He used the word" umunna" without knowing what it meant. Anything associated with umunna is not for sale. It is jointly owned. If you want to buy land, you contact commercial land sellers.
Where is the sense in coming to build a house for your wife in her place He should have built the house in his own place The woman has been married off to him
Some umunna land because the land is jointly owned the head can give the land to any family members that want to build but if you there venture to sell it others will come after you because it's jointly owned.
I even feel TOS Benson was misquoted. In my part of Igbo land, such request to buy land and build for the wife is interpreted as divorce. So TOS Benson would inadvertently be telling his in-laws he is divorcing his wife. Same interpretation is found in all Igbo communities. Meanwhile, it beats my imagination how those who are Igbo phobic contradict themselves at every turn. Is it possible for people who are purported to love money to the extent they can sell mother suddenly refuse to sell mere land to non-indigene? So much trash have been spewed, and would continue to be spewed against the Igbos. However, none of the false accusations correctly defines the identity and character of the Igbos. Rather, it defines the character of their haters
An Igbo man should go and organise a discussion on Iand purchase in Igbo land on Arise Tv to debunk what has been said by Reuben Abati.Arise Tv is owned by an Igbo man from Delta State or Anioma,Nduka Obaigbena. You Mr Paul can do that.
It is interesting that everyone is preoccupied about what Abati said; but no one has stopped to contemplate on why Abati felt empowered to make such a brazing statement with impunity. He knows what he is doing.
We won't refute anything because we Igbos owe no ethnic group in Nigeria any explanation. Igboland is within Nigeria, if you folks want to know anyting about the South East, take your a$$ down there and find out for yourself.
I expect the family of the highly revered Chief TOS Benson to call Abati to order, he should not drag the Icon to disrepute. Abati should live with his pettiness alone.
Dr. Abati only quoted what TOS Benson said in a forum years ago. What should said was for him to show the video of where Chief TOS Benson made that comment. If you go to 86 jubilee Road Aba, an Hausa man owns that building. 46 Ogui Road enugu the former mayor of enugu who is an Hausa man. A very popular mechanic at Ogbohill who took a chieftancy title in ngwaland is a Yoruba man by name chief Adeyemi. All his children are married to igbos. I am surprised at where these set of Nigerians will end up.
If Abati is wrong it should be clearly stated with clear evidence, not talking of lands bought by Churches and Banks that are owned by non Ibos. Prove that common middle or low class Nigerians have lands and built up properties in Igbo land.
No, you make a fundamenral mistake: in logic and proof a fundamental principle is that HE WHO ASSERTS MUST PROVE. So it is for Reuben Abati to prove his assertion, not for others to disprove it. His assertion is based on such flimsy evidence, that one can only conclude that he made the assertion in an unguarded moment of ethnic envy or hatred, in order to immediately counteract the encomiums heaped on Igbos by Akpabio the Senate Pesident, being encomium that Abati seemed to acknowledge somewhat begrudgingly. How can any serious person base such a momentous assertion or conclusion on the statement of one man, TOS Benson, essentially on hearsay? But it would not even make a material difference if more than one person said the same thing as TOS Benson, for it would still be hearsay for Abati to use such statements the way he did to draw a far-reaching conclusion about Igbos on a very important and sensitive subject. The proper approach, for such an assertion that is capable of fomenting inter-ethnic tension, is for Abati and his staff to try buying land from those openly advertising land for sale in Igboland, to see whether there are such sellers who will say they don't want their money because they are not Igbo. I suspect that Abati knows the truth here, but is mischievously spewing anti-Igbo sentiments to gratify his own ethnic biases.
@AaronB648 No person other than Abati himself needs to prove anything: It is a basic principle of logic and proof that HE WHO ASSERTS MUST PROVE. So it is for Abati to prove his position, but the proof he has provided is laughable: the words of a lone 1st Republic politician, TOS Benson, who is given to drama and hyperbole; words which clearly constitute impermissible HEARSAY when adopted and relied upon as Abati has done. No one needs to lift a finger to prove anything other than to point out the gross insufficiency of the evidence behind Abati's assertion and his gross irresponsibility in using that evidence to make the dangerous assertion in issue on national TV.
Thank you Paul Uwandima. Since there is no viable infrastructure in Igboland, the only thriving Yoruba businesses there are the Pentecostal churches which they dominate. Few other Yoruba investments can be found in Igboland, not because Igbo don’t sell land to strangers, but because strangers will not come to invest in a region with no infrastructure. Aside from the churches, disinvestment has been Nigerian national policy since the 1970s. Dr. Abati must get his narrative right; we have always suspected his penchant for ethnic baiting of Ndigbo. What a pity…
He did not only embarrased himself but also disrespected her vo worker by saying "Stupid and Nonesence" . Firstly he said "Umunna" properly that belongs to Umunna is never for sale unless they jointly decided to sell it with reasons known to them. Secondly, it could be sold if after sharing the property and one decided to sell his.
That’s not true in place where the Igbo refused to sell their land it might be the culture of that community not selling to anybody including themselves we have such law in my place
We Igbos never sell our ancestral land but commercial land Ruben is misled.Umunna land is no no no no for outside person even ibo man that is not from that family.
One thing to sell another is to sell after the buyer develops the land you come back to demolish them. I am into properties and I am a contractor , I have Yorubas friends or colleagues who bought land and built on it and are currently living there. Those not doing business in South East should not stay out there and speak lies about Igbos . So much propaganda against Igbos. If any Yoruba man needs land , contact me or any Estate manager or even Obi cubana and co
@@dveryblueblood Thank you for succinctly exposing the absurdity of the false narrative being created and nurtured by these sore losers. The underlying purpose is to create a toxic atmosphere for those Ibos who unwisely ignore sound advice and continue to invest in unsafe areas. For most wise Ibos who have embraced the invest home philosophy, they can bring it on and nobody gives a rat's arse about what they think or say.
God bless you Sir... Dr Abati has always been one of the greatest Igbo haters, his statments and analysis towards Igbo matters are full of hypocritically bias sentiment. Nigeria is a country were individuals are bigger than law that is why people talk and behave the way they like. Power and intelligent is use for the proper development of a country but in Nigeria it is basically use for oppression. I have seen a lot's of Dr Abati"s type with high degrees in education but when they talk, you as a reasonable person will know that their high degrees has nothing to do with wisdom. Mr PhD lacks wisdom due to the fact that his emotions towards the Igbos are being driven by hates. He shall one day be caught up in the cobwebs he is constructing ...
It means u have not been listening to Arise TV , he has stood for the igbos for many times. Now that he spoke the truth about Igbo, u are calling for his head.
@@adelabuolumide6958 You are not telling yourself the truth brother, Dr Abati's analysis is full of hypocritically hates towards the Igbos. He only pretend to love the Igbos but listen very careful to his analysis whenever he is talking about the Igbos. I have good friends who are Yorubas that are doing good businesses in Igbo land. What Abati did was systematically spreading hates.
Anybody can buy land in igboland but certain lands can’t be purchased not only by non igbos but anyone not from that ancestral lineage. For my Yoruba brothers, you are more than welcome to marry our daughters and buy land.
@DonnellOkafor-r2d ...of wickedness? How can I? I meet many Igbo men especially ladies who are very humble and straight forward but when it comes to selling their lands, they're never willing. The Biafra, sectionalism stuf is too much in their heads
All I want to see is the statistics of lands and properties owned by non Ibos in Iboland. That would proof or disproof what Abati has said. All these raining of abuses and curses show low intelligence
Land sales is a commercial thing, therefore it is about a willing buyer and a willing seller. The land bought by the igbos in Yoruba land were sold at a price agreed by both the seller and the igbos man. Pay the right amount to an igbo man and he will sell his land to you.
Bro, You just made a low iq contribution. If you are challenged to produce statistics of lands and properties owned by non-Yorubas in Yoruba land, you will immediately launch into the usual Lagos this Lagos that rant. How many non-Yorubas own land and properties in Iragbiji, Ayetoro, Alaju-Ede, Idanre Gbongan etc.? Go and establish a "federal capital "territory in Igboland and fund it with national money for 70 years, move HQ of companies, embassies, consulates etc there before you come back here and ask for statistics of land and property ownership or just go and sit down. Why are bigots always so slow?
You sound unlearned..Is Reuben Abati a yoruba?..Better find who your enemies are,,Am yoruba and most of my friends are Igbos are we have very good working relationships and ties with each other
Dr. Abati is correct, its the truth. Ojy caused the trouble, she came with a mindset of supporting one side and also to embarrass or disgrace her colleagues publicly. There are many comments on the issue, both in favour and against the topic, she only cleaved to the comment that favours her ideology thereby bringing ridicule to her colleague publicly. No !!! that is not good, no one would take such a public disgrace when you have the opportunity to defend yourself. So Dr, Abati is right. It is true that Ibos don't like to sell their lands. If they can not sell their lands and believe its wrong to do so, why do they go to other regions to buy land and even go ahead to claim that the land is no man's land. - You cant take what you cant give, Oh you dont believe in giving but you like to take, are the other regions stupid.... ? The fact remains that the truth is bitter, but it must be told, that was exactly what Dr. Abati did here - Kudos to you Dr, Abati. I know Ojy will not see this comment to discuss it because its against her ideology.
I have seen Reuben Abati as a misfit in the Arise TV anchorship. He always antagonize Rufai, especially. I am not sure how he got the job at Arise TV, but I can clearly say with a full chest that he is a bigot by any quantification. He should make a public apology to the Igbo community and then be released from Arise TV. Rufai, Oji and Ayo should anchor the show. The way he talked back at Oji on the air showed how rude a person he is. He was shouting at her. You can not just paint a whole community with one brush. Just imagine that was said against the Yoruba tribe. The same Abati would raise hell. They should eject him from Arise TV. That's my take. He is unfit
Reported speech from Rueben Abati but the way he painted it, you will sense sinister move. Let me illustrate, he said, Chief TOS Benson has an igbo wife and an igbo daughter, how can a yoruba man who has an igbo wife still has an igbo daughter how? His daughter is now an igbo girl? So, his sons are igbo sons too abi. This statement is what the emilokuns wants to hear and i think he wants appointment from Tpain. There is a huge malicious undertone to Abati's comment even though, he try to make it look like a reported speech. Besides, why should he raise that issues, does it has any correlation with the subject of discussion. You don't make a lighter note statement in that manner.
Although Dr. Abati thought he was making a point with his comments he did not realize what impact it would have on members of the audience that come from the Igbo tribe. However, what surprise me is why this comments makes any difference from jokes and comedy performances that him and his team show case in their program every morning. As a listener to the program outside Nigeria I have always cautioned the team about their unnecessary jokes during the program, they make jokes of Tinubu and his government downgrade people that matter in the country without an retribution from the management of the TV Station or the owner. When he makes jokes of the president and the government that seems to be very alright and no threats and condemnation as we see in this case. The media promote freedom of speech even it involves lying and insulting the president and journalists capitalize on that and voice out all kinds of nonsense in Nigeria. I guess this is a situation where freedom of speech does not apply.
@olaade3847 if you need my candid opinion, because the FGN has not made any significant investment in that part of the country. No refineries or petrochemical industry. Despite Imo having the high volume of gas reserves, the coal mines of Enugu remains undeveloped etc....
@@edmundotuchikere214Thanks dearest brother. We are brothers! Let's forget about what people and media use to divide us and concentrate more on what unite us. Igbos are wonderful people, very industrious, and innovative. Nigeria with Igbos, yoruba, hausas, and other ethnic group in unity will have exponential growth and be positioned above the so called developed country. I cant wait for when Nigeria will change its name to "UNITED STATE OF NIGERIA" Thanks again my brother! God bless Nigeria! God bless Yoruba land! God bless Igboland!
SIMPLE BUT SHORT WITH FACTS !! Thanks you sir and God bless you for this classic reply to Dr Abati. Please Dr Abati, Igbo Nation will like you to honorably readdress/retract this your statement, we know you are a good journalist but try to make genuine research before jumping into conclusion in matters like this. Igbo Land is good for sell as like any other land in Nigeria, most especially provided the buyer has good intension.
You are lying. Onitsha and Aba are the most cosmopolitan of Ibo cites, surpassing even post-war Port Harcourt. If you have no money to rent/buy a shop, say so and stop carping.
Dr. Abati, thank you for speaking up. Of course, there are exceptions. You will not find a law that says Igbos should not sell land to others, but as an unspoken rule, they don't sell land to others. The furious reaction everywhere shows that you hit a nerve. Continue to hit that nerve. No gree for anybody...if you have to stand alone, so be it.
Bro, You are wrong. What Mr. Abati did is what Igbos call "Iku eze" or pointless blubbering that changes nothing. I mean, it is an exercise in futility. Nothing Abati says or does will change the age-old Igbo land tenure system, not even a million Abatis in a million years. What you are seeing is the chattering classes with a lot of time to kill engaged in what they do best-chattering in cyberspace. In reality, hell will freeze over before you, Abati or anyone else can even touch the margin of Igbo tradition as it relates to land. Do you imagine that Igbos will now decree that from now on, Umunna land should be declared open for sale because of you and Abati or what? As for Igbos buying land outside Igboland, it is your choice not to sell to them. The problem is that it is often you and other non-Igbos who approach Igbos to come and buy your land while Igbos are minding their own business. Why? Because you need the money. It is not an altruistic act, just so you know.
Just give us a list of verifiable people who bought land in Igbo land that is not for commercial purposes or Church. And for people saying the person that wants to buy didn't approach the right people, I can tell you whoever is bold enough to sell land to strangers will be deemed an outcast and be labeled a traitor. But here in the west you will even see an Igbo man doing estate business selling Yoruba land to Yorubas
Don't turn the sequence upside down. Give a list of non Igbos who wanted to buy land for business and were refused. Dr Abati made a mockery of his research sense by making a generalized statement with one unverified fact, even if verified. You don't sell umunna or community land. Reuben Abati made that statement in bad faith as nothing can be further from the truth.
Dr Ruben Abati, Please Sir, there is not ONE thing ALL Igbos do. They don’t all SPEAK one dialect. They are not all of the same SHADE. They are not all of the same HEIGHT. They don’t DANCE the same way. They don’t SING the same way. They are not all of the same Religion or Denomination. They don’t all manage their resources, including land, the same way. They don’t even all hate you. Please get it between your two ears: NOT ONE THING!
The proof you seek is completely unwarranted. Abati's assertion is based on "evidence" that is so flimsy and weak that it effectively amounts to no evidence. His assertion collapses under the weight of its own weaknesses and contradictions, and nothing needs to be proven in response to it. What is warranted is simply to point out the gross insufficiency of his relying on a single source as proof for such a wide-ranging and momentous assertion. This insufficiency is worsened by the fact that the information from this lone source is also inadmissible and utterly useless HEARSAY when used as Dr. Abati has done. If a juvenile journalist relies on such weak and non-existent proof to arrive at such a major conclusion, he would certainly face disciplinary measures from his employers. I suppose going Scot-free for such mischief is one of the perks of gerontocratic journalism that Abati will be conceded by his employers on this occasion. It's a shame.
My dad told me that when he was working in Imo state, as a Federal government civil servant, and he wanted to buy 2 plots of land there in 1985 and Igbo land owners refused to sell land to him directly! That was in 1985. Therefore, what Dr Abati said is right. If my own dad did not tell me that story, I wouldn't believe what Dr Abati said.
You and your useless father are fools. Mention his name and the establishment he worked. The owner or owners of the land as well as exact location of the land for factual verification. Bigots
Exactly the point..have u checked on your own?...That was how the said it was an " Igbo coup"...Redeem church ,deper life. Rcc, wimners and their pastors own houses in nukes and crannies of every Igbo town...but looks u guys likes disseminating false information.I found out it is inborn in most u guys.
You are talking trash send me your email tell me which location uou want to buy the land and I will send you details of land agents and advertised lands in that location
Many estate agents in the East are seriously advertising houses for sale and property in industrial areas to purchase, you won't go and buy that one but looking for issues.
Ogbeni do you know that quoting someone verbatim can send you to jail even when the supposedly individual you are quoting is not there to confirm the reported speech.
How did his quote correlate with the issue of the Akpabio’s extolling the Igbos as entrepreneurial and resilient? Abati had bring that stupid quote to dilute the praises of the Igbo people.
First of all your comparisons are watery at best. He said Igbos don't sell umunna land, he didn't say Igbos don't sell land. Simply address that. Then trying to paint him as pompous for requesting that he be addressed by his title is not against journalism ethics. Dr Fauci, Dr Gupta, Dr Phil.
After listening to what he said I now understood what he was explaining, what I think is that this man in question wanted to buy land for his wife in his wife’s village and they told him they don’t sell land to foreigners, this may happen because of culture and tradition because in many Igbo communities women don’t have right to own land or bought land. This doesn’t mean Igbo people doesn’t sell lands to foreigners, in Enugu here hundreds of people from all parts of Nigeria owns lands, hotels and other properties they bought and build, the immediate past late chief of army staff is building the biggest house in Enugu before his death and work is still on going. I think Reuben didn’t understand what the man told him and he generalized it to all Igbo land…
Pedestrian interpretation. Here is the thing: somebody, I believe Mr Akpabio, praised Ibos for their entrepreneurial spirit which brings developmental benefits to host communities across Nigeria. But Mr. Abati felt so miffed by this praise that he issued an immediate riposte designed to demonize the entire Ibos and portray them as devilish people who buy land outside Iboland without hinderance while refusing to sell land to non-Ibos in Iboland. Then he, Abati wheeled out the Benson exemplar to illustrate his stance. This is clearly part of a narrative constructed to damage Ibo credibility in Nigeria in furtherance of a hidden political agenda. It is sad you didn't see the bigger picture which is staring you in the face. Remember how one Yoruba "pastor" wheeled out the Ahmadu Bello story in the eve of the Nigerian election to rile the north against Ibo politicians? Don't be so slow, man. .
Tell us your region first if you wish to be taken seriously. If you are Yoruba, tell us what is diverse about Irgbiji, Osogbo, Ife, Idanre, Gbongan, Ayetoro etc. Please don't come here and start talking about Lagos, a Nigerian federal territory where the government, its ministries, embassies and consulates, bank and multinational corp hq were based attracting people from all areas. No Yoruba city is as ethnically diverse as Aba, Onitsha, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Umuahia, Abakaliki, Owerri, Asaba etc. For a start, each of these cities has Northern quarters called Ama Awusa with northerners contesting and winning council elections e.g. in Umuahia. In fact, the first elected Mayor of Enugu was a Fulani man called Alhaji Umaru Altine.
You made this whole video on someone that told a story from TOS BENSON????? I also here hear your explanation but do they ask these questions when ppl try to buy property in other parts of Nigeria?? Also please study what the programme is about. Its about trending topics and a focus on social media. It applies the same way. The same way Ojy tells us what people say online, Abati was recounting what TOS said. So pls explain why we now have to question his profession?
This bald head man sounds very defensive as a typical Igbo man. You're crying for too long on a simple statement. Why not tell Abati that you have a land for him when he is ready instead of looking too deep into his statement and also tearing up. Abati is always on the side of the Igbos so he owns no one apologies.
The time Abatti spoke against Yorubas, you people were hailing him. Now is your turn you are kicking against his professionalism. Meanwhile, he spoke with fact and evidence. You can't tell us that igbos doesn't have traditional rules that guide the sales of land in your local communities. All of you know the truth, but because of tribal interest, you can be here defending nonsense.
We know the man b4 now as one who hates the Igbos . He is lucky that the AriseTv is not his own if not him for watch that Channel alone . PhD politician.
Facts: Ancestral land/Ana-Obi, Obi-uno, is a land collectively owned by families in most igbo communities and not for sale to anyone, even to the other villages, not to talk about outsiders from neighboring villages or to non-indegenes. So, for someone to initiate or expressive desire to buy such property is suspicious and preposterous. Igbo omen, married or not, do not inherit any Family land. NOT TO TALK ABOUT BUYING!!! However, women can inherit family land or property in the townships. This is our culture. What happened on Arise is shameful. We need cultural education and awareness so that confusion like this doesn't happen again. Dr. Abati should have handled this properly and educated his audience better. ORJI was very professional about her presentation and response. Educate yourself about yourself and other people.!!!! "Live and let live"
Abati was so angry with Ojy, can't understand why, she was just doing her job. I feel Abati is not so educated as he appears to be. A 'Dr.' a former presidential employee, acting so piqued on national TV...So appalling...so shameful!!
@@FrankMartin-pl8mf but you know that what Benson said may not be true, because many Yorubas are living in there houses in all part of Igbos today. The Igala native doctor in my town bought his land and built his house there. He even have tenants houses in ISU Ani ocha
Dr. Abati really got it all wrong. I am an Igbo man and I do know that an Igbo man will sell his land even to his enemy if he agrees with the price. It will be civil to be sure of things before going on air to make comments. Dr. Abati is known for his arrogance, anyway. Let's not give him the attention he craves.
Coming to the land issue, a commentator before me made an excellent point. I don'nt know the Yoruba cultural norms about land ownership, but I guess they may be polar opposite to those of the Igbos and there may lye the missunderstanding. - Number -1, What T.O.S needed the land for was almost unheard of in Igbo Land and probably just told off with whatever came to the Land owner's mouth. 2 - Unless it has recently changed, women could not own land in Igboland, not even inherit from their fathers. She can build a house but only in her father's ancestral compound. Her husband is also free to build a house for his inlaws. But for the reason T.O.S was looking for the land - I doubt that any sane Igbo man could have obliged him
How can you go to your in-laws and said you want to buy land to build a house for their daughter whom you have married. Do you want to return the girl/woman.
@@ukamakanwaleke You see! That is what they call "marriage" in their land and they expect Ibos to be the same. When an Ibo girl is getting married, her family will advise her to go and create a new home with her husband. How can the husband turn around to build a house for her in the family she left? What an abomination? The sad bit is they all want to marry Ibo women and when the Ibos say no, thy start moaning. Ibo and Yoruba cultures and worldview are poles apart and they should never be in one country.
Ruben Abati, you are telling lies. Produce evidence of the statement by T.O.S. Benson. You must have quoted him completely out of context. Stop bigotry against the Igbos. There are several real estate firms here. They sell their land to those who are ready to pay the appropriate price. There's no discrimination as to where you come from. It is very unfortunate for you at your level to tell this type of lie on television.
Served Igbo people right. If Reuben Abati had praised Igbo people, would they have queried him whether he oŕ not had carried out research before making that comment?
Why shouldn't you support him as far as birds of the same feather flock together, shameless tribe. The envy, jealousy, hatred, etc the late chief Obafemi Awolowo planted into the Yoruba tribe will continue.
Reuben Abati used the word UMUNNA. Of a truth, Umunna land is not usually for sale because it's not owned by an individual. It's owned by the entire family. However, non indigènes buy lands in the south east through land agents. The narrative that Igbos dont sell land to non indigens is totally false and must be corrected.
Abati should tell us where the meeting that igbos will not sell land to other people was held and who chairs the meeting. And the sectary of the meeting if not he has all the ignos to conten with !!!!!!
Igbos don’t sell land to non Igbo people. Not all Igbo people can buy land in Igbo land. OSU Igbo can’t buy land in Igbo land. If Igbo people are selling land to non Igbo they won’t be insulting yoruba for selling their lands.
Tunde, oni irò niyi. The Ibos only abuse you because you are fond of either selling your lands to more than one buyer or reclaiming the land after selling it and then resell it to another unsuspecting buyer. This illegal land dealing originated from Lagos to other parts of the country today.
did abati verify the information before putting such in public and went ahead to say if anyone has contrary voice should forward, then ogy has come forward to ask for clarification he went wild
Go and look for real east in south east you will see land to buy, go to Aba where I come from some yoruba own land in Aba. Go to Imo alot northern own houses in Imo
How l wish yorubas cherish their land like the ibos. Outsiders would not have been occupying vast areas of land in their region now. I blame their Obas as well. I hope they are waking up though!
In the 1st place. Buhari called Igbo ' a dot ' . Y should people put their eyes on the small land they have. This is witch hunting of the highest order.
Igbos even dash out lands to strangers..A church from the west was given a land from an Igbo man, even with the documents they sold the land without the knowledge of the man that dashed them the land..AA Rano a good man..have businesses over south east, was the land not sold to him?
If the man he quoted had asked the in-laws for a land to build a house even for himself, they would have given him a piece of land free of charge. He should stop talking of people he hates and probably have not had a business relationship with relating to land.
Ask Abati if he has come to Igbo land before and land was not sold to him. I have at least 5 Yoruba guys who bought land and they are living here today
Abatti is a terrible man. We know he hates Igbos but we don't care . He is too small for Igbos. We don't need his apology because he is double face Journalist.
The Igbo people don't have a culturally monolithic existence. What obtains in the customs of the Delta Igbo people does not exist amongst indigenes of Owerri and a few of the cultural norms in Owerri could well be taboos in Enugu and some of the customs enthusiastically celebrated in Enugu may well be frowned upon in Anambra and what is a traditional practice in Abia may be considered profoundly iniquitous amongst the Ikwerre people of Rivers State and vice versa so Reuben Abati is wrong to have made such sweeping overgeneralisation about Igbos. I don't think it is down to Igbophobia though. I suspect it is due to a lack of familiarity with Igbos customs.
It will help if you showed examples of your observation. There are of course, Ibo cultural zones but the core practice-marriage, land tenure etc are the same everywhere. No part of Iboland will sell communal (Umunna) land irrespective of the state.' Anyway I reckon Mr Abati is on a mission of narrative construction with a clear purpose in mind. By claiming that Ibos do not sell land to non-Ibos, he aims to legitimize the seizure and demolition of Ibo homes in Lagos, a pet project of Yoruba ronu activists of which he is a core member. such a narrative if allowed to take hold will diminish any sympathy for Ibos who cry foul about demolition or seizure of their homes in Lagos just as "Ibo coup" is used to justify the pogroms against Ibos in 1966.
@@DogonTurenchi-c6y I agree with you that the core cultural practice across Iboland is by and large very similar and in many cases identical. I cannot claim to know better than you guys given that I don't speak the language and I only lived in the SE for 9 months. Nonetheless, I disagree about Rueben Abati having an anti-Igbo agenda. With reference to the ''yoruba ronu activism'', I swear I am hearing it for the first time. I live in a 95% Yoruba dwelling town and never came across such a shadowy, ethnocentric group before.
@@adetolaayodele3425 Ok. But in Nigeria, there is no smoke without fire and Abati et al are definitely unto something. To illustrate the point, note how some ronu activities have also started claiming that no street in Iboland is named after a non-Ibo. This claim is made despite there being even Awolowo Road in Umuahia, Uthman Dan Fodio Road in Aba, Bola Tinubu Road in Owerri, Adegoke Adelabu, Olusegun Obasanjo Road etc. Thus their aim is to rationalise the obliteration of Ibo street names in Lagos which is going on as we speak.
The host of this video is totally out of the point. Your comment shows you are tribalistic. Tribalistic people always refuse to hear and follow the bitter truth that concerns or affect their clans. Now for T.O Benson, or whoever can decide to build his wife a house where he has married her as honor or way of telling her family that I'm with you. It's known every in Nigeria that Ibos are selfish, tribalistic, and arrogant. Concerning land, may be they don't have enough land or they don't want strangers. I live there as USAD employee with other colleagues for 5 years. We lived in the hotel for 4 and half years. They refused to sell land when we wanted to buy. And again, the landlord evicted us out after six months of living in his house for the reason that we could not speak ibo. To my ibo brothers, open your hand a little bit as Hausa & Yoruba have opened their hands for you to build, live, marry, and do business. For churches or mosque built in ibo land is another scenario. Its the ibos that go there to worship, get deliverance, imparted with wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Apart from money making churches, any church build in your community is a way of evangelism which no one can take glory for it. Pls don't fight me. This is bitter truth. I come in peace. Bless the ibos.
Bro, " It's known every (sic) in Nigeria that Ibos are selfish, tribalistic, and arrogant". That's rich coming from you, a violent ronu jingoist. I stopped reading the pointless, stereotypical twaddle at this point.
What’s the issue in what he said when he clearly put in context and quoted what someone prominent said about his experience. Everybody experience might be different and that might be on the families that refused to sell. Stop fanning a flame where there is none and playing a video to justify what? To tag him as a bigot???? Stop!
Reuben Abatti is right, he can't apologize, Igbo people find it even very difficult to give out business premises to non igbos not to talk of selling land.
So, Igbos gave T.O.S Benson their daughter but will not sell him land? Does that make sense? So, mix with us, T.O.S Benson but, don't live amongst us? Come on. Let's think.
Heard it loud and clear, even if he was right all along, Reuben was clearly wrong on this. Whether he admits it or not, is a totally different thing entirely. If he was that intelligent, he would have quickly apologized. Wished he never did this.
He should have approached the real estate agents that are numerous in the south east. Unknown to him that they are some lands that belongs to people from that community. That's why it is called ummuna. How do you expect them to sell to you a Yoruba,?
He used the word" umunna" without knowing what it meant. Anything associated with umunna is not for sale. It is jointly owned. If you want to buy land, you contact commercial land sellers.
No mind am..... yeye man.
Unless the Umunna land has been shared within the constituting families then a family might decide to sell.
Where is the sense in coming to build a house for your wife in her place
He should have built the house in his own place
The woman has been married off to him
Some umunna land because the land is jointly owned the head can give the land to any family members that want to build but if you there venture to sell it others will come after you because it's jointly owned.
Just As Igogbe Should Not Be Encouraged To Be For Sale Or Bought. Use Your Platform To Stop The Igbo’s Buying Igogbe And Be Bragging About It.
Er, land could be seen as an icon of wealth, hence refusal to sell and outsiders may not be the only ones refused

Let's no deceive ourselves.
There can never be a one Nigeria 😢
Did Ruben tell you whoelse that was there whenTO Benson was telling him that
@AaronB648 No person other than Abati himself needs to prove anything: It is a basic principle of logic and proof that HE WHO ASSERTS MUST PROVE.
@George-q6p Quite reasonable

To solve this problem let Paul go to AriseNews to air his defense. Simple.
As an Igbo man I will never accept Mr Abati's apologies
And so what ? Do you think you can make him stay home on Mondays or what ?

The furious reaction everywhere shows that you hit a nerve. Continue to hit that nerve. No gree for anybody...if you have to stand alone, so be it.
Bro,
You are wrong.
Who cares what you and your likes think or don’t think.

Thought you would be giving examples in contrary to Dr. Abati assertion..
Which of your father told you this lies? If you are not making this up you should have considered the examples given by the presenter.

It's means that your head is blocked if this is what you heard him say.
All the aforementioned doctors are medical doctors and not academic doctor like Reuben
Don't be so slow, man. .
Reuben just said the fact, nothing wrong with His speech. Why is it that Igbo land is the least diverse region in Nigeria🇳🇬?
Because other tribes in nigeria are not good at leaving their regions to live and thrive elsewhere
"Live and let live"
Dr Abati, you got it all wrong. Worst is your disgraceful reaction to a more mature and gentle OJY.
You just embarrassed yourself.
Abati was so angry with Ojy, can't understand why, she was just doing her job. I feel Abati is not so educated as he appears to be. A 'Dr.' a former presidential employee, acting so piqued on national TV...So appalling...so shameful!!
an illiterate called Abati the PHD man
Some people buy Land in South East for cemetery. In those days my Igbo village Land is not sold but can be leased.
Nothing is wrong in what Reuben said
And nothing is right about it either.
A whole lot was wrong, we can discuss about it further is you care
That’s what you think about false
@@ukamakanwaleke
You see!
If yorubas are as mobile as igbos, they will see the need to buy land in other tribes.
Served Igbo people right. If Reuben Abati had praised Igbo people, would they have queried him whether he oŕ not had carried out research before making that comment?
What is the truth? That is the important thing here.
I AM VERY PROUD OF DR ABATTI ..HE SOEAKS THE TRUTH WITHOUT FEAR ..IBO NEVER EVER SELL LAND TO NON INDIGENES
Fallacy of falsefull generalization.
Who told you that
Why shouldn't you support him as far as birds of the same feather flock together, shameless tribe.
The envy, jealousy, hatred, etc the late chief Obafemi Awolowo planted into the Yoruba tribe will continue.
Lier and bigot
You are a lier and a bigot. Where have you gone to buy land and you were refused ?
That's what I call infighting
For hate.....
Attack the Man, not the Reputable degree..My take
Abati should tell us where the meeting that igbos will not sell land to other people was held and who chairs the meeting.
I have igbo friends that told me that they don't sell land to non Igbo...
Sir, I need a land can u get land for me
Go and look for real east in south east you will see land to buy, go to Aba where I come from some yoruba own land in Aba. Go to Imo alot northern own houses in Imo
It's really disappointing of him and even his reaction a day later was even more demeaning.
How l wish yorubas cherish their land like the ibos. Outsiders would not have been occupying vast areas of land in their region now. I blame their Obas as well. I hope they are waking up though!
Ruben Abati got it all WRONG! He needs informed supported reasoning. And this is exactly how misinformation gets wings.
Of course he must apologize to the entire Igbo nation
Ask Abati if he has come to Igbo land before and land was not sold to him. I have at least 5 Yoruba guys who bought land and they are living here today
I have heard this before. Is this true? Simple yes or no!
Guys please speak up if you have experienced this personally
Experienced what?
No
Please this is totally wrong idea about Igbos. We sell land.
Reuben Abatti should apologize to the igbos
Abatti is a terrible man. We know he hates Igbos but we don't care . He is too small for Igbos. We don't need his apology because he is double face Journalist.
That's very correct 💯 Igbos nor dey sell land to strangers
There is a heavy competition existing in Igbo land, you are lazy to come and compete, that’s why you all run away
Have they to buy before? Mugu!
There nothing like delta ibo you have Ika or Agbor, Ukwane ect.
It will help if you showed examples of your observation. There are of course, Ibo cultural zones but the core practice-marriage, land tenure etc are the same everywhere. No part of Iboland will sell communal (Umunna) land irrespective of the state.' Anyway
I reckon Mr Abati is on a mission of narrative construction with a clear purpose
in mind.
@@gaosun8151 Ok. I will concede to your better familiarity with your ethnic group.
@@adetolaayodele3425
Ok.
I have personally sold over 3000 plots to strangers in Anambra state. So where does he generate his claims. That's a fat lie
Reuben did Benson said that there was land for sale and the owner refused to sell to him
The host of this video is totally out of the point.
Bro,
" It's known every (sic) in Nigeria that Ibos are selfish, tribalistic, and arrogant".
That's rich coming from you, a violent ronu jingoist. I stopped reading the pointless, stereotypical twaddle at this point.
Have you ever tried to buy and they said no to you? Why are you guys can't reason like a normal human being
What you wrote tells more about you than about Igbos. You lack goog manners and maturity. I think you need help.
I think other tribe too we tast what it feel of a whole ethnic group been acuse of what they are not even aware of.
Saying this because i am Tiv.😂
Addressed as Drs. Infact, you would'nt know unless you were told and believe me, not likely from their mouth.
Keep quiet if you're dark brain
So, Igbos gave T.O.S Benson their daughter but will not sell him land? Does that make sense? So, mix with us, T.O.S Benson but, don't live amongst us?
Come on. Let's think.
Igbos are very excellent people.
Heard it loud and clear, even if he was right all along, Reuben was clearly wrong on this. Whether he admits it or not, is a totally different thing entirely. If he was that intelligent, he would have quickly apologized. Wished he never did this.
He can't apologize bcoZ he hates the Igbos
He should have approached the real estate agents that are numerous in the south east.
Unknown to him that they are some lands that belongs to people from that community. That's why it is called ummuna. How do you expect them to sell to you a Yoruba,?
What are Yoruba Churches , Banks that itself tells something about yourself, anyways I supported your position about Ruben Abati.
It is because they are not good in travelling to Igbo land,
The man is not qualified to be given the award of PHD, nonsense
Building a house for a wife in Igboland?
C-razy Ruben
I tried to buy land too in Aba. I could not get land to buy too
And they told you that you are not from.Aba. you people are just lying against my tribe. There's God ooo.
You couldn't get land because you don't have money.
This one Nigeria no go hold water cos those that supposed to shape it are destroying it
