Lilly, good on you for facing your fear! And thank you for sharing that even experienced potters struggle with certain things. It helps fledgling potters realize that we all have to crawl before we walk, and walk before we run. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed it!
I love that you shared this experience! It looks like an amazing opportunity and so much fun! On thing I noticed that may help: The way you describe and demonstrate the finger positioning is what's likely causing your wrist strain. The conical shape of your fingers need to lead with your middle with all other fingers helping with pressure pushing into your middle finger. This lends compounding strength engaging all ligaments. So mainly your middle finger pressing into the clay with your others pushing on it from behind. If you look at the footage of Moon demonstrating that pull, you'll see what I'm talking about. This got me wanting to throw big again! Thanks for sharing this! ❤❤
Thank you for the great video. Master Moon Byung-sik from Moon Do Bang is my mentor. He is an excellent teacher with a lot to learn from and a great ability to guide his students. I wish you a happy and enjoyable journey in your ceramic work moving forward.
I loved this video! I admire your challenging yourself to keep learning, stepping out of your norm and to be so inspired and excited to master a skill you’ve put on hold 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I have watched so many of Moon’s videos. He’s amazing.
Really interesting! Im just a hobby potter and so is my wife, but my wife and me are going to restore her (and me) a little shack in the garden of our new house just for our pottery journey. Nice Video. And it's always nice to learn new stuff, never stop learning.
I loved this video Lilly. Straight from the heart. Enough confidence to not need to hold back about inadequacies. If I had a granddaughter I would want her to be like you. Keep on setting an example for the young kids.
Thanks for putting together such a heartfelt and detailed video. Really appreciate you sharing your learning process and the failures. Always helpful to see, along with the absolutely flawless teacher demos that always look so easy :))
Hi Mae, Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am going to watch this video over and over again.. 😊 When you drill down, position your mid finger at the bottle and wrap it with your index and ring fingers. It'll help make it a lot easier when you open. Good luck~! ❤
What a great couple of days, who wouldn't want to become a student again with him as your tutor. Amazing to watch a craftsman at work, up close and personal. I loved your whole video, your passion for the whole experience was mind blowing 😊
So cool to see this filmed! I was at the workshop on a different day and it was absolutely humbling to learn how to throw big from a master - it was soo damn hard 😂 Good job for going and sharing!
thank you for this very inspirational video - I can imagine your feeling humbled, challenged and inspired by this experience. I may give throwing large another try myself!
Great video bravo to you. Especially enjoyed hearing him talking about beauty with his students. By the way spring steel is very hard. Be frightened but make the tools, it will give you great pleasure. Thanks
I've been following Moon for years and have been fascinated by his throwing technique. Thank you for such detailed video! I pray that he will visit Canada one day so that I attend his class in person :)
I have tendinitis in my wrist and what you’re describing sounds like it. It doesn’t bother me much when I throw small things but larger items it hurts and I need to do them in parts. I love throwing large items but just can’t do a huge chunk.
i also find opening large amounts of clay difficult with my wrist pain. im not very good at using it yet, but i have been using basically a big smooth wooden stick to push into the clay and it is wayyy easier on my wrists. but i want to go to physical therapy to see if i can help my wrists
I’ve been so interested in throwing bigger stuff recently and just made my first little moon jar! Thank you so much for this video, i feel like it was made just for me🥹
maybe get a check up to see if you've got a wrist infection. if it's in your stronger arm it's likely you got it from using a mouse. in the past I had something similar, from my office job and in periods when it flares up I could really feel it when throwing, even small things. more at the back of my wrist though. what fixed it for me was exercise but also pottery, as a form of exercise, when throwing and wedging. also stated using an ergonomic mouse 😅
(I just finished my first wheel class, so I'm an absolute fetus). But I had an identical shooting pain in my wrist and arm like you were describing trying to throw right handed/CCW for the first 4 weeks. But I was fine once I switched to lefty/CW. It might be something to try if your right hand already feels painful/awkward?
What a beautiful adventure! It was wonderful to watch! I must admit that I am very jealous because I can't throw large things myself. XD Please tell me what clay you used tot throw? I see it's Sibelco... do you remember the number?
Hi Lily. I admire you a lot as a potter, business owner, and artist. I've followed you for a few years and love your videos. I am a potter myself and attended his workshop in Australia this past weekend and I must say it makes me annoyed to see how much you shared on your video. It feels disrespectful towards Moon to share his knowledge and techniques on the internet for free when he's touring the world to teach people himself. It is interesting to see your experience in the workshop and on learning new techniques and pushing yourself to try something new, but it's not cool to share such deep details from his teaching on the internet.
Interesting take. I’m sharing what I learnt from it and what I have gained from him, but nothing would ever compare to actually going to it in person. There was SO much more that I could have shared, but the experience of being there and having real life feedback and talking to him truly could never compare to a video of it.
Just to update - I have messaged Moon and shared it with him. I’ll happily edit it down if he feels I’ve shared too much. Thanks for your comment, I was so excited to share what I learnt and would be happy if someone made this video about me and my classes, but understand that not everyone feels this way. L
Hi Lily thanks for your reply. I'm glad he's okey with it. Maybe in the future you could consider checking in with the artist/maker before releasing the video in case they dont feel comfortable with you sharing their knowledge on their behalf? Just an idea :)

This is such a good video. You shared what you are learning well. Best video I’ve seen in a very long time anywhere. 👍🏼
Omg I also took his workshop in Pasadena and it was such a humbling but amazing time!! So fun to see other potters learn!
That was absolutely BRILLIANT! Thank you for giving us so much detail!
Wow. This put a smile on my face. 😊 Thank you for sharing.
I will remember Moon’s lesson about perfection and beauty for a long time.

Oh and appreciate all the work that went into your video. Really great editing and succinct content that looks natural
Thanks!! It was a difficult edit but worth it I think :)

What an experience that must have been ! . Great video, thanks
Great Share! What a great experience to see such an experienced potter at work or play, and be a student again. Thanks for this.
So well explained. This ist your best Video, by far. Thank you so much for the effort you put into it. I Love it! ❤
thank you for this very inspirational video - I can imagine your feeling humbled, challenged and inspired by this experience. I may give throwing large another try myself!
I almost teared up at the part where Moon talked about the beauty in imperfection in moon jars and his student's work 🥲
Thank you. Your enthusiasm shines through.
Great video bravo to you. Especially enjoyed hearing him talking about beauty with his students. By the way spring steel is very hard. Be frightened but make the tools, it will give you great pleasure. Thanks
I've been so excited for this video and it did not disappoint! 😁 Thank you so much for sharing your experience!! 🫰
This was fascinating- thank you, I’ve learned a lot ❤
the part the translator missed is that Moon saw his students' jars were dancing. "it wasn't a symmetrical jar, it was a dancing jar." 29:13
I love that sm
Incredible video, delightfully informative and inspiringly emotive
Thanks so much for sharing this! Great to see your experience with this master 😊❤

Thank you so much for sharing and explaining, it has inspired me so much.
Great video, so interesting. I can just about throw a small heavy bottomed bowl but this has inspired me to keep trying🤣🤣
Hi Lilly, may I ask you which camera you used for filming? Looks beautiful ❤
@@viola6562 an iPhone 15! 😅
Hi Mae superb video so informative . What type of clay were you using please ? 😊
I actually don’t know but it was very similar to a Laguna b-mix apparently. Nice and plastic
Thanks so much for sharing!

Me on my laptop’s trackpad like 👀
What a fun video! Thank you!
I would imagine when you work on your own for a lot of the time, getting in a room with other potters would be really nice…..
Thanks for all the info

At this point switching the way the wheel goes literally feels like learning to walk again!
How many lbs clay was he throwing?

Sorry I don’t know what it was!
Florian! 🥰🧡🧡🤎🤎

Moon dobang is the ceramic company he owned . His name is Byungsik Moon.
@@edwardkim1349 oh!! Thank you! His team was calling him Moon so I thought that was his name. Thanks for the correction!
Is "throwing a pot", the cool way to say you turn the pottery?😅
Haha no it’s just what it’s called!
I slowed playback speed from 1.75 to normal to watch this
Huge news!!
😍
Thank you for this amazing video, so inspiring. I am gonna practise tomorrow ! @feursteinceramics
