    Great info. and I agree with you on many of the topics you shared. I also agree on the higher costs of the Toyo prices. They are definitely not the cheapest out there but they do a great job as an all around tire that hits many targets. As for the Falken, they were my #1 pic after testing 7 sets of competitors at the test track doing back to back OEM style evaluations. I found an issue with a running compound production change and my #1 went to number # 7. I have heard however, that Falken has since "fixed" the tire so maybe they are much better. Haven't confirmed that test. Anyway, glad you liked the Toyo and I am also a fan of the Toyo RT Trail. This tire is very well matched and linear, with great off-road characteristics.

    Thanks Ty... running Falken AT3Ws, in 295 / 18s on my 2017 F350 CC LB 4WD daily driver. Had Nitto's G2 TG in 285, but since they do not have those available in that size, i bumped to the 295 and updated to Vision 18" wheels. In last 4 months, quiet and smoother ride, running at 58 F / 48 R psi levels. Falken AT3W likely the tire of choice in out years, Toyo a bit $$$. Have a great weekend.

    Good review Tyson. Any of the larger trucks (3/4 1 ton) tend to wear out tires quicker than light duty trucks, but to me knowing they are good in mud and rain means more than a few extra miles in wear.

    I was currently running this these on my Mitsubishi RVR (225/55/R18) this summer until I just switched to my winters (Living in NB Canada so winter tires are a must IMO). They are a little louder over my winters (stud less Toyo G3 ICE same size), slightly quieter but it doesn't bother me because the Open Country tires feel so planted and firm. I drive fast around corners and in general and the Open Country's have just felt great to me. Mind you I was driving the RVR on the stock Nexen tires (gross I know, but I bought it with those on it at 33K km on the car) beforehand. But since this is on a compact SUV / crossover, I'm likely on the out side of the norm running these tires lol

  • @TheOMEGANOX

    Here’s the thing……I know we both want the same thing from a tire, that is the best grip, best durability and best load rating for a one ton diesel SRW pickup that’s towing up to 20k regularly.
    Personally I don’t mess with AT tires anymore because they pack up and become slicks in anything softer than dry grass, I won’t run anything but MT’s anymore. After that I look for a 4080lb per tire load rating, 10 or 12ply and a tread that can be aggressive enough to deal with mud and yet be as quiet as possible on the highway. Today there are more choices that fit that criteria than we used to have. Right now I’m running Yokohama Geolandar X-AT on my 3500 duramax in a 285/75r18 and they are excellent but still more hybrid than actual mud terrain so they suffer in anything soft. So I’m taking them off and selling them to a buddy so I can try the Maxxis RAZR MT next, same size.
    If you run these trucks like we do, you pretty much have to be a “tire enthusiast”. It’s just too damn important not to, that means keeping up with the industry and what manufacturers are doing to keep raising the bar. ✌🏼

    Thanks for the insight, I am looking at another set of tires for my 2500. I've had some toyo MTs for the last 2 years, and they've gone to complete shit with only 20k miles. I'm looking at a set of these next. However, with only 30k miles estimated it's not worth it for 400 usd a tire.

    100% agree!!! Had the Toyos last time, good tire overall, but the Falkens are better im my books, but a bit louder on the road. The big issue of the Toyo is in very cold climates, the turn into hockey pucks, and are extremely difficult to drive on/ in snow if it's too cold. The Falkens seem to be better in this discipline.
    Also, a good friend of mine does towning for a living, he swears on Canadian Tire Cooper Tires LTX or something, he gets around 100k per set on a Chev 2500, but not sure how they perform in general.

    • @Icutmetal
      @Icutmetal ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you referring to the AT3 or AT2? I saw that was a common complaint with the AT2's but reviews seem to suggest that the AT3's are much improved.

    • @galaxyphone7784
      @galaxyphone7784 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Icutmetal it was on AT3's...if that's improved, it's hard to imagine how bad the AT2's must have been...
      Again, just in very cold temperatures, but we have those conditions over several months in our area.
      Also, even my wife noticed a big difference after switching to the Falkens, she likes them way better, especially on gravel and snow.

    I run the Nitto Ridge Grapplers and like them for their look, traction, and quietness on the highway. But they aren't a very high mileage tire. Nitto has a new tire out now called the Recon Grappler which is supposed to be a great work truck tire plus high mileage features. may try these next set. What tire pressures do you run at? I use 60 front and 65 rear empty and 80 rear when towing heavy.

    The AT2 Toyos I wasn't impressed with had them on a heavy 08 F350 srw 4x4 gas pot. They were scary in the snow. My go to tire is Nitto EXO Grappler noisy yes had good luck with them. My boss put Sumitomo Encounter ATs on the 07 GMC 3500HD srw duramax. They are a "cheaper" AT tire. They are a plain looking tire no real curb appeal. The truck pulls a 16 foot 14,000lb trailer that we move the Cat 303.5s on. The tires are wearing quite well I'm really surprised. The dirty max is tuned it can roast the tires pulling the loaded trailer on the hills around here. Some hills gotta put the truck in 4 hi. Tires have become quite expensive many brands especially Nitto seem to be unavailable. If I need tires again I would go with Toyo C/T or M-55

    I just got my set. Definitely a nice tire, but way overpriced for what they are. I won’t buy another set in the future just from seeing what my money bought. I haven’t even mounted them yet…
    I wanted an aggressive a/t, but not something that would howl.
    Like a Mickey Thompson Baja Boss a/t. Those look pretty knobby. Too aggressive.
    Which is why I bought these due to the tread staggering and center tread design.
