actually Tr8 and tr808 boutique and tb303 boutique utilizing ACB technology - analog circuit behaviour, so the digital parts 'simulate' behaviour of analog parts (OSC, filter, clock, etc), so it's digital in the nature but 'analog' in the aim; anyway, computer is everywhere nowadays, and btw, at the output of any device like instrument there is analog output, so it's finally analog anyway!:)
Nice performance man. Great example of how good Rolland's ACB tech has got. I'm really keen to grab a TB03... and you just made me want it even more! Analog/digital... who gives a shit. it's what you do with it that matters... and what you did was great! I got quite a bit of Roland gear these days... MX-1, TR-8, JP-08, JX-03, A-01, JD-Xi, TD-6K VDrums even... and a very old dusty MC-303 that I brought second hand in about '97 haha! Yeah, gear is so good these days! You can't go wrong! Cheers!
Clayton Wakefield Hey Clayton you hit the nail on the head there and yes get the 03 should be a pleasure with your other babys 😄 funny that you mentioned the MC-303, it was actually the one that started the whole gear addiction back in 96. Cheers Mate
Yep, the TB-3 and TB-03 are legit machines. Screw the haters! This comes from somebody, who owns next to two TB-3s an Abstrakt Instruments Avalon and a modded X0xb0x. Roland did a great job in completely emulating the hardware in software with their ACB (Analog Circuit Behavior) technology. I used the TB-3 in many productions. Currently, I use the Audio realism's ABL3 in most productions. It sounds legit and is super convenient. I have no idea, how they were able to get it so close to the original, though. This said, there are only a very few VSTs, which get somehow close to the TB-303. All of them are specifically made to emulate it. TB-303 Patches and TH-cam sound design tutorials for standard synths are not cutting it. Bottom line: digital can sound great, when it's done right.
The best things I've heard these machines do in a long time. I have the Tr8 and the Tb03 and wish I could put them to this use. That cool little riff is mint....more so because it's used sparingly. Exactly the sort of thing I'd hope to achieve. Well done. Still attracted some bore's going on about the old days tho 😢
Love the description! I have analog and digital gear, but I'm with you, if it sounds good that's all that matters. Do you have any vids incorporating your 1m with the TB-03? Would love to see both in action. Well done!
Great one! Maybe you should try volca bass sometime. I have tb 03 tb 3 and the volca bass. I haven't choose which one is the special yet but definitely volca bass is a riot. Not that rounded sound of roland. All of them are great though. Big ups!
Good work my friend! Analogous is now overestimated! Here you can see what is possible without analog influence! Do not misunderstand I love analog instruments. Good job of Roland !!!
Yeah we are on the same page. I love analogs as well, but the new gear we get this year is just so much fun, that I no longer care if its analog or ACB. Cheers Andy
Probably the best demo of the tb 03 I've heard. Nice liberal use of slides and accents in the pattern. I was beginning to think it couldn't reproduce the original squelchy, rubbery 303 sound, I'm happy to be proved wrong.
SuicideServer I currently have a tt303, which I love, but like the original is a complete pig to program. I like the new programming method in the tb 03. I'll possibly pick one up at some point.
Sounds great 😯😃 I haven't bought a new bit of gear since 2005 😬 I'm looking at the TB 03 & TR 8 and after watching your video I'm getting quite excited, the 3 sounds good too and can see from other videos on you tube that it has lots more sounds but I can't help but feel put off by the way it looks
+Jim Roland I got both the 03 & 8 and am very happy. The TR really is something else, I've always used my drum machines through Cubase however as a stand alone toy the TR-8 is great fun and I never thought I'd be saying that about a drum machine.
i have just bought a TB-03, absolutely love it, well worth it at any price but i managed to buy one for only £150 of the net. So now seems like a great time to pick one up on the used market, as they are a few years old now and roland has brought out new gear, both factors bring the prices down and increase availability. Rave On, Aciiideeeee :)
MessiahGaming1080p yeah the do sound different but its more like different flavours of Acid. The 03 has a lot more bass response and it chirps even more. Cheers
XHALE303 Hey X, yeah you know im a sucker for Roland gear 😄 they really improved the ACB version a lot in the new 03, so for now the 03 is on 303 duty while the 3 sequences the System 1m. But i do love em both. Cheers bro
Davin Chase yeah I really enjoy the current setup a lot, even though i slowly feel the GAS creeping up. New MPC or Maschine or Digitakt ? Damn I need a sampler 😄
Laurent D'Hondt Thanks Laurent 😄 The Kick and Hihats are from the TR09, clap and open hihat is the TR-8 but you could do it with each of them alone as well. Cheers
ModeFree hey congrats on the 03. Actually i like it a lot and it reminds me of the TB-303 i owned years ago. I dig the bass response and also the sweet spots. Big improvement over the tb-3. Only thing i don't like is the od, but add some proper FX and she really starts to scream like hell 🤘🏻Cheers
redirishmanxlt as an oldschool 303 fan my vote would go to the 03 but the sequencer of the 3 is so much fun and they both sound good to my ears. Cheers
+Thanks for the info! One last question, on the TB3 all of the parameters were connected to the MIDI functions (in others words I could automate the cutoff, res, decay..etc from Ableton with the TB3), is this possible with the TB-03 also?
yeah it is. you just have to programm the right midi cc message ^^ and there is a vst where you can automate everything on the tb3 tb3remote.jimdo.com and it just cost 6 euros sooo ^^
Thanks for responding. I already knew that this was possible on the TB-3, I was wondering if this was also possible on the TB-03. Although the fact that the names are so similar, just add a zero, I wonder if that might have caused some of the confusion. It turns out that what you said about the TB-3 is also true for the TB-03. Once again though, I'm always thankful that people like you are willing to take a minute out of their lives to answer a question.
Way to go man, at this stage the stuff we get is so good, it doesn´t even matter. Well back then in 1995 when i started it was a different story with the MC-303 :D and the TR-8 and TB-03 is such a great combo, basically all i need for a live gig for hours. Cheers man
That depends on what you are looking for. The TR-09 definitely nails the TR909 side better, the kick is pure punch and I love the hats as well. The TR-8 gives you a lot more sounds, effects and has the better interface. Get both and have even more fun ;)
LOL that rant about analog...I think there's still a place for analog in the modern world...though people with a lot of spare money are going crazy these days
haha yeah of course there is and always will be a space for analog. Use what works for you and what brings you joy. Its just the discussion of analog vs. digital thats going stale at this day and age. Thats all im sayin. Cheers
Woah cool u responded :D I wanna make psytrance from home (infected mushroom and 1200 mics style) and I really need info about how to set this all up. I'm connecting a korg tb3, tr8, m88 and an arp odyssey module together, and I want individual track data going through my DAW, while retaining the ability to play live (for composition purposes), what exactly do I need to do? As I understand it so far, I will need a mixer and a usb/firewire/thunderbolt interface with at least 4 in and 4 out ports?
hehe, sure no problem. Well the easiest way is if you go the same route as i did. Just get and Aira MX-1, easy to connect your roland stuff and you can also connect all your other gear and best of all its also an interface for you DAW. Did i mention lots of fx to destroy your tracks :D Cheers
SuicideServer I was looking at the mx-1, but I heard bad things...for example, doesn't it not output individual track data to your DAW? I also heard it doesn't output a very clean sound...you find it works well though? Someone is selling one near me right now and I was considering buying it
Yeah don´t belive everything that is written on gearslutz especially if it comes from trolls ;) The MX-1 is perfectly fine in the club or at home. Sure its no highend mixer, but its a lot of fun for the low price you pay.
Nice groove ! But Why don't you buy analog clone of 303 ??? The New Roland versions are good , but this is not "that fatty analog Acid" . :p You should buy Mam mb33 retro (analog clone without seq - 150€) for sound , and controlling it by tb-03 Nice groovy sequencer. ;) Think about that, You have Nice style! :)
in comparison to the real deal, these sound so weak that it is an insult to the original tr-909 and tb-303. quite curious as to what roland is trying to achieve with the production of this nonsense... every non-roland clone sounds better than this. either accept you're not going to get the real thing and buy a clone or don't bother at all. these are a complete ripoff.

One never gets tired of the sounds of the tr 09 and tb 03 of roland. Good job sir
New gear!!! luv this jam my dear friend....luv you.
Hey Vivi, thanks for your kind words. Big kiss to Argentina. Hope you are fine girl :)

Rave Me Alone haha thanks man ;) Cheers
haha nice pre-comment digital, analog... whatever... it sounds great! that's what counts! nice jam!!
Most acid from the TB-03 yet. Nice!
Nice performance man. Great example of how good Rolland's ACB tech has got. I'm really keen to grab a TB03... and you just made me want it even more! Thomas Carli Thanks Thomas and yes thats a good idea. Next video is gonna be TB-03 vs. System1m. Cheers
Just listening again. Geez that tr-09 kicks!
Jason Williams haha yeah i know what you mean, the kick alone is worth the TR-09 😄
Fantastic
Bri Knotts hey Bri, thanks a lot :) Cheers
Great one! Maybe you should try volca bass sometime. I have tb 03 tb 3 and the volca bass. I haven't choose which one is the special yet but definitely volca bass is a riot. Not that rounded sound of roland. All of them are great though. Big ups!
Manos Kyrkas haha i hear you manos but i try not to buy new gear and yes i know i will fail miserable 😄 Cheers mate

Cheers Andy
exactly!
Probably the best demo of the tb 03 I've heard. Nice liberal use of slides and accents in the pattern. I was beginning to think it couldn't reproduce the original squelchy, rubbery 303 sound, I'm happy to be proved wrong.
michael storer thanks michael and yes you really can get that original 303 with the 03, its all in the sequencer. Cheers
SuicideServer I currently have a tt303, which I love, but like the original is a complete pig to program. I like the new programming method in the tb 03. I'll possibly pick one up at some point.
michael storer yeah the easy mode is pretty cool indeed and hey the tt should go well together with the tb, can't have enough flavours of Acid 😄
love the kick drum and I will ask my neighbour for a hug
This is just great
Woe Gamala glad you like it Gamala 😃
Sounds great 😯😃
I haven't bought a new bit of gear since 2005 😬
I'm looking at the TB 03 & TR 8 and after watching your video I'm getting quite excited, the 3 sounds good too and can see from other videos on you tube that it has lots more sounds but I can't help but feel put off by the way it looks
John Sánz I have the 03 and the Tr8. used to have the 3.
They all sound superb so whichever you choose you won't regret it.
The Tr8 is something else.
+Jim Roland I got both the 03 & 8 and am very happy. The TR really is something else, I've always used my drum machines through Cubase however as a stand alone toy the TR-8 is great fun and I never thought I'd be saying that about a drum machine.
John Sánz yes me too. Always used D16 Drumazon but it's great to go hands on with the Tr8.
sounds so good too and full of TR. kits. 👏👍
i have just bought a TB-03, absolutely love it, well worth it at any price but i managed to buy one for only £150 of the net. Einfach nur Geil! Schöne Grüße aus Braunschweig!

I see you own both the TB-3 and the TB-03, is there any sonic difference?
MessiahGaming1080p yeah the do sound different but its more like different flavours of Acid. The 03 has a lot more bass response and it chirps even more. Cheers

Look at that, J got new toys :) The oldschool is strong in this one, so how u like the TB03 compared to the TB3?
XHALE303 Hey X, yeah you know im a sucker for Roland gear 😄 they really improved the ACB version a lot in the new 03, so for now the 03 is on 303 duty while the 3 sequences the System 1m. But i do love em both. Cheers bro

SuicideServer
Tnx! Really cool sound and atmosphere. Artist at work.
NIce man ! I have my 03 from yesterday. sequencer is great but I little disapointed about it sound. Is not so deep in my opinion what do you think ?
ModeFree hey congrats on the 03. Actually i like it a lot and it reminds me of the TB-303 i owned years ago. I dig the bass response and also the sweet spots. Big improvement over the tb-3. Only thing i don't like is the od, but add some proper FX and she really starts to scream like hell 🤘🏻Cheers
well done man :)
Thanks a lot. Glad you like it man :) Cheers

what that rack box you using?
Alexander Abdulov its just a generic 19 inch rack box from Thomann.
SuicideServer what's in it though?
Jim Roland its a Roland System 1m and an MXR 10 Band EQ :)
Trop lourd !!!!!!
xTehTSK I have no idea what that means 😄 but cheers 🍻
xTehTSK 😂😂😂 I'm not sure what he said either but I'm sure it was a compliment. Nice work man thoroughly enjoyed it 👍🏻💣💥
SuicideServer "Trop lourd" = "Massively awesome" in french
I wish i knew how to work these machines
Joe F Its not that complicated Joe. Just get a 03 and 09 and do it ;)
SuicideServer expensive gear though, need speakers and all that too. Maybe one day!
ÑICE SETUP!!!!

no problem my music making friend ;)
I need a safe space for my analog feelings!
Tele Synth haha you have found it my friend, i won't tell anyone even if you are lusting for digital from time to time ;) Cheers
I have TR-8 and getting TB-03 on 25th December. Long since gave up caring if its digital or analog. Forgot to add, great music!
Way to go man, at this stage the stuff we get is so good, it doesn´t even matter. Well back then in 1995 when i started it was a different story with the MC-303 :D and the TR-8 and TB-03 is such a great combo, basically all i need for a live gig for hours. Cheers man
Sounds pretty grimey and cool towards the end!
Dig That!!
Mark Lively Dig you Mark 🍻🤘🏻👍🏻
TR-09? or TR8? which one is better?

Pra Link a LIVE funny that you mention the mb33, I had one back in 1997, funny little acid machine. Cheers 😄
acied
Supoib
cant copy that quacky filter
Hey that's not analog!
Hahaha i laughed so hard when i read that yesterday. Thanks Louis :D Cheers
Hehe. Yeah, I couldn't resist on this one... Great track - keep the videos comming!
in comparison to the real deal, these sound so weak that it is an insult to the original tr-909 and tb-303. quite curious as to what roland is trying to achieve with the production of this nonsense... every non-roland clone sounds better than this. either accept you're not going to get the real thing and buy a clone or don't bother at all. these are a complete ripoff.
MrFBLatz oh come here you and get a hug. You know some people buy these to have fun and i hate to tell you they are lots of fun. Cheers
haha come on. do you even own anything that should sound like a 303 or heard them in real-life? or should this post be sarcastic?
Inevitable Crafts Lab not sure if this is pointed at me but if so - yes i owned several of the ogs and played them in lots of clubs back in the 90ties and 00s ;)
let me see, i had 2 TB-303´s, 3 TR-606s, 1 MC-202 and after all the touring they were in really bad shape so i just sold them :)
weird isn´t it ? We have so many great and affordable music instruments available these days and yet some people are still not happy. But who cares, time for a beer and some knob twiddling. Have a great weekend.
Cheers
You are 30 years late. Single pattern won't work. Lol
