  • Pam's Awesome Independent Dental Hygiene Practice!
There are many challenges that come with owning your own business. The financial plan, physical space, and supplies need are just the beginning. Millions of people across this country start a business each year and with the craziness of a pandemic, even more folks were pushed to do so in 2020. According to an article from oberlo.com, "in 2020, 4.35 million new business applications were submitted. It is also a 24.13 percent increase from 2019 and the biggest increase of the past decade by a mile." The dental industry left many caregivers without a job for months and for some, this was the push they needed to switch things up and go solo.
Currently, at least 42 states allow dental hygienists to provide direct access to care without a dentist on-site. Unfortunately, the term "care" could simply mean screenings and providing oral health education. That is a far cry from giving direct services like scaling tartar and removing the biofilm that actually causes oral diseases. Dental hygienists are really at the forefront of finding, preventing, and treating dental/oral diseases and statistics continually prove that we need to do better as a nation at treating these conditions.
Although there are only three states that allow hygienists to work completely independently, a setup like Pam's is a dream for many. We appreciate her taking the time to show us around!

Wow! You’ve got a very nice dental prevention practice! You seem very well organized and efficient in your approach of dental hygiene treatments. May I ask what brand is your microscope? Thanks from Switzerland 🇨🇭☀️

What kid of microscope do you use. I heard that for dental plaque only high contrast microscope is required. What model is that you use?

I love how through you are. However, from am aerosol point of view you have way to many exposed surfaces to clean. I’ve used air polishing in the past and literally everything in the room gets a very thin coating of powder on it. Honestly, the microscope is a waste of time and money. The disclosing solution will be what the patient can relate to.

Interestedin doing the same in my area :) do you work with assistants?

Hi Mazel. I do not utilize an assistant. I’d be happy to chat more about my protocols and I’m a trainer for EMS so I can point you in the right direction if your interested in switching from the traditional scrape and polish. Check out switchtogbt.com.
