I am not even Finnish, but this piece still fills me with a sense of strong emotion, and pride even... I have enormous respect for Sibelius, and the way his work restored hope for Finns in time of darkness.... thumbs up if anyone else feels overwhelmed by this piece and remembers it from childhood!!! (I had a weird childhood!)
I suspect no other melody could express soul of Finland. Anyone who visited this country will certainly agree. Charm of white nights, countless lakes and endless forests has no match anywhere in the world. If I had a choice of country to be born in, it would be Finland.
lintu25 Nii...
As a Finn I liked this version. The original version still exists. Nightwish just just did their version and I can see Jean Sibelius approving the emotional message and the journey which this version highly respects. Finlandia is an inspirational piece of art and that was it's original purpose. To raise hope and look forward. That´s the universal core idea, not how it shoul be played. So thank you Nightwish. This must have been a great opening for the concert.
Finlandia is just beautiful 🇫🇮 Jean Sibelius was a great composer, and again..... Nightwish knows what they're doing with Troy on the Uillian Pipes, so grandiously beautifully played❤🎶🥰 !! 🇫🇮 Gratulations from Norway 🇧🇻
The only thing that annoys me is that, why this isn't our national anthem? Simply one of the most beautiful and powerful song on the finnish music history.
Lovely, I like it. It tells modern peopple to modern way, what is indepency, what is needed to have indepency. To Finnish peopple this album track is almoust blessed.
Every Independence day I listen to this video cuz it's so beautiful version of Finlandia hymn. Happy 106th Independence day Finland my beloved country 💙🤍🎉
@@Valakian3590 This was supposed to be the National Hymn for Finland, but alas it was decided that the current hymn was more appropriate. Nevertheless, this is a musical representation of Finland, and the most patriotic peace of music for us finns 'till the end of time.
Suomi 100 years soon! Words of FInlandia translated: "Finland, behold, your day has now come dawning; Banished is night, its menace gone with light, Larks' song again in morning-brightness ringing, Filling the air to heaven's great height, And morning's glow, night's darkness overcoming; Your day is come, o my native land. O Finland, rise, stand proud, the future facing, Your valiant deeds recalling, once again; O Finland rise, in the world's sight erasing From your fair brows vile slavery's stain. You were not broken by oppressors ruling; Your morn has come, o my native land."
I sang the words and am impressed with your translation! I bet it took a lot of time and thought just to find the right words with the right amount of syllables
This is so nice, i love this song, i love finland, witch is the country where i live, i love sibelius, this is so good song and specially, i love NIGHTWISH
Here's the lyrics of the Finlandia Hymn in Finnish: Oi Suomi, katso, Sinun päiväs koittaa, Yön uhka karkoitettu on jo pois, Ja aamun kiuru kirkkaudessa soittaa Kuin itse taivahan kansi sois. Yön vallat aamun valkeus jo voittaa, Sun päiväs koittaa, oi synnyinmaa. Oi nouse, Suomi, nosta korkealle Pääs seppelöimä suurten muistojen, Oi nouse, Suomi, näytit maailmalle Sa että karkoitit orjuuden Ja ettet taipunut sa sorron alle, On aamus alkanut, synnyinmaa.
Can you Do A Gig in Glasgow,Scotland( soon to be Independent ) the students, would go mental, for your style of music :) love you all. Kind Regards Ken
It was kind of sad, that a very few people knew it in Hungary :( I felt a bit ashamed of them. But i was singing it, while standing in the first line and it became a lifelong memory. :)
I believe that Troy Donockley travels with Nightwish and he plays the uililean(sp is probobly off) pipes which are similar to the bagpipes. They could have a bagpipe recording though. Not sure.
I hope someone will download Nightwish LIVE version from Kuopio Rock Cock 2012. Finlandia, Op. 26 is a symphonic poem by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. The first version was written in 1899, and it was revised in 1900. "Sitä ei ole tarkoitettu laulettavaksi. Sehän on tehty orkesteria varten. Mutta jos maailma tahtoo laulaa, niin ei sille mitään mahda." "It is made to be an instrumental. If people want to sing it, I can´t help it." (Jean Sibelius)
True. I think that every Finnish family have some kind of War history. In fact, almost every Finnish citizens did something to help, the woman made sure our soldiers had Food and such.
@ClareBElsey Once.. I was in my high school age on a trip from my homeland Finland to France to a small village called Taizé where young lutherans gathered to keep in touch. In a meeting we had to say something about our country. They all said something, I sang this song: Finlandia.
It is 6th of December as i leave this comment. It is our independence Day, and we are proud to be finns. The patriotism in Finland might even be stronger than in the U.S.A.. Not to diminish the american patriots, of course in any way. but we finns are proud for our independence that we retained from all invaders. We have a history of survival against persecution. Up until the 1930's in United States finns were considered "mongolians" so we could not marry a white woman. We were called "roundheads", "Swedish chinese" and other derogatory terms. But nobody remembers that persecution back in the "States", because we are white... But we adapted, as we always have, be it nature or government. To my cousins in Houghton, UP Michigan, your home country never forgot you!

Väitän ettei yksikään suomalainen ja hieman edes suomalaista taustaansa tunteva ihminen voi kuunnella tätä ilman kylmiä väreitä.
En mä ainaskaa voinu.. Ja ilman kyyneliä

Varsinkin intin jälkeen alko arvostamaan ko. teosta aivan uudella tavalla.

I love Finnland for giving us Lordi and Nightwish *____*
And many more great metal bands 🖤🤘🏻. Thunderstone, Machine Men, Harmaja, Charon, Tarot etc..😎
@PaulJonkerHoffren As someone already pointed out this *IS* Sibelius' Finlandia. It's just a different kind of arrangement.
Wonderful!!!
I usually don't feel myself as being a finn. This song changes it all.
The Pipes remind me of Scotland!
Troy Donockley, who plays them, is from the UK (Cumbria to be exact).

Actually that was the real deal. I was there. Some of the Finnish fans were crying during this song. =) Including me. =)
@PaulJonkerHoffren ...except the melody, which happens to be Sibelius's Finlandia.
Kiitos.

A true CHERISH to those people in war and to those in home front. Also my kind lost a few lives. No more wars, please.
