As a an old bloke and long term Triumph Stag owner, it is very encouraging to see a younger generation appreciating what is still to many an underrated and much maligned car. A well-sorted Stag is an excellent car. They sound the best, they cruise well, handle well when pushed, and are well supported by the owners club.
I’m 58 Years Old.. I thought my dads Triumph 2000 estate was the last word in practical styling in 1973.. I was 8 years old and then imagine the Sensational and emotional experience on clapping eyes on a Stag.. I was frozen even at eight years old.. It was a classic even when being currently produced, you could just sense it! I waited 40 years to buy a very special original low mileage example and they are Magical
I bought one last month. I didn't know this car before. I was looking for a classic car convertible for 4 Persons. So i found one in Unna one hour away from me. So I Google a lot about this car and thougt, no man too much problems with the engine. But after a while my opinion changed and I drove to Unna and checked this stag. When I saw it and drove it, I knew, this is the car. What should I say, even my wife like it. Now I drove him, his Name is Chester, about 5 times and I love it. The sound, the look (it is yellow, darf yellow, mimosa yellow?) , when the sun hits the car it looks more beautiful. So for me the stag is the end of my search for a classic car. For me it is my dream car. Till the time I found the stag, I would like to have a porsche. But now, forget porsche 😉 wish you all the best and allways safe rides.

Not into flash cars at all but I have one and agree it's the best driving experience possible, it's got mountains of character , loads of history stories opinions , all parts still available , plenty of support, and simple to maintain and fix , thanks for sharing !

Doddle for an idiot like I to fix (usually), running a 2500TC alongside it helped with the running gear. I had a garage with a block and tackle on the roof rafters so that I could remove or replace the hard top single-handed. The car had to go when we moved. They don't like living outside. The dash (like the TC's) is a masterpiece, and is similar to the Series II Daimler that we bought next. I'd love another, but the garage to keep it will cost more than the car and a decade's worth of upkeep and petrol.
I love the dash, not sure my nerves can handle the bouncy speedo though when there are so many cameras around! Thanks for the feedback, I have indeed now got a tripod & cradle for the camera, you'll see its much better in the follow up videos !
Nice video, great to see so much genuine enthusiasm for the car. I had a 1972 MK1 for some years and loved it, manual o/d is the one to have. It's a great engine if cared for, they sound wonderful and performance is quite sprightly if you use o/d 3rd properly!
Yes, as with anything, if you look after it, it'll look after you! I think I have now mastered the o/d - it's great! Struggled to get back into my normal cars after driving this! Thank you for your kind words - I knew I'd love it, but I didn't think for a second I'd love it THIS much! I'll be doing my "normal" cars next, so stay tuned!
@@ninety2automotive The clutchless shifts in and out of overdrive 3rd at full throttle are sooo much fun for over taking and that V8 has a decent rev range as well. By the way, are those rear wing badges on back to front? :)
@@AndyLong-e9u It has an incredible rev range, and I do quite enjoy an overtake in this, we've had some opportunities to get some good ones in. It's been fab, but alas, she's going home Sunday! :(
If you look on TH-cam, you'll find someone doing that, they haven't yet got to the audio part but the rest is um, horrific i'm afraid. Stag is all about the unique engine.
Thank you Jonathan! I was very fortunate, the owner was able to add me to their insurance, so aside from fuel and a good wash, it hasn't cost me anything. I was gutted not to be able to afford the insurance on yours - hopefully you've found someone for it? :)

I know right 😂 as you can tell, I didn't know what I was doing on my first ever video & didn't have a tripod- I do now and the sequel to this when I've edited it, is far, far better from a camera angles point of view 😂

I'm also 58. I was 12 when I went with my dad for a test drive in a Stag in 1976. Dad has since passed away in 2018 and the car is now with me.

The Dash is one of the things I really liked about my Dad's old Triumph TR6. Some steady cam-ery would assist the video.

It is timeless. Someone could make and sell them again as a 500HP EV - with a1000W audio amplifier - playing a recording of the v8.
