    Great vid mate, love it.
I bought my Stag in 93 in Melbourne. I am from WA; but was posted to Melbourne, so used to drive mine Melb to Perth every Xmas for 4 years, cruise around Perth at Xmas - back to Melb 4 weeks later. Always summer, always hot. Being from Perth; if a car can't handle heat, it is no use to me.
Ended up doing 6 return trips like that, one one way relocation trip. Car has been in Perth since mid 2000.
I don't do the interstate trips anymore, and I have had a "newish" car since 2012 to share daily driving, but from 2000 to 2012, Stag and Dolomite Sprint were "go to work" cars.
Mine now goes to the shops regularly (easier to park than my newer car); and always used when the sun is out.
I have had it nearly 30 years, have covered 330,000 kms in it, and I will have it forever, with no plans to get rid of it.
There is no other touring convertible that does what it does for the money, and when I am blasting along the hills roads around here; I am constantly reminded of that.
    Cheers. :-)

Hi KJs581, I actually read your article on a Stag post when I did research, prior to filming this Stag episode. Thank you for your comments. Mechanically, the car I drove was very solid. Regards Damian.

@@channeld1761 Hi there mate. Thanks for the reference, very flattering.
There is a lot of misconceptions/untruths about Stags, and mainly from the initial articles that had a litany of things that were just plain wrong. Those same wrong "facts" were then rehashed every few years even up until now. You can answer each of them with why they just aren't true.............. but once people read "a wrong quote" - they just love to run with it. Half the quotes on the internet are like that.
The basic problem was that BL, who's ability to put cars together by then was waning at best, were used to previous era cars with pushrods/cast iron heads. Giving them a high revving, OHC, alloy head engine of a type that they had NO EXPERIENCE with was like giving a swiss watch to a boilermaker to service. And then wonder why they don't work? They do have their quirks and problems; and after 30 years of being the only one who touches mine, I have found (and seen to) most of them.
But the "gloom and doom" articles? They make them cheaper for us. :-)
      Works for me.
      Cheers. :-)

@@KJs581 Agreed, I was out today an just did some additional filming of the Stag as a classic car buy. A passer by said: I had one of those in the 80's, shit car, ect. When I asked what happened to his Stag?"wife took half in the divorce". The point Im trying to make is : all manufacturers are capable of making "lemons". Allconsumer products are remembered by association. Imagine buying an expesive bottle of Dom Perignon, you take it home expecting to get some love action - your significant other tells you that she/he is leaving to take up residence with the Pool cleaner. I would bet $10 that your memory of the Dom as a product, would not be flatering. Thank again KJs581. Stay tuned and please subscribe!

      @@channeld1761 Exactly mate.
I have had the same every time an old car is posted. Straight away "Oh, loved my old/wish I had kept/worth so much now/best car ever......" And this from people who have NO old cars/have NO plan to get one................ and THEY were the kind of people who COULD NOT WAIT to buy/show off umteenth new car/new gadget.
Your point of "association" is VERY apt. We grew up in those cars. The bare interiors, the high cost, the constant maintenance, ponderous handling, half of them gutless - conveniently forgotten amid the great times we had growing up with them as teens. People remember those good times and associate it with "because the cars were GREAT."
I find people are often very illogical. Most people don't look at facts and then decide something; they "choose to like" THEN assemble the facts that "suit them." For so many, brand loyalty is SOOOO powerful; and once chosen, that "Guru brand" can do no wrong. I have never been that dedicated. If I have a car with a stupid/great feature = it's still stupid/great AFTER I look at who made it/doesn't change it.
I acknowledge that the Stag has some ridiculous quirks and the likes. Same with my Jaguars I have had. For me the good bits/what the car does for me for the price/availability/possibility of me maintaining it FAR outweigh that But each to their own/my choice.
But culture has a lot to do with it. Again, each to their own; but the big two here for years passed off some very pedestrian, very "bare bones" cars under their "bathurst heritage" banner. People watch a limited run V8 car win Bathurst; then buy the basic Belmont version with an underpowered 6 and nothing in it - because they are "now part of the club." The pub culture of half a dozen people just yelling "They aren't xxx - so they are SHIT" was alive and well here; but mostly so in days of yore (60's/70's).
That "choose one - then have to HATE the other" never worked for me. I have had umpteenth Holdens and Fords over the years because they were there; and they were cheap. Like all cars, they both had their good and bad.
But people LOVE a "wrong legend" - and you will not change that. If it sounds good - keep it going. Yamamoto's "sleeping giant" and Churchill's "fighting for the arts"; both ridiculous things they never said that the internet want to argue over all day (and even movies keep going).
But on the "have to keep a wrong legend going" thing. The show "For the love of cars." They rebuilt the Stag with new (mainly original) cooling system parts. Tested it on a rig and found cooling system fine. Nah, can't have that, the "legend says".............. So they go for a drive in a Stag. Middle of a sunny day. They are in idling traffic WITH THE HEADLIGHTS AND HIGH BEAM ON. So, of course, the headlights (that everyone upgrade to higher wattage) while idling flatten the battery. "Oh, and (as per usual); it breaks down!!! Well, it IS a Stag!!!!!" Drive any 70's car at idle with high beam on = flatten battery. They HAD to "perpetuate the false legend" by intentionally disabling the car. THAT is how important the "wrong legend" factor is.
So you won't win. I am expecting (from the gallery) a reply/comment saying "too long/war and peace" because this is the internet. One line abusive/argumentative replies are the go. And that is why truth/the ability to discuss/relate facts are on the decline. And why real knowledge about old cars/bikes will die with our generation. And why I don't share much of what I know about Stag's /old Brit cars/old Brit bikes. Try and help = get abused? No point.
Which is a shame; but it is the way society wants it.
But like I said, keeps them cheap for me.
      Cheers mate. :-)

Great video. Enjoyed it. Stags in UK quickly got a poor reputation because of dealer maintenance issues that led to chronic overheating problems, engine failures. How sad. These cars should have been a world beater. Arguably they paved the way for the success of. The likes of BMW, Mercedes and Audi convertible cars in more recent years. Lovely to see a Stag out on a fine day - a pampered, cherished example will be sure to turn heads whichever end of the planet oft drives!

I used to have a TR4 and the windshield looks similar. But that is where the styling stops. The TR4s and TR6s were boxy and insignificant in design, and unispirational. This, on the other hand, looks like the Aston Martin they never made. I think it looks better than anything Sunbeam, or Austin Healy or MG put out during the same period. I also like how the grille and rear design have symmetry. Just quintessential 1960s-70s design. Too bad they blow head gaskets so often...🤨
