- ●I find it hard to believe that this operating system is 10 years old. It certainly still feels modern and has aged pretty well in my opinion. The design of programs hasn't really changed within the last 10 years which is probably the main reason why Windows 8.1 still looks pretty fresh. Windows 8.1 was an improved version of Windows 8, which restored the start button, added a few more start screen customisability options, and enabled users logging into the desktop interface by default. I find it pretty sad that Windows 8.1 has ended support, I think that it's probably the fastest and most optimised version of Windows I've ever used. Anyways, farewell Windows 8.1, 2013 - 2023.

8.1 was the os fastest for any pc and it fixed many problems that were on 8.0 for example no start button and it was more tablet-friendly, but in 8.1 Microsoft fixed some of those problems. And also some people that were on Windows 7 even said that upgrading to 8.1 was a good decision. Goodbye Windows 8.1 (2013-2023) You will be missed and not forgotten.

trigrzolt did a comparison between all versions of Windows from XP to 10, surprisingly, 8.1 did the best, being the fastest OS as not only was it somewhat lighter than 7, but less bloated than 10.
I rember liking windows back in 2020 and I was sad about windows 7 support ended.
Now it’s been 3 years and Windows 8.1 support ended.
And windows 10 will end support in 2025.
What, after two years Windows 10 will be remembered forever.

Man 10 years ago, everyone was talking about the new OS Windows 8.1. It’s weird seeing it end support because it still seems new and recent to me. Honestly it was an underrated OS. Very stable and pretty fast compared to others and the Metro UI isn’t as bad as everyone makes it to be. It pretty much was like Windows 7 but modern. It’s so weird now to think that this OS is old and not modern anymore.

I'd say a solid reason to keep using Windows 8.1 even after support ends it's to have the beast performance, Windows 8 is very optimized and smooth, just making sure you have a solid antivirus and be careful you'll be safe.

I'll miss Windows 8.1 myself as I used to use it around 2013 to 2018/2019 when I was forced to switch to Windows 10 (begrudgingly) due to software requirements of software I have to use.
Still miss using 8.1 as it has been way more stable and fast than 10 is in my experience, early on in 2015 or even in 2018.
I wasn't too put off by the Start Screen as I just used it as a screen of pinned apps like on a mobile device even though I was on a PC.
I found it a bit leaner on GPU resources since Aero of the Vista and 7 days was toned down and became more flat. It's more on the stability and reliability front that I like Windows 8.1.
Maybe I'll setup a VM of the Embedded Industry version and update to the latest so I can keep an image of Windows 8.1 in some form for a time when I need to run software incompatible with Windows 10 and beyond. Or even make a custom ISO with the updates or something haha.

Honestly i miss so much windows 8.1, in 2021 my old Aio with windows 8.1 pro with media center has not been updated for free with windows 10 installer , so... in my first try i tried to install 10 because windows store in 8.1, i was losing applications and utilities, so. in my first try to leave 8.1 and upgrade to windows 10 with the oem key of Windows 8, Windows 10 automatically validated my license of windows stored in the BIOS. Maybe i feel weird because i have thinking that windows 8.1 has been to be a successful product of Microsoft but when I saw that it was a failure, it was even difficult for me since it didn't seem complicated to me and I love its interface
I actually beta tested both Win 8 and 8.1 before they were released. In all honesty, I didn't mind either of them. Were they the best versions of Windows ever? Not even remotely lol. I wouldn't say they were terrible, though. The only reason behind the extreme backlash is because it was designed with tablet interfaces in mind versus desktops and laptops. Plus they took away the classic start menu. So people had to learn an entirely different operating system that they weren't accustomed to. I think it really just boiled down to Windows 8 and 8.1 being ahead of their time. They weren't THAT bad, just unique.

i used to see windows 8.1 as like a gaming operating system because it was a less bloated mess than 10 and 11 and it had more of a mixture of windows 10 and god forbit windows 7 but it ran faster. But now 2 years later from when im posting this comment, windows 8.1 has lost alot of app support

Yeah Idk why chrome ends support for certain operating systems quick. In fact chrome ended support for windows vista before microsoft ended support for the operating system but other wise, rip to windows 8.1.
Don't try Roblox on Old PCS even 2011 PCS I have an old Lenovo laptop Z570 and it has and SSD 450 GB, 8 GB of RAM, core i7 CPU and Nvidia graphics card and when I try to play Roblox is really laggy and when I try to do something on Windows for example like turning up the volume the game crashes so don't try Roblox unless if you want to experience the slowness
And the computer turns to a black screen so you have to force restart
