been misunderstood in a lot of recent adaptations. It's a nice when they remember Venom's whole motivation used to be about being Spidey's biggest op & how he eventually got his redemption thanks to Peter. Even remembered to add that bit about how Venom isn't just the suit or Eddie, it's both of them together.
I’ve played this game already and I fell in love with its charm. The reaction to Hulk’s Worldbreaker card doing ridiculous amounts of damage will never leave me
The marketing for this game was so bad, I was interested from the first announcement but had no idea what the game actually played like til I got it, and finding out it was a turn based card game, made me love it so much as RPGs and card games are two of my favorite things
Lucky! I wish that was my reaction. I saw the first couple trailers and was on the edge of my seat. But then I watched the first gameplay reveal and immediately lost all interest. I never felt so disappointed in such a short span of time
Actually tho the marketing made me hyped but I dislike card games and when I found out I got like every bit of hype turned into hatred. Still wont finish the game because it's "grind" feels stupid. Mission, run around talk and collect orbs, end day, loop
i find it funny how different people play the game, spider-man was by far my favorite character, i love how he can remove almost all the first wave enemies with enviromental attacks, and you barely have to focus on the minions with his crazy amount of knockback (i am also a huge spider-man fan and kinda forced myself to learn his playstyle)
It's easier to put up with Magik's walls when you've read the New Mutants comic that turn her time in Limbo into a child being "bad touched" metaphor...
It's interesting how you perceived Magik. I loved getting to know her and didn't find her grating at all. For me Nico was that character that I actively avoided and maxed friendship with last. She completely rubbed me the wrong way in every conversation and felt very entitled and over-the-top naive about everything. I hated how she straight up ignores you and Magik when it came to the birthday surprise. Plus her gameplay felt the worst to me.
I know, with Magik it made sense, she was a mutant, got tricked to live in hell. Stuff like that would not make someone the nicest person. Yet Nico acts like such a cunt if you dont agree with her, and then goes on to complain about the Avengers, when there the ones coming up with the plans, and she does nothing to help out. But gets pissy when they "take over"
I personally didn't like Carol Danvers because of how entitled she talked and the way she treated things like when towards the beginning when Bruce falls to lillith and iron man chooses not to kill Bruce. She is mad at him and says he should have taken the shot. And before thay when she says "don't tell Bruce but when they say bring out the big guns they really mean me"
i just got the legendary edition for this game on sale for $25 and i have been having an absolute blast with it. at first i wasn’t sure about all the friendship levels and hangouts and stuff around the abbey but i’ve probably spent as much time on that stuff as i have on the actual missions. and i wasn’t too sure about playing as a created character but it works so well in the story and makes the room for you to interact with and become friends with the characters. the gameplay is really solid too, i got it because the animations and graphics looked good but the card combat and the rules make for a great strategy game.
I'm a pretty big Magik fan and personally I really like her default costume in the game, I think it's a really clean design that works tonally for the game, I would've liked to see her more current outfit as an alternative though
I actually had an interview with the combat producer of this game on my podcast channel. It was interesting hearing the choices made to make this a card based game to limit the power level of these heroes to make an interactive experience for the player.
Got the game last week, and it's great, I put it off for so long as I thought some of the characters looked weird, but that will teach me to judge a game by its cover lol
its interesting to me that you list Nico as one of the weaker characters. she's a must-have on my team and has cleared entire levels on her own. she's fun and powerful to me!
Her problem is that her initial deck is pretty weak and heavy RNG dependant, you need to get her good cards to get her rolling unlike lets say Ironman who has all he needs from the get go.
I started my journey with the game a few months ago and man I’m glad I tried it out! What a great game! Very outside my comfort zone with run based combat but I grew to love it!
I bought the Legendary edition of this game on sale last year and had a blast with it! Ghost Rider, Ironman, Spider-man, Venom, and light side Hunter were my favorite characters to use. Midnight Suns it deserves more love in spite of its flaws.
I loved this game SO much. A bit of the modern slag is weird, but aside from that, this game was insanely good and I'm so happy to see other people talking about it cause i feel like this one kinda flew under the radar for most people
That’s weird, I really liked that you had to actively make the asshole choices to get on Magik’s good side. Nico was the one character o disliked the most. She’s just so whiny constantly, always shitting on the Avengers
Can you blame her? The only thing the avengers cared about was bringing hulk back but never mentioned bringing Wanda back so I agree with Nico on that point
I revisited it recently after initially playing it for only about an hour because of your costume videos, and man I'm so mad I didn't stick with it initially. This game is great and sucked me in big time
Also, i think that a big reason so many people dislike the card aspect for Midnight Sons is due to it being a $70 game at launch with multiple deluxe editions. Whereas in SNAP its a ftp mobile game with a monrtization scheme that isnt actually awful. But overall i gotta say Midnight Sons is my favorite Marvel game to date.
Idea to fix Deadpool’s gameplay: Instead of Deadpool’s En Fuego being triggered by KOing any enemy, En Fuego is triggered by Deadpool KOing specific marked targets. This is to match Deadpool’s role as a mercenary. Basically, at the beginning of every mission, an enemy is targeted by Deadpool as his “mark.” Deadpool must then need to KO this enemy in order to gain 1 stack of En Fuego. Once the enemy is KOed, a new random enemy is marked at the beginning of the subsequent round. If Deadpool fails to kill his target by the end of the round, he loses 1 stack of En Fuego; Deadpool no longer loses his En Fuego by taking damage. Deadpool loses all of his En Fuego if he is knocked out, making his passive heal actually useful. All in all, this change to Deadpool’s playstyle now has synergy with his passive, as he is a progressive overload character that builds up more and more damage in order to eliminate more and more targets. This will never happen, but it’s a fun exercise.
I mean, Firaxis' games are no stranger to sweeping overhaul mods, looking at Civilization and XCOM. Could totally see a Enfuego rework or Scarlet Witch AOE buff mod.
I love this game, I don't usually want DLCs but this is the type of game where I would absolutely pay for more DLC since more characters would give me a reason to replay the game again. It sucks that the game didn't do better because it really is a good game.
I'll admit that I was extremely disappointed when I found out about the card aspect. I love Xcom games and was hoping for that, but Marvel. I saw it for super cheap with all DLC and decided to give it a shot. I was wrong about the cards. They work really well. I had an absolute blast with this game and I wish more people would play it so we could potentially get a sequel. The only thing I would really change is adding romances. Comic accuracy be damned. And I would make the party 4 people instead of 3.
It took me like two hours of feeling like quitting the game to become addicted to it and put in about 500 hours, I wish this game still got support or a second character pass considering big MS characters like Daredevil and Moon Knight didn't make it in
I disagree about Nico. I think she's pretty valid on complaints. The Avengers came into their home, had war meetings without them about the state of things, and were giving orders. The Midnight Suns were supposed to work with the chosen on this. And honestly with them we were able to pull back Hulk and Scarlet Witch from Mother's control. Let's not pretend Tony and Strange weren't super pretentious to them throughout the story.
To address the alignment friendship thing - I wouldn't worry about the friendship being "dramatically" effected by your alignment choices; Any given dialogue choice (alignment based or not) will give approximately +1 to +2 at most with few exceptions; Training/complimenting/bringing on missions do that in a repeatable capacity and hangouts/hangs/gifts give WAY more than that. the 1 or 2 points from dialogues in a drop in the bucket
I only just heard about this game in passing a couple years back, and watched a friend play it recently and I had to get it myself. Absolutely addicting to play through and there's always something to do in the Abbey alone. Games that are just chock full of endless things to do is something I enjoy since it keeps me invested in spending time playing them.
I wonder if Deadpool could have been improved if his en fuego provided an additional bonus when the level went down. Lets say to get to Level 3 en fuego you'd need to kill 3 enemies, or go back down to level 1 if you take maybe 1/3 your health in damage in exchange for a different but equally strong bonus. Or perhaps he has two stats that scale based on how much en fuego, one scales upwards and one that scales downwards. This would encourage a reckless and carefree playstyle but I feel that's more appropriate for the character
@@tTaseric Honestly, kinda useless. The current IS RISKY: play your abilities well while trying to K.O. with Deadpool abilities and keeping him untouched. Get good🤷
out of curiosity, are you planning to make a rating suit video (like the ones you did for Marvel's Spider-Man & Square enix Avengers) on the IRON MAN VR suits? because that game have such an awesome variety of suits worth of commenting on Specially the Gunsmith variants
It's funny you said what you did about exploring the Abbey Grounds, cause that's my favorite part of the game. This is probably one of my favorite hubs in a game
This video taught me not to judge the game on what I wish it was but for what it actually is In other words putting aside the game I want and enjoying the game I have
I liked the Abbey but yeah, they should have added a shoulder button prompt to zip to another vendor as long as you've interacted with one to be in the menu at all. That way you'd just have to run to your left to speak to Blade and then you can just do everything with no running around the house.
Just have to say, this video encouraged me to buy the game (I did it on sale for about $20, which is one hell of a deal) and I’m having a blast! Thank you for that. That being said, I didn’t really get what you meant by “Sonic Frontiers-y” until I played the game lol. “Man, (character) would love this!” “Hey, you should meet (character)!” “Haha, this reminds me of (character)!” I do like that it clearly comes from a place of love and not “I clapped when I saw it!” though.
Got this game for free from epic game. Wasn't really a big fan of card game until I actually playing and Ooh boy, I'm so glad they made this a card game. An rpg would made it really difficult for you to fully understand how to control a character, and balancing. I mean, how would you make Magik's portal functional as a focus for fighting style? And how would other character interact with the same situation? Making it an rpg would massively increase the time, resource and effort needed to put into a solo game. One more thing I love is the game doesn't have any micro transaction, if you want you can pay $23 for the season pass dlc but that's it. And the dlc really worth the money. The Deadpool mission was the best for me, Morbius and Venom are nice too, while Storm basic deck was a bit under whelming until you unlock her stronger card and make her a literal force of nature
7:02 Personally I just don't like those types of games because I find them sorta boring, I enjoy strategy and I'm fine playing turn based games but I'd much prefer to just play other games 11:57 Damn, haven't heard that name in ages. Genuinely my only exposure to him is through the lego games haha Also, as someone else pointed out midnight suns is free on epic games store from now till 13th June, I literally just got it rn coz why not 🤷♂
I really enjoyed this game when it came out. I love the Abbey and walking around talking to characters, I love my Hunter the customization options of the game. The story was okay, frankly. The gameplay itself is fun, though it has its flaws. I recognize its not perfect but I don't suspect they'll have a chance to make another. So this game, while not a diamond in the rough, certainly will hold a special place in my heart and my Steam library
Dude this game was so underrated, I really enjoyed it. It's always nice to play as a faceless character that actually speaks. My only gripe was it wasn't long enough and there wasn't more base characters in the game itself. The gameplay is awesome, it really makes you think and strategize and it makes you wanna keep playing because of all the different characters and abilities, the battles are always fresh. The other thing i think was overlooked was the relationship system. I know everyone likes to dog on romance-like mechanics but with this world, it works. You already know these characters so you know who you'd like to get closer to and getting more relationships leveled up, unlocks more content in the game so it gives you reason. This game wasn't perfect but it was sure as hell better than The Avengers game lol I hope this game someday gets the recognition it deserves and they make another game like this. I personally think the bones of this game would work great for an X-Men game. Live at the school, go to class, train your powers for missions and get to know the teachers and classmates.
I platinumed this game. Did like two and a half playthroughs I think. So I wholeheartedly agree with pretty much all the positives and negatives brought up in this review :P
I had shoulder surgery last year and discovered this game. I was only able to use one hand while healing. This game kept me sane from boredom. I fully enjoyed the game. I loved Hulk, Deadpool, Dr strange and Wolverine. I wish we got Punisher and more DLC.
To this day I always see "watch it be a card game 😂💀" in the comments of superhero game trailers. They'll never know how good this game was. Admittedly I was one of them until I got it on a sale.
I did see comments of people complaining it’s a card game and not an action game, which seeing how mediocre the recent action games for the last few years feels like dead end
I just beat this game on full difficulty after preordering the game years ago... i took breaks, tried not to get burnt out, but again and again I found so many gems. This game was amazing and weird... Triple A needs more games like this! All i can do is hope for a sequel... gambit is an obvious choice for a new character ;)
As a huge magik fan, I was pleased with her outfits, I'm used to her in the classic New Mutants yellow uniforms. Obviously I wish we got both, but I'm not upset.
Picked this up for free a bit ago and played ~12 hours. I love card games so I loved the missions but disliked/hated just about everything else. Between the extremely limiting deckbuilding (yknow, the best part of deckbuilders) and the grindy progression I couldn't go any farther.
I paid £15 for the deluxe edition, been chipping away at it slowly over the last few months. For that price I've already easily got my money's worth, and I feel like I've barely gotten started with it. It's not perfect but the combat is extremely satisfying when things fall into place.
Fantastic game. I've put 700 hours into it. Granted, I actually enjoy the story and character interaction, but even without that, the game is fun, challenging, and combinations of characters and abilities are nearly endless.
My only disagreement really is the characterisation, I think these are some of my favourite renditions of some of these characters ever. They clearly show an understanding of the character and their comic book counterparts but are just different enough to feel unique without ruining what makes them special. Whilst I do think some characters (like Magik, Iron Man and Blade) are written better than others (like Dr Strange and Bruce Banner) I think for the most part everyone is written spectacularly. I especially don't understand the Magik hate perosnally Although I do agree the boring plot, and lack of urgency regarding the plot holds some of these characters back. I also think the main story does them less justice than the side content, events like the Book Club, have some amazing characterisation, and show the characters off better than the main story ever does in my opinion. Awesome video! Keep it up!
I think making Scarlett witch have the glass cannon buffs that Deadpool has and then DP should get a strong self destruct where he revives after 2 battles or something and then wolverine’s taunts
Funny that you mention snap, and suns being the gotcha game. They did quite the flip, it was snap that got me into suns and suns has much more replayability if you are story driven
I think I love this game for two major reasons, I love the comics and I came from 100s of hours in xcom. I’m not averse to turn based games inherently, and I liked the attention to the decades of material each character had. I remember in the early days of the mcu, when it wasn’t cool to be a nerd yet, and I would wait for each movie expecting some storylines are characters to be prominent or at least an obscure reference for the hardcore comic fans. Now it seems like the mcu wants to reference itself from the better times. I know there are rights limitations regarding the live action films, but the closed world settings of each movie make them feel too separate and not like a living world as it is in the comics, where anyone may show up if they are based in that area or passing through.
I’d like a link to that google doc that you mention at the end, please. It’s a complete pipe dream, but I hope that a spiritual successor to this game using the same gameplay but starring the X Men gets made. Maybe lean full into the X-Com influence and have it be set in space among the backdrop of the “Shi’ar-Brood war” that is mentioned by Storm.
Thanks for the critique video and commentary... This game got a lot of heat before and after release, both due to poor marketing, as well as people not liking the Friend Simulator aspect of the game... I enjoyed the game for the most part, and the only real issue I had with it (beyond some occasional optimization FPS issues) was the daily grinding of resources... The first time I tried to play the game after I bought it a while ago, the daily resource grind in order to progress made me quit playing... Where as my recent playthrough I opted to mod the basic resources (not the plants) so I wouldn't have to grind them so hard, and was able to enjoy all other aspects of the game far more... Yes, the face visuals were not perfect when characters spoke, but I've seen far worse in other games (i.e. Mass Effect Andromeda using the Frostbite engine, and some others)... That part didn't really bother me, because I enjoyed the conversations with the characters... I tried my best to 100% the game, and I'm pretty sure I never got to experience absolutely every line of dialogue available, because there is a randomness to some it plus your decisions got you different replies... Which is always something I like in Story Rich RPG's... I really enjoyed the side story lines that came with the DLC characters, and how they tied into the main story... At the end they really don't play much of a roll, and that was fine, because I didn't expect them to, being DLC's... The Secondary Story's involving the exploration, learning about the Hunters past, and the clubs scenes really helped flesh out the Hunter and other characters... They were interesting and fun, being able to see different sides of certain characters personalities and their interactions with one another... The Main Story, while the I do agree the overall goal was simple, I still enjoyed the content leading up to the end... The end itself, although the battles were super fun and somewhat more difficult then prior fights, kind felt a bit underwhelming... Mostly because it was slightly cliche, slightly predictable, and far too short... The cliffhanger, while cool, and leaving me wanting to see more, it was disappointing in that the likelyhood we'll get a sequel to this game, given it didn't sell well, is highly unlikely... And I feel that is a shame... The game play mechanics were simple, and based on how much you focused in on the Researching, slowly opened up further repeatable content if you wanted lots of things to do... Most of that content is either optional and/or it eventually became almost unnecessary depending on your need for new cards, more resources, or you just liked having more things to do... Which was nice to have those options... The daily combat was a unique and fun system as well... Some battles were almost chess like in how you decided to tackle given scenarios and situations... With the drawing of random cards, adding a huge amount of variety to each combat sequence... The so called "Friendship Simulator" aspect of the game, trying to build up friendship levels with each character became my primary focus most of the time... As I wanted to experience the interactions opened up by each friendship level... Sure, the friendship levels also tied somewhat into their combat stats, but the interactions are a big part of the character growth between your character and all the other characters... Is it perfect all the time? No... There are some character dialogues and personalities I liked more than others... Yes, there was quite a bit of quippy dialogue that was not very serious, but overall it didn't bother me so much... A few of the characters were probably a bit over the top when it came to whining about certain things... While I liked Nico, she was probably the character I got annoyed with, now and then, the most... While I understood the aesthetic they were going for, it just felt a bit more artificial and out of place now and then... I think people will have their favorites and their less favorites... Generally, I think the game is good... Not perfect, but I still think it's a decent game overall... Do the characters stick to the Comics or are they infected with MCU non-sense? I felt it more closely followed the comics and didn't feel any MCU non-sense existed in the game, that I noticed... Is it worth paying full price for? Depends, but if you're unsure you could wait till it's on sale... Same goes for the Season Pass for the character DLC's... If you're going to buy one, better to buy em all...
This game is a lot like Persona 5 in the fact that I originally put it off bc of the genre but I eventually learned to just get over it and Persona 5 is now my favorite game of all time.
About Magik, I don't know what they have done with her since child Illiyana died to the Legacy Virus, but old Magik isn't supposed to be like that. She hid pretty well how she was f-ed up most of the time, and used many different diversions if people got too close to the truth.
I really liked Midnight Suns. From the gameplay to the “cheesy” character dynamics. Some of them were sitcom like and I was all for it. Like Magik’s birthday or Blade’s book club. Blade’s book club was hilarious to me. Blade creates a book club in an attempt to get closer to Captain Marvel and is sort of peeved when other people join. When Captain America joins he asks the hunter if Blade created this club because Blade wanted to be friends with him. Loving chaos I told Captain America he was right on the money. The game was full of those cheesy events and I loved it. My favorite character was Magik. Someone I didn’t know about until this game. She had her own story and interesting story and was voiced by the amazing Laura Bailey. Explaining why she was my best friend. She quite literally never let me down (In part to how she rolled 2 Limbo’s Grasp with Free on them early in the campaign. She was the only companion I was honest with before the final battle. While it was parties, sunshine, and rainbows with everyone else. I told her I might not make it back(the dark option) and what she said moved me more than what everyone else had to say. I will say as far as the gameplay goes I enjoyed the loop (except rolling for card mods but, Rng helps the game time go longer I guess) and if you put time into every character they can be great. All except for Deadpool. He rides a fine line and is rng heavy. As he wants to draw his own cards get a crazy amount of KOs to fill up his ever increasing meter. Even though you can get free on a card that gives him ressist, can draw a good amount of cards while giving the next 2 ally kills to count towards his stack count, as well as mods on his cards he falls flat. As you need to at least reach 3 full stacks for Deadpool to become a character as his damage and effects are so low prior. And with over leveling you will come to find (even with a mark support or if you run mark on his chain attack) even with other cards being quick or drawing cards on KO (even if you know them into another ally for card draw) you will always be running out of Deadpool cards and your action economy isn’t as efficient as other characters. You can actually finish missions well before Deadpool gets all his stacks. Most characters do have a character Identity. Even characters like Ghost Rider have a place as each character can heal passively each turn and he has a card that can make him immune to damage (that you can get free on) and heal him. There are a few rules in the game for every character. Everyone wants at least 1 Free card (you can justify more than just 1 free card at times)and 1 quick card. Everyone also wants a way to draw a card or 2cards. This can be draw last attack played on a card that is baseline free or another skill. Every team wants a mark support and preferably a way to get strengthen. When you reach “endgame” tanking stops mattering unless you want to play to a gimic. As you can win most missions in 2-3 rounds. My favorite gimmick character is from Nico and the DLC characters (aside from Deadpool). Nico’s double up skill is crazy. You can mod it to +2 redraws on card play or give it a redraw effect. If you roll double up all skills in hand, with 2 copies of double up (with skill on them) in hand you can duplicate some of the best skill cards in the game that are single use forever. Venom’s assimilation and Hulk’s always angry are my favorite to do this on. I once gave hulk 30K health just because I could. He had so many rage counters he hit the visual limit on them. As for venom more copies of his midnight suns card (it adds quick to all his cards and every card draws a venom card) allows him to clear the board as his cards can have thier modded effects (being draw cards on KO or gain strengthen). There is so much to say about this game. It’s kind of a shame this game didn’t do well enough commercially. As I’ve loved most of Firaxis’ games and I hope they continue to do so.
Legitimately fucking depressing there is/were more people willing to give Avengers/Suicide Squad a chance than this game somply because it isnt a big dumb action game
Yes because I rather sit around picking cards out for hours on end watching the game play itself, then actually running around and fighting with my character.
It really is a shame that the game underperformed. The Strategy/deck-building card game/social sim aspects really makes this a one-of-a-kind experience. I suppose modern MCU-centric Marvel fans want action, so the times where slower, number-crunch-y games like this or the Diablo-like Ultimate Alliance series appealed to the primary demographic of nerdy comic-readers has simply passed. At least UA3 ended up doing pretty well for itself thanks to its status as an early Switch exclusive, even if there are seemingly no plans for any sequels in that series either.
While the complaint about magiks default suit is warranted, she has on several occasions worn a similar looking costume that was chosen as the default skin (I’m assuming it’s a nod to when she was apart of the new mutants group who all wore the standard X-men outfit initially) Also yeah the Abby isn’t the best, honestly it would a much better hub if you were only required to use the mission select station
This game is surprisingly good. I just wished that more people would've given this game the time of day. Especially since it gives characters like Robbie and Nico the spotlight they basically never got. And yes, Magik is standoffish in the comics, too, BUT that's just the surface level of the character if you just get a bit more beneath the surface she's a lot better
This video made me try the game on PS+ and I bought the season pass cause I’m enjoying it so much! Really not big on the abbey friendship parts of the game or the writing but I’m hooked on the combat
I think it's funny how my opinion on magik is total opposite of yours, since I like her a lot in this game to the point of her being my first maxed friendship character, even tho I'm way more of Spider-man fan and he got second maxed out (but I agree on her costumes tho) Something I find odd is Doctor Strange place in the story, he's sometimes treated as part of the Avengers by the Suns which is weird since I don't see him as part of the avengers and while he's not a core midnight sons character in the comics to my knowledge, he helped build the midnight sons team in Damnation and it was gonna lead to a midnight sons book after with him on the team so I don't understand why he is treated as part of avengers and cast out even tho he's part of the emo kids side plot
As I said, I'm not very familiar with Magik, so it's nice to hear the perspective of someone who is. Also glad to hear I'm not alone in regards to her costumes😅 Yeah Doc Strange being associated with the Avengers is odd for sure, but that can be chocked up to MCU synergy.
@@DoritoGOD2811 unfortunately MCU synergy will always be in other medias even if just by a little, like Peter in this game feels like it's leaning towards more of MCU Peter than 616 Peter but not a big deal The review is great, and I want to know if you have plan on doing more Midnight suns videos, like the concepts you had for other Marvel characters in this gameplay style or even a video ranking all of the suits in the game at least for all the Marvel heroes
1:37 my one complaint is EVERYBODY HAS THE SAME POSE. they made so many cards, voice lines, and outfits. They couldn't add about 1 custom idle pose for each person? I liked magik. I got her max friendship first, her story on the daily missions felt the most natural as it went along with mephisto as I faught Dracula along the same time and he made an appearance or two
Midnight Suns is FREE on the Epic Games store until June 13. Grab it while you can!
I was not paid to say that, I genuinely love this game and want more people to try it.

How do you get it for free on Xbox? Can you? Do you know?
@@ranieldale4842this is second marvel game(first bring guardian's) that has blown away my expectations. Why can't marvel market games
Midnight suns had the better overall extra dlc content
Marvels avengers game had better gear, some would prefer the 3rd person combat style over XCOM in marvels avengers.
Both games had better stories, but if I wanted a better story I think midnight suns is better, gameplay avengers would've been good if it wasn't so boring.
Marvels midnight suns seems more fun online.
Marvels avengers paved the way.
But I'll give midnight suns a shot. I'm not a fan of XCOM fighting styles
ughhh I hate that I stopped focusing on Epic games for like months and never grabbed this game
My favorite part was how the dlc characters actively interact with the story
Same I was surprised when Deadpool made a joke about the avengers tower just getting blown up
Lol I got morbius late and when we get that bomb thing from hydra morbius was there but I couldn't interact with him 😂
I went and got him immediately afterwards
If anyone was wondering, yes. Iron Man's playstyle is intended by the devs. IIRC, they describe him as wanting to be the center of attention.
Sorry, which line do you mean?
@@thomasantrobus8261 I'd really rather not spoil it for anyone going in blind and I don't think we can spoiler text on youtube ^^;
@@Pinkanator I'll say it then..
SPOILERS AHEAD!
It's doctor Doom coming up to the book of chthon and he says "amateurs.."
@@evansellers5205 Actually it's a little sillier than that, as I said it's BEFORE the ending. If you need a little more context, you can talk to every character one last time and then not interact with them further. This character in particular CAN be re-interacted with JUST so they can repeat this line however many times you want.
@@Pinkanator Oh I did not read that correctly.
Love how this game understood PERFECTLY each one of the characters that were part of the plot, & having cool reference to obscure facts & moments of the OG comicbooks in the optional dialogue
it didn't really
@@marcusclark1339 Yes it did.
Was literally just about to go to bed when my TH-cam refreshed and I saw “Dorito God 15 seconds ago.” Bed can wait I guess
For real
Cringey
i’ve seen this exact comment since youtube made notifications
I love how Robbie just constantly fanboys over Johnny Blaze
Johnny Glaze
It's easier to put up with Magik's walls when you've read the New Mutants comic that turn her time in Limbo into a child being "bad touched" metaphor...
She got molested?
It's interesting how you perceived Magik. I loved getting to know her and didn't find her grating at all. For me Nico was that character that I actively avoided and maxed friendship with last. She completely rubbed me the wrong way in every conversation and felt very entitled and over-the-top naive about everything. I hated how she straight up ignores you and Magik when it came to the birthday surprise. Plus her gameplay felt the worst to me.
Wellfamn if I ever get this game I know the character to avoid now
I know, with Magik it made sense, she was a mutant, got tricked to live in hell.
Nico’s randomized card’s definitely fit her character in the comics and in the show. Due to her staffs very unique limit.
You can’t just say that and not drop a link
Got the game last week, and it's great, I put it off for so long as I thought some of the characters looked weird, but that will teach me to judge a game by its cover lol
I honestly very much enjoyed the game, the story, and the camraderie between the characters. I wish there’s more especially with the cliff.
its interesting to me that you list Nico as one of the weaker characters. she's a must-have on my team and has cleared entire levels on her own. she's fun and powerful to me!
I’ve never really been into strategy games, but it’s kinda fun once you get the hang of it.
I loved this game SO much. A bit of the modern slag is weird, but aside from that, this game was insanely good and I'm so happy to see other people talking about it cause i feel like this one kinda flew under the radar for most people
This dude is COOKING on TH-cam rn. He’s breaking free from the avengers game sub to him
That’s weird, I really liked that you had to actively make the asshole choices to get on Magik’s good side. Nico was the one character o disliked the most. She’s just so whiny constantly, always shitting on the Avengers
Funny enough I also really liked Magik and disliked Nico I wonder if that’s common you either like Nico but not Magik or like Magik but not Nico.
Can you blame her? The only thing the avengers cared about was bringing hulk back but never mentioned bringing Wanda back so I agree with Nico on that point
I revisited it recently after initially playing it for only about an hour because of your costume videos, and man I'm so mad I didn't stick with it initially. This game is great and sucked me in big time
You upload this like a week after I finished my first (120 hour) playthrough. Incredible timing for an incredible game.
It took me like two hours of feeling like quitting the game to become addicted to it and put in about 500 hours, I wish this game still got support or a second character pass considering big MS characters like Daredevil and Moon Knight didn't make it in
I just got into this game, glad to see you review it!
6:45 "Sonic Frontiers-y" is literally the perfect term for an abundance of unnecessary references
They're not unnecessary
Nice Dr.Strangelove reference ❤
The game is free on Epic Game until June 13 btw
He's fine the way he is. Just adapt to his playstyle
@@SimonPeter-g2x It's not that his playstyle is hard to adapt to it's just that it doesn't fit the character very well.
@@tTaseric What would be better?🤷
@@SimonPeter-g2x Well, I suggested what I think could be better in my original comment.
@@tTaseric Honestly, kinda useless. The current IS RISKY: play your abilities well while trying to K.O. with Deadpool abilities and keeping him untouched. Get good🤷
8:43 All the YuGioh refence in other videos make so much sense now lol
out of curiosity, are you planning to make a rating suit video (like the ones you did for Marvel's Spider-Man & Square enix Avengers) on the IRON MAN VR suits? because that game have such an awesome variety of suits worth of commenting on
Specially the Gunsmith variants
Yeah, magics comic suit gives her a GREAT “personality”
It's funny you said what you did about exploring the Abbey Grounds, cause that's my favorite part of the game. This is probably one of my favorite hubs in a game
I bought the game last year second hand for 30 bucks and despite its shortcomings i loved every second of it
This video taught me not to judge the game on what I wish it was but for what it actually is
In other words putting aside the game I want and enjoying the game I have
I liked the Abbey but yeah, they should have added a shoulder button prompt to zip to another vendor as long as you've interacted with one to be in the menu at all. That way you'd just have to run to your left to speak to Blade and then you can just do everything with no running around the house.
Hulk being unlocked at the end just killed the hype for me 💔
Honestly, it really plays like a modern JRPG. But, with card
I waited a long time to play this game...and it's been worth the wait.
7:02 Personally I just don't like those types of games because I find them sorta boring, I enjoy strategy and I'm fine playing turn based games but I'd much prefer to just play other games
11:57 Damn, haven't heard that name in ages. Genuinely my only exposure to him is through the lego games haha
Also, as someone else pointed out midnight suns is free on epic games store from now till 13th June, I literally just got it rn coz why not 🤷♂
I really enjoyed this game when it came out.
Anyone who doesn’t like card games are just unlucky, I know this because I’m the unlucky guy.
I did see comments of people complaining it’s a card game and not an action game, which seeing how mediocre the recent action games for the last few years feels like dead end
This game is genuinely amazing I still play it
Honestly I just loved this game.
Only thing that would make this game better is the ability to smooch Tony Stark
I paid £15 for the deluxe edition, been chipping away at it slowly over the last few months. For that price I've already easily got my money's worth, and I feel like I've barely gotten started with it. It's not perfect but the combat is extremely satisfying when things fall into place.
I tried this game recently, and just like Xcom 1 and 2, my family had to put out a missing persons report due to all my time being spent by this game.
Magik was my favorite character in the game! She was awesome!
Midnight Suns is an underappreciated gem
Holy hell…I remember the trailers but didn’t know it already came out lol.
I love card games so this game just clicked for me immediately, put 400 hours into it in several playthroughs and I want a sequel that’s even better
Dorito God your opinion is sacred to me and therefore use this as my excuse to finally give this game a chance
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this game
I like magik. That original New Mutants run is amazing. She is extremely obnoxious in this game tho
I normally dislike the card rpg games but I gave midnight suns a try on sale and was immediately addicted
This was my goty 2023
I'm all about good stories and love games with the best graphics. That said, I loved this game so much, including the story.
This game was amazing. So sad that it didn’t perform well.
Legitimately fucking depressing there is/were more people willing to give Avengers/Suicide Squad a chance than this game somply because it isnt a big dumb action game
Its because those games have actually fkn gameplay.
Awful gameplay yes, but its better than cards
@@joshieboy9727 And it being a Card Game/RPG outright invalidates it from having Gameplay... How exactly?
@@16_bit_bungo no, it has gameplay, but very little, if u like it, then cool, more power to ya, but me personally, i hate it
Yes because I rather sit around picking cards out for hours on end watching the game play itself, then actually running around and fighting with my character.
It’s ok that people like different things.
Your opinion on the avengers A day spiderman combat mechanics would be amazing
i am glad people are starting to love this game
It really is a shame that the game underperformed. The Strategy/deck-building card game/social sim aspects really makes this a one-of-a-kind experience. I suppose modern MCU-centric Marvel fans want action, so the times where slower, number-crunch-y games like this or the Diablo-like Ultimate Alliance series appealed to the primary demographic of nerdy comic-readers has simply passed. At least UA3 ended up doing pretty well for itself thanks to its status as an early Switch exclusive, even if there are seemingly no plans for any sequels in that series either.
While the complaint about magiks default suit is warranted, she has on several occasions worn a similar looking costume that was chosen as the default skin (I’m assuming it’s a nod to when she was apart of the new mutants group who all wore the standard X-men outfit initially)
Also yeah the Abby isn’t the best, honestly it would a much better hub if you were only required to use the mission select station
I actually loved the game, would have loved to see competitive gaming with that mechanics and structure in a PVP World.
I loved this game, one of the few I actually finished
Listening to this while playing midnight suns.
This video made me try the game on PS+ and I bought the season pass cause I’m enjoying it so much! Really not big on the abbey friendship parts of the game or the writing but I’m hooked on the combat
I think it's funny how my opinion on magik is total opposite of yours, since I like her a lot in this game to the point of her being my first maxed friendship character, even tho I'm way more of Spider-man fan and he got second maxed out (but I agree on her costumes tho)
Something I find odd is Doctor Strange place in the story, he's sometimes treated as part of the Avengers by the Suns which is weird since I don't see him as part of the avengers and while he's not a core midnight sons character in the comics to my knowledge, he helped build the midnight sons team in Damnation and it was gonna lead to a midnight sons book after with him on the team so I don't understand why he is treated as part of avengers and cast out even tho he's part of the emo kids side plot
As I said, I'm not very familiar with Magik, so it's nice to hear the perspective of someone who is. Also glad to hear I'm not alone in regards to her costumes😅
Yeah Doc Strange being associated with the Avengers is odd for sure, but that can be chocked up to MCU synergy.
@@DoritoGOD2811 unfortunately MCU synergy will always be in other medias even if just by a little, like Peter in this game feels like it's leaning towards more of MCU Peter than 616 Peter but not a big deal
The review is great, and I want to know if you have plan on doing more Midnight suns videos, like the concepts you had for other Marvel characters in this gameplay style or even a video ranking all of the suits in the game at least for all the Marvel heroes
@@gz207 I'll make videos on the costumes for sure. I'll have more details in a community post in the next few days.
1:37 my one complaint is EVERYBODY HAS THE SAME POSE. they made so many cards, voice lines, and outfits. They couldn't add about 1 custom idle pose for each person?
I liked magik. I got her max friendship first, her story on the daily missions felt the most natural as it went along with mephisto as I faught Dracula along the same time and he made an appearance or two
This game is so underrated, I love it
