After watching folks planting bulb lawns and having recently gotten the 7 inch auger, I put myself to work making a bulb mosaic. Instead of planting willy-nilly I planted a grid. Dutch master daffodils, grape muscari, ballerina tulips and queen of the night. 25 holesin a line 1 direction and until I ran out of bulbs. I blanted over 2000 of that mix each 1 getting its own 7 inch hole and then filling each hole with 1 type of bulb then repeating. I'm hoping for the best. I did this in a newly planted orchard. All the fruit tree's have imperial fritillaria planted around them as well. All new, can't wait until spring. Have you ever heard of anyone else doing such a thing?

I’m in Southern California, we have Lemon, Lime and Orange trees, some years we get so many fruits, that we juice them all into ice cube trays then transfer them to the ice cream storage boxes and have fresh juice cubes all year long. This year we don’t have as manny lemons and oranges as we cut back both trees significantly last year after harvest, which is usually around December or January.

My little town of Fremont in Eastern NC, is known as the Daffodil Town. We even have a Daffodil Festival in late March. No one ever digs and stores their bulbs. We just leave them in the ground and cut back the foliage after it has completely died back. I've noticed on the ColorBlends website that there are many varieties of Daffodil that are not rated for our zone 8a. So maybe the varieties that thrive in the South don't need as much cold? Daffodils have always been my favorite and remind me of both of my grandmothers, whose yards were full of beautiful Daffodils every spring.

I’m just over the state line in Butler TN and planted 1200 daffodils the first year we bought our house. The ones in the lower meadow have thrived, but sadly we must get too much rain in the spring because the ones in the upper yard have severely dwindled over the past few years. 😞 Thanks for sharing that info so I can run over to see them in your town next year!! ETA - do I have the right town? What came up on map app is central NC north of Goldsboro?

Earlier this year, I was trying to think of a good fundraiser for a charity I work with and thought if our members donated excess dahlia tubers, we might have enough to create nice collections to sell. That was impractical for our small group, but have you considered allowing one of your local charities to send members to dig and collect some of your bulbs and/or tubers for a fundraiser.? You have such gorgeous varieties; I bet people would love to buy a collection, especially for a good cause!

You could plant a few drifts of daffs out in the dirt land or on the new berm on the new property, even if you eventually remove them.

I can't wait to see all the beautiful color in a few months. The dreary days of winter and you will have glorious blooms. Have a blessed day everyone. Also, love the deep blue ornaments your Mom found for you. She is the best.

Loved this video! Makes me so excited for spring! Two things: 1) did you build your tables in the greenhouse or purchase them? If you built them is there a video on that project? 2) video request for more winter sowing of perennials I’m a new homeowner trying to beautify my sad yard on a budget so trying to start lots of great plants from seed! Love your videos have a happy thanksgiving!

Good morning Laura! It will be exciting to see all the colors in January! Just an idea, try using nail polish remover to clean off all the garden markers of old writing. It should take it right off. Hugs from N.C..❤

Agree about Russell! He actually turned me into a cat lover after 60 years of thinking I didn't like them. Such a sweetie! I even like feisty Douglas. A complete 180.

I watch a TH-camr in Positano Italy and they have an arbor under their lemon tree and the branches lay on the arbor and the lemons hang below but still overhead if your walking. Seems like the perfect solution for all those heavily loaded branches.

I have a 4-5 year old lemon tree and it does the same thing every fall when I take it inside....leaves yellow and drop. I think it's just a seasonal thing since the plant seems fine otherwise. I fertilize it with Espoma Citrus Tone. One year it almost totally defoliated but it flourished again once put outside for the summer. Mine is loaded with lemons too. I would never have tried to grow a lemon tree if it wasn't for you Laura.🙂

The pond and stream area would be magical in the spring with some tulips and daffodils popping up in a few places.

😂 I have the same problem with cutting flowers as they look so good and you want the border to look good. That is why a small cutting garden in an area nestled behind other things that you don’t see until you are there is the best. Hidden then it doesn’t matter if you cut all the flowers off!

Laura, I love how you commit to a project. The tulip planting appears to be an exercise in tedium, but we ALL pray for a glorious pay off. The greenhouse will be beautiful lined with tulips. I live in coastal NC , zone 8b, and our environment isn’t favorable for tulip growing so I always. Live vicariously through your efforts.

I loove to see this project! It will be so interesting to see how it works! Question: 1 Are you going to keep the varieties that come back and bloom and do the same thing again? Or what is the plan ahead? 2 Why don’t you put some of the bulbs in the ground in other parts of the garden? The Delnashaugh for instance would look gorgeous almost anywhere with your other spring bloomers! I fell in love with it and managed to find One nursery here that had them. So I have dug them down in my garden and look so much forward to see them irl! Thank You for an amazing Chanel I have learned so much new things even though I have gardened for a long long time! Lots of love from Sweden 🇸🇪 and Florida 🇺🇸
