    using tb 3 is it possible to change bass line pattern not from presets included but by writting the pattern by ourselves when playing live at the same time having variation in melody?
    by the way nice perfomance

    I prefer the Avalon to the Roland TB-303, but I can't get one so I've been looking for a similar sound. I think the Roland Aira tb-3 is up there. Sounds cleaner if that makes sense. I'm going to buy one for sure. Can you run the Aira tb-3 through fx pedals?

    • @ObscureMachines
      @ObscureMachines  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Erica Bassline is my fav. Yes you can run through pedals. Also the Behringer 303 is good too and I would rather have that to be honest. Aira has a few chord patches which is interesting.

      @@ObscureMachines You know I've overlooked the Erica Bassline, I literally just went and took another look and it is an amazing bassline synth. I'd seen a few earlier videos and didn't get that vibe. But you inspired me to check it out again. The perfect match as I'm after buying a Erica Perkons HD-01 anyway. The Roland Aira tb-3 could be another good option though as, I have a Roland TR-8s. I can sync it to that. Cheers bud 👍

    This song made me buy the tr8 and tb3. I absolutely love it. One question though: how can you put a high/low pass on that lowest row on you launch control when in Factory mode? Right now i made a custom filter on my User bank for the the kick from the tr8 etc but it sucks when switching between User and Factory

    • @ObscureMachines

      Not sure that you can. In this video I was in user and maybe used 4 knobs mapped to verb and delay. Keep it simple!

    What are the sources of the effects? They sound fantastic.
    I just ordered a TB-3. I'm excited for it's arrival. After listening to your videos, I'm now considering the TR-8 as well. Thinking about selling my Volcas and getting one of those (though I love my little volcas).
    Another great jam. Thanks for sharing.

    • @ObscureMachines
      @ObscureMachines  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Greer The effects are just sends to Ableton's stock reverb and simple delay plugins, the master bus is also sending to those plugins, so it actually feeds back a little bit giving it that really long deep sound. Yes, I highly recommend the TR-8, it's my favorite out of the bunch.

  • @EphyPinkman
    @EphyPinkman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    im thinking of selling my Tr-8 because i still didnt figure out how to use your own samples with this xD

    • @ObscureMachines
      @ObscureMachines  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TR8 can't use samples, but the TR8S can. I likely used the USB output to individual channels in Ableton and sculpted the existing sounds which can make a big difference in departing from the stock sounds if they are getting old. In one video I did use drum replacement, but in realtime the latency proved to be too much so I didn't continue doing that. The best part about the TR8 is how quick it is, and if instead of selling it and buying another machine, try to squeeze out of it what you want in the stock sounds. You can go surprisingly far by making it do things it's not meant to do. That's where the magic happens with all of this stuff.

    Impressed at your genre flexibility as always. In the final stages of version 3... maybe 4 technically of remodeling my studio. Thoughts on Launch Control XL with TR8 & TB3? I'm going to have to watch again (closely) to get a handle on how you're integrating the Launch Control. What's your philosophy with it (the XL) in general. I have the Launchpad, Launch Control and the XL, but I haven't even cracked the XL out of the box- studio refurbished and remodeling is taking up all my time. I assumed I'd hook the XL to the Launchpad.... but may even not. Your perspective?

    • @ObscureMachines
      @ObscureMachines  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My rule of thumb is if it makes things easier, and is fun to work with then use it. When you get bored or find something else that does things better, then sell and move on. So in this particular video I just used the Launch Kontrol with Ableton to control reverbs and filters, possibly just one track for the TR-8 and one for the TB-3. I didn't do individual drums via USB because the setup I had at the moment had crazy latency which wouldvbe been: TR and TB out to USB > into Live > out of Live to analog mixer > out of mixer > back into Live...so it wasn't really an ideal setup. Probably the most important thing is how you approach your workflow. For example: I wanted reverb and filters, so I had to integrate Live. Then I wanted to control those things, so I added the Launch Kontrol. Need first, then fill the need. That works better than I have a piece of gear, let's work it in. Then you end up with lots of cool gear that you don't use cause you can't figure out how to work it in. Those are just some of my ideas...let me know how it goes!

    • @PeteSpaker
      @PeteSpaker 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the detailed reply! I read you loud and clear. The amassing gear is a problem for me, even though I do sell anything I do not enjoy or doesn't make life simpler. I tend to keep the less expensive stuff around, and building a place for all of my gear has been a fun process that is pretty much a totally separate woodworking, speaker building, and DIY electronics hobby meld... that let's any piece of gear within reach and able to be used via patchbay if it is analog. I built a monster PC that can handle many audio and MIDI signals via analog or USB for either, but the routing for actual play will only be 3 or 4 sources with effects. I am not smart or good enough to make anything sound good after 3 or 4 pieces of gear pushing out noises. But I did build a technical wonder that can handle anything being turned on and played with little effort as far as making sound come out of the monitors, to a computer at least as part of a mix, (if not a track,) or to a stereo recording. It has been a challenge and kinda sucked when I had to unhook gear and go silent while major desk, rack and shelving was built... but I am glad I did it. I'll keep watching and maybe when I have something worth sharing, I'll set up a camera too. Keep up the AIRA stuff! It's my favorite.

    • @PeteSpaker

      Here's one more question- if you're up for it. What are you using in Ableton as far as a device(s?) to talk to the TR-8. I have downloaded a bunch and only one has worked well. I figure there might be another out there I am not seeing.

    • @ObscureMachines
      @ObscureMachines  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thanks for the comment and listening so intently. So here are some things I've picked up over the years as a drummer that might help you out. 1. Drop and accent on 1, 3, 7, 11, 15. This will give your kick a boost on the one (it's all about the one - George Clinton), and your 16th hats and open hats a boost on the upbeats. 2. You need to swing just a little. Very subtle. Maybe 52-54 somewhere in there. Not too much though. Just enough to add an almost subconscious subtlety to the beat. 3. Lastly, on all of my vids I always dropped the master track into Ableton with an EQ, Glue compressor (SSL 4K emulation), and a Limiter on the master. EQ just low cut 40 and high cut 18k. Maybe a little bump in the lows, cut a little in the 100-200 range, and a few bumps in the mids and highs. For the compressor, you want the kick to trigger the compressor to give the track a little bounce. Again super subtle, maybe just a few db of reduction. Makeup gain 2-3db and soft clip on. Then a limiter to bring it up to full listening volume. All of that should help you out. I think the biggest difference makers are going to be the accents and the compressor to give you some bounce. All of this stuff is subtle, but add it up and you have a nice result. Hopefully, that helps! Let me know how it goes!

    What is the launch control controlling in this one? (VST wise) really nice proggesive sounding lead(ish) synth. x

    • @ObscureMachines
      @ObscureMachines  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching! Yeah, so the synth is primarily the TB3. Launch Control is just mapped to reverb and delay send and maybe a filter in Ableton, but that’s it. All of my Aira videos were made with the sounds from the machines themselves!

    • @h-dawg969
      @h-dawg969 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ObscureMachines Wicked, really nice sound man. I'm deffo a fan of musicians who get different sounds out of the tb3 instead of the stereo typical squelchy 303 acid bass as it can make some really nice sounds but most people seem to use it strictly for acid leads or basses (which theres nothing wrong with, but I wanna hear what else they can do lol).

    • @ObscureMachines
      @ObscureMachines  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@h-dawg969 Ya man I would have to agree. I started with the typical acid sounds and honestly just kinda got bored and needed something else. Which was cool cause the TB3 had other sounds to offer. Through the years I've found that often the coolest and newest sounds come from doing more with less. Diving deeper into a single machine instead of getting a new one to solve a specific problem is where the magic happens as you may already know! Anyways, thanks for the chat dude!

    • @ObscureMachines
      @ObscureMachines  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks dude, no clips in this one, all sounds are from the machines. However, there's lots of reverb and delay from Live, and the Novation is just mapped to the sends, hipass filters, and the volume faders. So Live is just an effects unit in this one really. I should take advantage of launching some clips though...

    • @ObscureMachines
      @ObscureMachines  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, from what I remember there was some EQ on a few channels to clean up the low end, and some EQ, Glue, and Limiter on the master. The main thing though is the Ableton reverb and delay send as well as Effectrix on the master too. That's about it though. Main thing is the reverb and delay.
