Here are answers to some of the FAQs on this video: 1. Yes I did ask the store to turn down their music just a little as there were just a few people in there but they said no. 2. Yes its pretty expensive but it did seem cheaper at the time because whenever I'm traveling it just feels like the money isn't quite real...weird I know. ALSO most people only eat one or two of these things lol. 3. I have already left Hong Kong and will be visiting Korea next :-)
every restaurant is like this in Hong Kong, almost ridiculous pricing... but the rent is too high for any restaurant pulling the market price of food up like hell. 88$ is considered cheap, but yea too expensive for a damage small-medium sized burger
HK is pricey. Last time my bf n I went to this super famous Yumcha place, we didn't eat a huge amount and spend 700. That's 350 HK each... Ehh for one meal. Auckland Yumcha is decent and cheaper for sure.
Mikey, suggestion: next time if you're filming with people in the background, put a sign next to the camera that says "SMILE! you gonna be on TH-cam worldwide!"
I managed a Chinese restaurant for 7 years, I put hot oil on everything too, and I am not Asian! I also love hot mustard! hot oil makes everything better!
Awesome Video Mike! If you're still in HK, consider linking up with ThatFoodCray, aka Nicole Fung. She's a food blogger out there. The resulting collabo video would be epic.
I always get distracted by people on the background 😂 in anyone's video where there is a person thats just keeps looking at the camera and think "what the heck is he/she doing" 😂😂😂
Awesome video man. Good insights to some foods I know of but not yet tried myself. Wish I had more time in HK also August when I was deployed for a short port visit. Seeing this makes me realize how much more I had yet to experience! Where are you residing now?
Great video...wish I can go there. Some of that food looked great. As for the music being too loud, try here in Florida, where the customers AND the servers invariably get increidebly drunk and/or high. Kind of kills a good cut of filet mignon, or off the boat grouper...LOL!
The whole cultural sharing thing seems to work both ways - just as we in the West incorporate traditional Eastern ingredients into our local cooking, so too vice versa. Szechuan mayonnaise, Brussels sprouts with fish sauce caramel? Sounds like a feast of new flavors! I don't travel, but if I did, it would be to eventually taste every single flavor possibility before I die. P.S. Lamb tartare sounds very tasty and difficult to find elsewhere.
HK milk tea with coffee caramel = yin yang milk tea!....I dunno why but I could taste the flavor of the clam broth lol...and that chicken looks super crispy!
That looks so good, all of it. Truffle fries, don't even want to know how much that is. $12 US is steep for a bao or burger, but this is hipster style I guess, which is always pricy. A side dish would make the cost easier to take. Great review... So hungry now.
Unrelated question for you, Mike: What are some tried-and-true Asian foods you should eat when you have a cold? Chicken noodle soup is doing nothing for me right now! I'd love your suggestions, please. What do Chinese mothers typically cook when their kids are sick?
hi I just heard about a certain item and I was wondering if you ever tried it or know about it it's called Boy urine eggs yes it's really called boy urine eggs have you ever tried them or know why they're made that way what the history is is of it? supposedly it takes all day to make and I was wondering why it's made what the history is of it? Thank you
Just letting you know. As long as you don’t play the whole song without speaking, you’ll be fine. It’s how the news radio station can play certain songs. They talk over it and don’t play the whole thing :3
This is Hong Kong. This Bao is a delicious, tasty buns a little. Bao is determined by the buns. If the buns are delicious, the contents are roughly OK. How about? Thank you very much.
That's expensive and the service costs isn't added yet. It's not even a "real" restaurant, but more a bar. But I see this place is in HK Island, no wonder. Better stay in the New Territories. Even though it's delicious, but there are so many restaurants in HK to choose from.
you look like an incredible nice guy to hang out with. If you ever travel to the Netherlands, give me a hollar. I'll share you some dishes you have to try.
Was it at Mekong Baby, Big fish or That place in Mt Albert? None of them are that upmarket lol. And the priciest one is only 10 NZ. That's 7 US? I think paying 12 US is way overboard though.
Lily G I can't remember the name, not Mekong Baby. It's on The Lane, Ponsonby Central, and in this little area like Auckland's poshest food court right next to Burger Burger (I remember that name because it is worth remembering). It was $12NZD, in my books this is wayyyy too expensive for this little bun of disappointment let alone 12US.
Hey Mike! We've been big fans of you for a while now. My girlfriend and I are taking a little vacation to Hong Kong in about a month. I really want to surprise her with a nice date. Can you recommend any good places to go out for a memorable dinner? Also money is no object. I wanna spoil her!

Oh man, go eat some whole fried cuttlefish and walnut waffle balls for me when you're in Korea. Oh, and croissant taiyaki. So good.
They said "NO". That's actually funny. They were like screw you. We're blasting our music.

Still crazy. Small burgers for that much isn't a bargain. Tourists will cave though lol.
every restaurant is like this in Hong Kong, almost ridiculous pricing... but the rent is too high for any restaurant pulling the market price of food up like hell. 88$ is considered cheap, but yea too expensive for a damage small-medium sized burger

+Lily G Hong Kong isn't expensive to eat. You are probably going to the wrong places, tourist oriented
"Take a Bao."There's many reasons why I love your videos, and your wit just makes everything you do more charming. Thank you for this video. Love it!

Anna Young Hot Oil is the stuff! My family always had a restaurant size tub in the fridge. We are American.
You probably mean an AMERICAN Chinese restaurant, not an actual one.
Wish I was in HK again eating this!! looks so good. Thanks for the great video review MC!
Mike is my YT crush. I love a guy who eats with relish and no shame.
I keep hearing BOWEL (relating to poop) instead of Bao. Lmao. #NursingProblems.
Awesome Video Mike!
If you're still in HK, consider linking up with ThatFoodCray, aka Nicole Fung. She's a food blogger out there. The resulting collabo video would be epic.
You're listening to SuperPop FM with your favorite host Mikey Chen, bringing you the poppiest pop songs of the 80s, 90s & Today.
Little Bao, Big price tag. Rent isn't cheap in that area though.
Bao every where is very pricey...
The chef has won the best female Chinese chef award. That might explain the prices.
I always get distracted by people on the background 😂 in anyone's video where there is a person thats just keeps looking at the camera and think "what the heck is he/she doing" 😂😂😂
NgoNgoSica Vlogs Yea, I kept staring at those white colonialists behind him.

HK milk tea with coffee caramel = yin yang milk tea!....I dunno why but I could taste the flavor of the clam broth lol...and that chicken looks super crispy!
Hong Kong is a amazing place for food. In term of Chinese and Western cuisine, they are both excellent.
I love it when people behind you turn around with a WTF look. lol
I hope this vid doesn't get removed by youtube
You and Mark Weins need to do a review of each other, sparks will fly.
The background music wasn't so bad. Good video.....take a bao.... :D
Wow, you spent a LOT there. Lol. Good for you, Mike! :D
Holy crap you ate A LOT! And damn eating that much and also having to pay that BILL xD.
I'm definitely gonna try making one or two of these baos. All that food is making me T^T

I love the LongBao, ChowHai, give my sis a Pork Pie...
You know, if they put a few clams or mussels in the Truffle Fries- that would be a MEAL bro!!!
I love to see you eat, no sound is ok. :)
It's great to try both cheap and not-so-cheap places. As long as it's tasty and made with good and fresh ingredients, paying a tad more is worth it.
nuvamusic you cant put a price on good clean food :)
You're making me hungry with those delicious Bao.
Ok! Little round bao bao roll on out.
Unrelated question for you, Mike: What are some tried-and-true Asian foods you should eat when you have a cold? Chicken noodle soup is doing nothing for me right now! I'd love your suggestions, please. What do Chinese mothers typically cook when their kids are sick?

Bao is determined by the buns. If the buns are delicious, the contents are roughly OK. How about?

Goodness! You do eat a lot!
"Have you guys ever just drank butter?" LOL

How on earth can you eat that much? I thought I knew how much you could eat but damn you've outdone yourself
I expected you to say, the fish bao isn't that good, but once I slather a giant amount of hot sauce on it, it tastes much better . . .

I can't believe they wouldn't turn down the music. To me just watching it it's too loud and yea it would've bothered me too.
I bought the pork belly one accidentally in an upmarket Auckland street restaurant... so expensive and disappointing.
Was it at Mekong Baby, Big fish or That place in Mt Albert? None of them are that upmarket lol. And the priciest one is only 10 NZ. That's 7 US? I think paying 12 US is way overboard though.

Im curious why I heard so much English in that Hong Kong restaurant? Was that the workers and if so do a lot of places speak English?
Britain technically ruled Hong Kong until 1997. There's a lot of English there overall.
5:11 put some more
5:00 paper planes MIA
oh this meal cost around HKD$1k...
