    Tom’s spot on.
    The squad/mgmt aren’t gonna say anything other than “we believe in ourselves and if we get a complete performance we can win”. No matter who we playing. The problem for us is we rarely ever get that complete performance 😂
    Also right in that we are a bit, for want of a better word, soft. We struggle most against SA and Ireland and those 2 teams are more physical and streetwise around the breakdown than others.
    Said it for last couple years that we play some nice stuff but up front we lack that bit of dog and mental toughness.
    Massive respect for the Irish team but this false narrative of Scottish arrogance winds us up because we know it’s not true, and in turn makes us snap back (on social media). I wish we believed in ourselves more and showed some real grit when it matters - we’ve done so against most other teams and laid to rest a few hoodoo’s and I think we’ll lay the Irish one to rest eventually, but not this Saturday.

    • @YoutubeStandardLicense
      @YoutubeStandardLicense ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's funny because the narrative around ireland for years was that we were too soft especially the forwards and you know what? It was bang on accurate. Scotland are soft these days in the forwards, they don't have that dog edge. Gray, Gilchrist, Watson, Fagerson and Richie are fine rugby players but they are a bit naive. The softness in rugby, isn't cowardice or fear, its lack of guile, edge and cynicism.

    Every time there's a match between Ireland and Scotland, BEFORE the match, EVERY Irish Pundit (including those based in Scotland) will spend the week warning about how "Scotland are a dangerous team" and how "Ireland will be lucky to come away with a win".
    After the match, when Ireland hand the Scots their usual drubbing, the SAME "Talking heads" who were preaching doom and gloom days previously, will come out talking about how "Poor" Scotland ALWAYS are and be critical that Ireland didn't beat them by a larger margin....

Just when we were making a recovery and were on the up and Scotland mightn't have been so strong, our hopes would rise only to be dashed by Scotland. The thing I love most about the Andy Farrell setup is that the majority of the talk from the players and coaches is that focus is on the next game, it’s not about doing this this and this to be grand slam champions with a perfect score etc when the competition hasn’t even started it’s, ok here’s our goal but the focus is on beating wales etc. Its the fans job to get carried away and go on about how they’re going to win everything blah blah blah.

    • @joemartin4751
      @joemartin4751 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. From my perspective in England the rise of Ireland has coincided - among other things - with getting rid of viewing England as the bete noire, where beating them made a successful season even if other matches were lost. Now each game is prepared for with the utmost focus and respect it deserves, and then they move onto the next one and so on.

He was spitting feathers about it and accused the SRU, of what I can’t remember, maybe “poor sportsmanship”. And then there was an incident with Heaslip at RWC 2019 DRAW, where when asked about the pool he quaffed about playing the Scots. There’s probably more, but it’s enough to fuel Scotland for this game. It’s going to be a cracker!
