Could Kings Dominion Get the S&S Axis Coaster?

- Kings Dominion is a pretty awesome amusement park located in Doswell Virginia. It may not get as much love as parks like Cedar point and Kings Island but nevertheless it's a great place for coaster enthusiasts to hang out and ride some awesome coasters. They have a fantastic coaster collection with them having 2 top notch world class coasters. They have intimidator 305, a world class Intamin giga and twisted timbers an amazing RMC Hybrid. Together these coasters make up one of the best top 2’s any park can have, but believe it or not, back in 2018 Kings dominion’s for a short time had a third world class coaster that put them on the map with a fantastic top 3. That coaster was the ling lost Volcano The Blast Coaster. This was the single most unique coaster I've ever ridden and it was loved by many. Like many of us I was devastated when this coaster was removed, but now that it’s been gone for a while hardly anybody talks about this ride anymore. Instead they talk about what ride could possibly replace it. On this channel I've talked about all sorts of rides that could replace volcano and in fact I've made an entire video on it. But instead in this video i'm going to be focusing on one ride in particular that I think has a really good chance of replacing volcano, and that ride is the brand new S&S Axis coaster. In this video i'm going to be telling you why I think we've been looking at this all wrong and there is a huge possibility that the S&S Axis Coaster will be Volcanos' replacement.

Kings Dominion is a weird park, people say it doesnt get much love yet it has a giga and an RMC. Great video, and I think an axis would make a good replacement

The lineup WAS good that's why people think it doesn't get much love. With volcano gone and anaconda still standing it has fallen a few pegs. But if they can replace the crypt and volcano with some great rides they will be right back up there. Honestly they need to ditch anaconda and if they want to add a wing or dive coaster they can put it there. I mean a wing coaster over water isn't something we've seen yet I do believe.
I can see Virginia being the biggest coaster destination in the world by 2030 with BGW having one of the most solid lineups ever and Kings dominion having the most unique lineup

This is a very good theory! One coaster flips you vertically. The other flips you horizontally. Also, I like the new green track!

I agree I dont want to see a dive or wing coaster unless the dive coaster is like hangtime or the wing coaster launches like one at holiday world. The axis coaster would be my #1 option though.

Canada’s wonderland has already filled that spot. Kings dominion is like six flags New England.
I have so many ideas for the Axis coaster. One of my first ideas after it was announced, was For Kings Dominion to have an invert load station that blast straight out then up 90 degrees out of a volcano structure. Volcano XLC would pay homage to both Volcano: The Blast Coaster and Hypersonic XLC. The only thing is that I never thought that a volcano belonged in a Safari section. It would be cool if they redid the area to a Hawaiian or Polynesian theme. But I don't see it now that the Freespin is looking to be a sure thing

The freespin track onsite has a lot of straight track so I wonder if it's a custom layout that's bigger

I really don’t think this is all too likely, more so than most other possibilities, but replacing a prototype launch with another prototype launch doesn’t really seem like something that would happen especially noting the track records of the other two. I’d say if KD gets an axis coaster it’ll likely be farther into the future. However it does make as much sense for a volcano replacement as anything else does, and it’s really impossible to actually tell what’s coming next, so who actually knows.
And hypersonic was a prototype launch that did terrible lol
They already broke the record for having the most launched be Coasters so why not add to it?
Max Hagenauer I’m not entirely sure where you got that from.. Kings Dominion currently only has three launch coasters.
@@ukiarcticfox I ment in the past, there old coasters and there onces they have now add up to be the most launched coasters that a park has had.
Max Hagenauer that basically means nothing, if anything the failure of their Intamin and S&S launch prototype rides makes them less likely to get a S&S launch prototype ride. Sure, they both were received well, but they both were maintenance nightmares which makes another prototype unlikely.
This probably won't happen, but it could have KD end up with four new coasters in this decade:
1: The free spin is already here, so that's that.
2: A B&M Wing or Invert replaces Volcano in the years from 2023-2024
3: The Axis replaces Anaconda sometime from 2024-2027
4: A GCI wooden coaster replaces Dinos Alive. There's enough space for a small woodie, and KD needs a modern wooden coaster. 2027-2029
They Should Resurrect Volcano by turning it into a Axis Coaster. But with a new mountain design

I think they could get a Steel Curtain clone. Steel Curtain is on flat ground, it’s clearly meant to be cloned. And getting a clone makes it cheaper because they don’t need to do the design. And it would give them the hyper/giga combo that Cedar Fair loves without being similar to Apollo’s Charriot in any way. And for marketing, they could claim the first inversion is minimally taller than Steel Curtain’s where no one will fact check them on it (ie like what Shellraiser did. And not for 1 second do I believe it’s steeper than Takabisha), so they can claim “world’s tallest inversion”, “most inversions in Virginia”, “tallest coaster with inversions in the US”, and “fastest coaster with inversions in the US”, all easy to market.
I think Kennywood should get the axis. The have a good relationship with S and S . They also don’t have an invert in their lineup.

It all makes sense, but I personally think it would be more likely that they do the package deal but with coasters similar to Steel Curtain, with one for KD and a 15 inversion machine for Cedar Point

Nice video! I can see KD eventually getting an Axis Coaster but not anytime soon, if at all. It won't come until 2023 at the earliest probably a couple years later IMO. A lot of things can change in a very short period of time however, so we'll just have to wait and see!
The packaged deal you were talking about is usually a buy in bulk deal. Like if they were to buy 2 free spins then they could get a discounted axis coaster. I think another cedar fair park will get a free spin
Hopefully! Kings Dominion is a few hours from me and we're probably going to go to bgt and Kings Dominion after this is all over. we are also going to go the great adventure (my home park) and hershey!
I got season passes to Hershey this year and just rode Candymonium last week. It was awesome!!!! It’s a floater airtime machine!

I've heard thru the grapevine that king's island will be getting one of these where Vortex stood. It would make sense since arrow was bought by s & s and both the original bat and vortex were experimental coasters upon their unveiling.

The saddest part of CF underrating Kong’s Dominion is that it’s their largest property at 400 acres. They also could recant a lot of the park even more to compete with BGW.

I honestly think there's a good chance it could end up being something more along the lines of Steel Curtain. It would make sense seeing as how the park doesn't really have anything like that (unless you count Anaconda), and even a 7 inversion coaster would be the most in Virginia.
My other prediction, regardless of what coaster type it ends up being, is that the coaster will have an amazingly similar theme to Orion, since the 4D Free Spin is going to be part of Safari Village & that empty plot of land where Volcano was is conveniently located right next to Flight of Fear.
As a resident of Virginia, I believe Busch Gardens will always be the better park. While KD does have some very thrilling rides, Busch Gardens has some thrilling rides but also gives attention to storytelling and theming (as shown in rides like Verbolten). While KD has thrilling rides, the experience Busch Gardens provides with the extensive storytelling and theming will always make them #1 in my book.

I love the look of the Axis coaster. I hope I get to ride one some time. I live about 2 1/2 hours from KD. So, maybe.

Awesome video! This would be a dream replacement for most enthusiasts and I think an Axis could certainly replace Volcano.
I would love it if they incorporated a launch and if no other launched axis coaster had been made perhaps they could call it the world’s first launched Axis Coaster or 4D coaster assuming another launched Axis hasn’t been built yet.

I've never been to the States, but when I go there in a few years... I will visit Cedar Point, Kings Dominion, Busch gardens Williamsburg and all of the parks in the Orlando area! If this is a nice trip, I will visit California, Texas, Carolina and Canada the following year! Sxis coaster will also fit very well themed parks in Europe, as Vekoma is also owned by S&S Sansei and based in the Netherlands, where I live ;-)
I'm kind of leaning toward Six Flags getting 1st S&S Axis coaster. Could see Six Flags Over Georgia or Six Flags Magic Mountain being in line for 1st Axis coaster, if not a different Six Flags park.

Would love to see the new 4D FreeSpin coaster's name for 2021 at Kings Dominion but I would NOT be surprised if Kings Dominion will plan to put the new picture of the 4D FreeSpin coaster on the new bottles for 2021....That would be good for everyone at KD.

I've been wondering if this is what Adventureland here in Iowa is doing. The timing of everything and taking out one of the most iconic rides without any warning just makes me wonder. I bet Adventureland will see an axis coaster within the next few years.
This would be a great addition to the park. It would be even better if they got a compressed air launch version (like the prototype) instead of the lift hill like in the animation. The return of the S&S air launch at KD! Hahaha.

Only concern would be how it would use the space. Volcano's plot of land was massive and the axis coaster seen in the animations looks like it takes up as much space as an rmc raptor or an s&s freespin...

idk, i think an air launch (a normal one, axis would be cool, but i dont think it could be up to spec in the acceleration catagorey). if they could get away with beating do-dodonpa's acceleration, that would be huge for that park. and obvi it would serve as a worthy launch coaster replacement to volcano, which, personally, was ony of my favorite parts of it. they could also tie in some sort of XLC thing to it too. idk if they would want to tho lmao. this is out there but, after riding maxx quite a bit last year, it think a normal air launch would be better than an axis.

As great as it would be to have an Axis coaster at Kings Dominion, I feel it won't happen any time soon, if at all. Kings Dominion recently announced they will be remaining closed for the rest of the 2020 season which does not look good for the park as a whole and imply it's struggling badly. With the pandemic and the recession along with it, I am unsure Cedar Fair wants to invest the money into a struggling park to give it a new attraction. Just my theory though.
I do not see any parks or chains getting a Axis coaster. Reliability is the big factor here. It looks complicated and definitely looks like a maintenance nightmare.
Pretty sure it's surprisingly simple under the hood, like a variable magnetic brake or something. But about maintenance...

A non US park I would love to get an Axis is Blackpool Pleasure Beach to replace Infusion. It seems that it can have a small footprint (essential as there is no room for expansion) and would remove a painful ride,.

The Coaster Josh it being my home park is giving me bias but they’re not against big ideas. Valhalla being one of them and that’s up there with the best dark/water ride.

Why would KD be restricted in budget when approaching B&M, but then have money to throw around and end up with two different coasters when working with S&S?

9:30 I don't think the 4D competes with Pantheon, Pantheon competes with TTimbers. The 4D competes against Tempesto (2015).
Do you know why Cedar Fair has never installed a 4D coaster like X2? Or why any other American park hasn't? I get why parks didn't install one right after the opening of X as it bankrupted Arrow, but now that 2 more have been built in Asia, it seems a little strange that no other American park has built one seeing they are so popular? Is it just too big and too polarising as you either hate it or love it?

It used to be Kings Dominion but I just moved to FL, so now it's Busch Gardens Tampa.
The axis track is not square/boxy. The track in the parking lot looks like freespin.

The park has already got bitten by an S&S prototype ride. This one looks far more promising though and as long as they don't buy it straight from the testing facility.

I will say this that I don't think that they'll be any building of coasters this year for sure and probably next year as the theme park just don't have the money in 20-22 if they survive then we might see some new roller coasters being built but until then it's all just wishful thinking I'm afraid in my opinion

might be an unpopular opinion but the bgw giga shuttle coaster looks so dumb to me
What we're all missing here is the fact that VOLCANO was REMOVED! I understand their "reasoning" behind it with the maintenance, but with such a unique coaster and fan favorite, you put more effort and creativity to make it work. I'm an engineer and I feel their was still room for thinking. I can almost say the same for Hypersonic XLC. If KD just waited and didn't buy the actual prototype, I truly feel it would still be operating at the park. I've been fortunate enough to have ridden both of these and those along with their current lineup and adding another unique coaster in the next 2-3 years is where the park would truly be a destination park for most.
I would have to say a definite no on this going to kings island any time soon because I don't think cedar fair wants to make the same mistake twice with cedarpoints new ride budget because cedar fair waisted cedarpoints 2020 ride budget on the dive coaster at Canada's wonderland and the very horibly designed Orion at kings island Wich they could have taken another year to design but every one desieded to be pushy about Orion saying we want it now cause you all didn't want them to take the time needed to design an awesome coaster of what Orion could have been Soo if all of you complain about Orion just be happy with what you got for being pushy about it let cedar fair take there time in designing coasters and have some patients good things happen when you are patient Soo chill out Every one and wait
