I believe this was around 1980.....Thank you for playing this suggestion. So this concert was a memorial for the late Andy Durant RIP. He passed in 1979 of Melanoma at the age of 24 or 25. The full concert is epic and showcases the songs Andy wrote, except of course this song by Bob Dylan. The piano in the introduction is played by Don Walker of Cold Chisel. The humming at the beginning was Ian Moss and Jimmy Barnes, but the camera was on Ian Moss.
Verse 1 - Ian Moss (Black Shirt with the guitar),
Verse 2 -Mick Pealing (Blue Suit) who was the Lead singer of Stars, the group the memorial was for, with the loss of Andy Durant, their song writer and guitarist/singer.
Verse 3 - Broderick Smith RIP (Lead Singer of the Dingoes, and middle person in the group of 3 with Richard Clapton in the black leather jacket, and Billy Rogers).
Verse 4 - Jimmy takes the microphone out of the stand... hold onto your socks.... Jimmy Barnes (Red T-Shirt) and Renee Geyer (pronounced Gay-er, our soul Queen of Australia) RIP
The other guy with a red dress shirt singing with Ian Moss at times is Glyn Mason. The second guitar soloist was Mal Eastick, in the light blue shirt. He was the guitarist for the band Stars.

I don't think mick would like you calling him Pearling, I mean Pealing is his surname, and the Andrew Durrant Memorial Concert was at the Palais Theatre in StKilda. Mick had a band called Mick Pealing and the Ideals after Andy passed. The drummer went on to play with Mondo Rock, JJ.Hacket, the bass player became a band manager, Ian MacDonald, the lead guitar player, Malcom Eastick went on to play with Broderick Smiths Big Combo.

All the songs in the concert, except "Knockin on heavens door" were written or co-written by Andrew. Wellworth checking out.

Oh my, listening to this has just set off my memories. So many great performers here in Australia. I am only new to your channel, so I have only just started listening to your catalogue of past reactions. My memories go back a bit because I have been a life long lover of music since the 1950’s and I have to give credit to the many Britains and New Zealanders who have enriched Australia’s music scene for decades. From New Zealand, Max Merritt and the Meteors (pure 60-70’s) then Split Endz and Crowded House and many more. Of course AC/DC, Stevie Wright, Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham, Olivia Newton John, the Gibb brothers and many more from the UK who have entertained us over the decades. I won’t even attempt to laud the Aussie born talent with the exception of the one and only Renee Geyer RIP who shared the stage in this memorial concert. They were the trail blazers for the successful talent that has emerged to follow in their footsteps.

I remember this concert among other things as my first introduction to this song. Compared to this the Axel Rose version has always appeared like a socks down the jocks plastic version of the song. "Wah Wah knocking on heaven's door oar yeah yeah yeah." The Axel Rose version gets played in rotation on FM radio here in Australia and I have to listen to it at work knowing that the perfect version of the song that I listened to in my youth played by our best rock artists is never going to be played.

Bon was not the original singer of ACDC, he was the second. Believe it or not, they started out more of a glam band. There is a video clip, more than one actually with the original singer. The song sounds more like something that Hush should've released. ACDC was a good band, but the front man didn't have that stage persona, when Bon came along, the band was complete. The video with the original singer is on TH-cam. I was in a hotel room and someone said how Bon was the first ACDC Front man, I got into an argument with them. They all told me that I was full of it. But it was a hotel that bands stayed at in Bondi and I just rang one of the older crew guys and he confirmed it. Everyone believed that Bon was the first Front man, nope. That was in about 82. The first singer Dave something only lasted a few weeks, maybe a month. I do know that I never heard of him again. Just looked at it, Dave Evans was the first Front man.

This 1980 ensemble is full of deep, dark and mysterious rabbit holes.
The top 5 include Jimmy and Cold Chisel as you would already know....... but also Ian Moss and Don Walker who are both original members of Cold Chisel the “ heavy metal” band that formed about 1973 and included Jimmy’s brother , John Swan , as frontman and singer.
Don Walker wrote most of Cold Chisels songs and was the bands pianist / organist as well as their musical director ...... even when a heavy metal band. lol
Ian was the lead guitarist and 2nd lead singer.
Renee Geyer is another rabbit hole worth worth discovery......but I prefer the older stuff as it much better performance wise than the later videos.
Renee is regarded as Australia’s first lady of soul.......although I believe Wendy Saddington was the original and the best in Australia.
Wendy is another rabbit hole worth exploring but maybe not so deep as she rarely recorded anything....... she was an amateur who mostly filled in for sick and/or absent singers, male and female, and who always blew the audience away with her soulful brilliance....... except in her “ clown “ period when she delighted herself by being too weird for most people’s tastes. lol
Do yourself a favour and sample Wendy Saddington, Wendy’s Song and Motherless Child.......but not the “ clown “ videos..... the others are better, live or promotional videos.
If you like, then explore her videos with Jeff St. John and The CopperWine.
St.John was confined to a wheelchair his entire life but had a big voice..... the concert to be filmed he couldn’t perform , but Wendy filled in , and became the 2nd lead singer for a while...... she was too good to be asked to leave. lol
