I have each of the 4 Lindell strips that PA offers and I like this one best. I was able to do a side by side with the UAD and didn't hear a diff. I prefer the expander to the gate, sounds smoother/ more natural to me.
'appy nu-yeah guy's! i love this plugin, had been neglecting it for a while but the gate and overall sound qualities are amazing. recently been using lindell 50 and red rock's punch on fast jungle breaks ! 👍
My favourite API too. But, oh, there must be an update available as mine has only the normal API style knobs, or maybe I’m just blind 🤔 Happy New Cheers mates - kippis uudelle vuodelle, kaverit!
Your reviews are really good but it would be nice to hear some examples of the sound when you tested it, yeah I get it, more work, more time editing, just sayin tho.. Also, have you been making sure Dan has a cup of coffee before the show, nice to see him half awake
@@truegent68 There's lots of audio demos already online....it's way more useful to you to just download the demo and hear for yourself...👍 Combining audio with usability and workflow tests on your own system far out plays a demo by us...
I love this plugin and yes it sounds as good as the API vision channel. Have you all reviewed the Lindell 80 series channel strip? If not, I’d definitely check it out
I teach a 1 week class every year to high school students at my studios (tax write off) and I basically explain to them that an expander is just a soft knee gate, which would be a better, and more accurate name for it but whoever came up with the name expander really overthought the name of that tool. LOL Cheers fellas!
I only paid £40 on sale for the UAD version on native, they're being quite good with their sales recently. Cheers guys but what was the rumour/news? 😂😂😂
just a little bit lighter on cpu than UAD vision, but that might be lower upsampling which is configurable in the Lindell, but always 2x sample rate on UAD (i think). So you can put these on every channel without fretting, yes! UAD API vision in Luna as an extension (so you can see them on screen all at once like a proper desk) is amazing, also can stack these without worrying as the Luna extensions don’t have the same amount of cpu overhead as VST. You just can’t loose either way (unless you want to notch a narrow band lol!)
Great Video & I used this plugin until I bought Acustica's Pink 4. It's an amazing API & one of there best suit in general. Would love to hear your opinion one day 😁
I have a love/hate relationship with AA. They are doing good work with taking plugins to the next level, but the CPU hit, the storage hit and lag when dialing in things is a downer. I have Pink4 and can say it sounds great but PA is pretty close and you won’t be killing your cpu if running them across your whole mix.
I’m a pretty big fan of gates no “a fence” but I love dialing my gates to perfection on whatever I use them on….the one I can’t stand though is Bill Gates.
I have this and do use it occasionally although I'm not much into channel strips since I don't come from an analogue background. However, I especially like the fact this has a compressor make up gain so you can pop the compressor in and out and see what it's doing without any gain changes. Something the SSL channel strips don't have since I guess it wasn't on the desk.
@@Harrysound yup, but the auto-gain doesn't work very well. It's kind of an approximation but is normally many db out. I've got 2 of the brainworx ones and 2 of the SSL ones and there's always a pretty sizeable volume shift if you bring the compressor in and out. It won't bother some people but I like to be able to bring a compressor in and out and really hear what it's doing
@@bigstewdioagreed. It certainly isn’t working how I expect it. Over using the compressor will overload the output on the plugin. Maybe it’s just broken.
@@Harrysound tbh every compressor I have with auto-gain, not just the SSL channel strips, struggle to get it right so I think it's just something which is too difficult to do automatically. I don't mind....but for the channel strips where you have modules that you can turn on and off I like a makeup gain control in there
@ I have way too many plugins like everyone else and I do have a few that handle it just fine. The auto gain was only added fairly recently, maybe they will do something about it one day. I have been thinking recently that it would be really nice to have the DAW do auto gain for either particular inserts or all inserts on a channel. After all, it only has to match what’s going in to what’s coming out AMIRITE?
Awesome! I've never tried the UAD one but from demos I've heard online, I didn't hear a difference. Lindell makes a ton of great plugins that just work. I love how you can set it to not stepped. Also you didn't show how you can set OS up to 16X & clipping variables. Wonder why your knobs look round while my version has the typical API shape. I think I have the latest version. I like those better...lol.
Is 'Dynamic Range Expansion' or DR Compression really strange to folks? I've been doing this so long compression & expansion, or hell companders even, are second nature. On that note, fwiw, I heard someone recently describe an expander like pulling the fader down, and a gate like hitting the mute button. Expanders turn the signal down. Mutes cut the signal off. Keep em comin'
So if you have the UAD API Vision, it wouldn't really be worth getting this ? I paid 30 dollars for the UAD version. (on a par with the waves one ? You said UAD before lolol someone been for a pub lunch, and Dan remembering THD, I feel like im on the wrong channel LOL)
A tasty bit of kit if I say so myself, as another fan of Lindell's suite of plugins, Congrats on smashing 7 LARGE. All the best fellas
Cheers 🍻👍

My best purchase yet. Got it on special for 9,99$ I loved it so much i bought a outboard compressor from Lindell after.
