November 2023 Colorado Unit 33 Elk Hunt Was the Winter Kill Real?

Elk Hunting Northwest Colorado Unit 33 third rifle season DIY with over-the-counter tags on public land. The elk have been hunted for basically two months by this season so they are on their guard and in their hideouts.
We changed things up this year. Normally we hunt Southwest Colorado but we decided to try a change of scenery. Of course, we weren't counting on the great winter kill of 2022 when we made our choice.
Was the winter kill real? All I can tell you is that in an area that is supposed to have the largest elk herd in the nation, we saw zero elk and very little elk sign. Now, that doesn't mean much as we sometimes just don't find em.
We've been doing this hunt for 27 years and it never has been about the kill. It's about spending time in the mountains with family and good friends. We have a great time. Tell lots of stories. Eat good food. Drink good beer and whiskey. And, sometimes, we kill a few animals.

Yes sir. Quite a few actually. One wall hanger except the guy who saw it was hunting elk so he should still be around.
