    I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Stellar Teras were introduced in the same set that Crispin released, but I think it’s safe to say that Crispin will be remembered for enabling Dragons more than Stellar Teras

      genuinely think the only two tera stellars that actively see competative play are Hydregion and Terapagos at my local tournaments, although I will say I have used Cyclizar before as utility, but that was a prerelease event. No-one uses Pikachu ex, acutally. Mainly bc Miraidon gets murked by the entire meta game there, with Ancient Box, Pidgeot Control, Raging Bolt and Charizard all being mainstays of the tournaments

    To be fair, Stellar Tera isn't the greatest in the actual games as well.
    I mean I guess it's not bad for pure offense but Tera is best used there as a defensive maneuver, and Stellar Tera gives you none.

      It's so cute on Serperior and Enamorus with their Contrary ability since it gives them a typeless move that just keeps ramping, but that's it's only use case and that's absolutely pathetic for something they tried to pass off as a new capital-T "Type"

    • @ZeBanded
      @ZeBanded 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Well not entirely, since certain pokemon like urshifu and chien-pao who hold the focus sash doesnt care about their defenses as the item guarantees a 2hko, so with stellar it can be used to pick up some important KOs, but regardless its still fairly niche

      In the video game it's best used in tera raid battles, where all your attacks get the damage boost for as long as it's terastalized. In regular battles, including pvp, it's less useful.

    I feel like another big problem with these Tera Stellar Cards is the weird energy requirements for their attacks. Normally a strong ttack is 1-3 energy of of that pokemons type and maybe some colourless energy with the exception of dragons but now its 3 energy of differing types. It just doesn't sit right with me as these attacks may not even be that strong in some cases. However as a casual, they look cool as hell and I feel like these cards were 100% made for collectors.

    I've been out of the game since the end of Sun/Moon. But for this, why didn't they just also release a multi energy? And I don't mean like rainbow, I mean like the blend energy from B/W era. I didn't mind having the different energy, but you gotta help us out a little. Also why not make Terra act like how it does in the game and have it be just a type change? Could have been like the delta species mons, like electric Charizard or grass Snorlax, which I loved so much. Would have been easy. Just make a cool EX version of the mon, have that terra built in bench protection, and make it a different type.

      A couple reasons, we do have a rainbow energy in format with luminious, but it only works if no other special energy are attached. Beyond that, it seems like they have been hesitant to print better special energy due to lugia vstar still being in the format

    • @sd7460
      @sd7460 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      Terra and stellar terra are different. Terras do type change like we have dark charizard fighting greninja etc. Stellar terras do not type change neither in in vgc nor in tcg. And all multi energy ideas are gatekeeped by lugia being broken

    • @user-zz3sn8ky7z
      @user-zz3sn8ky7z 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      In the games stellar is a special "type" you terra into that keeps your resistences the same but instead boosts all your moves as opposed to any given type, but only once per type, incentivizing you to switch between them each round, hence the energy gimmick
      Terra into the "standard" pokémon types that you're describing was the gimmick the expansion before this one and worked literally exactly as you described, making them type-switched ex pokémon with bench protection
      Stellar is wonky, that's for sure, but if you, as you admit, don't know much about the new games please at least do one google before making suggestions 😭

    The thing is that they printed the anti-plasma kyurem right before printing the stellar tera mechanic, if they didn't do that we might have seen a few of these (other than pikachu) as tech includes in lost box.
    Lost box is the only deck that can realistically power up a stellar tera. it's actually pretty good at it though with mirage gate+pikachu EX being a legitimately good deck (though I hate Kyruem)

    The first time I saw Lapras ex, I instantly knew it would be a stinker. Power Splash just screams "Chien-Pao ex at home", and Larimar Rain is just plain bad for a couple of reasons. First, it's an Energy accelerator... that requires Energy acceleration itself. What's the point? Second, it's an attack. Which means it ends your turn. Which means the opponent can just KO the Pokémon you accelerated that Energy to before you even get a chance to use the Energy.

    • @matthewkuscienko4616
      @matthewkuscienko4616 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I completely agree with this, and was more or less thinking the same things when I first saw this card revealed. It honestly might just have the worst stellar attack of any of these cards -- those attacks are already quite hard to get online to begin with, and only 2 of these cards are seeing play for those attacks specifically, namely Pikachu and Hydreigon. The former is only used as an attacker in lost box decks because they already play a variety of energy types in their decks to begin with, so they don't have too big of an issue, really, with getting Pikachu online -- it's honestly a bit of a shame that LZB is going to be rotating out, because that deck is one of the best enablers for these stellar tera ex cards. As for Hydreigon, the only reason why it even sees any play is because an attack that deals 130 damage to 3 different Pokemon your opponent has in play has the potential to be extremely devastating due to how many low HP Pokemon are in the format right now that are played as either support or to evolve up into an ex card, and being able to potentially combine it with Dusknoir to take out something with as much as 260 HP while also hitting 2 other Pokemon for 130 is incredibly scary if everything works out in your favor.
      ..................All of this is to say, of course, that while the stellar attacks these cards have can SOMETIMES be good under the right conditions, the fact that they need 3 different energy is going to make any one of them clunky to try to play at best. But as you said yourself, needing to accelerate energy to a card that you use to.......................accelerate energy to your other Pokemon in play is just BAD, and the fact that it ends your turn afterwards isn't doing this card any favors. Having said this, I was always a bit skeptical about how much potential these cards each have because of them needing 3 different energy types to play, I also kinda wonder if they will eventually find a deck that can actually take advantage of them like the amazing rare cards did when Lugia V Star was released

    I don't think it's fully fair. We're living in a world where Stellars have been around for 4 months, and the video is reaching conclusions while they still have 2.5 years to shine. Rotation of some beasts (Drago, Raichu) and enablers will surely change the meta and might allow some of these bad boys to take prime spot. Out of available options, I'm thinking specifically about Pikachu ex, who by all means should be an attacking force soon.
    Sylveon was thrash for now, but with more Eeveelutions joining the party (specifically Eevee ex and Espeon ex) it might see legitimate usage.
    Terapagos will have to switch to Rainbow Engine with the rotation of DTE, and thus Opal Crown will ore than less likely be a force. With what Raging Bolt and Hop's Zacian could do soon, Terapagos's Stellar Attack might be very necessary to keep the meta healthy.
    Jolteon, Flareon, Glaceon and Leafeon each offer great utility, also due to their powerful finishing blow Stellar Attacks. If a deck based around them comes up, it would surely go for a rainbow engine.
    Hydreigon is not dead yet. Although it hasn't seen much competitive success, the deck still waits for an idea of how to build and shape it. I wouldn't count it out yet with the format slowing down, and the potential for it to prey on small HP basics and Stage1s.

    I think the main reasons why Stellar Tera Pokémon are flopping is because the current format consist on quick energy acceleration. Only decks with reliable energy acceleration are meta. Another thing that ruins most Stellar tera Pokémon is the inexistent synergy between its first and second attack. For example: Galvantula ex. Pikachu ex (SSP) is probably one of the worst offenders. Its attack costs a lot, it has no fully electric type attack, it has low HP, its ability doesn't help it to accelerate energy or change the attack's energy cost, and you have to recharge it every turn because it discards 3 energies to attack

    @ChazBlanks 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    Tera stellar is still new. I wouldn't say it failed, but it is absolutely disappointing. Ceruledge ex is the best because of its first attack, like how the new Flareon ex can be great in a Flareon ex deck. Galvantula ex stinks because the Jotik you want to use will get one shot by almost everything. Galvantula ex item lock gets outclassed by Banette ex and now Budew. I believe the best Stellar Tera Pokémon will be Hydreigon ex. I do wish it was a better mechanic, but I'll give my final verdict once VSTAR leaves the format.

    Flareon in prismatic evolutions is pretty decent. Going second with SSP Eevee who can evolve on turn 1 while having a single energy in hand and Arven, you can use its Burning Charge attack by attaching the energy to the eevee, then using Arven to search for Tera Orb + Sparkling Crystal. You tera orb for Flareon, evolve the Eevee to Flareon, and then you attach the Sparkling Crystal to Flareon. All this for 3 cards in your opening hand going second.
    This lets you attack on turn 2 for 130 damage and then you can attach any 2 basic energy to any pokemon you like, including Flareon to get the Stellar Attack for a decent 280 damage or to power up another attacker your deck might be playing. If you wanna play risky, you could theoretically not run any fire energy but still play this combination, but you risk the flareon ex or the sparkling crystal ending up as a prize card.

    They are basically current day crystal pokemon. I have 2 issues with stellar tera, the first is it feels like this 3 energy attacks feel really underpowered for how difficult the cost is to actually get except for lost zone or they have drawbacks they should absolutely not have, maybe this one problem can change with a special energy as soon as Lugia rotates but battle partners is already fully spoiled and it has no such thing. The second issue I have with stellar tera is they started focusing on these instead of the actual coolest form of tera, which is type shifted teras which feel woefully under utilized and charizard was the only relevant one. Type shifted teras are the reason I like the mechanic so much in the videogame, giving you a lot of defensive potential and in the tcg it could have a lot of both defensive and offensive potential like having a second type attacker that uses your primary energy attack has a ton of potential but in practice being type changed is fairly bad since it hurts with accelerating energy.

    I'm having some fun with a Gholdengo, Terachu, Magneton deck. G-go starts out the game strong as both a draw engine and a relatively quick attacker who puts energy in the discard. I passively build up 1-2 Magneton on the bench while G-go attacks. Once G-go faints, I pop Magneton for instant 3 energy from the discard and surprise Terachu them in the late game. If it's a single prize deck, I focus on more G-go and less Terachu.

    Those pokemon with 3-type energy attacks always look so flashy, but historically very few of them have been good.
    At least this "mechanic" is hardly a "mechanic" in itself, it's just the pattern of the energy cost associated with the two attacks of these cards. The way I see, the percentage of "stellar tera" mons that are viable is like any other 2-prizer.
    Maybe they could've printed some better ones, but just like the other carts that are printed, all of them are very collectible, but very few are competitively viable. Perhaps they should stick with 2-type energy attacks at most for any card, or they could've made it so you only needed 2 of the 3 types, and the 3rd energy could be any type.

      I think the big issue here is there's no explicit label for Stellar, so you need to be really really careful to not buff some things that really don't need the help. 2 types of energy to a tera [presumably on a non-ace spec, with some other drawback] doesn't sound too bad until you remember that Dragapult is a tera that would absolutely love that...

    • @FaveoVHS
      @FaveoVHS 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@lumen8201 Dragapult is a issue on its own, the 2 energy cost was a mistake by Pokemon tcg part.
      Still, other teras are just as bad because of 3 energy costs. Greninja is one example.
      Since Dragapult is already good. Making other teras have a chance agaist it doesent sound like a bad idea, even if Dragapult becomes a little faster. Even so, on turn 3/4 you already have 2 energy on him anyway.

    So, I’ll admit that I’m not a competitive player whose experience is TCGL Ladder, but I’ve mained both a Lost Box Cinderace deck and a Hydreigon deck, and honestly both have been pretty fun and decent. Hydreigon especially has been a really fun deck thanks to Neo Turbo and Crispin, even if it does lose hard to Ogerpon. I’ve had a disturbing number of games where I got a turn 2 Obsidian, and just won on the spot against evolution decks lol. Then with Cinderace, I’ve found the attacks not *that* difficult to get set up, and they do function pretty well if you can. Though it’s not an especially high power ceiling. That said, yeah. There’s a lot of awful Stellar Pokemon, though I wouldn’t quite say the mechanic as a whole failed. It’ll be interesting to see how things shake up post-rotation, once the last few V Pokemon and Manaphy leave, to see if anything like Hydreigon or Terapagos get to see play (Terapagos especially, since this is the kind of deck that gets better with more support)

    I remember seeing the leaks of the first cards and praying it was a hoax! The theme with most of these is that they seem nice on paper, but it just doesn't work. The game is currently too fast to invest the time into getting most of these set up. Some of the Eeveelution Stellar attacks look cool in theory, but again, there just isn't really the support to get them set up quickly enough to be worth it. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't have high hopes. Looking at the prospective set list for Journeys together, doesn't look like we are getting any more stellar (or maybe even any more tera?) pokemon either, so this may go down as a dud mechanic...

    I think Tera as a mechanic was done poorly. Its bench protection is nothing but boring. Its too passive, you cant build a deck around it, it invalidates a good chunk of new cards, its just no good. I thought it would be a cool addition to an archetype, like a new pokemon to offset a type weakness, or a shift in playstyle to throw the opponent off guard. But in most cases, the tera totally outclasses its counterparts, if it even had one to begin with. There are also very, very few support tera pokemon. Cornerstone Ogerpon EX and Skeledirge EX are the only ones that really come to mind for what i mean by that.

In Pokemon I think the search runs really well so it’s more about execution than being lucky and Bedue kind of ruins that from the few games I have played since launch of the new set.
