FINALLY...!!! Someone talking about crochets...!!! How sweet to my eyes and ears...!!! Clear information that is hard to look for or it is just me, not knowing how to look for facts online... Thank you so very much for sharing these vital points of interest to anyone who loves to knit and crochet and wants or needs serious advice before buying...!!! Love you...!
Thank you for making this!! Most videos only go over the different sizes, so I was excited to find you comparing different hook materials. Thinking about getting a wooden / bamboo set next. This was very helpful 😊
Thank you so much 😊 so sweet of you to make a video the explain the differences. I am a beginner I have the grey ones, one of the hook is not as easy as the others so I am learning to manage it for now 😄
I have always used Susan Bates inline hooks, but have recently switched to Tulip hooks, which I love. Your plastic hooks are so pretty, it’s a shame they don’t work as well. 💕🌻💕
Thanks, Tuula for your helpful description and opinion on the varies crochet hook. I brought a package of crochet/knit (love to crochet but hate to knit) gadgets. In the package is a aluminum crochet hook in one end with a needle with eye on the other end. It's about 3" long. What is it for and what do I use it. Thank you!
Sounds like a knooking needle. I have a very old video about the technique. It is in Finnish but shows how that hook works th-cam.com/video/54EaC5Rk_bU/w-d-xo.html
I bought a lighted hook. I can’t stand it. It was so bright it started to give me a headache. Awesome idea though! But I bought it off Wish, so they are more than likely made different from a craft store here in the US.
Very beautiful n useful also the video especially for we the biginner👍👍👍👍👍👍 One of the friends recommended me your channel🍀🌿🌱lovely. İ also thank her very much 🍁👍🍀 Thank you very much for your nice sharing 🌿🌷🌱
I just bought one of those ergonomic hooks like the purple one you showed but haven't used it enough to give a full opinion on it. Also I am a brand new crocheter. I did try a plastic one like at the end but found it hard to use as it didn't glide smoothly.
@@hilarysutherland682 I normally check with other yarn that I have of the same weight, just by comparing how thick they are. Most labels suggest the hook size. But also just trying out what looks best when crocheting a certain yarn.
@@hilarysutherland682 I thought I answered this but don't see the answer! The best way is to compare with existing yarn that does have the suggested hook sizes.
hi! do bamboo/wooden hooks glide smoothly and are they comfortable to use? i noticed that wooden ones tend to be inline, which i appreciate because i can’t work with tapered hooks. i want to try susan bates hooks but unfortunately they can be quite pricy in my country, so any input would be appreciated!
Bamboo and wooden hooks vary quite a bit. Some don't slide well if they have no coating but others are drat, easy to use. I have heard of Susan Bates hooks but I haven't seen those.
i accidentally bought a 2.0 mm needle :(( my dad won't allow me to get more stuff so im kind of stumped. what can i make with a really small crochet hooks?
@@happymaows i am an absolute beginner ..and.. I dont know... What m i doing.. But.. I just wanna make creative stuffs with crochet.. Like a handkerchief ..table top... Etc. Sooooo... 4 mm will be ideal.. Right
Depending on where you live, you can order any craft supplies from Amazon. Here's my collection with links www.amazon.com/shop/crochetandknittingwithtuulamaaria?listId=K3LGMJ0TS2VI (affiliate link, doesn't affect the price you pay). Or you may have local online stores if there are no actual stores near-by. Hope you find some!
Could you please tell me the brand name of the Grey crochet hook? The hook you said are plastic coated metal and available in most supermarkets where you live? I live in the USA, and it seems our craft stores are limited to Boye, Susan Bates, and Clover. I purchase most of my knitting and crochet supplies from Amazon, but I can’t seem to find the crochet hook you show in this video. I like the colorful wooden hook you have in this video too. Is that made by Knit Pro?
Here a whole lot of different brands sell those, I checked the around 20 hooks of that type I have. One that sells online worldwide is Novita in Finland, www.novitaknits.com/en/en/tools/novita-crochet-hook . But right now we are having a postal strike that doesn't seem to get sorted out so if they use post instead of UPS or some similar service, it wouldn't be quick.

Yes, learned to both knit and crochet when I was 5 😀

Mam,please make vedio about different materials used for doing crochet work.
eg.wool,cord....
That is a very good idea! It's something I have never talked about on my videos.
Thanks for useful explanation you helped me to identify which hook i need to use.

Everyone crochets a bit differently so it is good to try all different kinds of hooks to find the best ones 😊
So helpful and informative, thanks for the review Tuula.
That was very well explained. Thank you!
Hello, does the size of the hook matter when making a certain crochet pattern? I am an absolute beginner and have no idea
Yes, it matters a lot. The hook should be in proportion to the yarn you are using. Most yarns give a suggestion of what size to use.
@@TuulaMaaria thank you so much.
@@TuulaMaaria I inherited yarn and thread without labels. How can I figure out what hook to use? Thank you

Ooh.. I've been wondering what kind of material the light Grey hooks are of. It makes sense.
The light grey ones are the most common type in Finland, every grocery store sells them. They are metal with a thin plastic coating.
@@TuulaMaaria Same in Norway.
Thank you for the video ❤️
Can you use a latch hook?
Would you ever try resin hooks like Furls or the lighted interchangeable hooks on Amazon?
I haven't tried so far!
Very pleasant and informative :)
Great!
Thanks for sharing this very useful information ☺️

2 mm is good for lace, using thin yarn or thread. But hope you can soon buy a larger one, 4 mm is a great one for many projects.
