- I know lots of you have been asking about where I came from and why I look the way I do. It took mommy a few days because she works and had to get some back history. So here I go. My vet says I am approximately 15 years old (but we will never really know). I am a Goffins Cockatoo and we typically live 40-60 years.
I had a daddy a long time ago who loved me very much and I lived with him for a long time and then he died which made me very sad because I loved him a lot.
His family did not know what to do with me so I got passed around a lot. I ended up with one family member who put me in a basement by myself because they didn't like my yelling (I just wanted attention plus you know I am a bird and we do that). They got mad that I was still screaming so they put me outside for a long time by myself in a very small cage with no toys and only 1 perch. They weren't very nice and would yell and throw things at my cage when I would yell for attention. I stayed in my cage for 5 years and was never allowed to leave.
Eventually another family member came and got me and dumped me at a pet store where I lived for a year and they kept me in the same tiny cage and fed me sausage rolls and sausage McMuffins (how did I know this wasn't good for me?) They kept me covered because they didn't like my screaming either I swear I just wanted attention. The owner said I had to go.
One day this really nice lady came in and it was the first time anyone had tried to hold me in so long! I was so happy and she was such a nice lady I let her hold me and I was just so happy to have someone pay attention to me I went home with her! I lived with this nice lady for 2 years but sadly her mommy got very sick. She said her brain wasn't right anymore and would leave windows and doors open and would spray poisonous stuff around the house (it wasn't her fault she didn't know she was sick) so mommy thought the safest place for me would be to go to the rescue in the hopes that I would find another nice family that would understand and love me. She was so sad and cried but I know she only did it to make me safe.
The nice people at Florida Parrot Rescue took me in and my mommy and daddy (now) volunteered to foster me. They only had me for a few months before they fell in love me (I mean who couldn't love this!) and adopted me forever and ever.
For those that don't know birds like me who go through traumatic things like this it is very hard on us. Like you we bond very deeply with our humans and when they are mean we start bad habits sometimes kind of like when you guys bite your fingernails (feather pulling). Mommy and daddy are working on this with me but it's going to be a long process and I may never be able to get over the ugly people. But I know I am loved and mommy and daddy let me out to dance and hold me all the time! I eat really good now and they don't even mind it when I scream (probably because my birdie sister has a bigger mouth).
Anyway, I sure am happy now and now I get to dance my heart out for the rest of my life!

Imagine the heartache she would have been spared if they had just surrendered her to the rescue place after her owner passed away. I'm glad she's where she belongs now.

I agree! I definitely want to make sure people around me know what to do with my feathered babies if anything happens to me. I worry that no one will be able to care for my green cheek conure properly because she is definitely a biter. But she's also extremely sweet. She's bipolar. Lol I adopted her about 18 months ago and adore her!
I also have concerns about my prescious, adopted Goffins. He comes across as a mean, scary bird, but it's all an act...one I didn't buy from the get go. 😊He'll do anything and everything he can to avoid biting someone. He only bites if/when he feels trapped and is scared (or if he's injured and has to be treated). I know two people who are good with birds and have birds. I hope they'll take my babies if anything happens to me.

I never heard her full story. How awful. People should know that they can take a bird to a rescue or possibly to a pet store (?). It might be that her keepers didn't care to find out.
PS - I see that she has more covering! All that fluff. I hope she lets her pinfeathers grow in so she can have wings.

Honestly, I thought it would be.... There was a lot of emotions, above all gratitude and relief... All changed as I came home, seeing the images of what had taken place in Butja..... Today seeing Griffi again, was a gift! To be a part of Griffis Tribe, filled with kindness, tenderness, hope and love restores my faith in humanity somehow....

Griffi is the bestest gurl in the world and she is the bestest dancer of all time.
Sweet, precious Griffi gives off such a genuine, free-spirited, joyous vibe when she dances. You'd never know how horribly neglected and traumatized she was prior to her rescue.
Animals are wonderful and we don't deserve them. Griffi had zero reason to trust a human being ever again. She easily could've lost any notion of what it means to feel safe and protected. It would be understandable if she never figured out how to be happy, and just lived the rest of her life cowering in fear and isolated due to an inability to trust again.
I get that this is going to sound insane, but I swear it's true!Watching Griffi dance with complete freedom and pure happiness has literally, on multiple occasions, made me feel so much better following a tough day dealing with my clinical depression. She is simply wonderful and I am so grateful to you for sharing her. I really mean that. I am just beyond thankful for that beautiful little girl. 💕

I am also an Empath..dont know if u are familiar with that. And i do also feel Griffies JOY. It is such a wonderful thing to see and feel. All the best to you💕

Griffi is the sweetest girl....I've always found that parrots are drawn to the opposite sex in humans, for whatever reason, but it's beautiful to see the bond she has with your husband....I'm so pleased for Griffi that this is a foster fail. 🎉 I did just see her in full dancing mode to Abba, and she's certainly got some moves going on there, bless her little heart. Thank you for being there for her and for sharing her with us. 🐦💕🙋

I got multiple birds when i was younger( am a teen) and i was extremely close to all of them . Sadly one after one they all passed . The two last ones died on the same day and my dad went to the animal store to buy a bird to comfort me , on his way my other bird ( the one i had from the very start) died. I still cant get over her death. Now i have one bird , too afraid to approach me , lonely because my dad refuses to buy him a companion. He also refused to buy millet ( which is my only way to approach him, it helped me taming him a little bit he accepted to stay on my finger but without it i cant even put my hand in the cage) i give him salad, he almost doesnt eat it, he is always bored . Send help please i cant get him out if the cage its been one year

i don't know why this is so hard for people to understand. if you keep a child in a small container and never spend time with them, don't give them toys and only feed them one kind of food and otherwise cover up their container, you go to prison and go down in history as a monster. same logic here.

Just saying hello. She is such a loved bird and she shows it with every little move, Daddy's girl for sure. A dark basement room or a back bedroom is generally why these beautiful creatures start to pluck their feathers, theyvoften feel punishedand don't understand, Not always but usually why the loud behaviour goes crazy and the plucking because neurotic. I am glad she found love again. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🦜💖

What failure I adopted from Florida parrot rescue and miss A what is the foster mom to my Brandy. Remember Maya and Griffey !remember some babies are so beat up is an so tortured that they can never get feathers back no matter how many try to come in !Griffey is absolutely beautiful inside and out Brandy he’s come a long way but still does not have perfect feathers the best pets I’ve ever owned are rescues you need to check your state and she was available. 🙃😍🥰😘

Poor baby...i believe there's a very special place for these a**holes that mistreat animals. I believe they need to be treated like what they've done to the animals -absolutely 110 percent. Laws are not strong enough on animal abuse, not even close. God bless y'all! Ive always wanted one of the bigger birds, i have the smaller ones.

This video is 2 years old now and I’ve been watching this bird every since. I fell in love with this bird. Griffi brought me alot of joy and tons of smiles on days where i needed some sort of joy. I appreciate her for that and you as well. Thank you

Thanks for the background on this beautiful little lady. She is called a Corella in Australia. There fantastic and there are about 50 of them come down to feed in the park most days where I live. Griffi is amazing and a true inspiration of hope.

From a very sad start to, better than a happy ending with y'all. My Goffins, Spencer, is the same as Griffi. Spencer is a Daddy's bird for sure. He does let me do for him and with him, but when Daddy's home, I don't matter any longer. 🤣😂 They "need" to be with their owner, and this owner needs to be with him. You're the best. 💕

I never tire of seeing little Griffi, she is so cute. Thank God she has a very loving home.
What most people outside of the animal rescue world don’t realize is that fostering animals with serious medical and/or behavioral conditions is a full time job. Depending on the rescue and their resources, it can also be an expensive undertaking for the foster too. This June will mark my 6th year as a volunteer medical foster. I primarily take in cats and dogs but over the years have nursed back to health desert tortoises, iguanas, a ferret, multiple guinea pigs and a sugar glider. I’ve never been called on to care for a bird, yet. I learn a lot watching your videos and did some research on bird care so I’ll be ready if and when that day ever comes. Fostering is hard work and demands your full attention. For us it is a family commitment. But the really hard part is letting them go. Academically I know it’s the right thing to do, if for no other reason than it keeps me available to take in the next at risk animal by allowing the rescue to pull more animals from the kill shelters; emotionally it can take a toll. Medical fostering often means the animals stay with you for a long time while they rehab. That’s how I wound up with my 3 foster failures and a 4th is looking like he’s going to stay for good😆 But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Fostering animals has provided a great bonding opportunity and many teachable moments with me with my non fur covered (human) foster children.
ahhh yes people don't realize that even though you volunteer for a rescue the daily care, food, time, etc falls on the foster. Just because they are in the rescue doesn't mean the rescue pays for everything. BUT at the end of the day mom and dad would go hungry before we ever did!

I have a Goffins whom I adopted nearly 3 years ago. He's the sweetest bird in the world! He tries to pretend he's all gruff and tough, but it's just an act. He will snuggle right in to my neck when I hold him.
Unfortunately, Idk his back story. I adopted him from friends who were really good to him, but they knew they couldn't give him the attention he desperately wanted/needed.
They got him from our local, small zoo of all places. The zoo got him from family members of a deceased woman who had him. They must have just dropped him off at the zoo because they didn't know his name, age, or history. I'm guessing they dropped him off with a note without even being sure the zoo would take him! Anyway, he's been to a vet who estimated his age to be around 35 years old. So he's around 43 now. Part of me wants to know his full back story, and part of me is glad I don't know. He probably had a few homes like Griffi and was probably not cared for properly in more than one of those homes, too.
Love you Griffi! She is the greatest birdie along with her loving adoption parents.
