Bruh I was an exchange Student in Brazil in the year 2003-2004 when people asked where I'm from I told them NZ and they said oh that's the capital of Australia🤦♀️😭😂but with the amount of kiwis living here in Australia it may aswell be lol
To be fair, Auckland was the capital from 1840-1865. The reason Wellington was chosen for the capital was because its central location, and that if the capital remained in Auckland there was fears that the south island would break away and become its own colony.
New Zealand is the name the british officially gave it when we signed the treaty of waitangi and were colonized, but the original name given by the maori is
"Aoetearoa" pronounced ow - te - ah - row - ah
which translates to "land of the long white cloud" because when maori first discovered NZ all they saw was a giant white cloud that spanned as far as they could see across the land so they named it accordingly.

What’s funny is that as a Kiwi(New Zealander) I spent a big part of my life also thinking that Auckland was the capital so no worries lol
First capital of NZ was Russell and then Auckland before they moved it to Wellington. Reason being that in the old days, it'll take politicians about a month of travel to get to meetings in Russell and 2 weeks to get to Auckland from the bottom of the south island. So dead bang in the middle seem perfect for everyone is my understanding from school lol.

New Zealand is Australia’s little brother, I’m nz born & bred but I have to give the credit when it’s due, no place can ever beat New Zealand’s vibe, diversity and energy - they also have the friendliest people you’ll ever meet, but living wise Australia is a lot more better then nz, Australia offers a lot more opportunities job wise, money wise & even education wise, hence why a lot of kiwis make the move. I moved here a year ago, and as much as I miss home, I’ve never regretted my decision, though some of the people here need to lighten up a little 🥴

That depends where you are living in Australia! In the big city's of course there are more opportunities. Just like there are more opportunities in Auckland, than in other NZ city's. Since Auckland is NZs biggest city! Simaler in size and population to Perth Western Australia. However go to Darwin Hobart or Alice Springs in Australia. And you won't find the same opportunities as in Sydney or Melbourne or Perth! Or even the same prices. Education is much the same! Its relative. Australia has more universities, but they are shared between 25 million people. Whereas proportionately shared between 5 million people. NZ has much the same number of universities! Like wise with economics. You can't just compare 1 country with another. There are variables that have to be factored in. The reality is. Some things are dearer in NZ while other things are cheaper! Likewise some innovations are up and running in NZ ahead of Australia, while others aren't! Innovations are often adopted faster in NZ, because the country has 1 Central - National Government. While Australia has a Federal Government, plus 7 State Governments. With all the additional bureaucratic systems that involves. And Australia has a higher level of national debt, as a percentage of the size of its economy, ie - gross domestic product (gdp). Than NZ does. So comparisons are often swings and roundabouts. In many ways a more relevant measure is to compare NZ with the Australian States. In relative terms, overall its much the same! And i have lived in various places in both countries!
Avoiding the state/ federal system makes govt a lot better. Australia's 6 states is a total mess.... got to be a lot better than the USA dealing with 50 extra governments!!! And they are supposed to be the anti-govt control freedom lovers! WTF?

As a fellow kiwi, theres alot of misunderstandings with our culture and the way we live, we may be one of the newer colonized countries but theres definitely alot more than 10 people in new zealand and how native kiwis ( the maori people ) were treated, my grandmother was beaten by teachers and officers at the time that were part of british colonies into not speaking our native language and also for practicing our culture. Also nelson in new zealand was the first town that was founded by the british and the first ever school was built in the town called wakefield which is just outside of nelson city. Only difference between Australias flag and New Zealands flag is new zealands flag doesnt have the large star.

English Maori is the Native language. Wellington does have a airport but flights from over seas go to Auckland and then they can fly around New Zealand or take a bus or train around the north island. Then if you are in Wellington there is a ferry boat the Blue Bridge that you can get on to go to the South Island.

Auckland traditionally was the main manufacturing and shipping port etc etc. Land was also fought after a lot. So I think strategically placing the capital outside of the area was important at the time. You're right too. Wellington is an artsy cafe-style nightclub sort of place.
