A Maori girl here.. my grandad was exactly like Jake in the 90s drinking fighting pubs beating on wife & kids... my dad & his siblings broke the child abuse curse & me & my siblings/cousins were never hit growing up but the mental illness & abuse is hard to stop... our people were reckless warriors before colonization thats a reason we made a treaty with the crown & why our people are so raw & ruthless in good ways too but back in the 70s-90s in ugly ways
My cousin was raised in Boulder City. When he passed away, some of our family flew over there, and held a tangi. It was 3 days, he lay in the house with family and friends there. His american friends were actually amazed and grateful for our custom as it helped them through the grieving process.
Bro it's ok to feel empathy and saddened it makes you human 🖤
In real life jake is nothing like that bro he’s a humble n loving person
he had to have alot of counselling after the firsr movie as it just bout distroyed him he is so humble in real life
Apart from the poor guy who tried to help him when the for sale sign on his property was on fire and he smashed him to bits 🤦♀️
Obviously, I’m not attacking Jake as the man behind the character.. I’m attacking the character. Trust me..i know how to seperate the actor from real life. Thank you for watching the movie with me though 💙💯🙌🏽
Yea bro cause he's aqua man's dad😁

Lol
Thank you for your reaction video ♥️
This still very much exists in NZ. My grandmother was in a toxic relationship with alcoholism and abuse, my father was an addict, alcoholic and abusive- he put me in the most horrible situations with his bro’s- there is an uncle Bully in every crew and my sons father was exactly the same- it’s the cycle of abuse & these men were results of abuse too. We all left those men eventually to be the change our children needed but the trauma allowed it to happen (if even for a short period in our lives).
I struggle everyday raising my children as anger is my first response- I fight it everyday as I refuse to subject my children to the darkness I’ve experienced.
Sadly this is the makings of savage colonisation- when the failed to eradicate us as they planned the stripped us of everything including our beautiful culture (my grandmothers era were beaten if they dare embrace anything Maori) they left them with absolutely nothing- some became the animals they treated us as.
It’s improving now that the suppressions have been lifted and we are embracing our beautiful culture again and returning to our truths.
You did great to escape. But in the book, Jake talks about his ancestors being enslaved by other Maori and being teased at school - "the Hekes were slaves". So how would European colonisation have caused his reactions? Also, if colonisation ruined Maori, what about people with Maori heritage who are not like this? The "let's blame everything on colonisation" argument is far too simplistic and can't go on forever. The time comes to make choices of self-responsibility in our lives. Many people, regardless of culture, have trauma in their lives. I do, but I can't keep blaming it for my failures. These days people are encouraged to blame, but it doesn't work.
The disgust when Jake knocked over the pool table guy prob the funniest reaction ive seen in a long time haha
Remember if someone’s acting aggressive in a pub stay away from them lol.
A week is abit extreme it's usually 3days - 4days Max, it's usually immediate family that stay the whole time, everyone else comes and goes, on the day of the burial is when EVERYONE comes. After the burial the party goes hard.
Hes a beast in both these movies he did.. we need more movies like these fam
Mongrel mob has done some bad shit in there early stages but gangs in nz are just the backlash of colonisation. Our people were stomped on and stripped of everything they knew, they were pushed into a white world and where we would usually have our iwi (tribe) some people would find that brother hood in a gang, and with there old school thinking it really was them vs the rest of the world. This is why majority of the gangs in nz are Maori dominated. - Totalllyyy not excusing there behaviour tho
I agree bro being related to mob member
Thats right
Māori warrior culture couldn't be stomped out
bro really walked around the room when he fought at the pool table lmao thats how we all felt lol
I think you are my favorite reactor I've found so far. You're reactions are so raw and honest. Love you're interest in my culture and new Zealand keep it up ☺️👍 kia ora
Thank you for watching with me 💙
Sadly all people of the Polynesian races go through it. Samoans, Tongans, Fijians, Hawaiians. But we outgrow it an learn from our past so that the next generation doesn't follow the mistakes our ancestors made.
No you are absolutely wrong, first of all Tongans we're never colonized, they've gone through nothing compared to the Māoris 🤦
Both movies are good yes it does hit home with both enjoy your reaction & input on the culture
You don't have to stay for a whole week at a funeral bro, you can come pay your respects and leave. Most tangi (funeral) I've been too the max they do is 3 days. Especially if you don't know them you're not obligated to go either.
Agreed bro probably got mixed up with us Polynesians 😂
Love all you're reactions! Looking forward to the next half. Thank you.
Please do a part 2! I'm keen to watch the rest
Thats what happens when the cripps, and bloods get it
@@stevengiraud5859😂😂😂😂😂
It's usually 3days they have the body at home and we do that so that family from outta town or overseas have time to get back and mourn the loved one before they are buried, us maori people are very spiritual so everything is traditionally done that way to help leave the family without that weight of grief, the living farewell them and the ancestors take over so their souls at peace without them worrying about the living and who their leaving behind, nothing worst then dieng unexpectedly and not being able to rest in peace cause your scared how your families gonna deal with your passing, worried that without you hearts are heavy and lives are ruined, maori people love with every inch of their hearts, nothing's half hearted,it's genuine
Thank you bro ! Our culture is very loving ! Under all that !
I watched part 1 and 2 with my son hes 17 this was his first time seeing these movies he thought they were pretty good, thanks for this, respect! 💯
yes please watch the rest really like watching ya reactions keep em coming!!! the best of the movie is yet to come
I highly enjoy that you watched the first movie and continued to watching the second one. In this one you are seeing jake struggle to grow from his experiences and lessons.
How you gonna laugh at his small car? You said it in your first reaction what was he doing with his life other than sitting around being broke and living in a pigs sty.
You still got some life to learn babe, there’s a depth of understanding especially understanding victimization and trauma.
The real was portrayed to perfection through this movie. Us women should just choose our words wisely but we are all built with will power so if a man thinks he can put hands on a woman then he’s no man at all. This movie is also a reminder to our people of how badly societal changes effect a cultures evolution. We all must remember our roots and learn all we can as people about our history and cultures.
I am Hawaiian and our people of Aotearoa experienced a hardship even almost a cultural extinction not by their own doing but by the diseases of addiction. Drugs, alcohol, gangs, rapes, suicides. I have so much pride that the people took back their culture and said they will not be forced to live in this white mans world they come from a background of powerful heritage and warriors. Alcoholism triggered many children to become what society wanted them to be their which was abused by not just a family member that strayed from the teachings and culture but from humanity. Living with a soulless parent was worse than living without. No comparison can be made with jake he was abusive and narcissistic due to his traumas. The only reason the mother could rise from it all is because her family was rooted(grounded) to her culture. Whilst Jake did not have that. The children become a product of the parents it is their faults.
You have the child that gets thrown into the water and they either sink or swim that’s the mentality behind many Polynesians upbringing and sadly our realities and now we just spend all our paychecks on therapy. Lol aloha from Hawaii.
You should watch Broken, a New Zealand film about gang members finding their way back to the right way of life after the death of a loved one
Chur this was filmed in my old stomping grounds. I lived round corner from the house O'Connor street think it was. Pretty active back in 90z in South aucks
You don’t have to go for all days bruh so long as you pay your respects
Alwayz thought it was weird how the Pres of the Snakes is the actor who played Jakes best mate in One were Warriors.
Right? Did the they think we wouldn’t notice?
True life we actually bond bro full of happiness because we get to see whanau from all overseas and the rohe it's a awesome catch up. Just sad we have to come together on sad times..
we changing the narrative my bro for our future generation
You gotta react to the rest brooo, it’s fireeeeeeeee
Hey man, just wanted to let you know I been watching a lot of your videos and I hope soon that you can get that intro fine tuned and dialed in. From New Zealand so I love these reaction videos and I love the Spanian reactions, keep em up
Wdym get it fine tuned and dialed in? Lol please speak american to me
@@Twano2am like having an intro intro instead of you saying to the camera like "whats the word youtube whats the word" but like a video part, pre recorded and edited for the intro
@@tyrant178 yeah i hear you man 💯
My mum and her siblings were brought up similar to this there were parties every weekend at my grandparents house basically the once were warriors lifestyle but with 7 girls and 3 boys. One of my nannies (greataunt shirly) told me my aunties were real pretty as young girls and if it wasnt for her my mum and aunties would have been raped she wouldnt let men in the hallways bedrooms they had to piss outside so she protected them while all the drinking happend. Even though she was a grumpy old lady i always loved her for protecting my mum and aunties ❤ my mum and her siblings changed that cycle im not saying they were perfect but thy always tried the best for us all. our whanau is very close and we alway protect and love our now my cousins and i and my siblings are raising our kids so far from that life our kids dont even know what its like to live like that .❤😊 once we're warriors scared me cause i knew people that lived like that and i would have hated if i was raised that way. Also I'd hate if people thought thats what all maori are actually like.
always drop i like on all your videos that i can brother keep up the grind good2 see u hit dat 10k how we ganna celebrate
Idk yet 🤷🏽♂️🥶…all i know how / what to do is grind 🤷🏽♂️😂💯
@@Twano2am my man thats the mentality my bro. solid!
wat? This even english?
@@jorange4219🤫
The actor that plays the gang leader that shoots tania at the end of the movie is the same actor who played jakes mate in once were warriors (not bully, the other one).
reason behind gang culture - you are definetly right in saying it brings a sense of brotherhood. most of these men in gangs come from tough family backgrounds, have been let down by the people who were meant to protect them the most. it is also mixed with the fact that these men are seen a certain way in society, isolated from society. when you don't have that sense of belonging in the home or in the society you live in, you have to find that elsewhere. gang culture is also born through a mistrust and hate/frustration with authority or the system. they exhibit the same behaviours they have been shown by authority.
our funerals traditionaly go for 3 to 4 days not a week, this gives time for people to pay their respects as some have to travel if they live far away I've seen it go longer on several occasions but those are special requests..
A lot of people joined the mongrel mob for many different reasons
Some join to look cool
Some join because they are born into the gang
Some join out of fear
And some join because they see it as a family
Bro walked around his table like 5 times 🤣🤣🤣
Should react to The Deadlands (NZ MOVIE) You'd love that one shows a lot about the culture Warrior side
Think about the first movie. Imagine you fell asleep between the jukebox scene at the start and the cooking eggs scene and then woke up to the last scene you would think Jake is the hero. Watching this movie helps reconcile your wanting to like Jake while hating his guts. Lovely man in real life.
we dont usually hold bodys for 7 days its like 1 day in mortuary then 3-4 days with family then burial... we dont sit & cry for days we celebrate sing tell stories eat catch up & yeah cry alot
I'm a huge fan of the first film but I could never take this one seriously. I can't remember the book well so maybe this is trying to pick up something from there but regardless, it doesn't align with the first film at all.
Sonny pops into the lineup despite not being in the first film at all. All the other child actors are in this so what, the Hekes just had this extra 6th kid?
Also they recast one of Jake's mates to play the gang leader. Was there really no other actors available?
I understand what ya mean too I’m kiwi but brought up in Australia so when my family dies which hasn’t happened yet luckily and thankfully I gotta go back especially if it were to be my parents, it’d be tough cuz I wasn’t brought up there so the handling of funerals and family and sadness and going back to a place I don’t go often would be pretty intense, such is life tho
Chur bro awesome reaction hopefully you do part 2...
Bro we need part 2!!!
Both amazing movies. Makes you aware of what life is like on the flip side
Most funerals only go for 3days depending on the person who died and the whanau some might be coming back from over seas some can go longer but it’s mostly 3days
Jake the Muss saying " well f..ck off then" to everyone in the whole movie, acting like he never been wrong in his whole life.
Just walking around like a badass with that open shirt, beating people down.
Many years ago i was this angry all the time, fighting people for no reason when I just could have walked away instead and spare me some pain. Because this erratic behaviour ain't gonna lead nowhere but the road of pain, loniless, and heartache. I'm still paying for old sins many years after. And not one second of that erratic behaviour is worth it.
Choose the smart/strong path, walk away if you have the chance to do so
the house with the friend in it that jake goes to is across the road from my school and near the local shop
Tangis are 3 days long,
But if cremated, you can leave the person till morning before moving him/her. Which is 4 days,
They can be held at home or you can take him/her to their marae
But you are NOT allowed to bury people on Sundays, you can wait until Monday.
Anyone and everyone who knows the person can come anytime,
Sonny has a reason as to why he’s acting the way he does lol watching the first one should of given you insight as to why the kids are rebelling against him more than understanding him. However, those who do get it, get it but love the reactions regardless
Chur bro didn’t even know you were doing this one🤙
💯💯💯
Its your WAIRUA...yr spirit u can feel connecting..its humbling to b able to sat bye n b at peace with it for us living..he wasnt mongrel mob..
Māori Wahine speaking..The gang mentioned in the movie is not the mongrel mob, and with the tangis they go for about 4 days.
With a Tangi (maori funeral) it's usually immediate family that will stay the whole time
I've been to a few where I've stayed a night or two then had to leave for the most part they are very understanding if you cant stay the whole time
It is an amazing experience though to care for your own loved ones after passing and being a to really grieve with family and friends around you all eat sleep and support each other
Which I think makes it so special and also makes the disbelief and denial when you lose someone slightly less in my opinion
It's not always sad the whole time either there are some laughs alot of story telling singing etc
To understand it you would have to attend one they are a beautiful ceremony and I think more people should care for and farewell their loved ones that pass away in a similar way :-)
Also sorry for bombing all your NZ videos just appreciate that you have taken such an interest and trying to give you info from my experiences and my opinions :-)
You are fine you can bomb as many videos as you want
While all that's happening in the pub, us kids were outside in the car waiting having a good old time lol . . . And his match was his baby mama lol in the end she won, she got away you need to watch once we're warriors
Theres a part 3 - Jakes long shadow (once were warriors)
The car is an old school Honda civic they were also called a hondamatic:-)
Sometimes they don’t stay in one place some have family all around nz so sometimes they will stay at the house for two days then make there way to the family marae then on the last day coffin closes before the sun comes up
Jake showing off that he can cook now. lmao.
Ayyy churrr cuzz letsssgooo round 2🤣🤣
💙💙💙
aw yaye been looking for a movie t watch
And also I think it is healthy you have to mourn properly and come to piece with it so that it doesn’t stick with you for ever just my opinion
The coin on the pool mean im next. But i honestly in them 90s this was a little thing. But remember its acting
52:48 Why does Jake do that for?
Pls watch Resolve it’s a black power movie its kinda like this movie but based on a true story
😄🤣😂😆just saw your comment after I posted mine Che
It’s a good movie 🔥
The place that Resolve is based on is literally just up the road from me. That would be an awesome movie reaction too...
Do part 2 fo sure
Nah lil bro angry at Jake for the fact that he paid more attention to his alcohol and parties than his own blood, Neg left and joined what he thought would be his family only to set him up for death
The gang leader of the snakes just passed away Rest In Peace Peter Smith
eye 4 an eye leaves entire world blind
When's part 2 coming out
I’m trynna get access to this damn movie so this is all I got….appreciate you Bruh
If you really wanna understand the mob and how/why it is how it is and how it started you need to understand the history of New Zealand, The native Maori people and the tribes and how nz was colonised by europeans.
up the guts in the wop wops lol chur my bro crackup
Being a Maoriin the 80s , this looks more of a club and not a pub where he was use to a pub maclutchee but now banned!so these people in this club no each other and are members of this pub ,so most cases where in a pub ,if u want a game of pool u place a coin on the table above the coin slot,if there is a coin or two already there u place yr coin behind and wait yr turn,as u see in the movie there isn’t a coin so he watched that previous game in his mind he was a up next ,when he seen them start a game and he wasn’t up next after the break of the balls ,he automatically goes in to war like mode ,like he’s taking his land ,but really it’s just natural instincts,on top of problems that just linger
Uncle bully is in alot of American movies and shows now days,
with tangi, we don't necessarily attend for the whole time period, it depends who it was. from my experience, i've only ever stayed for the full time if it is an immediate whānau member, whereas if it someone who I am distantly related to, we will come and pay our respects for a day and then leave. every whānau has different ways of doing things
and when it comes to crying/showing emotion - tangi is not all filled with sadness. i think thats the reason we hold them for such a long period of time. it gives us time to mourn, cry, and grieve and also encapsulates that persons whole life. what we do as a family is sit around a table sharing kai and memories of that person. yes we cry, but we also tell stories and funny memories so we can all laugh and smile. it's truly a beautiful way to see someone off into the afterlife. thank you for showing such curiousity for our culture, and wanting to always learn more about te ao maori x
Your right brother it's a shame alcohol is still our culture today, sad but true, also p Mary Jane. We're working on it so our next generation will better our future, the wahine are now leading and all grace to them 🙏
The whole alcohol in a culture thing is sort of relatable to me. I’m South Asian- Punjabi to be precise and punjabi people (in the UK at least) always had this idea in our culture that if you don’t drink you ain’t a man or you aren’t enjoying life, which leads to deaths of young Asian men or family tragedies as a result of addiction.
The glasses were definitely nasty thoe 😂
In case no one told you, "Crooked Earth" was the best NOT Trilogy but a follow up rounding out your NZ Kiwi movie watching festival.
You're a good person. We don't expect you to get how bad we grew up. We are called "savages" for a reason. Going "Sav" and making it rain and twerking started with us Africans and Islanders.
We were just separated by water. We are called black there, so don't think it's his kids' upbringing. Africans are not as high in population. African American music has its influence on gang life and inspired rap there with my cousins.
In the 90's, everyone cliqued up. It was no different here. We just liked to fight for fun. Yeah, I wasn't allowed out of the house and was arranged with a dowry.
You know I ran... soon as that scholarship dropped.
😂🤣😂
Up dah guts n the wopwops
Wopwops = out in the country/bush/middle of nowhere
😂😂 i know bro i just like making fun of it sometimes bro , i use yall slang in my own way sometimes lol cause i know it makes some people mad
Much Respect bro,
Can you do Maisey Rika who sings Tangaroa...beautiful NZ Maori Artist very well known and liked she won’t disappoint✨✨
Jake played aqua man's dad in the movie.
The must gutwrenching thing about both films is the children paid the price for their parent's inability to be and do better. Sometimes your karma is visited upon the people you love most.
the mob actually were retired servicemen......army etc
Bro this is real iiiish this isn't just a movie Actually most of us grew up in this scenario exposure of the colonists ways we thrived of the land and our culture until muskets alcohol and land snatchers showed up I love all kiwi's but this is what they brought to Aotearoa NZ MANAMAORIMOTUAKENEI
Nice Brother Twano, our people... Polynesians like all things are evolving and creating positive futures well we are trying...
reason why JAC THE MUTTS became mandolin.
Usually our funeral is 3 day
I don't know if you follow star wars but Temuera plays Jango fett who is the bounty hunter that was used to clone all the troopers. His first appearance was in attack of the clones. So there was literally a galaxy full of jake the mus's😂
Kiwi girl here, oh its real alright, and how alot of us are brought up
Kiwi girl lmao 😂😂
If you want to watch something good, from New Zealand, watch whale rider
we all know how to fight in nz bro my grandad was exactly like this . all that abuse gets passed down. we all learn to deal with it and control it.

I know this as " Once we're warriors "
True movie I grew up like this
