Pu-erh tea, little studied, I prepare and research pu-erh tea, and I can say that excellent deep fermentation teas are worth developing this segment of the tea market.
i think it cant be cold if you age raw pu erh. thats why you cant age pu erh so good in the west, you need the sub tropical conditions. moist air and warmth
@@bettinawomack8280 Here's two you can't go wrong. Both West Coast-based: jessesteahouse.com/ and www.banateacompany.com/ Both have great Pu-erh selections in all price ranges. Both of the proprietors regularly travel to Yunnan to source their tea.
5:00 Pu'erh is a distinctive flavour. There is a modern method that is far worse: a method I fear has turned off more tea drinkers in the recent Cha renaissance. I became interested in the style to see about the immune benefits(likely placebo, with a touch of possible science as with the Tibetans that used the teas for the minerals, flavanoids, compounds... Deficiency prevention is immune benefit?). A tip to share is I blended the Pu'erh with other teas till I became accustomed to the flavour. * Also making tea 'Gong Fu' Style. A traditional style that clashes with the Western. Large portions of tea leaves steeped for short periods, multiple times. I cannot imagine what Pu'erh steeped for 2 minutes would be like?
I understand those who love this tea but for my money, and my palate, I prefer 白茶，绿茶，and 黄茶 (white, green and yellow teas). I feel that the others carry too much snob appeal for this rustic Daoist. :D
Puer isn't the only 黑茶 heicha. There is also Liu bao and fuzhuan which I think is from hunan or hubei or something. I love the ending when he says "see you next time on another episode of.." It always makes me think of Dragonball Z lol
Hey man!!! You're stealing my thunder!! I had Liubao tea all queued up for Episode 20...and even mentioned its relationship to Pu-erh....and that it's a 黑茶....and that it's said Pu-erh's 涡堆 process actually came from the tea masters of Liubao. Yeah, I've been using that same old sign-off since 2010....Can't say I ever watched Dragonball Z but I bought a ton of Dragonball Z cards, videos and merch for my son. Thanks D, as always! I loved your Chinese philosophy multiple part cast and I'm currently going thru the imperial dynasty one from xia to Qing.. Great stuff!
King of teas? But with 'unique' flavour, I agree. Very unique. The worst tea I ever drank. But, well, it's all a matter of taste ... er ... preference. (Edit: Just remembered, there is also yak butter tea, which is close competition. But since it's not only tea, I'm not sure it counts.)
xishangbana is actually a thai sentence sip song panna - 12 paddy fields. How did a group of thai people ended up so far north east - but a new topic to research hey?
@@ChinaHistoryPodcast I suspect Thai and Tai mean the same thing just pronounced and spelt differently, there are videos on xishangbana and if you observe the building architecture they are almost same as in thailand. There's a wikipedia page on the place but few details on the history.

It counts.....Yeah, the first few times I tried Pu-erh I thought the same thing. Who could possibly enjoy this stuff?
